Now on to part 3... These cliffies kill me
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bad part about being in the middle of this book series is the frustration level. You don’t know where it’s leading. You have to wait to the next installment to get there. And this cliffhanger doesn’t help. Grr
The author has crafted a intricate plot with many shades of espionage and betrayal. Half truths that are based on lies or just a portion of the truth create an unwary balance of trust between Amanda and Seth.
I really like these two characters together. They know each other well and yet they have many reasons to not trust each other. However, they need each other to get to the truth one way or another. With our without each other.
A few hot scenes and some sweet declarations doesn’t mean all is well. Now we wait for book 3 where the truth will come out and hopefully more hot connections that will lead to a permanent coupling for Amanda and Seth. MMmm - love him! So hot!
Book #2 starts where we left Amanda and Seth on the plane to Texas in book #1.
She just played him the voice-mail her mom left her three years ago. Telling her that Seth was probably sent to kill her. Which is why she ran away back then.
Our darlings have lots of trust issues to fight through and a crazy killer to catch.
It might take them a while to get to that happy ever after! ☺
Again we go back in time a few times to see how they fell in love three years ago. But was all that back then lies and espionage? How can they ever trust each other again?
We'll find out! ... maybe not yet ... book #3 will be here next week! ☺
Poison Kisses Part 2 starts off right where Part 1 ended. Amanda’s mother’s voice mail still hangs in the air between her and Seth. Sometimes taking a step forward requires taking two steps back. With these two, these words couldn’t be truer. They kept fluctuating between trust and distrust that even I got dizzy. But soon secrets are revealed and hidden truths are finally discovered and these two seem to finally get on the same page. Together, they become a force to be reckoned with and their enemies better watch the heck out!
Once again, LRJ brings romance and intrigue together in a wholly irresistible and spicy mix. I still can’t get enough of Seth and Amanda was still just as amazing as ever. Neither knew what it was to back down, which was a good thing because there was too much to fight for. I’m still rooting for their happily ever after and I’m looking forward to an explosive finish to the series in book three.
OMG that ending.....well really I mean holy shit Batman what a cliffhanger!!
Oh boy, so much went on here but we still don't have any answers. We start off right where part 1 left off with Amanda's mothers message warning her about Seth and Amanda learns about what happened after she ran. I love he chemistry between Seth and Amanda its something that they can't resist even if they wanted to.
This was a great 2nd part to the series. I read it in one sitting and was absolutely dying to start the next part when I was finished. Their relationship grows fire hot in this installment and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. I have no idea how long this part was, but it read really fast and I felt like it was over in no time at all.
I received an advance reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review.
Poison Kisses by Lisa Renee Jones is Book Two in the 'Poison Kisses" series. This continues the story of Amanda Skye and Seth Cage. Since this is the second part to their story you really should read the previous book 'Poison Kisses Part 1'. This book does start right where the last one left off. Amanda and Seth are still trying to deal with their feelings of attraction and mistrust...but they still have to work together.
Really enjoying their story!
I reviewed Poison Kisses 2 and 3 together so this same review is posted under each book.
Lisa Renee Jones takes Romantic Suspense and kicks it up to the point that you have no idea where anything is headed. Poison Kisses 1, 2 and 3 make up an interesting, exciting, love/hate story that had me totally enthralled and captivated. Twists and turns that took my totally by surprise and a beautiful love story makes this one fantastic series.
Seth and Amanda, the secrets they are keeping and the love they have for each other is what made this story as engrossing as it was. As they try to catch a potential killer, they are also trying to clear Amanda's name, figure out who all the players are, who set her up and not kill each other. They are suspicious of each other, as well as, everyone around them. It's hard to trust when you think you have been betrayed. But, the truth finally starts coming out … feelings, that never died, are revealed and accepted as truth … family betrayal comes to light … the participants that caused all the drama are finally revealed. The story comes full circle and ends where it all began.
I am a true fan of Lisa Renee Jones, her style of writing and just the way she tells a story. The way she makes her stories flow is amazing. What I loved most about the Poison Kisses series is that we got both Seth and Amanda's views and feelings. We were brought into their world and understood why they were like they were. She made them an amazing team both in and out of bed. She knows how to write dark … she knows how to write erotica … she knows when to lighten up the story line and when to be really serious. But, most of all, she knows how to write the perfect ending with an HEA that fits the story perfectly.
