The difference between wanting and taking is the barest catch of a breath...
Decadent food, smoky music, dark delights—who could live in the French Quarter and not be tempted to partake? Moira D’Arcangelis, that’s who.
Ever since her college boyfriend tried to add her to his list of murder victims, she’s lived a quiet life, which is code for no life at all. When her best friend Kara convinces—okay, drags—her to meet Adrian LaCroix, master of the local underground kink scene, his commanding presence and sexy Cajun accent bring her latent desires back to life.
His offer to train her as a Domme is the key to regaining control of her life. Yet becoming Adrian’s protégé comes with complications. As he opens her body, mind, and soul, she begins to see Kara in a new light—right about the time a legendary Domme returns, intent on stealing Kara away.
Moira has a fight on her hands. For Kara, and against a past that comes roaring back with a vengeance. She’ll need every trick Adrian can teach her to win the right to both life—and love.
Cat Montmorency grew up reading every book she could get her hands on, and pining after the ones she couldn’t. She’s been everything from lifeguard to riding instructor to high school math teacher, but discovered that being a ninja gamer-girl and out-of-the-closet die-hard romantic who writes things was much more fun. If pressed, she’ll describe herself as a Southern Belle with a geek complex and a fetish for well-crafted words.
Fleur de Nuit was a surprise for me in just how much I enjoyed it. While I love male/male romances, I will be honest and admit that f/f typically do not interest me. However, this book had it all. It had an interesting story, the twist of a male Dom training a female Domme, and enough hot and spicy sex to set the bayou on fire. There was nothing in this book that I didn’t devour and feel utterly satisfied in the end.
As a way of regaining control of her life after being the victim in a prior relationship, Moira’s best friend Kara introduces her to the kinky side of New Orleans and Adrian LaCroix, the owner of an exclusive BDSM club. Through training as a Domme, Moira learns how to control those around her and by extension, take back that part of her life that was lost.
I loved all of these characters. Moira was damaged, but not broken. Watching her try to find her identity again after seeing herself as a victim for so long was touching. As was her relationship with Kara. Finding her feelings for her best friend evolve into something more was completely sexy. And Adrian. Sigh. I could clearly hear his accent by the writing and found myself totally enamored of him. He was old school suave and sexy and I can’t wait to see him again. I’m only sorry we didn’t see him with his male subs. That would have been the icing on the cake!
My only criticisms, if I could even call them that, was that I wanted insight into what happened to Moira earlier in the story so I had a better understanding of her fears and motivations from the beginning. Also, I felt as if I missed what motivated Adrian to take Moira under his tutelage. She became his darling very quickly and I’m not sure what prompted it.
But these little nits aside, I completely fell for this book. The story, the characters, the heat of New Orleans, the sizzling sex, the power exchange, there was nothing that wasn’t fantastic. This is a series that I will be closely following and an author I can’t wait to read again.
So when I agreed to review this book, it was because it sounded sort of interesting and I hadn’t done a blog tour stop in a very very long time. I didn’t have high expectations for the book. I was prepared to come out of it firmly feeling “meh”. Since 50 Shades, there have been so many books about kink – and most of them aren’t done well at all.
But then I couldn’t put it down.
I stayed up until 1am when I was already exhausted because I simply couldn’t stop reading this book. This is the kind of book that gets under your skin and in your heart.
There are a few things that irritated me – which bumped it down to 4 stars instead of 5 (but oh my gosh guys – it’s so good). First, Moira went from a broken woman to Dominatrix extraordinaire way too quickly. That process should have likely taken months – or at the very least weeks. In the book, it happened in days. Second, I had a hard time believing that someone who went through what Moira did would so easily be able to step into this lifestyle. It was handled well in the narrative, but I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief at the beginning.
But truthfully, those things are easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things. This book. THIS BOOK. This book gave me everything I was hoping for (a decent romance) and then SO MUCH MORE.
Cat Montmorency understands kink. She understands the difference between being Dominant and being abusive.
The primary rule of a Dominant/submissive relationship is to hurt, not harm.
