An Alpha Billionaire Dark Romance from the NYT bestselling author of A TERRIBLE LOVE.
Who is Shepard?
Léo Dubois is a Handler. A Handler of Women. Himself--and the right hand man serving the king of the French mob. When Shepard gifts his wife the divorce she deserves, setting her free from abuse, Shepard begins a fresh start in a new land.
A year later, what he gets are pursuers who wish to recruit him for a role he never wants to fill again. Marissa is a new acquisition who falls prey to the long reach of la famille, and Shepard makes choices that endanger them both, though they are the right ones.
Can Shepard shed the sins of his past, and find love with a woman as abused as he? Can they find love with each other, though neither have been loved before?

Can a villain be redeemed? I'm not even sure if they deserve to be, but the story and the potential behind it is worth trying.
Despite the number behind the title, this book can be read as a stand-alone and enjoyed immensely. Of course, it's been a long time since I read the previous books but the few chapters that explain who Shepard is, the villain, serve its purpose with sharp, bloody efficiency.
I'm dazed, maybe in shock a little. This piece of black soul will leave you bare and raw. The villain has done unspeakable deeds of horror, yet the origin of that is also steeped in non-consent, inescapable horrors committed against him. That is the unbreakable link that binds him to Marissa, another victim who fights back with all her wit and will. I loved this story, despite its dark themes, or maybe because of them. Abuse, the worst kind, inflicted for too long.
Both characters have escaped it, barely, when their paths cross, he as the weapon or maybe a saviour in disguise, she as the target that finds herself uncannily pulled towards him in spite of the danger.
I really liked how brutal and contained Shepard can be, how his bad side was yelling for certain death while his brutalized goodness yearns to be free and loved. The steamy passion between Shepard and Marissa is emotionally provocative and blissfully sensual.
The book is terribly, beautifully dark, the prose is strong and wistful. It's about love denied but triumphant, dark men who can love, strong women who survive, and all the dangerous and tender passion they can share in those scenes that really melt the core.
Reading this last book with Shepard and Marissa brought the entire series full circle. Every aspect of this story was wonderful as it allowed one to understand LaFamille mob and all the atrocities that eventually brought about a beautiful ending to each couple. Overall an incredible series that will stay with me for a long time. The storytelling really drew me in with each book and this final book provided moving closure to it all. Must read series!
The Token(#10):Shepard:Alpha Billionaire Dark Romance
Just finished the last book of The Token Series and each book is as great as the next,I was happy that Shepard (aka Leo) even found his happy ever after I think we need a reunion of all the characters .I enjoyed each book.
I had been waiting to find out what would happen with Shepard after everything that he went through to rescue Juliette. When the book finally release, I drank it up. What I love about the author's writing is that she doesn't leave anything in the dark even when it's a dark romance, which many of them are. I've read all of the Token novels, and I fell in love with Shepherd. I've always wondered what made him into the man he had become and what changed him into the man he was throughout this novel. We get to see from the beginning of the pain to the place where he discovers real joy. There's a connection between these two severely broken people, people who don't know if they can ever be put back together. Shepherd and Marissa have similar backgrounds of pain and betrayal, and yet, here they are, surviving. But can they learn to live?
It’s one of those books that has you rooting for the bad guy, knowing that he has a heart in there somewhere. It left me absolutely wrung out. The whole time you simply want them to have something good. It’s a standalone that explains so much about Shepherd, but it also has some of Juliette’s and Thorn’s story, so you are able to comprehend the dynamics between the characters. But read the other Token novels if you really want to know what leads up to the moment this one starts. It was beautifully and painfully written, and another masterpiece by Marata Eros. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
I have read all ten books in this series an liked all of them, but this is the best. This a stand a lone book, but the others are great also. Love the characters that are running from purely evil people, an still fall in love. I love this author I have read three of her series and couldn't put them down. You really need to check the Death Series that's where I started.
