Dirilt Kalbini

Rate this book

(Bakara, 269)”

I was sent a copy of this book by the publisher for review! Massive thank you!

“Don't call yourself a Muslim and not represent its teachings. You're not going to get away with that. This faith of ours isn't just a declaration, it has to be a lifestyle choice. It has to be the way we do business; it has to be a way in which we deal with each other.”

I mean, those muslamics who are familiar with Nouman Ali Khan's work know how great his lectures and lessons are. There's always so much benefit one takes away by listening to him. I love and admire his ability to break down the bigger issues, into something one can easily understand and relate to. And then there's the awesome institute of Bayyinah! Seriously, someone take me Texas! #thedream

This book covers various aspects of the Islamic faith that we incorporate or are part of our daily lives and affect it, such as prayers, financial matters, and establishing a community etc, to how to react to political dismays, such as Charlie Hebdo case, dealing with current issues and how that can take a toll on ones faith.

In its essence, it's a book that calls into question the importance of reviving your heart, to not get caught up in life to the point where you forget your spirituality and character-building. To at least form a habit of remembering God in our lives as the busy lifestyle we all may lead, can take us away from the bigger picture. To just having a moment of peace, reflection and a sit-down conversation with God.

The writing felt slightly disruptive at times, though. It felt as if the text was directly written as he spoke, without any extensive editing. It could've been a lot more concise, which would've made the reading process a lot more smoother and the book a lot more accessible. There's a lot of Arabic text in there which could've been done without. But other than that, I know it's a book I'll be referring to constantly!

Todays review is a different one from my usual, which makes it all the more special for me. You probably all know me as the oddball who reviews all the books under the sun with much gusto - whether it be your run of the mill romance novel, high fantasy, cheesy chick lit or a heart shattering contemporary. But behind it all, behind all those books, the ones I read more slowly, take in more carefully, are books about my religion - for first and foremost, I am a muslim woman.

Revive Your Heart is a beautiful, eloquent and beneficial islamic book that looks at religion from the standpoint of the 21st century. It raises questions about faith in the western world, how can we find moments in our ever bustling, ever busy lives - to reflect on what is passing us by so quickly, like sand through our fingers? Finance, the muslim community, leadership, contemporary issues - it has a little bit of everything that needs to be addressed in our current social climate. While this centres around Islam and its teaching, I very much feel anyone of any faith can relate to the topics it discusses, and opens the discussion for wider questions and issues on hand. At the end of the day, the basis for most, if not all religions, is peace and unity - being a good person and leading a good life. This book and the topics it chooses to look at, encompasses all those important points effectively.

Nouman Ali Khan is one of my favourite scholars, and when Kube publishing got in touch with me announcing he was publishing a new book, I leapt *practically* at the chance to read it.

While it is hugely important that we publish islamic books, it is even more important to publish the right type of books - it simply isn't enough to put something out there that isn’t reaching the masses, isn’t moving them in any way; urging, encouraging, inspiring. I’ve read many islamic books that simply bind together facts and followings with nothing else - no guidance, no additions, no nothing. Revive Your Heart features commentary from Nouman Ali Khan, with his brilliant teachings and perspectives - whereby he raises questions, ponders them - and answers them, all within the realm of islam with substantial quotes and hadiths that he doesn’t just slap on, but actually takes the time to speak to you, as the reader, and help you move forward with it. This is something I find extremely beneficial and it’s vital for all types of islamic books - faith is about guidance and understanding - and we need more books like these that do exactly that. Each quote is carefully selected, includes context and also widens the net as to how this can be used in our modern society and what we should hope to take away from it.

I personally found that each chapter of the book is hugely relevant in this day and age and looks at key hurdles we’re facing in our faith, ways to overcome it and use it to strengthen us. There’s personal anecdotes and experiences from the author that have been shared with us to remind us all that this struggle we face, is universal, no matter what level of faith you have, or what stage you’re practicing at, even the most pious of us face dark moments. In the end, ultimately what matters is returning to your faith with optimism in your eyes and repentance in your heart. There’s also an analytical edge to this book that I surprisingly enjoyed, in which arabic words and phrases have been carefully deconstructed and looked at, its meaning assessed and then explained to us what exactly we should take away from this. I am usually wary, when it comes to islamic books and teachings, about an individuals personal perspective about religious matters - but with Nouman Ali Khan, I have no doubts that what he is interpreting is misguided - but rather his reputation and abilities as a scholar backs him up in what he is writing and the easy way in which is explains, without a condescending, patronising tone. It is insightful, sensible and therefore, easy for me to read and take on board.

