Dragon Spirit #4

Pursuing Flight

Rate this book
Their connection is as wild as their magic… and just as dangerous. Nero survived the loss of his inamorata by the skin of his dragon-spirit’s teeth. Since then he’s focused every ounce of his power — magical and political — on hoarding the most unlikely of innocent human mages. Rescuing them instead of following orders to murder them. Now his secret, forbidden coterie is under threat from Rebecca Scott. Victim. Soldier. Mage unaware. A woman trapped in a tortuous lab experiment, whose pain and terror echo down the unbreakable cords binding them together. Unsure if her hell is real or a PTSD-induced nightmare, Becca jumps at one slim chance to escape the sadistic white-coats probing her broken psyche, following a strange, alluring voice throbbing from somewhere deep in her bones. When Becca’s desperation yanks Nero to her side, he makes a staggering discovery. This courageous, half-crazed woman is, impossibly, his second inamorata. But even if she gets her wish to carve their souls apart, it’s too late for him. If her heart stops, so will his… and everyone under his protection, human and dragon, will be lost. Pursuing Flight is the fourth book in the Dragon Spirit series. Satisfy your cravings for an action-packed, sensual paranormal romance and read Pursuing Flight today!

This is the first book I've read from this author, and boy have I been missing out. This is the fourth book in this series and although it can be enjoyed without reading the others first, I would have loved to have read the others beforehand. That being said, I absolutely loved this book. It captured me from the beginning. Nero is the kind of alpha I would want for my very own. Becca is a soldier suffering from PTSD made worse by her abduction and torture by a rogue dragon. Somehow during her torture, she now has a mental connection with Nero that she doesn't believe is real. She thinks he's the "devil's master"and she's crazy and losing her mind. Due to the connection, she's also in Nero's head and can hijack his thoughts unknowingly. He can she what she sees and hears what she hears, distracting him from his work and his thoughts. He needs to find her and figure out what is happening. At the same time, the dragon Prince is losing his fight with sanity and threatening all dragon kind. If you like military action, magic, court politics and/or dragons, this is the book for you. The characters are so full and multi-dimensional I could feel all the turmoil in each of them. Even though I hadn't read the previous books, I felt like I could understand them and some of what they had gone through to get to this spot. I must say again that I LOVED THIS BOOK. Suffice it to say that you really must pick up a copy of this book and enjoy all of the nuances of this story. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I was gifted a copy of this book
The first half of the story is really engaging with mystery, suspense, and dragons. Dragons who do not change into one nor fly in the sky. One thing I noticed is that no one walks; they all use gates and that was super weird. I understand using gates to go across town or elsewhere but from the bedroom to the kitchen? Yeah, nope. There were too many repeats about soldiers taking care of those who couldn't (Rebecca) and how he would not survive losing another inamorata (Nero). The end is ridiculous with the sorcerer flashing cards left and right to cast mini spells. The author promises another 3 books to finish off this series/serials but never published them. There are still unanswered questions, leftover problems, and a follow-up on everything else. One star off.

I really enjoyed this story and the whole series. There is a lot going on with twist and turns that it keeps glue to the pages. I look forward to the next and I can't wait to see what happens and how thing escalades to final confrontation.

Nero saves innocent human mages instead of murdering them. Now his secret is out and there’s trouble ahead. First book by this author, but not the last.
