17-year-old Lexi Turner has just been dumped by her boyfriend of three years—on the day she was going to, well, "do it" with him. And to make matters worse, he dumped her for a life-force-sucking demon!
Devastated by this turn of events, she decides there is only one way to deal with the situation: get revenge!
Enter Jase Holloway—Lexi's former childhood friend and adversary to her ex. The plan is simple: somehow talk Jase into pretending to be her boyfriend to make her ex-boyfriend jealous, make him regret dumping her and make him come crawling back to her on his hands and knees, begging for forgiveness...
With Jase on board, Lexi is confident she will get the revenge she deserves. But nothing’s ever that simple, and Lexi soon finds out firsthand that sometimes what you want is not always what you get—and sometimes what you get is what you wanted all along.
Amanda Abram began her career as a writer at a young age, writing weird short stories for her elementary school writing class, and penning Full House fan fiction during her spare time. She later graduated to writing novel-length Harry Potter fan fictions before finally taking a shot at writing her own original novels. As a hopeless romantic who enjoys remembering a simpler time, she primarily writes Young Adult romantic comedies so she can relive her youth vicariously through her teenage characters.

Simple. Cute. Sweet. Predictable. A bit annoying at times but overall a fast read and I would definitely recommend reading what the book is about before buying (I didn´t).
I picked this one up because I enjoyed the author's other book Challenge Accepted. This one was not quite as good. This is a typical teenage young adult book with swearing, drinking, partying and talk of sex. There were not any sex scenes and most of the language was mild. I enjoy reading young adult titles but prefer them with less of the teenage everyone's doing it mentality.
I do however like this author's writing style. She pulled me into the story and I kept reading to the end. There were definitely several things I would have changed about this storyline. The characters made some really stupid decisions which I found had to forgive and move on from. Take this for what it is. If you enjoy YA and don't mind language, sexual talk, etc. this might be for you.
Rating: 3.5 Stars
Content: Language throughout most of it mild, talk of sex, innuendo, crude comments/thoughts
The Story was such a big mess .. but it did make me laugh at some point, I do relate with Lexi, sometimes revenge is the only thing you can do if someone hurt you .. I liked Lexi though I was annoyed by some of her behavior, what I liked best about her is her friendship with Trish, these girls are friendship goals .. they always support each other no matter what .. and they kept their friendship in a healthy status even when everything went down hill but what annoyed me most about this story is Jase .. he is such a jerk I really couldn't figure him out most of the time .. I liked him sometimes but mostly I was annoyed by him .. Eric ( Jase's friend) is adorable, so glad he got his happy ending :D The book was fine and I have nothing against it .. but I guess the drama of Jase is too much for me
I had so many issues with this book. Why did I finish it. I knew how it was going to end before I started it—I wasn’t exactly looking for an original plot or anything (predictability can still be entertaining!), but I hated Lexi so much.
Lexi is the most Mary Sue mean girl that ever was. She may act like the girl next door, but she’s a literal mean girl with no depth. So petite (but quirky because she has a huge appetite!) and ~plain (but everyone thinks she’s pretty and all the hot guys want her!) and judgmental (those girls are all skanks!). I was annoyed at how the author put down other characters to try to make her look better by comparison; there was so much obvious girl-hate that I wondered how Lexi even had a best friend (let alone, multiple admirers).
Jase was no prize either. Let’s be real.
The characters are sooo stereotypical and two-dimensional. The only decent one is Trish, because she actually seems like a nice person even though everyone she knows is terrible.
I’m not even mad at the fake-dating trope, but this book tries to convince you that jealousy is sexy and revenge is the norm. I wanted to yell at these idiot characters so many times. Like, JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER ALREADY.
This was such a cute YA read! The storyline was great and the characters were amazing! There are a lot of emotions that were put into this and I loved it! Most high a school books have characters that act way older than they are and this book had a little of that but for the most part everyone was your typical high school kid with high school drama. This truly was a cute book!
I was pretty sure my ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend was a life-force-sucking demon.
