Aspen “Blade” Carlisle is the last of his Delta Force team to find love…and he’s pretty bummed about that fact. Which might explain why he finds himself chatting up a telemarketer as if she’s a long-lost friend. But Wendy is surprisingly easy to talk to, so when they go from occasional calls during her work, to nightly conversations on their cells, it somehow feels right. So right, Blade eventually convinces the funny, sweet woman to meet him in person.
When their first face-to-face meeting gets high-jacked, Wendy Tucker is sure she and Aspen made a big mistake in taking their relationship to the next level. But the man is nothing if not persistent. Before long, Wendy’s allowing the handsome soldier to spend more time with her and Jack, the teen brother she’s raising, than anyone she’s ever dated. Though she knows there are limits to how close she can get to Aspen, no matter how much she likes him. Limits carefully constructed to protect Wendy and Jack from a past they’ve been running from for years.
But dating Blade means having an entire team of Deltas at her back. Which may come in handy not just with Wendy’s past…but also when her brother faces a current threat.
**Rescuing Wendy is the 8th book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
This is such a sweet story and a little different from Stoker’s other stories. It still focuses on one main couple, Wendy and Blade, and it shares tidbits from the rest of the Delta family, letting us catch up on news from them as well as giving us some hints of things to come but this one does not focus on the ‘damsel in distress’ in the true sense of the word. But there is conflict, plenty of suspense, emotions, family, turmoil, and a sweet romance that will leave you wanting more. I was fascinated with Blaze from his appearance in other books and have been looking forward to his story and his happy ending. Wendy, I was on the fence about in the beginning but I warmed up to her rather quickly the more I learned about her background and what she was hiding/running from. She and her brother have been through a lot and I liked the fact that they looked out for each other and were a strong family unit who relied and depended on each other. I also enjoyed Blade and the other Delta’s interaction with her brother and helping him out in his time of need. I love how they all banded together in battle and at home to be there for each other and help out. This book also reveals a shocking secret, that those who have read the past books in the series know Stoker has been hinting at before, and it causes a huge rift in the group as a whole and shatters their trust. A tense situation of danger helps to re-establish some of their bonds but it will take more than working together in a dangerous situation to repair the damage done. I am hopeful for a positive outcome in the final installment of the series, Rescuing Mary. I have been looking forward to Mary and Truck’s story and I know it will be a doozy.
a wise woman told me to stay clear of this because I have always auto purchased everything in these series by this author but she didnt use to add that kind of stuff to her book.
This may be a bit sweeter than the other stories but I did enjoy it except for the prostitute that the hero mistakenly thought was the heroine when he went to meet her the first night. He finally realized it but the woman he was supposed to meet had already left when she saw him with the hooker.
Wendy, our heroine, had problems which made her weak and without self confidence. She was okay and I liked her but didn't love her.
Aspen was a great hero and loved Wendy deeply. He was only an A$$ twice, the night he met her with the mistaken identity whore and when he broke up with her briefly.
I was also greatly disappointed in Mary and Truck and they ended up causing a huge rift between themselves and the rest of the team. They all stopped being friends because many were taking sides. It was so bad that their commander was considering breaking their group apart because there were such hurt feelings that it was affecting their jobs and safety. That was a real disappointment for me. I shouldn't have been shocked because I never cared for Mary anyway. Just didn't like her character.
I doubt very much if I will read Mary's and Truck's story. Mary has been such a Bit#h that I just don't care about her anymore.
And we have another winner on our hands! Not that anyone is surprised, least of all me, since this is my favorite of all the author’s series, but things go a little...differently in this one than the norm. There’s still all the swoons, melting and heart pumping suspense, but there was a different feel with this one that I really liked. I know I’m being vague right out of the chute, but…
Anyways, on to Blade aka Aspen and Wendy. I loved Blade. He’s open, honest ~ even if it doesn’t always help his cause ~ and is simply an honorable guy. He has his moments, like anyone else, but even when he goes a little sideways, he’s still a good man. Wendy. I loved her, I did. She’s sweet, compassionate and has gentle soul. Add on the fact that she’s raised her brother on her own for a decade and you have a pretty amazing person on your hands. She has her...issues, and though they drove me nuts, I understood where she was coming from.
I loved the way Blade and Wendy first connect and how it went from a telemarketing call to them meeting and then more. There was an ease to their interactions and it made it easy to see how good they could be for each other. There was an underlying issue that was always between them and as things progressed and they became more, it because a huge wall and I hate how that wall was finally toppled, but I’m not necessarily mad at either of them for it. I know, I know: vague and verbal vomity, but you really should expect it from me by now. In the end though, it was a necessary evil and I loved the path it set them on in the end.
