The second book in the Hawaiian series by one of my favorite author's of Amish fiction, Wanda Brunstetter. Her books are automatic buy when she releases a new one, luckily she has a few new ones releasing soon. This is a bit different since I've never seen an Amish book set partially in Hawaii. This was a great kind of different and very enjoyable read. Take a stroll through the beautiful Hawaiian islands, enjoy some local delicacies and smell the island flowers. The characters are very warm and caring for one another. Well developed plot and believable story line.

The Hawaiian Discovery by Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter is a sequel to The Hawaiin Quilt. I found this book to be every bit as good as the first book was. This story picks up about two years later in time. By now Mandy and Ken have settled into married life and are running a B&B in Middlebury Indiana.
In this book the main character is Ellen , Mandy's best friend. I liked how the authors included characters from book one in this story and also added a few new ones as well. Readers were taken back and forth between Hawaii and Indiana and once to Pennsylvania.
In the beginning Mandy and Ken received bad news from Ken's mother in Hawaii. A rushed trip found this couple remaining there with Ken' s mother when his father died. From then on they face more trials and tribulations that they must work their way through. Ellen travels to Hawaii during a particularly rough patch of time to be there for Mandy and give her moral support. Life moves on and Ellen becomes interested in a man who works for Ken's mother. He is English and she is Amish so the two try to keep their relationship on a friendship level. There's a twist in the story as far as this situation goes. Lots of surprises and as the end drew closer I was kept turning the pages to see how it all ended.
I will say that Wanda and Jean write a very good story together. This may be fiction but the situations that come about are not unusual to things that happen in real life. The writers blended everything together smoothly in a way that readers can relate to. It's about being there for family and friends when needed . It's about forgiving yourself and learning to put your faith and trust in God to make all trials and tribulations work out for the best in the long run.
If you are a fan of Amish Fiction you will love this book. I would advise you to read The Hawaiian Quilt first if you haven't already done so. I highly recommend both books.
I won a ebook copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway . I was happy to review it and have been honest in my comments about how I felt about the book.

The Hawaiian Discovery by Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter is a sequel to The Hawaiian Quilt. I did not read the first book. but had no problem following this story. The story begins with Many and Ken in Kauai, helping his mother with the farm after the death of Ken's father. Ellen is back in Middlebury running their B&B until they return. When Ken has an accident he is going to need surgery and may not ever work again. Mandy and Ken sell the B&B as they need the money and Ellen is now without a job. She eventually heads to Hawaii to help Mandy and Ken's mother on the farm while he recuperates.

I will say that this book was a bit too cutesy for me. Yes, there is a tragedy, but there are real issues and it is rather coincidental how things"work out". I did like Ellen. She was a real friend to Mandy and gave up a lot to go to Hawaii and help her and Ken. She also tried very hard not to let her emotions and feelings for Rob move forward, but as we know, love often wins out. There are a few plotlines in this story such as being there for family and friends, forgiving yourself and others, putting your trust in the Lord and being true to your beliefs. If you can suspend belief, there are some issues such as a shark attack, Amish people who do not have a lot of money flying back and forth to Hawaii and the main land and the rather neat wrap-up at the end. I did enjoy this story, but it is not one of my favourites. If you are a fan of Amish Fiction you will love this book. I would advise you to read The Hawaiian Quilt first if you haven't already done so. I did listen to the audiobook of this story through the Hoopla app narrated by Rebecca Gallagher. I am not enamoured with this narrator. Her voice is a bit harsh and not the easiest to listen to. I will think twice about listening to her narration again.

I have to admit that I didn’t like Ellen at the end of The Hawaiian Quilt. I found her to be self-righteous and cranky. I also didn’t approve of her meddling in Mandy’s love life—especially considering that Mandy was not a baptized church member. It’s not like she would have been shunned if she chose to stay in Hawaii. I’m sure that this is real-to-life but it still made me not like her.

However, Ellen did a lot of growing up in the year (or so) that takes place off-script. I actually really liked her in this book. I saw a gradual change in her character and I think a lot of her growth was due to her friendship with Mandy.