Kube Publishing have published many other islamic books which proudly adorn my shelves and this is another one to add to the pile - with a simple but gorgeous cover and gems hidden within, I can’t say enough good things about this book and it says enough that this book is currently sold out - SOLD OUT *louder for those in the back*. It will be restocked on 27th of March, so keep your fingers at the ready and visit their website to grab yourself a copy.

In this book, Brother Nouman Ali Khan takes short mentions from the Quran and blows them up to poster size so we can see the scene clearly. You think at first, we couldn’t possibly have such a large scope of understanding of such small mentions in the Quran. But Nouman masterfully narrates how deep the Quran's meanings go. Not only does he expounds on the Arabic and a few stories, he takes these stories that seem to be divorced from our time and context and shows how intimately connected to us in the here and now they really are. This was so eye opening for me. I will be rereading again and again.

Not really a book but a collection of his sermons and previously published essays on Islam and what it means to be a Muslim. It's arranged as a series of reminders to keep foremost in Muslim hearts and minds as they go about their daily lives. I want to stress on the words "keep foremost" as Islam is supposed to be a way of life.

I have to say the book was a really eye-opening and captivating read. What most surprised me was discovering the chasm between the actual teachings of the Koran and the often unflattering image of Islam one gets from the mainstream media. Unfortunately, I have to say, after reading this book, reflecting on its words and the world around me, that the majority of self-professed Muslims in the world (clerics, leaders, politicians and down to ordinary people alike) are not practising the true teachings of Islam, if indeed what Khan painstakingly tries to explain in the book are the true teachings. The degree of disconnect is just amazing and makes one wonder how such a huge dislocation could have happened or been allowed to happen. But then again, I guess the same could be said for almost all other religions. A sad state of affairs, really.

It was good as it goes. It was almost like the transcribed lectures of NAK from youtube, but it was definitely good. What bothered me a little was all the arabic words in english, like it was so hard to pronounce in my mind even, and it was just a bit annoying having to turn back pages to the start and go through the rules to be able to understand and read those words. but all in all, it was worth a read. Thank you for this work.

I liked the reminders that was in this book, but I had a little bit of a hard time reading it because NAK would go into detailed explanations of what each word meant in an ayah. I understand his purpose to have people fully understand what the ayahs were about, but the problem is that when he would go into paragraph after paragraph of explanation of the words, it would make me start to forget the what the big picture was. I think that works better when you're listening to it rather than reading it because he lost me in places. Other than that, it did contain good reminders. I think this book would be better for those who have a better background of Quranic Arabic than I do.

5 ⭐️ for Revive Your Heart: Putting Life in Perspective!

Hoo, boy. Where do I begin?

YES - This book is a compilation/collection of actual lectures by Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan.

YES - You can actually listen to the lectures through Bayyinah TV or YouTube (it’s free there).

YES - It’s literally word by word transcript of the lectures, not even one word taken out or revised (I assumed, since it really felt like ustadh himself is talking to me, it feels so natural).

YES - This book is a MUST READ for all Muslims.

YES - It really does put your life into perspective, it enables you to really understand life in general. Are we really doing it for akhirah? Are we ready for it? Do we really understand that dunya is temporary, and akhirah is really the actual destination where we will live forever? See, putting live in perspective.

And YES - It does revive your heart 😢 One cannot feel not ashamed and disappointed with himself or herself upon reading this. It makes you feel that you have no time to correct yourself, and please Him so that you’ll be blessed with Jannah in the akhirah.

Would I recommend this book to everyone? ABSOLUTELY YES!

Do I regret reading it even though I followed ustadh’s podcast and had listened to his lectures? Nope at all.

Why?

Because listening to lectures and actually reading it serve two different things. While doing active listening, I may not have enough time to take the notes and I need to replay again the lecture if I wanted further understanding.

Meanwhile for reading, everything is spelled out and I can take my time to comprehend the reminders given. I can reread again and again, and do other things like Googling further information and jot down notes.

Or maybe I’m just the person who learns better through reading 😅 (Hence the reason why I don’t do audiobooks).

Other than that, as I mentioned in my reading activity, I love the depth and exploration of every topic discussed. It’s very contemporary, and really suits to our current modern situation. The example given is realistic, and not some idealistic situation where it’s almost impossible to achieve. You can easily relate to the stories given, even though it was based from the Quran, as Ustadh can relate his example to what we are facing today.

