Blackstone Mountain #0.5

The Last Blackstone Dragon

Rate this book
This is a short novella that serves as a prequel to the Blackstone Mountain series.

Brooding dragon shifter + feisty human + a marriage of convenience = sexy shifter action, hot romantic moments, and a HEA to satisfy you!

Henry “Hank” Lennox was the last of his family of dragon shifters, and heir to the crumbling Blackstone empire. In order to protect his people and his legacy, he decides on the unthinkable: buy himself a wife to produce the next generation and secure the future of his family. It was a purely business transaction, so he never thought the bride he meets on his wedding day could also be his mate.

Riva Sinclair would do anything to save her father and their family business, even going into an arranged marriage with a dragon shifter. It was supposed to be a marriage of convenience, a contract that stated she was bought and paid for. Still, she never expected to be so attracted to her husband, and the sky-high walls she put up to protect her heart are starting to crumble.

The same circumstances that brought to them together are about to tear them apart. Can they learn to trust each other or will their pasts destroy the fragile feelings that are only starting to bloom?

The Last Blackstone Dragon is a paranormal dragon shifter novella. It has explicit romantic love scenes, naughty language, and shifter suspense action with guaranteed HEA (happy ever after) and no cliffhangers!

Full story. Nice plot. Not rushed, (but not deep either) and somewhat likeable characters. Wasn’t overly thrilled.
It started out good, but then went a tad downhill from there.

Since it’s a novella, it’s short, but this was an okay novella.
It’s a nice introduction to the world, the author and the writing.

The trouble I always seem to have with novellas is that they are always lacking depth. It’s hard. Especially when you don’t really have that many pages to build a solid story on.
I think the author did a good job though on this one. (Never gonna be a favorite though).

It also wasn’t hard to figure out who the bad guy was, and the story followed the storyline (as expected), so no twisting in the seat to figure out what happened or what happens NEXT. You knew. Well at least I did. But then again I read a lot😂 Guess we all do here.

Anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

It was sweet. It was decent and it has a mining dragon. When I think about it- that is actually a first😂

Will I recommend: Hmm. Probably not- it wasn’t epic. But it certainly wasn’t a bad book. I am probably not going to continue the series.

It was very matter of fact. I felt no connection to any of the characters and no chemistry. For me there is an amount of detail that is just right about characters, situations, backgrounds relationships that you need to form a bond with a story. A lot of the time authors can go overboard which is also not good but I didn’t feel anything with this story. Terming it a shifter book also doesn’t feel appropriate as there was a lack of detail about the dragons and the shifting. All that was mentioned is Hank shifted twice to get the black stone and once to fly. It also wasn’t steamy at all.

I love the story of Hank & Riva- a well rounded start for the series- great characters- old style “arranged marriage” story with a twist! Characters are great, a bit of drama - add great dialogue & sexy love scenes and you have s winner!!

This was a good start to the series but a little too instant for me. The characters were good and I am left with a little wanting for the next book. It will be interesting to see what struggle are to await the new family and how the last dragon is in danger.

My rating: 4/5 stars!

A surprisingly great novella! (Almost wished it was longer).

I had no expectations going into it and it had me curious in starting the series (this was free on Amazon, lol saw the cover and hey, I figured why not?!). I haven't read much "shifter" type books before but this one totally had me hooked.

There was intrigue, a bit of mystery with certain characters' past and funny scenes and one-liners that totally caught me by surprise -- in a good way!

Nice quick read. I recommend for those who like shifter books, fantasy fiction, romance and books about smexy dragons you find their soul "mates"! ;P

Note: It does contain mature content so I say this is definitely NOT for readers under age! Sorry..wait a few or so years.

An exciting new dragon series. He wants an heir so he needs a wife. Only a dragon would think he can buy a wife. But Riva wants to save her father’s business and agreeing to a dragon may be the only thing. If they could now only trust each other things would be so much easier. Fun story that will keep you held until the last page. The hot scenes help with that too.