As with all of the authors books, she takes on issues that have become quite prevalent in our society and the ones that she touches on here will be triggers for some, but they are dealt with honestly and respectfully. There is a bit of a twist in this one that I didn’t see coming, but I liked it. It was something that has been brewing for awhile and it was interesting to see how all the parties involved dealt with it. Since this is my favorite series, hanging with the Delta Force guys and their women is always fun, I loved Jackson and of course Annie is always makes me smile, and to say I’m excited that Truck and Mary’s book is next is an understatement. I’ve been looking forward to them ever since they met in Rescuing Rayne and it looks like it’s gonna be hell of a ride!
I really wanted to enjoy this book. This author is one of my favorites, however, I could not get past the way that the hero talked about women. Even if the woman who interrupted the initial meeting between the two characters was in the wrong, calling her a whore, bitch, and other names was inappropriate. Dragging his fingers over her breast was also terrible. I could not finish the book, so I skimmed through it and the difficult moments was when the hero gets mad at the heroine for good reason, then says that she is no better than the whore that tried to scam him. This is usually not the kind of thing that she writes, so it really shocked me. I'm very disappointed, and unfortunately, if this is a trend that is going to continue in her work, I don't know that I can read her anymore. Which is really sad as she is someone that I auto-by.
Who doesn't like HOT ALPHA MALES? Who isn't happy when the heroine is Kick @SS?? Susan Stoker does a fabulous job with both of these in her books and for me, Rescuing Wendy does it BEST.
Aspen 'Blade' Carlisle is the last single guy of his Delta Force team and he's not happy about that. But he's not looking for just any type of relationship. He wants what his friends have. Strong women who support and love their men. Unfortunately, because of these thoughts, he's having little to no luck with his search. The only person he has found interesting recently is the telemarketer who has called to sell him life insurance.
Wendy Tucker is living day to day. Working 2 jobs and raising her younger brother hasn't really left time for relationships. And to be honest she hasn't found a guy who wouldn't run scared because of her situation. Until one night she calls and talks to Aspen Carlise. After multitudes of hang-ups and weird calls, Wendy is happy to finally get s 'normal call' and chats away with Aspen. Before they know it, occasional calls have become nightly and Aspen is wanting to meet this funny sweet woman in person.
Susan Stoker yet again writes an amazing book with romance, action, suspense, and humor. From the first book to this book you get to know these amazing men and the women they fall in love with. Ms. Stoker uses everyday situations to make her books more real and help the reader connect with the characters. And that connection lasts and grows with each and every book. BRAVO Ms. Stoker for continually producing more and more wonderful HEA books about ALPHA men & the STRONG women they love but keeping them REAL and INTERESTING. If you've never picked up a book by Susan Stoker you are MISSING OUT. She is a PHENOMENAL WRITER with FANTASTIC BOOKS. I guarantee, read one and you'll be hooked! I know I was!
Not one of my favorites of Susan Stoker. This story just felt a bit flat. The writing stye was good, the couple was all right. There was something missing.
I didn’t like the POV of Jackson and how he was hot for his girlfriend and how they were making out. He’s 17, she’s 14/15? It was a bit strange, not sexy at all. Didn’t want to read about it. He’s older than he tells people. And no one is bothered by it. And it was creepy how Wendy defended his relationship with his girlfriend (she doesn’t know his real age) and how she thinks they are perfect together even with the age difference => creepy.
The Truck/Mary drama was way over the top. Kindergarten level. And Rayne needs to chill out. And a mass wedding. Well, so not my thing. But well.
3 stars from me. Wendy was a bit too insecure, putting herself down, living in fear. And the Jackson/Jenny couple creeped me out. And the bullies were, well meh.
Chris McGranitt - per RFS . Bonsoir, mes amies! No, non sono impazzita, ma forse noi ragazze di RFS sì, dato che non avendo trovato il libro disponibile in italiano siamo state abbastanza folli da volerlo leggere in francese. Curiose? Proseguite con la lettura, bellissime fenici.
Donc l’histoire… scheeeerzo!
This is such a sweet story and a little different from Stoker’s other stories. *I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I was given this book in turn for an honest review.
One telemarketing call can change everything, so it seems. Blade is desperate to see the woman behind the voice; however, Wendy is scared to break the magic. Can Wendy be open and honest with Blade, or will her past change everything?
