The Watchers Universe #14

Sweet Devotion: Mae and Tristan's Story

Rate this book
When she was a little girl, Mae Cole met someone who left a permanent imprint on her soul and changed her life forever. Several years have passed since Mae last saw Tristan, but not even time has been able to diminish the special connection they first shared. During her Thanksgiving break from college, a force for pure evil unexpectedly reintroduces Tristan back into Mae’s world. Now that they’ve been reunited, Mae has no intentions of letting Tristan leave her again and pledges to aid him in his quest to save his brother’s soul. Ever since returning from alternate Earth, Tristan has been on what seems like a futile undertaking to bring his brother and father back to God. Tristan realizes that the odds of changing his father’s black heart are infinitesimal, but he holds out hope that his brother, Jasper, will find a way to step out of his father’s shadow and break his bond to a man who has done nothing but use him for his own nefarious purposes. Mae soon realizes that in order for her to have a chance at a future with Tristan, she needs to find a way to help him resolve his family issues. Thankfully, God opens a door for her to walk through that will not only help Mae and Tristan reach their goals but also save the souls of the cursed Watcher children before they’re lost forever. ***This novel can be read any time after the Alternate Earth Series*** Reading Order of Watcher Books by The Watchers Trilogy (Ages 13+): Cursed, Blessed, Forgiven The Watcher Chronicles (Ages 17+ due to mature content and themes): Broken, Kindred, Oblivion, Ascension Caylin's Story (Ages 13+ - Can be read by younger readers without having to read the Watcher Chronicles): Timeless, Devoted Aiden's Story (Ages 17+ due to mature content and themes) Alternate Earth Series (Ages 17+ due to mature content and themes): Cataclysm, Uprising, Judgment The Redemption Series (Ages 17+ due to mature content and themes): Malcolm, Anna, Lucifer, Redemption The Dominion Series (Ages 17+ due to mature content and themes): Awakening, Reckoning, Enduring The Everlasting Fire War Angel Contingent, Between Two Worlds (Coming Soon)

Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.

The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.

I came across this talented author a little over 4 yrs ago, my first book "Cursed" & was hooked from that day forward. I had the priveledge to meet Sandra at PennedCon this year & had a huge #fangirl moment❤

"She was my pinpoint of light in a world that had been made up of nothing but darkness up until that time."

I have been waiting on Mae & her "puppy's" story since I was introduced to them in the Cursed series! I loved Sweet Devotion! It was perfect & fell in love with Tristan & the gang all over again! I always enjoy the mystery & suspense of this world. As soon as I am caught up, I'm going to do a reread all the way through!

'Sweet Devotion: Mae and Tristan's Story' (A Watcher Novel)
Read18 September 2024

As I began to read this book, I was struck by the flow. Because I am a fan of this author and her entire multiple series that has now led to this book, I guess the excitement was overwhelming for me. The story began a bit differently than the previous ones did, but as I read on, I felt myself falling right back into the familiar rhythm that this author in the Watchers series is known for. It felt like coming back home after a long journey. In true fashion, author S.J. West created within this newest world, a continuous story with all the familiar characters, relationships, excitement, and what you hope for, as she also spins a Web of intricately woven details that brings to life yet another memorable existence to get lost in for a little while.

I have to admit that I re-read this book a few times before I decided to write my review. It's not unusual for me to do so, because from the first 'Watchers Trilogy to The Alternate Earth Series' I've re-read all of them multiple times, and re-read the entire multiple series before reading this one, so I could flow directly into it with ease. I absolutely recommend this book, but I would also recommend that you start from the beginning of the very first 'Watchers Trilogy', because you'll receive the full experience of getting to know, loving, and growing with each character, their lives, and journey.

Author S.J. West, in my opinion, is a master storyteller. She draws you in, makes you an intrical part of her characters and their reality, where you will never ever be the same after entering her written world.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

Yay, I’m glad we got Mae and Tristan’s story as we finally find out how and why Tristan broke his connection to his father Rolph to protect Mae when she was only 4 years old at the time and now she’s a young women who hasn’t seen her puppy in years. Tristan stayed away for her protection. I thought Mae and Tristan were adorable together and their quest from God to save the lost Watcher children is going to take years to complete but he definitely chose the right people for the job as Tristan is a Watcher child who was forced into drinking human bl*od by his father Rolph but God has still offered to take the curse away from him if he’ truely asked for forgiveness so the other Watcher children will know that forgiveness can be granted even after doing some really horrible stuff and Mae has some sort of gift for animals that must’ve been passed down from her grandfather Michael. I loved getting snippets of all the previous Watchers Universe characters and seeing how they’ve changed and grown since Jess, Mason, Malcolm, the Vessels, Lucifer, Jered and Tristan arrived back from stopping the apocalypse on alternate earth. I’d happily read any books from the Watcher Universe that SJ West releases. I’m looking forward to reading Malcolm and Anna’s story next, as well as getting to see Caylin’s chosen and how the world has changed in the last 1000 years. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