She understands that not everyone who has a kink or is in the BDSM community is a sadist or masochist. She understands that BDSM isn’t always physically sexual.
One of my favorite things about Fleur de Nuit was the inclusivity of it all. There were few labels (other than Dom(me)/sub). Sex could be enjoyed equally with your own gender as with the opposite gender. There were no rules (other than the aforementioned “No harm” rule). Straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, monogamous, non-monogamous… none of it was better than the other. None of it was treated as if it were unusual or wrong.
And the story. Romance novels are generally formulaic and predictable, yes? Not this one. When I started this book, I hadn’t read the blurb in awhile. I had no idea what it said. I couldn’t remember any of the characters it mentioned, and I only knew it involved kink because of the word “bondage” in the series name. If you read it now, you may not think the book was as unpredictable as I did. I was certain that Moira’s love interest was going to be someone other than it was. And then I thought maybe it was going to be someone else. Both of those characters fit the formula. But it wasn’t either of them.
I love it when a book surprises me.
And this book did. It reached up, grabbed me by my hair, and pulled me towards it until all I could do was submit and read it.
I received a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Fleur De Nuit is a bit different than the regular bondage club books. It's about a vanilla woman becoming a Domme which is something I've not read much about. Moira was in an abusive relationship and her ex actually kidnaps her and attempts to kill her. Her best friend Kara is by her side through it all and helps Moira in her recovery but then Kara moves to New Orleans. Moira follows Kara to the big easy after her mother passes away from cancer, which was the only thing keeping her from reuniting with the woman who's always been by her side. The besties are inseparable and closer than ever but Moira is still not taking life by the horns. Eventually Kara convinces Moira to try BDSM world after Kara insists Moira has just been skating thru life without really living, after her attack. Enter Adrian, the Dom in charge of Fleur De Nuit who takes Moira under his wing to train her as his newest Domme. I really loved the dynamic between best friends Kara(who is submissive) and Moira the burgeoning Domme. Add a very hot Cajun, French speaking Adrain and you have a dynamite story. I enjoyed the 3 of them together in a few steamy scenes that honestly I could have read more of. The characters were well written, enticing and erotic. Moira blossoming into dominance and retaking control of her life and control of Kara makes us root for her! If you dug the Domme aspect of The Original Sinners series by Reisz you would probably like this series also. Build up of side characters along the way left me wanting more and excited to read the next installment.
This started out promising but as it continued, I had to overlook the anti-therapy sentiments and hand-wave a few things about the BDSM rep and then it took a really bad turn. The story deals with intense trauma for the FMC through kink. It’s an interesting idea: since Moira doesn’t feel in control of her life, she can take control by becoming a Domme and we do get to see how this has a transformative effect on her. However, I wish Moira and Adrian hadn’t written off therapy as worthless, especially given what she’s been through. Perhaps she’s only seen therapists that weren’t a good fit for her; it’s hard to know since therapy is years in her past. But based on her PTSD and on-going nightmares about her then-boyfriend attacking, raping, and almost murdering her, she still should have been in treatment and kink should have served as a new tool instead of a magical cure.
Additionally, I found it hard to believe Adrian asked her to be Dominatrix when she had barely any experience as a Domme and her only experiences with kink up to that point had been sexual. Of course, things go wrong with her first session (draws blood because she’s distracted). There was a lot about Adrian’s character that didn’t work for me and a myriad of consent issues regarding his order of operations, including but not limited to having club members watch new Dominants and submissives to vet for the club without the newbies' knowledge or consent, demanding all club members have tattoos (Moira wasn’t even told beforehand; Kara took her to the shop as a “surprise”), and not giving Moira any information about her clients beforehand and purposely assigning her to one of her former high school students.