Susan Stoker has written a seriously brilliant story, that although it gives the heroine and hero a different spin compared to many of her other books, it isn’t lacking action, suspense, or romance; it does however, have a huge shock factor, that even shocked me. This story builds up a lot of anticipation to the final book in the series Rescuing Mary, although on some level this book can still be read as a standalone.
I love the angle this story takes with Blade and Wendy’s story, it was a refreshing change and it didn’t take away from Susan Stoker's unique writing style. She brings the characters to life, almost as if you are watching their story unfold on screen rather than on the pages.
Blade was a strong, caring, and patient man. He never pushed Wendy and he was always open about his feelings and true intentions.
Wendy was a slightly more complex character, and I found myself constantly guessing what her background story was. The relationship she had with her brother shared was an unbreakable one, Wendy had truly given her life to care for him and it was clear how much he appreciated her sacrifices.
If you have been reading the Delta Force Heroes series, you will have likely been awaiting Truck’s story, the next book in the series. Blade’s story builds up a lot of tension regarding Truck and Mary’s story, and wow, Susan Stoker did amazing!
If you love reading military romances, I highly recommend the Delta Force Heroes series, and would suggest you read them in ordering starting with book #1, Rescuing Rayne.
OH YESSSSSSS! Another Delta Hero book from Susan Stoker. Rescuing Wendy is exactly what I have been craving! Its a sigh worthy romance with just the right amount of suspense, a slow build love story that will make you believe in heroes and romance and the power of friendship..especially when you read about all my favorite Delta Heroes and their women. I have come to realize that once you start a Susan Stoker book, you will not only become hooked on the current read, but come to desire her books in EVERY series and STILL want more!
Rescuing Wendy is Blade's story. I found him to be a perfect gentleman, patient, extraordinarily handsome, sweet, protective...pretty much EVERYTHING I desire in a hero. And Wendy..I admire the heck out of her! What she did for her brother was pretty brave..even if it was scary. She did and gave up so much just to keep him safe and loved. That is pretty darn amazing to me. And she deserved to have the kind of hero Blade is. There is a bit of drama, but it was quickly made to right and the story was incredible to me. It made my heart melt, made me want my OWN Delta hero and made me want the Mary's book something FIERCE! Gah! I LOVED IT!
Rescuing Wendy gets a HEARTFELT FOUR AND A HALF SHOOTING STARS!
Another exceptional book By Susan Stoker. Another book that showed me that love can triumph over all and anything that is throw in its path.
Aspen “Blade” Carlisle is the last of his Delta Force team to find love. One night Blade finds himself talking to a telemarketer who is trying to sell him life insurance, and from this conversation other follow in it'sake. Blake gets to know Wendy, finding her to be easy to chat with as if he has know her his entire life. He finally manages to convince her that they should meet, even of for a drink, but their first meeting is messed up, and Wendy now is sure that She and Aspen made a mistake in trying to take this further. But Blade has over time learned to be persistent and before long Wendy is allowing the man to spend more time with her and with Jack the teen brother she has raised. But she has secrets, things that are haunting her and could possible ruin things between them. But being with him also means that she has the team of Deltas at her back, will both survive what is to come, Will the team survive the secret that is revealed, just read the book, its a great, warm and fantastic story. Susan wove her magic all over the story and her characters, now I can't wait to read the rest of the books that are coming out.
How does he mistake another woman for Wendy when they’ve been speaking on the phone for two months? That whole mix up with the OW and his reaction to her was so gross.
Meh. I'll admit that I wasn't as annoyed with this one as Rescuing Harley but I feel like the plots for this series are trying to test the bounds of ability to suspend disbelief.
Overall, the whole thing with Wendy and Jackson and their big SECRET™ was just way past believable. And I didn't like when things went south with Wendy and Blade that she looked at it from a "well if this is how he's reacting to me not telling him my real age, then he's going to be worse when he finds everything out" because just...that's making a whole lot of assumptions based on no evidence. Or maybe a shit-ton of evidence to the contrary. Yeah, Blade shouldn't have said a couple of the things he did but fights are a thing and words get said in the heat of the moment. It also felt a little like Blade had to do all the apologizing and Wendy just got to say "I'm so conflict aversive so I froze" and then there you go. The grovel was nowhere near satisfying enough on either side.