This book tells the story of Mae and Tristan. Its a stand alone book in the Watchers series. Like many other fans, I have been eagerly awaiting this book ever since their romance was hinted at, however I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed this story. I loved learning more about both Mae and her life with her family, as well as Tristan’s complicated relationship with his brother and father. SJ West created another strong empowered character, who speaks her mind and is her own person. I also loved the nostalgia that this book brought and that my fav characters Malcolm shows up, as well as many other Watchers favourites including Jesse, Mason and Tara. Overall, I highly recommend this book as well as SJ West’s other Watchers books. Happy to give it 5 stars out of 5!

SPOILERS
This is a stand alone book that tells the story of Lily and Brand's daughter Mae's relationship with Tristan the werewolf who left saved her when she was a little girl and left his father ( This happens back in the Caylin story books)

This is rated PG, compared to The Watcher Chronicles.
I think it's a really sweet story of Mae and Tristan's relationship from the beginning
We also get a chance to see everyone else in her family the readers have grown to love like; Liliy, Brand, Malcom, Caylin, and all her other friends and family.

Overall, I'm glad we got a chance to see about Mae's story ended with her "Puppy".

When three year old Mae Cole walked up to a fully shifted werewolf, petted,it on the head and broke the mental link it had with its watcher (cursed) angel by calling him "puppy", she thought she had found her soul mate. She was wrong. Tristan was not her soul mate. He would not stay with her. There were family issues to resolve. His father had given his loyalty to Lucifer when his wife died giving birth to Tristan. He later had another son, Jasper. Both boys were abused by their father. Tristan held out hope that Jasper's soul could be sent to God by breaking his loyalty to his father's mental link.

I adored this story

I love Tristan and Maes story. It's a great love story witch with all of s.j. west stories obstacles are needed to over come. It's full s you with all emotions as you read it. It's not filled with nail biting twists and turns as most of her books are, which makes this book all the more special. There are some suspenseful moments in the story but way the story was written makes it perfect for Tristan and Mae one you don't want to miss!

I was so happy to finally read what became of Mae and her puppy and I was not disappointed. This book was so sweet and beautifully written. I enjoyed being on the Mae and Tristan ride since I have always wondered what happened between these two characters. I also loved the fact that we got to see some of my favorite characters from West's earlier books. I highly recommend this book to all readers!!

Sweet story

It is always so wonderful to read about our old friends mixed in the story with Mae and Tristan as well as it was with Aidan and Caylin story. Everyone had their HEA ending, however, I wish it had more sizzle but it didn't. This is definitely a book for the young as well as the "old" people like me. Lol. You can never not want to read about Mason, Jess, Lilly, Brand, Malcolm, and all their children!! It's fantastic!

This was a beautiful well written standalone about Mae and Tristan.
I really enjoyed the direction of the storyline and the slight touch of innocence you feel between Mae and Tristan which I feel very fitting for these characters.
I loved revisiting with past characters especially Tara; she still makes me laugh. I felt this was a great addition to the Watcher series and highly recommend.

Sweet Mae and her Puppy

This is a sweet story where you get to read about Mae finally being reunited with her Puppy, aka Tristan. It was good to read about some of my favorite characters further grown up and in their happily ever afters. But even in happiness there is always trials to overcome. If you enjoy the Watcher series, you'll enjoy this one.

A Watcher Novel
Though this is a standalone book, meaning it isn't part of one of the Watcher series, it is part of the Watcher Universe, and won't really make as much sense unless you read it as part of it. The start of this happened in Caylin's Story series, so this book has been a while coming. Enjoy!

Another great book

This was another book in "The Watchers" Series. All of the books have been the can't put down kind and this was no exception.
My only negative, if you could even call it that was, it was not longer! I will be waiting for the next one....

Loved it

I couldnt stop reading. The thought of soulmates is amazing but I think there is something even more amazing when you choose who you love. Tristan and Mae are two of a kind, they never give up on those they love. Great story once again SJ West.

a sweet read that provides a glimpse into the bond, and the future, of Mae and Tristan (two of my favorite characters from Caylin's story). I never get tired of reading about the Cole women from author S.J. West's Watcher world.

SJ West

I have loved all the books in this series. I like that they are love stories, but don’t go into graphic detail in the love scenes. Good should always win over evil. Thank you for writing these stories.
