Qigong Meditation: Small Circulation

Rate this book
ForeWord's Book of the Year Award FINALIST - 2006
Small Circulation, or the Microcosmic Orbit, is the practice of circulating energy, within the human body, Qi, through the two main pathways, or "vessels" of the body. This practice is considered to be the foundation of Internal Elixir Qigong, and was a fundamental step on the path of meditation training in ancient times. Over the centuries, this practice has slowly been lost from many meditation traditions, and its importance has been forgotten. Small Circulation regulates the Qi circulating in the Twelve Primary Qi channels, making it abundant throughout the entire body, which has been known for centuries for promoting health and longevity. This is also the foundation of Muscle/Tendon Changing Qigong (Yi Jin), which deeply conditions and strengthens the body. It is advised that you begin your meditation training by practicing Embryonic Breathing, which will help you to establish your central energy system, and to conserve and store this energy to abundant levels. Building on this foundation, Small Circulation is the next required stage of meditation training. Ultimately, one then practices Grand Circulation Meditation, which circulates Qi everywhere in the body and exchanges it with partners and the surrounding environment. Its purpose is to open the third eye and reunite the human spirit with the spirit of nature. This book contains translation and analysis of many ancient documents used to transmit Small Circulation and Internal Elixir cultivation to future generations, and offers modern scientific explanation for learning and training safely. Though meditation is popular today for relaxation and general health, the ultimate goal of this training, in both Daoism (Taoism) and Buddhism, is spiritual enlightenment.

ANSWERS QUESTIONS ABOUT MEDITATION...ones I never knew to ask.
Qigong Meditation, Small Circulation, by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, brings together research on subjects of Qigong, Meditation, and Human Bioelectricity, theory, scientific evidence, and ancient Chinese thought into one book that you will want to study, contemplate and then re-read a zillion times. This book will help you immensely as you move through your journey of understanding and comprehending the deep, profound ideas, concepts, and scientific facts that are presented to help you better understand “simple” methods of meditation. “Wow” is my best compliment for Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming’s book. He has a phenomenal ability to educate the world about meditation and Internal Elixir Qigong. You need this book if you have any curiosity about what meditating does to our body. You will want to read this book before you read his book on Qigong Meditation, Embryonic Breathing.

I do have a book or two written by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming. Others have reviewed his books and have complained that some of the books have the same material. While this might be true, my view is quite different and very positive. No complaints here. Each time certain topics are presented in one book or the other, essential to understanding topic at hand, it is very clear to me that Dr. Yang makes a huge effort to ensure that the information being presented relates to the main subject being discussed. So, while it may appear the same, it is quite different. The difference ways in which Dr. Yang writes about similar topics helps delivers the reader a new perspective with a different focus.

As always, Grandmaster Yang Jwing Ming exceeds all of my expectations. I always find a new breakthrough idea in his writings that leads me to a new level in my practice. My favorite part of his writings are those parts where he speaks of his personal life, his struggles, and how he overcame them. He never fails to inspire me.