It is also a very easy read. A simple and straightforward English, so even for non native speaker can understand the reminders with ease. Like me 😊

Last but not least, I truly recommend this book to all Muslims out there.

Kitap beş konu başlığı altında şekilleniyor.
1)Allah'a Dua İle Bağlanmak

I got excited when I knew that Nouman Ali Khan had written a book, so I bought it.
For a while I've been watching Nouman Ali Khan's lectures on YouTube. I like the way he focuses on the fundamentals, commandments derived from the Quran. Because he explains the context behind their revelations while also drawing parallels to our lives.

This book covers various aspects of the Islamic faith that are part of our daily lives, such as prayers, financial issues, terrorists acting in the name of Islam, the disconnection and connection with Allah etc. And it reminds us how we should nurture our heart so it’s ready for the hereafter. All in all, a very good book!

What a treasure this book is! A few good things about this book:
- It is extremely easy to read, and feels like you are listening to NAK directly
- It does not just give you feel-good statements about yourself but talks about the practical steps you can take to become a better Muslim
- It explains some Quran to you in a very contemporary manner, connecting the verses of Allah to the life you are living today.
- It contains subjects like dua, being a community, financial dealings and the sheer importance of time
I recommend this book to all my friends. It really does put your life in perspective and gives solace and guidance to our troubled/struggling souls.

Well timed reminder for myself right now. Felt like my questions and thoughts from my anxiety has been answered here. I'm still anxious, but hopefully I can gear it towards better purpose.

Even without going through these specific lectures, I can imagine being in them while reading this (his voice and intonation is seared in my brain haha). This means that if you've watched any of them, you might find there's no need for a reread of the book as it's technically a transcription of said lectures (however I don't remember any of those videos so the book served its purpose of being a reminder to me.) This also means that some parts of the talk are a repetition of what he had said earlier in the chapter - obviously other than to highlight a few key points, its also because with verbal lectures you gotta have to do that in order to not led astray from the topic.

Overall, recommended for well needed reminder. Will definitely continue to take notes before I return the book to the owner so I can read again in the future.

Kube Publishing sent me this book to read in Ramadhan and I am so very grateful. It is full of words of wisdom and reminders on how to stay spirtually centred. Books like these are essential for your wellbeing, in my humble opinion anyway. I don't think you have to be religious to appreciate them.

I confess, I love the author. He is the founder of an institute dedicated to Arabic and Qur'anic studied and also a strong orator. His words hit home and you sit there nodding your head in agreement when you listen to him speak. I've tabbed away in the book so here's one I'll share with you: "So you and I have to learn - and this is something we easily forget - to be grateful for what we do have, and not to focus our attention so much on what we don't have." Bang on point for Ramadhan I think, and for life in general.

An inspiring piece! I am always a fan of NAK Quran language exploration. Through his point of view I could see examples of Quran verse depicting the importance of striving in this world for the final destination, which is Akhirah. I find this very powerful and life changing. How as a Muslim with the right aim in life, the worldly world is not wasted at all. How we are belong and longing for Jannah, as this world is just a stop by for our permanent world in Akhirah later.

Love this! Feels like he took a magnifying glass and hover it over a few ayats from Quran and made my perspective grew wider. He explains the important words deeper through linguistic approach and makes it clearer to grab the context of each explanation.

Super fast and easy read as the chapters are basically transcriptions of his lectures. But they are profound and amazing all the same.

I received this book from Kube Publishing a week ago.
When I knew that Nouman was publishing a new book I got very excited. As a lot of you know, his khutbas always provide a lot of information and food for thought. This feels like a compilation of some khutbas (13 chapters) and it's a really easy read yet very informative. I could not put it down since the minute I got it.

The book is structured in 5 parts that examine du'a, community, finance, some contemporary issues and thoughts on the akhira.

It does help you put your life in perspective. I feel like for a lot of us, young muslims specially in the West, it is easy to be distracted with our daily lives and forget about investing in our spiritual knowledge and become better citizens / muslims. This is what I felt this book helped me with. I think anyone over 16 should read this book at least once.
Nouman speaks about different Ayas of the Quran and explains them, not only translating them but giving historical context and clarifying the linguistics so that we can understand what each verse is saying and how it can help us.

Anyway, I need more books like this so I hope Nouman and the editor will put together more khutbas and publish more books.

Okay my mind is all over the place, if you have any questions let me know byeeee.
