Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming is one of the world’s leading scholars on the subject of Taijiquan (a.k.a. Tai chi). He has an international reputation and has authored more than twenty books on martial arts and Qigong as well as produced an extensive series of instructional videos. Taijiquan, Classical Yang Style: The Complete Form and Qigong contains the history of Taijiquan and its various schools and styles. Dr. Yang provides results of detailed research including findings in physics, anatomy and physiology. There is an emphasis on the mental and spiritual aspects of practice as well as the physical. Much of his exposition is way too technical for my needs. The book contains detailed descriptions of the movements as well as photographs. There is a glossary of Chinese terms and an index. For me Taijiquan, Classical Yang Style was a further affirmation of the fact that one cannot learn tai chi from a book. I did find, however, it to be useful in that I was able to find a series of Qigong exercises that are useful to me in my tai chi playing.