This book dealt with some fairly unique topics for this genre. I have to say that a shark attack (spoiler alert…sorry!) in an Amish book is not something I’ve ever read before. Then again, I’ve never read an Amish book set in Hawaii either so…there’s that.

I felt that Rob’s story was somewhat easy to figure out. I had part of his story figured from the moment I met him. But, when his backstory was revealed, I totally fell for his character. I love characters who have to overcome obstacles.

This series is just great. I feel like the characters complex and I’m reminded of why I truly fell in love with Wanda Brunstetter’s books so many years ago.

I would definitely suggest this book to others who love the genre and I would reread this series again myself.

What a sweet, easy-to-read story! The Hawaiian Discovery is a sequel to The Hawaiian Quilt, bringing you back in touch with Mandy and her friends.
You get caught up with Mandy’s life and see how things are unfolding with her. This sequel focuses on her Amish friend Ellen who returns to Hawaii to help Mandy out in her time of need. It’s a sweet story of forgiveness and love and I love the Hawaiian setting. Wanda Brunstetter has a beautiful way with descriptions and her stories are always light-hearted. Another enjoyable read by Wanda.

Readers can once again experience a visit to Hawaii without leaving the comfort of their favorite reading spot in Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter's new book, The Hawaiian Discovery. This is the 2nd book in the Hawaiian Quilt series, and focuses on the lives of friends Mandy Williams (formerly Frey) and Ellen Lambright. Although this is the second book in the series, readers who didn't read the first book will still enjoy this story, and will not spend a lot of time filling in the missing pieces, thanks to the talented writing team of Wanda and Jean Brunstetter. The Hawaiian Discovery flows effortlessly from where The Hawaiian Quilt left off. In The Hawaiian Discovery, we see Mandy nicely settled into married life, but her family's life is about to be turned upside down. Luckily, her friend Ellen Lambright is willing to be there for her friend and help out in any way she can. In the course of helping her friend, Ellen finds herself facing decisions she didn't anticipate. The book spans the miles between Indiana and the Hawaiian island of Kauai, and whether the authors are describing the beauty of Kauai (nicknamed The Garden Isle) or a snowy landscape in Indiana, you feel as though you are right there. But this book isn't a travel guide - although you'll want to visit both places - it is a story of patience, perseverance, and faith through life's trials. Although there are several different sub plots occurring at the same time, and the trials are different, the situations that these characters find themselves going through are believable, as is their journey through them. Perhaps that is why I enjoyed reading this book -- in its pages, I found wonderful examples of what it means to be led by faith, and not by circumstances. I received a copy of this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Hawaiian Discovery, a sequel to The Hawaiian Quilt, is an amazing story co-authored by Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter. This book continues the wonderful story of Mandy and Ken Williams and Ellen. This story takes the reader on many wonderful adventures and keeps the readers interest to discover what happens next.

The characters are very likeable and realistic and i enjoyed watching them evolve throughout the story especially Ellen. Ellen was my favorite character in this story. She is a strong minded young Amish lady who knows what she wants in her life. Because of her caring personality she heads to the island of Kauai to help her best friend when tragedy strikes Mandy's family. While helping her friend Ellen finds a few adventures of her own.

This story teaches us how to help those in need but there is another secondary storyline evolving thru out this story that shows us how forgiveness can change a persons life too. With these two wound together one amazing story has been written. I enjoyed this story immensly and I highly recommend it to all readers who love the Amish genre.

I was given an advanced complimentary copy of this amazing book to read and review by Barbour Publishing and co-authors Wanda and Jean Brunstetter. I was not approached to post a favorable review at anytime. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story.

CONGRATULATIONS to Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter for another wonderful combined writing experience for their readers to enjoy. I know I will be enjoying more amazing books by these authors in the future.