The other interesting part—and the reason I was so intrigued— was that Moira learned about BDSM from a male Dom at the start of the book but the endgame pairing was her female best friend Kara. I haven't seen a premise like that before! Moira and Kara needed more negotiation when they started their “friends with benefits”, especially since we later learn . The middle part became a slog of Moira knowing she needs to talk to Kara about their relationship but refusing to do it, even while a rival Domme Tamara has returned and is trying to convince Kara to go away with her. Communication is hard, yes, but these two are supposed to be best friends who have talked about everything so why wouldn’t Kara push to know where she stands and why wouldn’t Moira explain her feelings are evolving? Or even just for Moira to talk about what her sexuality is now—prior to this, she believed she was straight. It became very frustrating to watch Moira get upset about potentially losing Kara and then continually not do anything. And I really didn’t like that the catalyst was
But the kicker for me was the choice to Any enjoyment I had plummeted once I realized the plot was going in this direction and it never overcame this choice for me.
Character notes: Moira is a 31 year old white high school teacher and new Domme. It’s not clear if she’s bi or just in to Kara. Kara is a 31 year old white (bisexual or pansexual) submissive. By the book’s end, they plan to be polyamorous. Adrian is a white (bisexual or pansexual) Cajun BDSM club owner and Dom. This is set in New Orleans.
Content notes: past intimate partner violence; Moira’s boyfriend raped, beat, cut her with a knife, and almost murdered her several years prior (he was never abusive prior to this); flashbacks, nightmares, PTSD, Moira’s ex is in prison for raping and murdering another young woman, references to victim-blaming FMC at his trial, , slut-shaming by ex, infertility due to ex’s attack, on-page sex, D/s, safe word used and respected, vaginal fisting, bondage, submissive sharing, impact play, wax play, FFM menage, anal play, voyeurism, people watch new Dominants and submissives to vet for the club but this is done without their knowledge or consent, draws small amount of blood while whipping a client (against club rules, she was distracted), takes former high school student as client (he was in her class several years ago and is in his early to mid-20s now), alcohol, acephobic line (not natural to not have sex), gender essentialism (largely from villain but there is gender essentialist language throughout), ableis language, FMC is estranged from her father due to his alcoholism and past physical abuse, FMC’s mother died of cancer 7 years ago, use of slave as kink term

I really, really enjoyed this book - and am really looking forward to book 2.
The premise behind the story is good, the execution is excellent and the plot is engaging. I really liked how we see the story unfold; the setting in New Orleans; the accents; the backdrop of mardi gras; and the pomp and ceremony that comes with this world of kink. I felt that the ending was both clever and sexy, and set up the next adventure in BSB very nicely. The friendships were genuine, the characters were hot, sexy and the introduction to kink was done beautifully.
Hugely enjoyable way to spend my time, thank you very much, Ms Montmorency.
When I read the synopsis of this book I was quite excited to read and review this book. The synopsis grabbed me and pulled me in to the dark underground world in New Orleans along with Moira, Kara and the oh so hot Adrian.
The story opens with Moira and Kara having a pity party with movies and ice cream as their guests. This sounds like a regular date for Moira. Kara is the one that knows how to live and enjoy life while Moira is locked up in her apartment. We later learn why her apartment became her security blanket. Kara finally encouraged her to come out with her to a small club. Little does Moira know what Kara's motive really was when she brought her there. Trying to breathe life back into her again.
Kara and Moira have been best friends since the girls were young. Kara has seen Moira through some of life's most difficult tragedies when Moira's family was absent. Kara became her family. Kara became her life and her breath bringing her back to the Moira she was before her nightmares began.
Kara finally gets Moira to go out one night. At the bar Kara takes her to, Moira meets Adrian LaCroix, master of the local underground kink scene, but she doesn't know who he is yet. He is hot, sexy and she is starting to discover feelings she thought were buried away. He elicits warm, wet feelings she is afraid to feel. His sexy Cajun accent his commanding presence intrigue her and help her to find the courage she lost. Adrian has a way of helping her find herself while knowing just what she needs to find happiness. At the same time she struggles with her feelings for her best friend wondering if she will always need to rely on her and not give Kara the friendship in return that Moira has benefited from.