Riva thought she was the one who was trapped, but that was far from the truth. He would have no other woman, no other mate than her, and she hated him. He couldn't stop her from leaving, not if that was what she wanted. He was trapped, yearning for a mate who would never give herself to him fully.

This was a great shifter novella that fit in my vacation reading schedule perfectly. It's a shifter romance based on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, which is one of my favorite tropes. Hank has just inherited the family business of mining blackstone as his older brother recently died in a car accident. Riva is visiting her father when she learns that her ex-boyfriend has completely screwed over her father's company. Hank is in need of a bride in order to carry on his family name, so he offers to cover Riva's father's debts in exchange for an heir to the Lennox family. Riva agrees in her father's name, but this marriage of convenience is further complicated when Riva ends up being Hank's fated mate and she wants nothing to do with him.

Even though this is a novella, there is no insta-love between Hank and Riva, as Riva despises Hank for using her solely to produce an heir. Hank finds himself in a precarious position as he previously wanted to be free of Riva after she gave him an heir, but now cannot imagine his life without her. Their journey to loving each other was filled with angst and plenty of misunderstandings as both Hank and Riva have been cheated in the past, but ultimately they prove they are willing to fight for their love. I'd recommend this novella to readers who enjoy angst and don't mind OM/OW drama in their shifter books. I will definitely be continuing on in this series!

Not really a fan of the arranged marriage trope, but it was a decent story. The dragon part especially I found interesting and I would have loved to get to know a little more about the world and the issues shifters run into on a regular basis.

Well.... I actually liked the set up: brooding dragon shifter + feisty human + a marriage of convenience = sexy shifter action, hot romantic moments, and a HEA to satisfy you!... and this was what was delivered with this novella. So, this could have been the beginning of an interesting series... but unfortunately, for me, it was not. 😕
Literally everything in this story was just 'too perfect'; too predictable, too standard and too easy. No surprises, no twists and turns, everything neatly 'by the book'. Simply a cheap 'dime a dozen' story.
After reading Last Blackstone Dragon (which fortunately was free on Amazon), I have no desire to start the first nor any of the other books in this series.

{Een 'boeketreeksje'... en geen hele goeie. Voorspelbare voorzetjes, moeiteloos scoren! Dertien-in-een-dozijn verhaal.}

A bit short

While this was marketed as a novella, it rushed to pack a little too much in, in its short pages. This led to a bit of a clipped and disjointed feel. The character of Hank was developed well but Riva left something to be desired. There were also several awkward wording choices.
Overall good premise and enjoyable plot line, just needs a lot of smoothing and maybe have some scenes clipped out to expand the rest.

***I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book***

I've read a number of Ms. Montgomery's books and she never fails to tell a great story. The book is a quick and easy read that is very entertaining. The book has not one but various shifters in it with Henry Lennox is a dragon shifter and the other primary character is Riva Sinclair a human.

Henry Lennox the last of his line knows that he must act to protect his bloodline and his business. Riva Sinclair's father's business is ruined by her thieving and missing fiance. Riva's desperate and Henry's too busy to bother with romance and he needs an heir. A marriage of convenience is born and the start of drama plus feelings that weren't part of the deal.

What impact their marriage on themselves and those around them? What challenges will they face from outside forces? How are they going to handle the feelings they're not supposed to have for each other? What action and adventures are the couple going to have to handle? This new series is off to a great start with this book which makes me hate any delay in getting my hands on the next book in the series. I know you'll laugh and smile throughout the book so get your copy today!

The Last Blackstone Dragon's synopsis and high viewer reviews tempted me to download this free read on Kindle. Only one word can describe this read for me. Disappointing.

The story is mundane, pretty silly, not written well, and needs editing. The tone of the story is juvenile and wordy. Hank and Riva, like their names, have no chemistry, and the tale has no romantic tension, suspense, or action.

In general, I liked the idea of the story, but the way it is written left much to be desired. I can't recommend this one, but if you must, proceed with caution.

On my Were Scale of Hotness, 2.5 stars.