I was surprised at the fact that I thought this book was just "ok". I have been a fan of Wanda Brunstetter for awhile, and especially enjoy it when she teams up with Jean Brunstetter. But there was just something a little bit off about this book for me. To be honest, I think it was Rob's character. I can't go into details, because it will ruin the surprise in the story line, but I will say that what happened to his character I think was just a little bit too much for me. It seemed almost forced to make the story line work, and not natural or realistic. Now, there are tons of great reviews for this book, so remember that this is merely my opinion!

The setting of this book was absolutely stunning, I mean it's Hawaii! But even Hawaii needs a good author to describe its beauty, and Wanda and Jean have done a wonderful job in doing that. They have a way of writing to make me feel like I am in both Indiana and Hawaii just by closing my eyes. I also enjoyed Ellen's character. She shows what a true friend is like, and she's something we could all stand to be a little more like (most of the time). She stepped in when needed, she moved across an ocean to help her friend, and she never really complained.

Overall I think fans of Amish fiction, and especially the team of Wanda and Jean will enjoy this book. It just didn't happen to be one of my favorites. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Reading about the adventures of Amish families in Hawaii is a clever twist to Brunstetter's well written Amish books. In the second book of this series, Ellen works in the B&B owned by her friends, Mandy and Ken, and loves her job. When Ken's father passes, they leave Ellen in charge of the B&B and go to Hawaii to help Ken's mother and work on the family's farm. Then Ellen's father has health problems of his own and Ellen has to help out in the shoe store, where we see a potential romance with Ezra, one of the employees, but the chemistry is just not there for her. When trouble refuses to abate in Hawaii, Ellen gets permission from the church elders to fly out to be with Mandy who really needs the emotional and spiritual support. It's also interesting to see Ellen's budding relationship with Rob Smith, who helps out with the poultry business over there. Ellen is a baptized member of the church; this could lead to heartbreak, but then we see that "Rob" may not be as English as he seems. You will root for Mandy as she seizes the happiness she deserves by finding passion in her family, friends and in her work at the B&B. Thanks for the win; I enjoyed this book a lot and hope there are additions to this series.

This story is the second in Wanda and Jean Brunstetter's Hawaiian quilt series. The authors share with us where best friends Mandy and Ellen are in their lives. Changes are coming for both the girls though. Mandy and her husband have a family emergency that results in a relocation for them. Ellen shows her true friendship for Mandy by helping out, and then even travels to again assist her friend during her time of need. There is a special bit of happiness that comes in there too for Mandy. Ellen has her own adventures and decisions to make while helping Mandy. What will Ellen decide and how will it affect her future? This story tells of true friendship and the generous service of one friend to another. Ellen and Mandy both must lean to their faith to help them with their decisions and difficult circumstances. I enjoyed the characters in this story as much as I did in the first book of the series. I found their strength of faith inspiring and Ellen's true dedication to her friend Mandy encouraging. A great read not to be missed! I received a free advanced reader's copy of this book from the publisher and author, and wanted to share my opinion.

This is book 2 of the Hawaiian series by Wanda & Jean Brunstetter.

We are reunited with characters from the first book and meet new ones. The book begins in Indiana where Mandy and Ken have moved and now run a bed and breakfast. Mandy’s best friend, Ellen works at the B&B for them. Ken’s father, living in Hawaii, passes away and Ken and Mandy feel they need to permanently stay in Hawaii to help his mother with the family farm so sell the B&B. Ellen feels she needs to be with Mandy to support them and help out anyway she can, for however long she can. Once in Hawaii again, we see many exciting things take place in all of their lives. Love, family and faith are the integral parts of their lives leading to a future, directed by God.

This was a very enjoyable book, which I read in a couple of days. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy Amish books, especially those by the Brunstetters. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

I stayed up late one night to read this book and I very much enjoyed this novel.
I enjoyed being taken to Hawaii for free and I loved meeting the people there.
I also loved how the author shows us that even tho there are trials and tribulations in life we can overcome them with God's help if we let Him.
There wasn't much that I didn't like only that I didn't like the deception that went on in the book. But, I guess without that there wouldn't be a story!
Deception is never good!! As the saying goes" it will all come out in the wash eventually."
Blaming yourself never is good. All it will do is eat you up on the inside until you take it to God.
Ellen is a very brave lady. I admired her very much!! For more reasons than one. I just hope that she is paid in full someday for her kindness towards others.
Wanda thanks you for another awesome read!! I sure hope there will be another Hawaii story in the future!!
I strongly recommend this book.