Adrian LaCroix plays a very important role in Kara's and soon Moira's life. Since he is the master of the local underground kink scene, he is well known throughout the city of New Orleans. Adrian has many connections with the locals and takes care of his own. There is no lack of hot BDSM scenes in this story. A few scenes are detailed in a very beautiful way. Adrian introduces Moira to this world, Kara's world, and soon helps Moira find her place there training to be a Domme and later a Domenatrix. He takes Moira on as his protege and helps her mentally and physically escape her demons. Their sex scenes are pretty hot too, seeing who tops who each time.
The story moves at a good pace. Knowing it was about BDSM I wanted to jump right into a scene but realized I lacked the story line and details needed to enjoy the book. My attention stayed throughout the book even causing me to have a "book hangover" the last night until 4:00am. The story was climaxing and I HAD to find out what the result was and how Kara's decision was going to effect Moira.
I loved the character development and the trickling of information about Moira's past. It kept me wanting more and more. The deeper I traveled into the story the more invested I became. Having traveled to New Orleans recently also peeked my interest as some of the sites and activities mentioned in the book were reminiscent of our trip. I almost felt like I could see the characters on the trolley car and walking in the Garden District dressed all fancy to meet Adrian. Oh Adrian.
Cat brought in local dialogue and some french language with Adrian's character. While it was sexy to read, it was complicated to continually copy and paste so I could translate and read what he was saying. I would have loved more translations in his sentences or a guide in the back of the book to the Cajun sayings and their meanings. I am sure what the kindle translator wrote was not at times exactly what Cat meant to say, my mind had to improvise and use the words I think she meant Adrian to say.
I look forward to the next book in the series. I am sure it will be just as hot and steamy as this one. Especially if Adrian is still there enjoying his subs. I am always excited to read a great book from an author I have never met.
This book reminds me of an author I found after 50 Shades and have loved ever since. Another reviewer thought the same as well. I am pleased to say this book, with the kink and dominatrix, reminds me of Tiffany Reisz's Original Sinners Series of books. I hope Cat has the same success with her series of books. They are hot, steamy and will grab you in to meet Adrian, Kara and Moira. Well done!
First off, I want to say what a great opportunity this was to be able to read and review this book. It truly is worth all five bars and then some. This book has everything, love, loss, pain, heartache, drama, depth, etc. Fleur de Nuit is a book that you will not only fall in love with, but it is the type of book that will stick with you forever.
We are met with Moira D'Ardangelis who is still trying to just survive the horrible experience that her ex-boyfriend, Justin, caused her. Still dealing with the deep seated trauma from that has left Moira a shell of the person she was. The one constant that seems to keep her upright and hanging on to what bit of reality and life she has is Kara her best friend.
Kara Deschamps , Moira's best friend has stood by her side through thick and thin. She has been the one thing that has kept Moira moving forward, being the strength that she so desperately needed. What Moira doesn't know is that her best friend has a very secret side to her life, one that she hopes will help pull Moira out of her shell and give her back the life she has lost.
Kara, turns to Adrian LaCroix, the Dom who leads New Orleans underground kink scenes. Adrian knows exactly what Moira needs and begins to show her what she can do to take back the control of her life that she so desperately needs. Not only does he teach Moira, he seems to open her eyes to much more than she would have ever seen or know other wise.
This book grabbed a part of my soul and has taken root. I do not know of any other way to put it. It has been a long time since a book rocked me to my core. This book is so much more than just another BDSM story. This book is all about learning to trust yourself, learning to love, depending on others, and believing in life again. Cat Montmorency has written a book that people from all walks of life can enjoy. Not only has she written a book that can take those who fell inlove with the Fifty Shades phenom, but for those who love a little menage'. Add to this the fact that it is probably one of the best book containing lesbian romance that I have ever read just adds that much more appeal to it.
I can not say enough about how fantastic this book truly is. I can only hope to have the chance to read and review the next book in the Bourbon Street Bondage Series.