I liked it, would have been nice to be a little longer but considering it was a short story alot happened and kept me glued, the only reason i gave a 3 star is it was short and sweet, there was nothing wrong with it but i reserve my 4 and 5 stars for books that keep my up all night this was only a few hours.

Great intro to new series

This story is a short read but packed in a lot of back story and history to lay ground work for the series. I still think you could read the first, when it releases and not be lost (no I haven't read it... yet), but it is great Alicia gave us this. We meet Hank and Riva who are unlikely people to win at the game of love.
Hank is the CEO and heir to the Blackstone empire. He is broody, grumpy, and I felt miserable. He is going through the motions to keep his family empire alive, but it is costing him so much in return. Knowing he needs an heir to take over, he finds a way to marry for convenience. Little does he know that the marriage will be anything but convenient.
Riva comes home to have her world turned upside down. She doesn't know what to do but plans to do the only thing she can; save her family. Deciding her own fate, she walks in blind to a marriage to save her father and his legacy. What she doesn't plan on is feelings to get in the way.
The conflict in this story was perfect in my opinion to solidify the love and reality of the marriage. It crescendos and peaks delivering an ending that warms your heart.
I found this story moved quickly along the timeline. What I liked about it was while quick-moving, I wasn't lost and had my questions answered. While she did end the story beautifully, Alicia left me wanting more and dropped so many delicious bread crumbs for me to follow with this new series.

Hank is the last dragon shifter in his family ever since his brother died. He's trying to keep his company above ground and running but things are not looking good. In order to find a mate, have kids and carry on his family legacy, Hank decides to make a marriage contract with another family but the woman he signs the contract with has a few demands of her own. Her father's company is in trouble and they need the money from this marriage contract to keep the company.

Hank and Riva don't meet until they are at the alter because this is a business transaction, nothing more. Things suddenly change when Hank realizes that Riva is his mate and they are both attracted to each other. Hank doesn't know how to act around her and comes off rude which really irritates Riva and she lets him know it. I loved that she wasn't a pushover and held her own with him.

There was a person who was backstabbing behind the scenes and trying to make problems for Hank and Riva right from the very start. I had a feeling I knew who the bad guy was and I was right but I didn't know to what extent they had made some really bad choices to get their way. It was nice to see them get what they deserved. The ending was great as we got to see what their future looked like and who would be in the next book. I had a good time with this novella.

providing an honest review after receiving a complementary copy from the author via Book Funnel

So this book had some good points and some bad points.

Good
- epilogue
- I like shifter being known in the world and different kinds of shifters being friend
- world felt how I would think it would be if shifter were real
- straight forward plot with expected results
- likable characters

Bad
- why didn't the sister in law ever straight out tell the Hank that she wanted him?
- why didn't they ask the sister in law to move out?
- why didn't Riva take over control of the staff when she got there?
- this book finished up but on the last two pages they find a kid covered in blood and then it stops with out knowing what happens. Is this an attempt at a cliff hanger? Does the next book follow straight on from there? there did not really feel like more to the main characters stories. I dont think this should have been put in right at the end of the story, especially with no lead up to anything like this anywhere in the story. This should have been the start or another book, it felt like a confusing after thought chucked in perhaps in hope to get readers to get the next book, when the quality of the writing should have encouraged seeking out other works.

I voluntarily received an ARC of this book to review.
In this series shifters are out of the closet and people are the most afraid of Dragon shifters. With anti shifter groups spreading false rumours about them there are few Dragon shifters left.
With the death of his father and brother, Hank has taken over the Lennox corporation and it is in a bad way. Hank is a good man with a kind heart who is under a lot of pressure to pull the business out of the red, the whole town of Blackstone counts on the Lennox corporation to survive. Hank has always believed that Dragon shifters don't have mates but marry for power but when he meets Riva for the first time on their wedding day there is an instant attraction.
Riva loves her father's company and it was her dream to work along side him but her father's company is in trouble and there is only one way to save it, Marrying a Dragon shifter she has never met and giving him an heir. Their relationship starts off Rocky but they were made for each other.
The sneak peek of The Blackstone Dragon Heir leaves me wanting more and I can't wait to read it.

