Danger is lurking in the shadows …watching…waiting.
Tensions are high and chaos ensues as Em and her family seem to have more questions than answers when it comes to life, love, and their future. The children are exhibiting unheard of traits and it’s clear that no one can be trusted to keep their family’s secrets. Drastic measures must be taken to safeguard their way of life, but the children have been keeping some secrets of their own.
This is one of those series that you read and it reminds you why you started reading books in the first place. It's an escape, a journey, and allows you to do something you can't do in the real world. The character development by this author is very good, there is none of this generalized blah blob (you know what I mean characters that are either good or bad with no shades of grey) effect. These characters are realistic we have Bo with his inability to verbalize or show his feelings (other than jealousy that one he shows well), we have Angelous (my favorite character) with his peculiar view of life (I loved loved loved how he teases Bo over his affection for Em), and then we have Em who is new to vampire life (well 14 years new) and is still discovering herself, dealing with Bo's hot n cold attitude towards her, and like most women extremely busy. Our heroes are flawed in this series they each have their own strengths and weaknesses just like real people. and the side characters are important which is something that sets a great book apart from a weak one.
another thing this book had going for it was the plot. Like other great series this book didn't go in the direction I thought it would (which is odd because I read A LOT). When I saw the title I figured the whole book would be focused on Em, and her unique gift. Then BAM went in another direction I didn't see coming and none of the happenings of the book were predictable. Being a good writer is a bit like being a magician you have to get the readers focused over here and then surprise them with something from the other side.
A few more words about this book. As far as how this book flows, it was impeccable. there was no choppy reading or hard to understand parts. this is a book you can fall into and not even realize you are on the last page. the characters are individuals, the plot is well thought out and surprising, and the imagery and writing style was out of this world. Also can I just say how awesome it was to see so much of my favorite character??? I would highly recommend this book to Anne Rice fans.
Amazing story that I couldn't put down. I little bit of love, action and mystery. Em is a beautiful character and I loved watching her character evolve. I would recommend this to all varieties of readers.