The whole thing with the reveal on Truck and Mary's relationship was stupid. Like I'm not saying people couldn't be hurt, but a)they're grown men, not teenage girls and b)Why the hell did it mean that the rest of the team had to stop talking to each other? Like I guess I could see people not wanting to talk to Truck but why did that mean Blade couldn't talk to Fletch or Coach and Hollywood couldn't get together? Someone mentioned that it made them question their blind trust in each other and just...that's the point of a brotherhood like this! You trust each other to have your backs! Yeah, when someone is stupid you get might get mad but that doesn't mean that you completely ice them out because you're all acting butt-hurt that you didn't know about a secret. Whether or not Truck and Mary should have said something earlier we can argue about later, but the fact that everyone was suddenly "but why didn't you tell me?" especially when it has happened before was stupid and made me want to knock some heads together.
Another great Susan Stoker read. I love the Delta Force Heroes and their women. With every book that I read further into the series I become more and more afraid that the end is near and I don't want it to ever end.
The relationship between Blade and Wendy started out so odd that I truly was concerned that I wasn't going to enjoy the book. Why did I ever question the master at work? Ms. Stoker has never let me down in the past and she didn't now.
Wendy called Blade to sell him life insurance. For whatever reason Blade took an instant interest in her and started up a conversation. He learned that she did cold calls for multiple products and he asked that she call him back with those. Each time she called they talked more and more and eventually passed on their personal numbers and started up a text and call friendship never actually meeting. Far fetched? I feel like yes, but it was easy to get past since the characters and story are so likable and real.
As always the supporting characters were a great addition and we just happened to get more of Mary and Truck in this book. All heck breaks loose when their news broke loose. It'll be interesting to read their story.
Gah!! Only one book away from the finale of this series. After reading Rescuing Wendy it's confirmed I not only love this series, the end is near and I don't want to let them go.
In Rescuing Wendy, Aspen "Blade" Carlisle is the last one in the group to find love. So when a telemarketer calls him to sell him insurance, he feels a connection with the sweet voice on the line. Wendy, the voice that comforts him after a long day, is sweet but evasive. As their relationship progresses, Aspen realizes that Wendy is not just being evasive, she hiding something big. Can they relationship overcome this secret?
I love this series. I love that Susan Stoker writes about real life people with real life dilemmas. Issues that you can relate with. No one writes military quite like Susan Stoker. If you haven't read this series, you are seriously missing out.
Now to wait for Rescuing Mary which I can already tell is going to break me apart.
Rescuing Wendy continues the stories of the Delta Force team finding love. This time, the man who falls hard is Blade! Here are my thoughts:
At first, I was SUPER annoyed with Wendy's self deprecation. I get annoyed with heroines who are all like "oh my gosh, why does he like me? I'm ugly/fat/not worth it". I realize that MOST women are like this, but it gets annoying to read about it. However, I did end up liking Wendy and thought she was a really unique character. What she did for her brother was amazing (yet very far fetched). Blade and Wendy had some attraction and I liked that they got to know each other before ever meeting. I'm not sure I fully felt the connection between them, but it didn't ruin the story. The suspense near the end with Wendy's brother Jack was a bit (a lot) over the top. A Delta Force team taking down some bullies? But, whatever, I still liked it! You just have to kind of suspend reality a bit. I know some readers hate that, but its not a deal breaker for me. Jack is a cool kid and his relationship with Wendy really added a lot of awesomeness to the story!
If you like romantic suspense with imperfect heroines (and I don't mean physically imperfect), strong family bonds, and a touch of danger, Rescuing Wendy will be right up your alley!
POV: 3rd Tears: no Trope: secret identity, military Triggers: none Series/Standalone: stand alone within an interconnected series Cliffhanger: HEA:

I throughly enjoyed Rescuing Wendy! Aspen and Wendy actually meet via her 2nd job as a telemarketer. They finally meet in person and sparks fly. The road to happily ever after is definitely not smooth. And there are more than Wendy’s secrets. Trust is very fragile and it is really tested in Rescuing Wendy!
Blade is the last to find his girl, though not the last to find his HEA ... that’s ever patient Truck. One night Blade is so bored he not only answers the telemarketing call, he chats up the girl trying to sell him insurance. After flirting for awhile, he says “you have my number, call me again”. Soon the tease of sales calls makes way for exchanging cell phone numbers and chatting on a daily basis.
When it comes to their first in person date, they agree to make it a true blind date. They haven’t exchanged photos, only basic descriptions and “I’ll be wearing”. Unfortunately, Wendy gets there first and a predatory female grills her for info then sends Wendy off to the bathroom to check her teeth. When she returns the same female is flirting with a man that has to be Blade. He’s gorgeous and he’s smiling and she gets cold feet. But not before they momentarily lock eyes across the room.