It always surprises me to read a story with Amish people in Hawaii, but these books are really good! And the return of familiar characters is always enjoyable.

The Brunstetter’s do a great job of putting the reader into the beautiful Aloha State. Their descriptions allow those of us who have never been there to “see” the splendor of the island. As well, the characters in this story are well developed and likeable; surely we’ve met!

In a story where things don’t go smoothly, you’ll see the thread of faith in God and love of family and friends. The character’s willingness to sacrifice their wants for the good of others really made me think.

If you enjoy Amish fiction I recommend this book. Whether you’re in sunny Hawaii, snowy Indiana, or somewhere in between, you’re sure to love The Hawaiian Discovery. And as always. there are delicious recipes at the end!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Ellen Lambright is Mandy Frey's best friend. (Mandy is from The Hawaiian Quilt.) Mandy is married in The Hawaiian Discovery. She and her husband move to Hawaii to help out Ken's (her husband's mother) when his father passes away after a heart attack. Things are going pretty well for them until Ken has an accident that requires a long hospital stay and rehab. Ellen gets permission from the elders to fly so she can help Mandy. She meets a worker that has been helping them. They start having feelings for each other but, they can;t do anything about them. She is Amish and has joined the church and Ken is English. He also seems to have a secret past that he is unwilling to talk about. Then, she hears him talking on the phone in The Amish language. She questions him about it and finds out that he is Amish, too. But, he hasn't joined the church yet.
What a great sequel by Wanda Brunstetter!

The Hawaiian Discovery by Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter is another charming, contemporary Amish story in their Hawaii series. Again set in the beautiful state of Hawaii, readers find Ellen and Mandy dealing with the struggles that life has put in their lives. I loved the returning characters and the new ones too--strong and realistic with a depth to their emotions, strengths, and foibles that readers will connect well with. Lots of discovery going on...discovery of forgiveness and acceptance, discovery of strength in very difficult circumstances and of course, discovery of love. The Hawaiian Discovery is a touching story of
friends, family, and faith. The Brunstetters are wonderful storytellers and you won't want to miss this one!

The Hawaiian Discovery is the second book in the Hawaiian series. Many and Ken own a B&B in Indiana. Mandy's friend Ellen works there and she enjoys it. Ken receives a phone call from back home in Hawaii. He gets bad news about his father, so he and Mandy have to make a trip to Hawaii. After being there for a little while. They make the decision that they are going to sell there B&B in Indiana. When Ellen receives the news she is sad and wondering what she's going to do now. She really does want to work at her father's shoe store.

What is Ellen going to do? What's going to be in store for Mandy and Ken? You will have to read the book to find out. I loved this book it was a wonderful page turner. I didn't want to stop once I started reading it.

I love a great love story, and I really love Hawaii so this book was right up my alley.

I read this in one sitting it was by far the best sequel I have read in a very long time.

I laughed, I cried and I was so full of joy.

This was written with so much love and how in the world two people write one book that makes sense and fits together so well I will never know.

You do NOT want to miss this 5 star book. It can be read as a stand alone but please read the first book The Hawaiian Quilt you will be so glad that you did.

The Hawaiian Discovery is the second installment from Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter’s Hawaiian series. I love this unique story of beautiful Hawaii and Amish love. Ellen is a likable character and I enjoyed the adventure she goes on. There are a few plot twists and surprises that I know I did not see coming.

Overall, The Hawaiian Discovery is a good book that I recommend. It would be helpful for a reader to first read book one, The Hawaiian Quilt. I give this one four stars.

