Pies & Pages #3

Killer Halloween Pie

Rate this book
It's Halloween, and Bert Hannah is eagerly looking forward to the annual trunk-or-treat being held at her church. She's got a great costume picked out and has plans to hand out mini Jack-O-Lantern Pies. The celebration takes a tragic turn when an accident occurs in the middle of the festivities and a member of the congregation ends up dead.

Bert is the only person who actually witnessed what happened, and the more she thinks about it, the more she wonders if it was merely an accident after all. It seems as though murder has struck again, and Bert is determined to pin down the killer before they can deliver one more Halloween trick.

WARNING: There be snakes in this book! I have to admit this author managed to terrify me with the snakes! I am still in shock! This is an excellent Halloween book, especially if you read it just before going to sleep. The story rolls along pretty fast and literally keeps you on your toes. I can only imagine what I will be dreaming about tonight!

Killer Halloween Pie was a fantastic Halloween (or anytime!) mystery! By the time I finished the book, I made sure my feet were off the ground!

Who would think that a Trunk or Treat festival would make a perfect setting for a murder? When a young woman is bitten by a black mamba & dies, Bert is on the hunt for a diabolical killer.

As always, Bert is kind, practical and making delicious treats. I love her "can do" attitude and her budding romance. Finding out "whodunit" is a scary and fun ride!

Looking forward to Bert's next adventure!

Bert is looking forward to her church’s annual trunk-or-treat. She has created mini Jack-O-Lantern pies to pass out to the children. She has also planned a great costume reminiscent of her childhood. A horrible accident occurs that evening leaving the town worried and a woman dead. Bert is the only witness to what happened and the authorities have a difficult time believing what she saw. Bert only hopes that the murder weapon can be found before the murderer strikes again.

I love this series. The main character is fabulous. The story moves along at a nice pace and keeps the reader engaged. This is a must read series. I can’t wait to read the next book.

It’s Halloween and Bert is baking up pumpkin pies and stocking the pie shop shelves with all types of scary books. Little ghosts and goblins will be trunk or treating at the church and visiting all the shopkeepers. There is one monster on the loose and he’s added murder to the Halloween activities. Can he be stopped before he kills again?

Well written storyline with tight plotting. Keeps you guessing until the end. A very satisfying read.

Trick or Snake

Ok so this book was fantastic. But I do not like snakes and I now know about a really bad one. Scary. So my little black snake who sleeps with my pool towels in the winter is safe I have been told. This book makes me think again. You have got to read this book people. It is amazing.

Bert and Carla always crack me up! They were a real hoot at Halloween and the trunk or treat at church where someone thought it’d be funny or cool to release a real, poisonous snake. Discovering a bunch of lies among the congregation, Bert finally figured out whodunit. The showdown was tense but good—it was great what the person who saved their lives did this time, whack!

This was quite a spooky story!! I couldn't put it down, but it was extra spooky to me thanks to the appearance of a Black Mamba snake!! Will Bert survive?? Or will she be the next victim?? I give this 10 stars for being well-written and drawing me in until the last page!

Another great Bert book.

I love these books. They are so much fun. I just wish for a few recipes. I think Bert is so organized. I love her and the Detective. I think they would make a great couple.

Great story

This was a great one. I totally thought the killer was someone else entirely. I just didn't see it coming when the killer was revealed. I was convinced it was someone else. Great job for keeping me guessing.

Fun read

This was a fun book to read. The characters are believable and we were kept guessing right until the very end. The only disappointment was the recipe for her Jack o lantern pie was not included.

A quick short read

Ideal to fill in a lazy hour on a sunny afternoon. Read as its #3 of Carolyn Q Hunter's series. Confused as to names chosen for main characters...who is male / female?