I found this quite funny. Lexi and her friends had me laughing. Jase and Lexi especially.
I made a mental note to myself right then that the next time I got a fake boyfriend, I would make sure it wasn’t someone I wanted to strangle.
Lexi gets dumped by her boyfriend of three years for a girl who just moved to town. Being heartbroken her best friend decided she needed a makeover to get revenge. Then the idea sprouts in Lexi’s mind to fake date her friend’s brother who her ex hates.
We all know how this goes. This journey though was hilarious and entertaining. I say I’ll have to check out the author’s other works. But this was perfect read for me before I start another historical fairy-tale retelling.
Good writing but plot doesn`t make sense. I liked the author's writing style but it felt like there were plot holes by the end, and a lot of things just didn't make sense to me.
I enjoyed this so much! I love, love, love fauxmances and friends-to-more romances, and we got a nice combination of two with this book.
Lexi and Jase had been really close, but grew apart several years ago, but after Lexi was dumped by her boyfriend, Jeffery, Jase agrees to be her fake boyfriend to make Jeffery jealous.
Watching Jase and Lexi rekindle their friendship was fun and touching, but there were times that broke my heart too, because I could tell neither was being honest with the other or themselves. Jase showed how much he cared in so many ways, and Lexi just couldn't see it. It sort of made me nuts, but you know, she eventually saw the light.
A side character, who gets a shout out is Lexi's brother, Eric. He was a younger brother, but he really came through for his sister and was a total sweetheart, when she really needed it. There were a few other characters, who surprised me in a good way, by having more depth than I originally suspected, and I like surprises like that.
Overall: An adorable and fun friends-to-more fauxmance-romance, which left me with a smile on my face.
I don't read synopsis's most of the time. I have certain triggers (ie kids) that if I know are in there will turn me off but if they come up in books and it's good they don't bother... I know I know..."shakes head at self" so I was surprised when this turned out to be a YA (teen) book. It had popped up with other rec's (I like college) anyway. I was drawn in and really enjoyed it. I would definitely give this to my high schooler.
This book was amazing. Utterly perfect. I fell for every character, I want a story for Lucas and Zach next I loved them so much. Seriously I can’t describe the emotions from this book.
Throughout this long plot, I find myself more invested in Trish and Eric's story. I guess they are more worth my time than these uninteresting main characters.
Cute YA book, characters were easy to like, but honestly the story was way too predictable. It was frustrating to see what was happening, yet it just kept going on and on and on and on. It felt like the writer was just trying to up the word count. There could have been some twists, turns, more substance in it. Lacked substance. Highly unlikely to happen.
This book opens with a plea to the reader to go easier on the author because this book took her ten years and a lot of courage to write. It was heartfelt and sweet admitting she hasn't had the text professionally edited and asking readers to overlook spelling and grammar mistakes she might have missed in her own edits. I felt for the author as she told her story of the ten years it took her to write this story. That said once you put something on Amazon it becomes not just a book, but a product and I don't think feeling proud that the author overcame her fears and published is good reason to treat her book differently from any other in a review. I also don't think it's a secret that I'm not really a nice reviewer. I'm honest, but if something bothers me about a book I'm going to say so.
Having said that I didn't notice any spelling or grammar mistakes. What I found was delightful teenage love story that effortlessly blend multiple well known romance tropes into a unique and enchanting book all their own.
I would have liked to have experienced Jace's point of view but the book was still great without it. Abram provided likable main characters and a fun cast of mostly fully developed secondary characters.
This one really was a delight to read from beginning to end.