Now for a few of my favorite quotes:
"Yes, I want it. All of it. I want the control. I want the sex. I want to stop hiding from life". ~ Moira
"Stop being a drama queen Adrian. You've ordered me around and then fucked me every night for the last two weeks. Sometimes after you watched me beat, order and fuck someone else. Sometimes while I did. Every girl needs a day off." ~ Moira
" I want to be with you, Moira. I want to be yours. But I need to belong. I need to be fought for. And I need to know if you can. I'm sorry, I know this is a shitty thing to do right now, but Mistress Tamara..." ~ Kara.
When losing part of your life, and going through the motions isn’t enough, what is next?
Ever since her college boyfriend tried to add her to his list of murder victims, Moira D’Arcangelis lived a quiet life, which is code for no life at all. When her best friend Kara convinces-okay, drags-her to meet Adrian LaCroix, master of the local underground kink scene, his commanding presence and sexy Cajun accent bring her latent desires back to life. His offer to train her as a Domme is the key to regaining control of her life. Yet becoming Adrian's protégé comes with complications. As he opens her body, mind, and soul, she begins to see Kara in a new light-right about the time a legendary Domme returns, intent on stealing Kara away. Moira has a fight on her hands. For Kara, and against a past that comes roaring back with a vengeance. (Amazon blurb)
Having suffered greatly at the hands of a boyfriend, Moira D’Arcangelis no longer lives and simply goes through the motions of her day to day tasks and responsibilities. Her best friend Kara does her best to help by taking her out and supporting her during the worst times and yet sometimes it’s just not enough. Moira’s situation is relatable – maybe not 100% same situation or same circumstances, but loss of control by the hands of another is difficult if not damaging, especially when taken and not given freely, so her choice and the inclination of being a Domme was not surprising. Anything less would have. Fleur de Nuit is the book that I’d come back over and over again to make sure I haven’t missed anything the previous times I’ve read, to make sure it’s fresh in my mind, to make sure that control is on my side and that if I decide to give up control, it’s on my terms and not someone else’s. For a first novel of Cat Montmorency’s, it hits so close to home, makes such an impact personally, and at the same time is fast becoming a favorite of mine. Had I more time in between reading and reviews or even work, I know Fleur de Nuit would have been opened once again and re-read simply for the pleasure of knowing that maybe everyone, no matter their past, do and can find that special place in life that makes you say and think ‘yup, this is it’.

Well where do I start on this one? What a story. I have read so many erotic novels and romance novels; it takes a lot now days to really be anything original. And Fleur de Nuit is just that, completely an original story. The story follows Moira who has a troubled past and is still working on feeling OK in her own skin, years after her then boyfriend kidnapped her, raped her and attempted to murder her. She has been through a lot and still secludes herself from anyone outside work and her best friend, Kara. Kara and her have known each other since grade school and have always been there for each other. Kara was there for her during everything that happened with Justin and has been trying to get the old Moira back ever since that happened.
Kara finally convinces Moira to go out with her one evening and the end up at an exclusive club in the French Quarter of New Orleans. To Moira’s surprise, Kara has brought her to a BDSM club and set her up with the most attractive and elusive Dom/owner of the club, Adrian. She is thrust into a world of kink she never knew she could be into and finds along the way that someone who has been there for her from the beginning of the pain, just might be what she needs to regain herself.
This book is full of original scenes I haven’t read in any other books, plot twists I didn’t see coming, and a romance that I am so glad to see blossom during the story. The only thing I personally wasn’t fond of, was the authors use of the French language in dialog. I found myself on every page Adrian was a part of, highlighting and using the translator to figure out what he was saying. There was a LOT of French in the book which is hard for a non-fluent reader. Other than that, this was such a good story and I was so glad to see all the trials Moira faced and overcame throughout it.
Moira has been through the wringer and is barely living half a life. Her college boyfriend raped and beat her and had raped/beaten/murdered several other girls. She is the one who got away. Years of therapy later, she is living in New Orleans close to her best friend Kara. Kara introduces Moira to Adrian as a last ditch effort to help her start living again. Adrian is a successful businessman but he is also the Master of Fleur de Nuit, New Orleans underground BDSM community. He offers to train her to be a Domme and her eyes are opened to so many new possibilities including the way that she looks at Kara.