Its been 3 years and Now Seth has found Amanda but not with a welcoming greeting with a gun pointed at him cause now she knows he is The Assassin and had a kill order on her and her parents. Now they had a bigger problem only Amanda can help with a rogue CIA agent is poisoning water supply and only Amanda can help find him and create a antidote if this rogue agent get his poison into the water supply so off they go to TX. Amanda doesn't trust Seth because he is The Assassin and she will not let her guard down again she trusted him before and her parents maybe dead because of him. Seth also feels betrayed because he gave her everything and she left him and their handler to died. He never stop looking for her. So will they put aside their differences to catch this killer/rogue agent before he kills hundreds maybe thousands more?
Poison Kisses by Lisa Renee Jones is Book Two in the 'Poison Kisses" series. This continues the story of Amanda Skye and Seth Cage. This is seriously intense and suspenseful read and we are only on part 2 in a 3 part series. This book does start right where the last one left off. Amanda and Seth are still trying to deal with their feelings of desire, attraction, betrayal, secrets, mistrust and lies. In this book we now know why Amanda disappeared and are left with several more questions. Seth and Amanda are still dealing with the betrayal from the past, the lust and love that is still between them is steaming up pretty nicely. They went from lovers to enemies to lovers, but what about the love? But before they can get a handle on their pasts, they need to figure out how to take down Dr. Franklin Ross.
As this story shows glimpses into their past, Amanda and Seth truly loved each other and now in the present, that loved hasn’t died even though that love is being tested. They are being tested and are having to learn to trust each other all over, after what happened 3 years before. There is this push and pull between the two of them. They went from enemies to lovers. Could that love be salvaged along with the trust? Well that is one of the big things going on along with the chaos is still happening. I do want to say it was great to see old characters interact with new characters in this series. It made my heart flutter big time happily. But this story ended on a HUGE cliffhanger. I couldn’t believe that happened. Now I Have to wait for book 3 to find out what happens. I am hanging on dying to find out what happens.
What an intense middle chapter in this 3-part killer suspense. The author sets her two hard agents pitted against each other in a face-off in close quarters. I found it so arousing! Accusations fly along with demands for answers. They have to delve deep into what happened three years ago, and the plot thickens as more of the past resurfaces in flashbacks. The present mission gets darker, too.
Seth tells the story from his POV again, his feelings for his deadly scientist as powerful as his intent to uncover all the murky details of why she disappeared and if her guilt can be proven. Sleazy dealings and bloody terrorists tangle with hot reconciliation, all in that suspenseful and calculated style that the author masters. I truly love how she deals with stormy feelings while describing passionate lovemaking. Gorgeous!
And the cliffhanger in this installment is just awesome, heart-wrenching and oh so thrilling. Love it :-D
ARC received for an honest review
Part 2 starts up right where part 1 ended so you will need to have read it first.
Suspense, betrayal, secrets and lies. Tension (both of the sexual and non-sexual kind) abounds as Seth and Amanda try to come to terms with who has set them up, whether they can trust each other, or whether they will kill each other.
In the first part of the series, I surmised that someone was pitting them against each other but we did not know whom it was. We still do not know, but it is heating up.
I did feel that this short did flounder a little in the middle, and things went around in circles for a while, however once things did move ahead...
BAM we were cliffhangered. But that's OK, as we only have a week to wait for the final installments.
The second installment of the Poison Kisses Trilogy takes on a thrilling ride to uncover truths and find a madman set on taking lives. This novella length story was packed full of intrigue, suspense, and scorching chemistry. The questions kept building. The more we uncovered, the more questions I had. Add in the excitement and the concern about Franklin, and I was hooked.
I’m enjoying the anticipation that the cliffhangers have created for me. While I love cliffhangers, I know that many don’t, and this series really didn’t need to be a series due to the length of each novella. For me, the way these two parts have ended, have left me excited for more, ready to tackle the next part.