-you got my fav enemies (used loosely but whatever they never spoke for four years) to lovers - you got the fake dating (idc idc idc I will never not read fake dating/marriage/relationship-thingy) - and kind of but not really a slow burn (well they are fake dating) - and you have chemistry (it wouldn't break the SWOON meter but it did make an appearance there)
I love long books and this book was long and I liked it but it... waffles like I don't mind waffling unless it has witty dialogue but if it doesn't than that I start skimming to the important part coming.
now the dialogue YAAAS I wasn't bored to tears I actually liked it and found entertaining like there's POTENTIAL THERE like in my humble opinion I feel like dialogue and chemistry trumps all I'm a romance junkie Iv read a many books I've found when there is snappy/witty banter It reels me in it doesn't matter if its weaker in other areas I won't even notice as I am too busy being entertained case in hand stalking jack the ripper by Kerri Maniscalco (although it is NOT WEAK in any areas and literal perfection). Maniscalo has me in a chokehold I'll read her books no matter what, same with sarah j maas and every other author on my favourite booklist but whatever . This book while not historical romance or high fantasy is ya romance contemporary where the ship and tension and dialogue drives it forward which was good but it could be better.
thing I found my eyes rolling my eyes on was this damned "so..." that kept propping if I drank I would probably knock one back every time and be a drunk by the end.
also the Characters were fleshed out nicely I liked the main character, Jase I wanted to clobber over the head LIKE REALLY DUDE?!?!? but that means I got invested which is good I cringed and I smiled and I went "oooh girl you really shouldn't" and rolled my eyes to the high heavens when the ex came crawling back we had the teenage angst but the ending made up for the angst I was put through so yay for that
All in all it was a good read there was no insta love thank the lawd and Ill keep the eye out on the author I feel like her next book is gonna be even better.
the author note was very sweet it was very humble and sincere I also liked that *shrugs*

This book was better than her other book. Though, Logan May have been annoying to Emma... At least he wasn’t like Jase was to Lexi ... because sheesh he was evil and rude all because he actually liked her and wanted her but he instead tries to rid of his feeling for her by hurting her getting caught kissing that cunt bucket girl Kylie... Idk how he does not see he had hurt her so much when he disrespected her to another level....even more, lucky she forgave him; you dearly have to LOVE deeply in LOVE to give that person who was rude, disrespectful for no reason to give them another chance. I know someone who did this now, but he is worse than Jase; I mean Jase is 100000% better.
I was glad that both he and Lexi finally told each other how they feel because I believed he liked her but he didn’t like her, I was as confused as Lexi was. But glad he came to his senses once he saw Zack with Lexi, I was irritated when he fought Zack for no particular reason. But glad everyone became friends, in the end. Also, I want a book with Trisha and Eric I wanna what will come of them.
3.5 stars Having read a version of this book when it was originally published on Fictionpress, it was honestly one of the best stories I read on there.
Has this story stood up to time and mature scrutiny? Kinda. My true rating for this is 3.5 stars but rounded to 4, because I have the fondest memories of it. The narrative doesn't seem as spectacular now and Jase and Lexi literally only have conversations regarding their childhoods or Jeffery or Kylie. This impressed me less because isn't their other topics they can discuss and bond over, like I dunno, how only female mosquitos drink blood etc etc
However I really dig this book still. Lexi was an awesome heroine and you're willing her to get revenge after her boyfriend dumps her for a grade A skank, by enlisting the help of her best friend's brother. I appreciate how she didn't mope after getting her heart broken by Jase (especially after Jeffrey) and was determined to get back on the saddle. Life is not made to constantly weep over men!
Kylie was also...perfect. like you want to think bad of her or hate her but she is not bad at all. Trish was a awesome best friend to Lexi and there were great side characters...Eric. Zach.
You know what? This is more a 4 than 3! I also chuckled loads and didn't remember the plot precisely so it was like going back in time but reading it for the first time as well today.
Great read, I recommend, a hidden gem probably. Amanda Abraham do write more! Thanks for ever coming on FP.
Decided to make the most of my Kindle Unlimited 3-month free trail, picked a couple of books to binge read until it expires so I downloaded some YA books because why not. You can't really go wrong, especially when they're free!
I thought I'd give this one a go and I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it! I'll keep this short and sweet, but honestly this author wrote a nicely paced, fun book about friendship and first loves, and I found it quite endearing. All the characters were interesting, others were a tad annoying but still, you get those in most books. There was something I liked about it compared to other YA books and that's the 'popular cheerleader' trope being.....a nice person?? This rarely happens, so that took me by surprise. Refreshing.
The reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 was mostly because of the overly dramatic parts, but maybe that's just me being old in thinking that teenagers blow things out of proportion, making things seem worse than they are. Not just that, but Jase (the lead male character) had an NA feel to him which I found interesting. It was just the way he was with protagonist Lexi, the 'being overly jealous and protective' moments and popping up all the time out of nowhere and you're like 'wow okay'. This definitely happens in NA, for sure. Of course it was predictable too, but I guess that's what you expect in these kind of books. If some huge plot twist happened then I would have been very surprised.
Overall, it was very charming. I found the side characters were pleasant, story was well paced and very enjoyable. Read this in an evening, so it's a very fast read considering I'm usually a slow as eff reader. I'm going to check this author out, see what else she's written!
I read this story years ago when it was first posted on FictionPress, and I remembered really liking it at the time. So when I saw it included as an Amazon Unlimited title, I knew I had to read it again. After I'd finished, I could see why it was so popular back on FictionPress (I used to get really excited when I'd receive an email alerting me that the author had posted another chapter).
It's a sweet story with likeable characters. I liked Lexi and Jase, in particular. But I do think all of the characters could have been developed further, with more detail added to the story. The characters felt a little flat at times, but it's still a good story. And for Abram, who I think may have been a teenager when she first wrote the story, it was an excellent effort. I just would have liked to see her develop the story and her writing further to make it a slightly more complex novel.
The end - of course - wasn‘t very surprising. It is your typical YA - not bad but not a masterpiece ether. I slightly fell in love with Trish the maincharacters best friend. All in all it was a pleasent sunday afternoon read.
'The Importance of Getting Revenge' by Amanda Abram was a delightful read, chock full of some of the best themes that YA writing has to offer - a lovestruck girl, a deliriously hot guy (of which there were plenty, at least according to main character Lexi), a tried and true best friend, and conflicts galore. Everything from the characterizations to the dialogue was well-written, and does a fine job of keeping readers glued to the story.
After having been dumped by her also very good-looking boyfriend on the day she was planning to take the next step in their relationship with him, she finds herself thrown into a plan that her best friend helps her cook up, but which she goes full force into as the story proceeds. Lexi and best friend Trish figure that she needs to get revenge on her ex, Jeffrey, by making him jealous and upset at the fact that he ever let her get away. Lexi's thought on how to do this is to make Jase, Trish's older and very good-looking - not to mention very popular and extremely wanted by all of the girls - brother, her fake boyfriend for the sake of making Jeffrey jealous. It stands to reason that all of the guys in the book are likely more good-looking due to the fact that they all hang out together, are all jocks, etc., but Lexi is always so down about her own looks as well as incapable of seeing how interested anyone of the opposite sex could possibly be in her. However, she hangs out with Trish, who is very good-looking, even if she doesn't know it or flaunt it, and her whole circle of friends, or at least anyone she hangs around with, is also described as very easy on the eyes. Self-esteem can certainly be an issue for anyone, no matter how popular, but it seems that she would have some more confidence due to her circle of friends.
As the plan springs into action, Lexi sometimes find it hard to discern if Jase is just acting or if he is really trying to be the perfect boyfriend for her. She always attributes it to the former, because, at least in her mind, there is not the slightest possibility that he can have the hots for her, even though she is falling for him, despite all of her inner and outer protests to the contrary.
The story is populated with a variety of characters. Lexi's parents are pretty well captured, from her mom who desperately wants her with Jase and doesn't hide it, to her dad, who is around, but remains pretty oblivious to his daughter's life in general - especially her love life. Jase's guy friends - mainly Eric and Zach - help the plot move along nicely, and even Jeffrey, Lexi's ex, becomes more well-formed throughout the novel.
'The Importance of Getting Revenge' has a great vibe and will have girls drooling over Jase, while simultaneously empathizing with Lexi's plight, even though they know she doesn't really have a foot to stand on much of the time. The story is sweet and sentimental, combining memories of friendships past with the hope of future romance. A captivating read that will resonate with readers well past the last page.