I received this book from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Beautiful

I won a copy of the book from Goodreads Giveaways, I was not required to give a favorable review. This is a wonderful continuation of the series. Even though Mandy left the Amish she did before joining and so she was able to be close to her friend Ellen, who ended up being such support during her bad times. Ellen went to Hawaii to help Mandy when her husband Ken got attacked by a shark. But she was also able to he Rob\Reuben find his way back to his faith.

The Hawaiian Discovery by Wanda E. Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter is the sequel to The Hawaiian Quilt. Ellen Lambright is back home in Middlebury, Indiana working at Mandy and Ken Williams bed and breakfast. One day Mandy and Ken receive a call that his father his ill and they quickly fly to Hawaii. When Ken’s father passes away, they are needed to stay on in Hawaii to assist his mother with the farm and sell their bed and breakfast. While looking for a new job, Ellen works at her father’s shoe store with Ezra Bontrager. Ezra wishes to go out with Ellen, but he is fearful of rejection. A few months later, Ken is in a horrible accident, and Ellen quickly flies to Hawaii to be with Mandy. Ellen assists the Williams employee, Rob Smith with their organic chicken farm. As Ellen spends more time with Rob, she can feel herself falling in love with him. However, Ellen has been baptized into the Amish church and would not hurt her family by leaving. Is there a possibility of a future between Rob and Ellen? Rejoin Ellen and Mandy in The Hawaiian Discovery.

I thought The Hawaiian Discovery was well-written and had a steady pace. I do recommend reading The Hawaiian Quilt before you begin The Hawaiian Discovery. The characters are nicely developed with the realistic foibles. We get beautiful descriptions of Middlebury and Hawaii. The plants and sights in Hawaii sounded amazing along with the pleasing weather. I cannot imagine working or running a chicken farm. The smells described had me wrinkling my nose in distaste and I could imagine the noise caused by so many birds (my neighbors have some chickens and they are a noisy flock). It was nice to revisit Mandy, Ellen and the other ladies. The Christian elements are masterfully woven into the story. Forgiveness from others and of oneself being the biggest theme in The Hawaiian Discovery. Guilt from an event can weigh a person down and change the course of their life. Forgiveness is a healing balm. In The Hawaiian Discovery, we see the importance of family, friendship, loyalty, faith, prayer and patience. The Hawaiian Discovery is a special story that will linger with you and the ending will leave you with a smile on your face. I look forward to returning to this world in the next book in The Hawaiian Series.

After finishing this book and struggling to find the words to review it I decided to go back and read my review of the first book in the series, The Hawaiian Quilt. I found it surprising that a lot of the feelings I have for this book are the same as I had for it. While I enjoyed The Hawaiian Discovery, I didn't love it. (Same for the first book.)

In my review of The Hawaiian Quilt, I said that I liked Ellen more and more throughout the book. I really liked her in The Hawaiian Discovery because I think she embodied everything readers look for in Amish characters. She's a good daughter, good friend, reliable, and dependable. She was everything I expected her to be. While I didn't care for Mandy much in the first book I liked her in this book. I think this is due to the fact that she is clearly English in this book and not wavering between Amish and English. There were several secondary characters in this story but none that really grew on me.

This book takes place in Hawaii and Indiana. As with the first book in the series, I was glad for this because without the Indiana scenes this book just wouldn't have seemed Amish at all. During the scenes that take place in Hawaii, it was oftentimes easy to forget that Ellen was Amish. I applaud the authors for trying to keep the genre and stories fresh but I think Hawaii may be too much of a stretch. During the Hawaiian scenes, I felt like I was just reading a contemporary fiction story and not Amish fiction.

Sometimes I felt like the dialogue in the book was off a bit. It was at times too formal and didn't sound like things that friends or family would say to each other. I had the same issue with this in the first book as well. Perhaps it's due to a fairly new author's writing.

While I had some issues with this book the story was interesting and it was a quick read for me. While I thought the first book was geared more for young adults this book had a more mature feel to it. I believe fans of the genre and Wanda Brunstetter will enjoy this story. Happy reading!