I can’t wait to see how Jones connects all the pieces in Part Three. With the danger increasing, I’m on the edge of my seat.
** ARC kindly provided for an honest review. **
It was time to get the answers, after some years apart, well I was waiting …
I hate you/ I love you side of the story was just a bit irritating at times and definitely going on circles. As we followed them into their mission, I was expecting more development. And I didn’t find it.
The thing is, as a novella, things are condensed for sure and I think the length of story didn’t serve Amanda and Seth, and the sense of being directly involved could have been great but it needed more development, more time to make it more believable.
Amanda and Seth were trying to trust each other again, but how could they make it possible, when everything seemed to tear them apart? Bringing more suspicion and resentment.
Once again, it was really repetitive. The answers came a little too late but the ending was definitely more interesting.
Poison Kisses (Complete Series) by Lisa Renee Jones
3.5 stars!!!!
“I don’t like unknowns. Ever. Unknowns mean trouble. And trouble gets you killed.”
Poison Kisses is a three-part series, each book released a week apart and the concluding part released this week. This was one of those series where I had to read each instalment as soon as it hit my kindle and for the hour or so they take to read my eyes never left the pages. CIA/FBI, espionage, assassins in all guises makes this entertaining reading and certainly leaves the reader trying to read between the lines, distinguish the trusted from the untrustworthy and try and gauge if the good guys really can win.
“Without trust, there are just enemies.”
If you have read the Dirty Money series, you will have heard of Seth, as he was Shane’s right hand man and ex-CIA, and now Lisa Renee Jones has graced us with his own book. In the Dirty Money series, he was a bit of an enigma, extremely professional, well connected and seemed detached and impassive. It is only after reading this first instalment I truly appreciated just how cold he was, the CIA changes you, but being burnt and betrayed by your partner and your lover will do that to you too.
“I don’t remember ever living in a perfect world for even one day of my life. There are just façades of perfection.”
They say that you are never ex-CIA, even if you are and while Shane is on his honeymoon, Seth is recalled into the fold to follow, assist and maybe kill another ex-agent, who just so happens to be his ex-partner, his ex-lover, the woman that destroyed him for all others, an agent dubbed the Scientist or the Poison Princess…so it is only right they call upon the agent once named the Assassin.
“You might be the Assassin, but I’m the Scientist. And if you think I’m not your match, think again.”
When these two are re-united, both are well aware of the others objectives, neither trusts the other and yet the explosive chemistry that these two once shared is still prevalent in spades. But, they hate each other, but we all know there is a fine line between love and hate.
“Amanda, for now, we’re on our way to save lives. And then we’re going to try to take each other’s. But I’m pretty damn sure we’re going to fuck a time or ten before we get there. Because that’s what you do to your enemies. You fuck them.”
This series is action packed, fast paced and I feel skirts the realms of plausibility as far as FBI/CIA agents are concerned, but it makes for entertaining reading. I adore this authors writing style, but for me, this series could have done with being a little longer, certain parts explored greater in depth and the ending for me felt convenient and rushed. Over the previous two, and half of this instalment we had a fantastic build up and then it was all over while I blinked. Overall though, this series has been an entertaining read for people like me who love crime, mysteries and thrillers it certainly scratches the itch, but this was one of those itches that kept moving and the book series didn’t catch up.
“I was always the Poison Princess to you, wasn’t I?”
“You were my kind of poison.”
However, as ever with a Lisa Renee Jones read the chemistry was palpable, the action between the sheets was incredibly hot and the dialogue was on point. The heart wants who the heart wants and despite a three year break the chemistry that these had is as prevalent as ever. While the sexual chemistry is reignited straight away it takes a while for the trust element to reignite, but these two work well together and I was glad that these two didn’t just pick up from where they left off. They re-build, but as I said above I felt a little more depth here would have gone a long way. Overall though a very thrilling read.
“Don’t do that to us…Don’t do that to me.”
4 stars!
*Poison Kisses: Part Two is the second part of Seth and Amanda’s story. It cannot be read as a standalone and contains spoilers for Poison Kisses: Part One.
