The Keatyn Chronicles #1-4

The Keatyn Chronicles: Books 1-4

Rate this book

Keatyn's crazy life comes together in one perfect script in this special combined edition of the first four books in the series.

Stalk Me: Keatyn's life is following the script she wrote for the perfect high school experience. She's popular, goes to the best parties, dates the hottest guy, and sits at the most-coveted lunch table. But she's thinking about giving it all up to date an adorable surfer. So she writes a new script. One where all the pieces of her life come together in perfect harmony. But little does she know, there's someone who will do anything to make sure that doesn't happen.

Kiss Me: Keatyn's always written scripts for her perfect life. But she never would have scripted this. She's now at a boarding school, where she has new challenges to face. Like tutoring a hottie god that tortures her with his smile. And having the most popular girl hate her because of a guy. So she's decided to stop trying to script her life and just live it. Because who knows how long she has left.

Date Me: Keatyn's giving up scripting her life. Sort of. She's done with the God of all Hotties. She's going to give her heart to the boy whose kisses are hotter than molten lava and who asked her to Homecoming in a big, crazy way. Because there's so much to look forward to. Parties at the Cave. Homecoming festivities. Drama Tryouts. Shopping trips to NY. But things aren't as perfect as they seem. She knows he's still out there and getting more desperate. And even though she wants to pretend she'll never see him again, she knows she will. And she's afraid that this time, she might not get away.

Love Me: Keatyn’s mom says that you can’t love someone until you learn to love yourself. So even though Vincent is getting more and more scary and doing a nationwide search for her, Keatyn vows to try to love herself and worry a little less about boys. But there are so many cute ones . . . Dawson - The gorgeous boy who made a mistake, but whose molten lava kisses and steaminess she can’t freaking resist. Aiden - The God of all Hotties, who is practically infused with love potion. Who she thought liked her, but now says he wants to be her friend. Brooklyn - The boy who first stole her heart and has always loved her—well, until the whole cabana incident. And what about Cooper Steele? The new soccer coaching, health teaching, tattooed hottie who was sent to guard her body. What’s a girl to do?

I picked this book up on a whim not knowing much about the story. I like long books and series and I thought I would give it a try. I also usually enjoy YA stories as they tend to be more simple (adulting can be tedious). However, given how much this story revolves around sex I would not have classified it as YA.

I get that some teenagers are flighty and shallow. I even get that sometimes we act in ways that we later reflect on and regret. However, Keatyn takes this to a whole new level! Throughout much of these four stories I wanted to reach in and smack Keatyn. One of the prevalent themes in the books seems to be when should I have sex with someone? Although this is an important question that all people need to ask themselves I find that one of the themes could be dangerous to the self esteem of young people (another reason I don't consider this to be a YA book). This theme is that Keatyn's relationship to Sander is a sham because they are not having sex.

I also found some aspects of the story to be a little far fetched. I get that being a victim of stalking is very difficult because until an actual crime is committed there is not much the police can do and in this case even less because Vincent has money and connections. Regardless of how we feel as people about how abhorrent that is I actually think that is one thing that Jillian Dodd got spot on. However, some of the things I did find far fetched were with whom she was allowed to maintain contact.

I also found there to be a lot of disparity on what was described and what wasn't. I felt that I was constantly reading about what the exact outfit she was wearing was but I don't think I could describe her home at all, besides her closet. I just felt that some areas had too much description and others not enough.

Overall there were some characters I liked - Cush and Aiden - and a lot that I didn't like - basically everyone else -

I did read the other books up to book 7 to see how the teenage years of the story ends but I will not be reading this story again, or likely anything else written by Jillian Dodd

On the positive side, the primary character (Keatyn) can be a very strong and compelling character engaged in a pretty good story line that involves characters some of which are one-dimensional and others who display more facets. On the negative side, the books definitely need better editing both for errors and to create a tighter story line and eliminate duplication. Also, the repetitive and tiring focus on boys and sex overwhelms the story (in my view unnecessarily so). While the boys/sex focus does allow the author to show Keatyn's choices and some personal development, this shouldn't ignore the rest of her life (sports, acting, art, roommates, school studies), particularly when she's portrayed as an A student and stellar athlete. I also find it deplorable that not only do the books try to set her up as a role model -- while simultaneously depicting singleminded obsession with sex -- they casually portray a lifestyle of mild drugs, no sleep, indiscriminate flirting (with or without sex) as perfectly acceptable. I think the nature of the characters and story line offer a lot of potential but I certainly could never recommend these books to any teenager.