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to write a review. All opinions are mine.

Ellen and Mandy were best of friends since childhood. Ellen was privileged to work at the Bed and Breakfast that Mandy and Ken owed in Middlebury, Indiana. When they were called back to Hawaii due to Ken’s father passing Ellen took care of the BnB for them. Then further unexpected tragic struck Ken and Mandy while they were assisting his mother with the family organic chicken farm. Ellen had another opportunity to lean support to her dear friend, Mandy, by flying to Hawaii this time after the sale of the BnB.

Rob was a secretive man that lived with Ken’s best friend, Taavi Kuman (readers met him in book one) in Hawaii. There’s mystery surrounding him until Ellen overheard a conversation which brought about issues of his integrity. Will Ellen be able to return to Indiana and forget about Rob aka Ruben or will she long to return to Hawaii where Ken and Mandy found a new opportunity to serve others after Ken’s attack in the ocean?

With Brunstetter’s trips to Hawaii she created vivid descriptive scenes of Kapaau, Hawaii on the Island of Kauai, which caused this reader to experience life in Hawaii. The Hawaiian Discovery has characters with real life struggles trying to discover where they truly belong. Through prayer, seeking forgiveness and unexpected opportunities that came about that gave the hero and heroine fulfillment and new beginnings that only their loving Heavenly Father could give them.

Readers will appreciate this story by Wanda and Jean Brunstetter. It can be read as a standalone, but reading The Hawaiian Quilt will give readers a clearer understanding of the four friends Ellen, Mandy, Barbara and Sadie from Middlebury, Indiana.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and the authors. I was not required to write a positive review but have shared my honest thoughts.

It was nice to revisit the beautiful state of Hawaii through the authors eyes. The beauty of the flowers and beaches were easy to visualize. I never thought of Hawaii having mosquitoes, but it was interesting to find out that they are bad during the summertime. I always picture Hawaii with beauty everywhere and no pesky insects. I liked Ellen and her friendship she had with Mandy. It was very hard when Mandy and her husband moved to Hawaii. What was really surprising for Ellen was the decision to sell the B&B that Ken and Mandy owned.

I could sense Ellen a bit lost after the B&B sold. She loved working there. She looks for a job, but an unexpected call from Mandy changes everything. Another interesting detail I learned was the Amish had to get special permission to fly somewhere. I just take it for granted that we can hop on a plane and go. A tragic accident with Ken has put Mandy in need of her best friend.

Ellen jumps right in when she arrives and takes Mandy's place at work. I wish I had half the energy Ellen has. She never seems to slow down. Ken has a long recovery ahead of him, and Mandy really needs Ellen to stay for awhile. I liked the turmoil Ellen faces when she must decide between staying in Hawaii and perhaps finding romance with a certain someone, or going back home where her family is. There is also someone she had started to grow fond of at home, so what will she decide? I liked how the characters prayed through situations and I think it helped them grow spiritually. Overall a good book and nice ending.

I received a copy of this book from the authors. The review is my own opinion.

Admittedly, I have not yet read “The Hawaiian Quilt”, although I intend to rectify that soon and delve into the backstory of some of the characters. While “The Hawaiian Discovery” can be read as a standalone, there are spoilers for the first book. The Amish subgenre of Christian fiction is one that I’ve wanted to explore for a while now, and I’m glad that I finally had the opportunity to do so. The Amish community portrayed in this novel surprised me by being more progressive than I expected while still holding firm to their faith in God.

“The Hawaiian Quilt” packs quite a bit into its approximately 250 pages. The main character is Ellen Lambright, but there is also a diverse cast of supporting characters who take the story in different directions that eventually converge. Some of the time lapses in the story were a bit disconcerting, although this did not really interrupt the flow of the narrative. Partly due to the number of characters, there was a constant sense of action, which made the story seem to unfold quickly. Ellen’s life changes dramatically more than once, and the challenges that she and her friends face are relevant to contemporary readers, from illness to friendship to romance. How they approach these tests of faith is inspirational, as is the mingling of both the English and the Amish world, which also extends to the reading experience with interspersed Pennsylvania Dutch vocabulary, making this an interesting and thought-provoking read.