Part Two picks up immediately after Part One ends. We now know and understand why Amanda disappeared and are left with several questions. Even though Seth and Amanda still feel the betrayal from before, the lust and love that is still between them is heating up. But before they can deal with their past, they need to figure out how to focus on taking down Dr. Franklin Ross.
When the book begins, the anger and hurt between Seth and Amanda is still very much alive and gaining each other’s trust seems like an impossible feat. However, as they open up to each other two different sides unfold and we slowly see the pieces of the past come together. The mystery and suspense is captivating and I wanted desperately to know why things happened the way they did, who Seth and Amanda can trust, and who lurks in the background as new players seem to enter the game.
Trying to stop Dr. Ross puts Amanda and Seth together in intimate quarters and feelings from the past are front and center as they try to work through their complicated relationship. The sexual tension is palpable and there is no way they can deny the pull they’ve felt from the moment they met. The spark that once exploded between them years ago is now just as intense, passionate, and present as ever.
“Yes,” she whispers and then we’re kissing, crazy-hot kissing, drinking each other in, like we’re never going to get a drink again. And maybe we won’t. Maybe one of us will die before this night is over. But that’s how we always fucked and loved. Like there would be no tomorrow.
I loved the way Seth and Amanda open up and the commitment to making their relationship work; however, just like in Part One, there is a major cliffhanger at the end that screws up everything. Up until this point we have seen Seth’s side of the story first-hand from his point-of-view. After the jaw-dropping bomb that is delivered, we are left questioning everything and Amanda needs answers. Finally, we will get to see Amanda’s point-of-view in the conclusion to the Poison Kisses trilogy. Part Three here I come!
Just a little side note: I love the way Lisa Renee Jones does a recap of the series so far as more books are released. It refreshes your memory so you can dive into the next book without forgetting what happened before.
Poison Kisses: Part 2 picks up right after that cliffy we got in Part 1. So please note that it cannot be read as a standalone.
"Wet heat consumes me until I'm buried in her, and when we look at each other, a world of hate, love and damage radiates between us, somehow all as right as it is wrong."
Seth and Amanda are still trying to figure out what happened three years ago. They are straddling that line between love and hate and they continue to distrust each other about their past. At the end of Part 1, we are left with just thinking that we are going to find out what happened that separated them three years ago and why they are where they are now. In Part 2, they are still trying to figure it out. Just as the start to trust each other, new things come up and suspicion is back.
As we get glimpses into their past, it's clear that they love each other and it's still clear in the present. Both of them are fighting their natural instincts that make them who they are in order to attempt to try to trust the other. Yet again, just as I think we are about to get some answers or are in a better place, we are left hanging. I don't mind the push and pull between the two. I can understand being hurt in the past and trying to recover from that an move on with that same person in the future. For me, it makes me want to root harder for them.
So here I am now, anxiously waiting for the last installment so I can find out what is going to happen. I look forward to getting more Seth and Amanda and their constant battle of wills and passion.
** ARC provided by the author for an honest review **
The Poison Princess and the Assassin are back together again. New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones brings us the second part in the Poison Kisses serial and it is a heck of a lot steamier and even more suspenseful than the first.
We pick up right where part one left off, Amanda and Seth demanding answers from each other regarding that night three years prior. They still don’t trust each other even after they have their answers, something just doesn’t add up. Will they figure out what’s going on before it’s too late?
I really enjoyed part one, but that was just the back story. Now we are in the thick of the action. Seth and Amanda running, fighting and making love, well not really love but you get the picture. The intense passion that the two shared from day one is still evident in every look and felt with every touch. But they have a mission to accomplish and that means not falling for each other again.
This is fun action packed read. It has its sexy moments and the thrill of danger is ever present. Of course, it ends on another cliffhanger, and whoa buddy, this one is a doozy! I cannot wait to dive into part three and find out what is happening and how it ends for Seth and Amanda. Four stars.
** Part 2 Review: 4 Poison Princess Stars **
Holy Hell!
I'm loving the way Seth is talking to Amanda, while Seth is ice, Amanda is fire, their chemistry is so palpable that I'm feeling every stroke of the heat & lust.