Boring

It started off interesting but I prefer stronger, interesting and rounded out female leads. I skipped through hopeful the character would grow but no. It's a story about a rich girl used to getting what she wants. She is dangerously impulsive with little adult guidance. The character tries to be to many things. In between you get so much background about what she is wearing. It is helpful but it also comes off like the author wants you to remember her character is rich, privilege and has a quirky fun style. Every chapter is shallow. The storyline also revolves around sex all the time not romance. Reading a disaster romance. You end up not caring about the main character.

I have been hooked on these books from the first page - I feel like I am an Eastbrooke student - even though I am FAR from it! I love the drama, the angst, the characters, the plot - did I mention that I LOVE EVERYTHING?!?!

Keatyn. Dallas and Riley are #lifegoals - Dawson and Aiden are welcome to come hang out at my house anytime...the book will make you laugh out loud (a lot), yell, cry and scream in frustration at times. You will love Gracie and the triplets and you won't want to put this book down!! It's a must read - and be prepared because you will need the next books in the series to make your life feel complete!

My newest favorite series! Don't hesitate to grab these and move them to the top of your TBR list!

Ugh. These books changed my life. Seriously. I was just getting better from COVID where I had almost died, and I was in a very scary situation at home, and these books helped give me the courage I needed to get out and take control of my life and stand on my own. These books are so so good and so well written and you can see yourself in the characters. You can feel the characters emotions, you know how they feel, and you go through their changes with them and grow as they grow. This series is so incredibly powerful and that is why it is so loved by JD’s fans.

It feels weird marking this as a young adult book, although teens may be the intended target. The main character is sex-obsessed. I thought the author had a few interesting plot points that she could have really fleshed out, but they were back burner points to the SEX, SEX, SEX on this young girl's mind. While I was able to get through this "four book" set fairly quickly and stay entertained by those other interesting plot points, I absolutely would not recommend this to anyone other than an adult who enjoys fluff. My other grievance with this set and hence my earlier quotations is the timeline/breakup of the stories. Book 1 ends practically mid conversation and Book 2 picks up the next day, like no time has passed. Books 2-4 take place over a two month period. I guess when you have 10 books planned for a "high school" timeline, this might happen. But it feels like there was no planning. I admit I was a little sad when the 4th book ended because I do have some interest in how things play out, but I am not buying 6 more books to find out.

I really liked the books but could do without so much sex. It really felt like it was written by a horny teen. I kind of get it but at the same time, it made Keatyn very irritating to me that I had to stop reading for awhile. I’m glad I picked it back up because as the books progress it seems like she grows up a bit and I guess that’s what being a teen is all about. So the character is believable, you just may not love her ALL of the time.

It may say that I read this, but in fact, I couldn't get all that far. Honestly, I didn't expect for this book to be wonderful. I expected it to be fun to read and not incredibly heavy. However, there's a point where Keatyn says something pretty homophobic (honestly, I can't remember what it was), and at that point, I had to put the book down. So... don't read this if you're gay, I guess.

Should have read the description carefully

This book set does not resolve the main plot point, it appears this is a TEN book series. The books are definitely written with young adults in mind, but the main character makes a lot of poor decisions, and is not a good role model for the intended audience.

Such a fun and sassy series

This was my first IS series and I have to say I'm hooked. I am older than most readers on here, so at first it was a little too YA for me. But all the characters started growing on me and the story kept getting better and more exciting. I look forward to the rest of the series and other series by her as well!!!!

This book was compelling and made me emotional but in a good way. I was impressed by it and thought it was genuine and realistic with the characters. I'm Team Cush though ;) despite the ending

Good series

A good read about teenage drama. Some parts seem a bit unrealistic, but each book leaves you hanging enough to want to continue to the next.

Cannot say much good things

Although, I like high school/YA romances very much, this was terrible. The story was good, some of the characters even charming and believable, even Keatyn was sometimes a believable heroine due to her insecurities. But that was the all good. Everything else was just plain and not interesting at all. How much can a person read about sixteen, later seventeen year-old girl who has sexual relationships with almost every boy she likes?!?! And the worst is that she could tell one boy that she loves him and after few hours at least dream about other boy. That is just a very slu**y way how to gain self-esteem.

Which surprises me a lot - these series have 12!!!! books. Who reads them? There are so many good authors who write good and enjoyable YA romances, like Siobhan Davis, Erin Watt, Ednah Walters (RIP) or Tijan, why read this twelve-book nightmare?!?!

I respect author due to hard work of writing as I cannot do it properly myself, but this was tooooo much for me.

Erotica

The USA today review leads you to think the book just has sexual tension. These books are closer to erotica than young adult. Definitely 18 and above! I found nothing on the Amazon page nor about this book to suggest how much graphic sex is in these stories.
Now if you actually don't care about the sex scenes, the books are a good read. Really kind of addicting. Because of the higher price than most of my books, I have to wait awhile to buy the rest.