The second book in Wanda and Jean Brunstetter’s Hawaiian series, The Hawaiian Discovery is a book about love, family, and faith.
We rejoin Ellen and Mandy in Indiana, where Mandy and Ken have relocated and purchased a bed and breakfast. Ellen is working at their business to assist with the daily operations and she truly loves her job.
When Ken’s father passes suddenly, they are needed in Hawaii. Mandy and Ken return to Hawaii to assist his mother on their poultry farm and Ellen stays to run the B&B with the help of their friend Sadie.
Ezra is happy working at Ellen’s father’s shoe store. He is quite smitten with the lovely Ellen but can’t get up the nerve to ask her out. When she begins working at the shoe store to help out her father, he tries to find away.
When tragedy strikes in Hawaii, Ellen gets permission to fly out to be with Mandy. She quickly rediscovers her love for Hawaii and her friends she left behind. She also meets Rob Smith, a young man that is hired to help out at the poultry business.
It was great to be back in Hawaii for this book. It is really odd to think about an Amish story taking place in Hawaii, but Wanda and Jean pull it off so well. I love the old and new characters, as well as, the story line. Another well written hit!!

In this sequel to The Hawaiian Quilt, the authors once again take us from Indiana to Hawaii where we catch up with characters from the first book and we meet some new ones in this book.

I actually liked this book more than I did the first one. It was nice to see Mandy with her husband, Ken in Indiana with their own B&B. It was sad to see them have to leave for Hawaii due to an emergency in Ken's family. So far in both in books, I've been more fond of Ellen than any of the other characters because I find her more grounded and responsible. The friendship between Mandy and Ellen is as strong as ever and it was touching to see Ellen head off to Hawaii to offer her love and support to Mandy as circumstances keep the couple there longer than they anticipated.

There were a couple of things that surprised me with the characters in this book and I love when that happens. I suggest you read the books in order to gain an understanding as to why this is a story of Amish traveling back and forth between Indiana and Hawaii and why both states have a special meaning to all of them.

Overall, I liked the story of friendship, faith and new beginnings and recommend it to readers of both Amish and Christian fiction.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed my second "trip to Hawaii". Although The Hawaiian Discovery is a sequel to The Hawaiian Quilt, the authors fill in enough background that you can enjoy this novel as a standalone. But I would highly encourage you not to miss the first one either.
It was good to be able to catch up with Ellen, Mandy and other characters that have seemed like friends. Ellen has been working at the Bed and Breakfast in her hometown that Mandy and her husband Ken own. But when Ken's father suffers a heart attack and has surgery, the couple pack up and leave for Hawaii to be with his mother. Ellen manages the B & B for them until a tragedy occurs and they decide to sell and stay in Hawaii. Ellen feels lost and wonders what she'll do now. Another unforeseen circumstance happens and Ellen packs her suitcase and heads to Hawaii to help her best friend. The discovery that Ellen finds in Hawaii could possibly change her life forever. But seven months is also a long time for her to be away from her family and her Amish church.
This was an easy read with interesting characters and scenery that was described beautifully. It moved right along and I finished it in a day and a half it was so good.

Ellen is morning the loss of her best friend and her job. But when she gets the one call the could shatter Mandy's life. Ellen jumps on the plane and sets out to help what she did expect was what and who she would meet and how it might change her life. Can she be there for her friend and also keep her Amish beliefs or will she leave the faith and stay in Hawaii?
I loved this book. I have read a few of Wanda's other books and she has a way of writing a story that has a ton of characters and it feels like you are really only following one or two. The story just flowed and was super fun and easy to follow. I like how the characters were faced with trials that seemed lifelike and nothing was held nothing back. I also enjoyed the lightheartedness of this story and how it was a good clean read for anyone. You really can't go wrong with this sweet love story.
