I recently came across the blog post version of this!

I think my favourite thing is, paralleling the punishment and care the MC's dominant metes out, the protagonist has internalized the teamaking ritual in the same way. There's a thermometer there for the use if they need it, there's a scale. They do not need either, because the process is measured with the habitual and bodily knowledge that comes from practice and self-assurance. They are mindful of each stage of the ritual, counting the steeping time in breaths, certain of how much tea to use because of the times they've measured it out before. They are content to obey their dominant's exacting orders for boiling and steeping, but at the same time, they reflect on the reason for the rules the dominant has explained to them. This is not ignorant subservience, but enacting a carefully-considered process, which, like the kink they play out, educates them and fulfills them. It's clear the protagonist loves being bossed around and placed into positions of subservience in both kink and tea-making contexts. Having learned the ritual and its reasons, they have gained a surer knowledge of themselves.

This is a lot of complexity to pack into a very simple story constructed around one moment, into which flows memories and future desires, and it's beautiful.

I don't know how something with no sex in it can be so sexy.

Gods. I feel so completely seen and I love that I’m captured so perfectly in this glimpse - and yet this isn’t remotely my kind of kink. Fuck all those memes about “find someone who looks at you like x looks at y.” I want to find this. #lifegoals

Very well executed as always for Alexis Hall, even though it's not really my kind of thing.
