Rate this book
From Mama Bear’s claws to the hangman’s noose… Will Goldilocks ever get her happy ending?

Dora is the girl with golden locks who craves adventure. Not too little. Not too much. She likes it just right. At this moment she’s got too much—and that means trouble.

After escaping a furious bear shapeshifter, she accidentally gains possession of a mysterious, magical amulet. And no matter what she does to get rid of it, the amulet always comes back.

Now she’s being targeted by the House of Corrections’ big bad wolves.

With bloodthirsty magical creatures hunting her across land and Cursed Sea, she must find refuge in an underworld of untrustworthy characters. Because if she fails, she’ll lose both her freedom and her life.

Dora is a novelette in the Perrault Chronicles by Cordelia Castel. The story is told in third-person and is from Dora's point-of-view. The story takes place sometime before the Academy (the second book in the Perault Chronicles) but because of character building throughout the series, I would wait to read it until after The Ogres.

We first met Dora in The Academy where she became friends with Rilla. This is her story. Within we find out where Dora came from, how she received her scars, met Long Don Cipriano, and ended up at the Academy.

This story adds another intricate layer to the world of the Perault Chronicles giving us a look into the life of a human living in the Enchanted Realm. Dora's background is not a happy one, but even with everything she has been through her spirit has persevered.

Dora is a nice change from the original Goldilocks. She likes adventure just right, not too much or little. Love all the books in the series.

My favorite novelette in the Perrault Chronicles to date, "Dora" by Cordelia Castel, standouts as action packed series that re-tells many famous fairytales. "Dora" focuses on the much loved fairytale Goldilocks and The Three Bears, this time with a strong female lead character who takes full charge of her life and isn't willing to easily back down as a victim. With twists and turns from the front page, "Dora" will have you hooked from the start.

"Dora" by Cordelia Castel, easily stand outs as a 5-star addition to the series for many reasons including:
*Creativity and originality is the strength of the Perrault Chronicles, with fairytales, magic and fantasies being written in a very different way, far beyond expectations. "Dora" took the story into a much unexpected surprise which worked well.
*"Dora", the lead character, is portrayed warts and all! The life she has had to take on to help pay her father and his new family, something even she detests, shows she is loyal to her family, doing anything to help them. She also knows her place in society and doesn't pretend to be who she is not, which makes her all the more likable. With her down-to-earth personality and ability to take on anything she faces, Dora is an easy character to invoke an interest in her outcome.
*The action starts from the first chapter, with her horrible night with the the married with child bear-shifter, turns her life inside out, forced to be on the run. The adventure that takes her from her family, to unknown lands, to new partners and The Academy, is exciting and a story hard to put down.
*Like the rest of the series, Dora, is the complete package. A front cover that showcases the focus of the story, here "Dora", in a standout cover, to a story that is captivates and enthralls, with a strong unwavering lead character, and action until the very end.

If you haven't read any of the "Perrault Chronicles" then you are definitely missing out. Its a series for all to enjoy, and I recommend "Dora" as a MUST read for anyone who loves the world of fairytales, fantasy and magic. It can be read as a standalone, but best as part of the series, so you don't miss out on any of the action.

I voluntarily reviewed this book from receiving this in advance.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This was a short and telling story of Dora who we have met throughout Cendrilla’s story. Ok this story we learn how Dora came to be in the Academy and met Rilla. We learned her back story and how she met the “honorable” Don :)
In my opinion she is both naive and strong in this story. Her family all but abandoned her making her do things she shouldn’t be doing.... But she learned how to stand up for herself... get away from that world and start to stand up for herself. There is one part of this story I want to know more about. That amulet..... hmmmm I’m curious...
A great read as usual. This author is nothing but amazing as usually in her storytelling, characters descriptions and world building. I’ve gobbled up all of these books that have correlated to this series and I will continue to do so because Cordelia never fails to surpass my every expectation!!!

I loved this Perault Chronicles novelette that told the story of Dora, who we encountered when Cendrilla went to the Academy in book 2 of the series. With its origins in the Three Bears fairytale, as well as tales of highwaymen such as Dick Turpin, it's an engaging short read that really brings to life the characters of Dora and Sipps in a bit more 3D way. I'd definitely recommend it to all Perault Chronicles lovers.

A very interesting retelling of the old Goldilocks and the Three Bears tale. Dora (Goldilocks) is loyal yet naive., charming yet fiery. I hope that Cordelia Castel sees fit to continue the story in future books. I loved it. I hope that you do as well.

I received this book as an ARC; however, the review is my honest opinion.

Poor Dora...my heart breaks for her. As part of the Perrault stories and Rilla's friend Dora has her own tale. First her father is a disappointment...then her meeting with Long Don! Makes me mad. She's a strong woman and I know from other books she really comes into her self.

An imaginative retelling of Goldilocks

A well-written side story of the Perrault Chronicles, giving the background on Dora's story and how she came to the Academy. An imaginative retelling of Goldilocks and the three bears fairy tale, this story focuses Dora's hard life, raising issues of discrimination and exploitation. A bit darker comparing to the previous books and with more mature themes, but not inappropriate for young readers. I'd definitely let my daughter read it.