Soooooo, there are some authors that you like, some that you tolerate and then there are some that you just totally fangirl over. It's a good thing that book tours usually don't come close to where I live because this is one author that I would totally embarrass myself and fangirl over. I read A LOT of books on a daily basis, usually 1 to 2 a day because I read that fast and also because of my blog and I had gotten bored with most of the typical humdrum story lines but this one pulled me straight out of my funk. Thank you baby jesus.
These characters seem real to me. You could almost believe you could go to New Orleans and meet them. I'd happily flop down right in the middle of them and fangirl over them too. This book shows the behind the scenes things that can go through a person's head when they do something in BDSM or just sex when something doesn't go exactly as you plan. I am in love with it from start to finish and I want an Adrian of my very own to play with. Safeword? Who needs a safeword? LOL Her past does come back to haunt her but I don't want to focus on that as the rest of the book far out weighs that part.
I don't come across many F/F books that feature BDSM, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to review this one. Initially I found it a bit hard to get into, but after the first couple of chapters I was totally hooked. Honestly I found this book kind of addictive! It's set in a kink club in New Oleans, and the author managed to bring this magical setting alive. It has just enough French words and phrases in it to add to the atmosphere, but not enough to confuse someone who's forgotten 99% of the French that I learnt in high school!
Since being brutally raped and attacked by her boyfriend, Moira has been afraid to live. Her best friend Kara comes up with a madcap plan to help her regain control of her life - train to be a Domme! Moira becomes the protégé of flamboyant Dom Adrian LaCroix and soon finds herself enjoying this strange new lifestyle. She also finally realises that she's in love with Kara. But when Kara's former Domme arrives back on the scene wanting to collar Kara, Moira may have left it too late to discover her feelings.
The storyline is unique with some nice twists that keep you gripped right up to the last page. As you'd expect there are a lot of sex and BDSM scenes in this book - and boy oh boy are they hot! The BDSM scenes are all very well written, varied, imaginative and extremely sexy. I loved both main characters, but I must admit that my favourite character was Adrian - I hope we will be seeing much more of him in future books in the series. This is a fantastic book that receives five out of five stars.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
This book is about learning to move and love yourself. While the books subject is very adult based (i.e. BDSM/Erotica), the story itself is beautiful.
Moira survived a horrendous affair when her ex-boyfriend, kidnapped, raped and almost beat her to death. Now years later, Moira still finds herself hiding from the outside world, friends and life in general. Her best friend Kara has been with her every step of the way. Roommates when the attack happened, Kara has been the one to hold her hand and dry her eyes when the nightmares just wouldn't go away. So after repeatedly turning down invites to go out on the town, Moira finally gives in and lets Kara take her to an exclusive club, only she didn't realize this one club would change her whole life and give her back her freedom she so desperately wants.
If you don't like Erotica, BDSM and very graphic sexual content this book will not be for you. However, if this type of story is in your wheelhouse or your can look past it then I would highly recommend this book. Like I stated earlier the book's story is a beautiful story of starting over, finding love that was always there and learning to move on.
I received an eARC of this book compliments of the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.
I had a hard time with the beginning of this book moving so quick. From never going out to suddenly being a kickass Domme. I wish we could've seen more of the learning process and what helped her become a much stronger woman. Then there was Adrian. I actually liked his character for the most part... except the Cajun and French blended in randomly (distractingly and annoyingly so).
I thought the plotline was good, but felt like this could've really been split into three parts. The part where Moira learns to be a Domme and learn to come out of her self imposed prison, where we all fall in love with Kara and the parts with Tamara and the surprise. It really felt like there were 3 different parts and the parts between dragged on when it came to passing.
Overall, it was a good book, I really liked the Domme aspects and getting to see her stop letting fear hold her back, but I would've liked to really see more development with her as a character. The naughty scenes also felt... emotionless. :(

Trigger Warnings: sexual assault, abuse, mc has PTSD
Wow, this book was so good.
I've been reading more romance this year but almost nothing about BDSM, and definitely not sapphic BDSM. I'm so glad that Fleur de Nuit was my first book.