Blade figures out the female is faking, but not in time to catch Wendy. He texts and calls, but Wendy doesn’t answer. Finally, her kid brother Jackson picks up and gives Blade an earful. Fortunately, Jackson sees a good thing in their fledgling relationship and lets Blade know where Wendy works and when he can catch her leaving. They sit on a bench and talk and all the comfort of their phone calls carries onto real life.
Rather than dumping Wendy in the middle of his friends, Blade introduces them slowly. First dinner with his sister Casey and Beatle. Later Fletch, Emily, and Annie come to a play at Jackson’s school. Jackson is dating a girl in the play. Jackson meets the whole team before Wendy, as Blade agrees to teach Jackson self defense, as he’s been dealing with a bully.
Wendy has secrets she isn’t ready to share with Blade, even when he reveals he’s a member of a Delta Team. Blade overreacts and Wendy shuts down and Jackson must once again bring them back together.
I really liked how Aspen and Wendy got to know each other in this one, their quiet phone calls, some of which were when Wendy was working. It allowed them to just be. Meeting in person was scary for Wendy, so when she agreed I hated how it went wrong, but was glad that there was a second chance. The few weeks when everything was great between them was perfect, something each deserved. I was very let down when Aspen pushed at something he knew Wendy was hiding. I felt at this point he should have trusted Wendy, that if she could have told him she would have and know that there had to be a good reason why she held on to this secret so tight.
I liked the role that Jackson played in this book. From proud big brother urging on his sister to date, to avenging his sister, to protecting those that need it. Aspen very much needed the kick in the pants when Jackson came to talk to him about Wendy, was glad that Jackson told his secret, that Aspen realized just how much he screwed up. Better was Jackson telling Aspen he needed to bring his groveling shoes.
The drama at the end was crazy! I hated how punks thought they deserved more, loved how all of our characters were drawn in and of course won. You would think that would end the book, the good guys won, the bad guys didn't. Nope, instead this fight brought out a secret that seemed to split our group and it was pretty. I was glad to see it partly resolved, the other part should make the next book very interesting to read!
I wondered why I had only given this two stars and not left a review... I think the following may have resolved that for me...
Blade in the first few pages...
Knowing he needed to ditch the whore so he could find his date, he flung her hand away from his body and stood. Then he leaned in and brushed a finger over the top of her tits, which were heaving up and down in her agitation, and said quietly, “I would fuck Wendy in those pajamas every day and twice on Sunday before I’d even think about sticking my dick in your nasty-ass cunt.”
Blade a couple of pages later...
“No one has the right to touch a woman without her permission,” Aspen said, his voice steely hard. “Those assholes would probably argue that they weren’t hurting her. That all they were doing was touching her arm, but that’s not the point.”
Bit of a mixed message going on there... just because she was a ( unconfirmed ) sex worker it was OK to touch her? Blade... oh Blade... so very disappointing.
Apart from that, I liked Wendy... I really liked what she did for her brother. She is a good person! Having said that... I felt more invested in Jackson and Jen's relationship...
This could've been easily 4 stars if it wasn't for the fact that throughout the book, there were occasional scenes where Aspen/Blade and other males in the story called women insulting labels like "whore, bitch, etc" even though they weren't nice people, but the whole labeling disturbed me. It shows something about Aspen's and other males' characters to be cavalier about labels and names. On the whole, I do find Aspen to be slightly more immature than other males in the series.
Wendy is nice enough a character, if not a bit naive. But nothing against her for that. She was extremely protective of Jackson, her brother.
This story shows more emotional drama and individuals' flaws within the Delta Force and their women's lives. Before this, most of the story was hunky dory, everyone got along famously. Truck and Mary rocked the boat, and the secret they kept fractured their friendships. It was nice to see something real for a change.
Wendy bored and irritated me in equal measure. She was a contradiction and not in a good way. Let's see..
She was so naive and trusting that she practically shared her life story with a complete stranger in bar, but she's holding on to her true age from the man she's been talking to for MONTHS after they've had sex. WTH?
Hard pass for me. Her reasoning was flawed an non-sensical. She hates conflict so much that she does anything to avoid it...except all she does is cause conflict through her secrecy and avoidance.
It was boring. And frustrating.
This one was a miss for me. The younger brother had more maturity than the heroine. I rooted more for his relationship than I did for Wendy and Blade.
Crossing my fingers that the final book in this series finishes strong.