The Last Blackstone Dragon is a brilliant book and the story line was perfect. The characters really bring the story to life and it really sucked me in right from the beginning. Alicia Montgomery has written another fabulous book. I absolutely love her shifter books and I would highly recommend her books to anyone as Alicia has a wonderful way of bringing her books to life.

I really enjoyed this story! It was a great introduction into the world of Blackstone. I really enjoyed the characters Hank and Riva. Riva has just found out that her boyfriend has cheated her family company and just about pushed them to ruin when Hank steps in and offers a deal to her father, her hand in marriage for fixing the debt and reputation issue. Hank is the last of his family and as a dragon shifter knows that unless he has an heir the town will be in trouble. Only a dragon can mine Blackstone Mountain and so he needs to mate with a human in order to up the odds of him having a dragon shifter child. He makes the deal but doesn't expect her to be his mate. I loved the setup of this story and the way that things played out. There are quite a few miscommunication issues but with the situation that they had found themselves in they made sense and didn't seem overdone. I liked the action and intrigue that we got and there were a couple of little twists as well. Overall, I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the rest of the series.

Great beginning to a series

Hank is the last Lennox dragon shifter left after his brother died six months ago. He is now in charge of Lennox Corp. They mine blackstone and is in charge of keeping the town of Blackstone running. The stones can only be mines by using dragon fire to melt the material holding it in the mines. So Hank knows that he has to have an heir.
Riva comes home from college to find out that her fiance has been caught bribing city officials in her hometown which is close to Blackstone. He was also associated with the mob and other crime lords. The FBI is searching for him. Since he was working for her father's construction company, they are not getting anymore jobs because people don't trust them now.
Hank offered to help Riva's family company if she agrees to marry him and give him an heir.
This is quite an interesting story with a few twists and betrayals layered in. I will definitely be reading the next book. I recommend this book completely.

The Last Blackstone Dragon by Alicia Montgomery 5 Stars

I Loved this book. Hank and Riva's story is too cool.

Riva agrees to become Hanks wife to save her dad's company. Ooh lala, but she doesn't expect to fall for the sexy Dragon.
Hank wants a wife to pass on the Lennox Corp his family built, he feels his only option is to make a deal with Thomas Sinclair for his daughters hand in marriage. He gets a wife and Sinclair saves his company, win win right, uh not. lol.

Sparks fly between the two of them, some in anger and some in lust. Together they discover more than meets the eye and rumors will fly, but together they will build a story that is fun to read.
Great feel good story with lots of passion.

Iread and reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book by it's author for my own pleasure.

You would do anything for your family. Riva knows that she has no choice but to marry a complete stranger as he is the only one that can save the family business. But the stranger is a dragon who needs a heir and that is all that he needs. Hank will do whatever it takes to have a heir as he is the last of his line on the whole town depends on his legacy. He did not realize that she would be his mate and now he can't seem to do anything right. He knows that he can't allow her to leave but there is someone that will do whateve it takes to tear them apart. Can Hank show Riva that he wants her for who she is and that he wants them to have a future? Riva knows that she can't stay as everything is a mess but she knows that it is going to hurt them both but she has no choice. Can they find a way to be happy together and put the killer where they belong? A good solid read.

Riva Sinclair, came home to visit her father at his company and found her boyfriend had disappeared and the company was in trouble with the FBI and failing thanks to Daniel's unethical and illegal deals with the mob.

Henry “Hank” Lennox the last of his kind of dragon shifters makes a proposition to Riva's father and she accepts. She finds Hank to be an honorable man (and dragon sifter) working hard to protect the community his family established as a safe place for all shiters to come and live in harmony. Riva wants nothing more than to help The Last Blackstone Dragon produce heirs to carry on the mining corporation, the town and community that his family has established. Working together as mates, they find their HEA in this great shifter romance.

The ending was a cliffhanger, which I find as the only problem with the story.