Moira has been living a very quiet life recovering from trauma. Until her best friend, Kara, takes her to Adrian. He offers Moira to train her as a Domme to conquer her fears and pain, and Moira accepts.
This is why I'm glad to have read Fleur de Nuit as a start, I don't have any idea about BDSM and the story is very introductory. Moira doesn't know and like me, she wants to understand. So reader and protagonist learn from Adrian what it really means to be a Domme. The book goes through some of the misconceptions and explains why those ideas are not true.
Moira's journey is heartwarming, she has gone through so much and now she deserves all the happiness. She gains confidence embracing power and starts enjoying herself. She also realizes that she is in love with Kara.
I love friends to lovers, it's always a sweet and cute trope. Yes, Moira and Kara are sweet and cute, plus they have a Domme-Sub relationship. Their friendship is lovely and they navigating their new feelings is so beautiful.
I liked Fleur de Nuit a lot. I wouldn't call it a fun book, only because there are discussions about sexual assault and violence, but it has very funny moments that made me laughed so hard. Moira realizes not only she is a Domme, but that she is also bisexual. It's a very heartwarming story, I'm definitely checking out other books by the author.
Copy received through the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a new feel for me. See the book is about a woman who goes through a tradition. From being the submissive abused woman and transitioning to becoming a Domme. Like I said in the beginning that this a a toilet new read for me. I've always read about alpha male's being the Dom. so this was a first. Moira is in a bad place in her life. She is a victim in an abusive relationship. Her psycho ex abducts her and tries to kill her. Her best friend Kara, moves down to the Big Easy, Kara finally convinces Moira to join her in the BDSM club she attend's her with being a submissive. For Moira to try something new. She needed to start to live her life by her own terms. Then we meet Adrian, at Fleur De Nuit who was in charge of the club. He agrees to train Moira who is a Domme wanting to come out all she needs is Adrain's guiding hand. This took me by surprise. Being a first to me I liked it. It was a very original. Adrian speaking french, talk about hot!
ARC was provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I had somehow stumbled upon this book as it was in a friend's list that I had totally, blatantly, unashamedly read while she left her notebook open on the page "Want to read".
Well-written and a surprise. I'm usually not one to read F/F erotica, but this grabbed me. Mercifully, thankfully, this was not written in the first person.
Pacing of the story was good and details were excellent without being extraneous.
I will give no summary because you can read it above in the book description.
My only complaint is that I found the French dialogue a bit taxing. Almost a bit too Franglais for me. It didn't detract from the story, but the need to do French/Cajun French wore a bit thin 100 pages into the book. Other than that, this a book I'd recommend to certain friends.
I look forward to seeing what else the author has in store for us.
**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**
Moira wants to take her life back, be the person she used to be. When her best friend Kara convinces her to go to the BDSM club and she meets Adian, a Domm willing to train her. She knows she's found what she's been missing especially when she realizes it comes in the form of her best friend.
The author combines the erotic nature of BDSM with the sexy and sweet of friendship between Kara and Moira. Then you add in Adian and this story really takes off.
* I received an advanced copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review. *
There were several things that I really didn't like here (the poor pacing at the beginning, and Adrian's over-the-top French characterization), and I probably could have done without the actual bondage part. I love BDSM in romance novels, especially when it's well done, but it felt like a gimmick here. Still, Moira's emotional relationships with the various characters, especially Kara and Landry, were really exceptional.
Dripping with sensuality, this book has all the sultry heat of New Orleans itself. Cat Montmorency is an author to watch--if you're into intelligent erotica, accurate BDSM, and HEAT. Moira's journey was poignant, interesting, and emotional without being overwrought. Montmorency handles the emotional issues with tact, depth, and a firm hand on the crop! Bonus: It's F/f. <3
poor development all around. no character development and the pacing of the story was all wrong. because of these facts the story was unbelievable. needs better editing and the writing was just meh.
See Rachel Orman's review - we had many of the same issues. I went 2 stars instead of 3 because I live in New Orleans, and incorrect geography and details really bother me.