Part 2 picks up directly from part 1 and alternates between the past and the present as Seth and Amanda dances around each other, deciding if there is still trust and love between them.
While the plot (sets in the present time) continues to progress, we also have alternate flashbacks of the past. We get to see more growth in their relationship as readers get a clearer insight as to what exactly happened three years ago that has set them apart and Amanda into hiding.
I really liked part 2 as it made part 1 seemed like a warm up. I was eager to uncover the truth and have my suspicions. I loved that Poison kisses fed me the thrill of both a romance and a good old mystery. AND THAT FREAKING CLIFFY.
Part Two of the Poison Kisses serial is told entirely in Seth's point of view, providing much-needed insight into his actions and emotions.
Although the revelations are still withheld and only small glimpses of the bigger puzzle Seth and Amanda have to piece together. There is a subtle sense of deja vu within the narrative with respect to the assignment Seth and Amanda find themselves partnered on after three very long years apart. This strange predicament also leads to thoughts of how the past and present could be tied together and more importantly who is pulling the strings behind the scenes.
I loved seeing the depth of Seth's feelings toward Amanda and his determination to claim his HEA despite all of the major obstacles in their path. We actually get to see the softer side of Seth that he reserves just for Amanda ♥
I have a feeling there is going to be a major twist in this tale. Amanda's side of the story is coming in part three releasing on the 20 Feb 2018.
For the love of all cliffhangers! At least I have #3 in my hot little hands and can start that right away! Just when you think Seth and Amanda are hitting their strides to taking down the bad guy so they can get on with their life something else gets in the way. There is a lot of going back and forth with telling of the past and moving forward with the present and just when they think they have forgiven each other and the trust is back something is thrown in their path. Will they overcome it and work through it. Guess we will have to find out...
GAH!!!!!!
The pieces are falling into place. They are falling, but whether or not they are falling into place has still yet to be determined. The second installment of Poison Kisses from Lisa Renee Jones picks up right where the first left off… the ominous voice mail from mom. Dun, dun, dun. Thrown back into the height of betrayal and half truths between The Assassin and The Poison Princess. Secrets, suspense, lies, and passion. Will Amanda Skye and Seth Cage ever get answers? Their passion is intense, but can they get past trust issues and rekindle what was stolen from them three years ago?
I can’t wait for the final installment to get these answers and to finally uncover the truth behind this explosive tale of espionage and deception.
Part 2 begins right from where the first part has ended, with Seth and Amanda on their way to their new assignment.
As expected, this part of Seth's POV, is as high as the first one.
Full of action, suspense, questions and of course the never ending doubt between the two agents. I can't wait to see how it ends between these two.
For once I wish this was a whole book, and not a three part story. It just kills me with every ending.
This one picks up right where part 1 leaves off so if you haven't read it then you must read it first. Amanda and Seth have major trust issues however they are trying to move forward. I absolutely love the ride they are on. I am really rooting for them to decide to love and trust versus being enemies and having to kill each other, but man what a freaking cliffhanger that ending was. Lisa Renee Jones keeps you on the edge of your seat and keeps you guessing. I can not wait for the conclusion of their story!! Another great read from a great author!
If you know anything about Lisa Renee Jones' work, you know that you truly know very little. You can guess, you can theorize,and you can hypothesize but you will never be 100% certain.
Poison Kisses is no different. Seth Cage is running the show...or is he. Handlers, poisons, and killers oh my! What's the truth, what happened three years ago, and why now?
I have no idea but I'm dying to find out!!!
Yes, there is another cliffhanger but let me tell you this it is so worth it all to read it and get in on what the assasin and scientist a making happen. The past have lead them to this present and what happens next will let us know if they have a future and if so what type of future that will be. LRJ leads you on a set of twist and turns and you turn every page wanting to know what will be next. Watching Amanda and Seth sets you up for so much more to come, but you know you have to wait because there is another part.
For Sage and Amanda the pieces are falling into place. For readers, Ms. Jones amps up the chase. The complications become more extreme as the danger gets more intense. Lurking in the shadows are the answers they seek, they just may have come to late. The Poison Kisses series provides edge of the seat seduction, that leaves the mind spinning, heart racing and readers craving more.
