Landry’s life has always been about doing her duty and giving it her all, and when they have to stop a deranged serial killer in the past, she tries to stay focused. But now, with Jade Carter always on her mind, her worry about Delaney’s mental welfare, and her attempt to have a normal life, things feel more complex than ever before.
Plagued by nightmares and memories of the woman she left behind in Nazi Germany, Delaney knows things have to change, and she’s the one to make it happen. But making those changes may mean she loses Landry forever. When she sets her plans in motion during their mission, she has no idea how it will end. Will their differences demand the ultimate sacrifice?
Robyn Nyx is an avid shutterbug and lover of all things fast and physical. Her writing often reflects both of those passions. She lives with her soul mate and fellow scribe. They have no kids or kittens, which allows them to travel to exotic places at the drop of a hat for “research.” She works hard to find writing time, when she’s not being distracted by blue skies and motorbike rides.
I have been waiting for this book ever since I finished Escape In Time. When I saw it on netgalley I knew I needed to have it. It was literally burning with desire. I loved the first book so much. Yes, I know, could a sequel be as good? Was I disillusioning myself into thinking yes? Well my likeness of this author is seriously being tested as we speak. Robyn how could you do this to me a second time? O.M.G. I am at a loss.
If I could give this 20 stars it still wouldn't be enough. This story was left on a knifes edge and again I find myself swearing at the author. I am absolutely certain I don't want to meet her as I worry what I will say. Hell, I'll say it now .... How could you do this a second time? Yes. and now I am repeating myself. What is really scary is how I wish I found this author later and been able to read the series uninterrupted. There I go wishing my life away for a book. Yes I hear you sniggering. But honestly I have never had a series grip me so hard that all I want is book 3.
The book is about time travel and how saving people in the past can have the future made even better. So yes, the genre is right up my street. I love science fiction with a passion. And this book has it in droves. Although I am against Pulsus reasons for not sharing I do admit to understanding why. It has everything you could want. Action, adventure, discovery, deceit and yes some sex.
My advice is that this is a must read. Even if you aren't keen on science fiction. Me? I am going to go hide under my duvet until book three is out. I will probably read both books again in anticipation for the next. So, please Robyn please don't take too long you need to think of my mental health. Enjoy! I did very much so.
I didn’t think it was possible to top the first in the Extractor Series by Robyn Nyx but I was wrong. ‘Change in Time’ is exciting, tense, romantic and sexy. The story centres around Landry, an Extractor for Pulsus, an organisation that sends teams back in time to change one small incident and improve the future. We saw the toll that can take on individual team members in the first book. In this instalment the consequences for Landry and for Pulsus become more serious.
Robyn Nyx has delved further into the characters emotions and their motivations. I liked seeing how Landry’s relationship with Jade changes her and makes her consider her actions more. Delaney’s mental state and how it affects the whole mission is nail-biting. The dynamic between Elena, Landry’s mother and the Pulsus boss, Jenkin, was fascinating and gave a depth to the whole backstory for me. The book was excellent and the author has left me desperate for more. I can’t wait for part 3!
I was given this ARC by Bold Strokes Books and Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I got this book free on Netgalley. It is too violent, too much gratuitous needless sex just unreadable in my opinion it's written in a very peculiar style. I read maybe 1/3 decided life's too short and switched to a good book instead.
*The following commentary applies to ALL 3 Books, "Escape in Time," (Book 1) "Change in Time," (Book 2) and "Death in Time" (Book 3) in The Extractor Trilogy.*
I finally decided to dive into Robyn Nyx's much-talked-about The Extractor Trilogy after contemplating for much too long because.... Time travel. Yes, I have a complicated relationship with this subject matter in fiction, be it in books or on-screen, for the longest time. I read a lot of non-fiction science books, in particular, those related to quantum physics/mechanics and its subsets, the many theories and hypotheses, mathematical proofs. Obviously, the most popular question when dealing with this highly debated subject matter has always been time travel. But I'd been let down previously because they all ended up using the same old, tired "Back to the Future" method which I can't accept in me head! I've been searching for a good time travel book in fiction that at least tries to venture into a more updated, more probable theory, specifically in quantum physics that relates to current hot topics amongst the science/astrophysics community, i.e. multiverse/parallel universes, string theory, quantum entanglement, etc. Nyx's Trilogy sounded, based on its blurbs, very intriguing and me curiosity was definitely piqued when I first found out about it. I resisted. But I kept going back to read the reviews on GR. Highly rated and reviewed but none of them touched on the "science" part of time travel in the books. So I was still wary of disappointment yet again. Then one day, for no reason at all, I just felt compelled to read The Extractor Trilogy. So I followed me instincts. Thank Christ I did because...let's just say, I ended up binge-reading all three of them at lightning speed! It was absolutely a bloody THRILL to ride the journey! The methodology of Nyx's time travel, whilst still clinging to the way that cannot beat the grandfather's paradox, but did expand into something like the multiverse theory (albeit only indicated, at least in me own interpretation, not mentioned directly) and a couple of possibilities that I could accept on face value so in the end, I could forego some others, which "troubled" me, (I know, I'm one crazy nerd!) through a bit of suspension of disbelief on me part. This made me reading experience infinitely more exciting and fun (because I didn't have to reject the notion every 5 minutes like I used to when I read the others that let me down!).
The Extractor Trilogy, comprised of "Escape in Time" (Book 1), "Change in Time" (Book 2) and "Death in Time" (Book 3), is about a group of time travellers trained by a highly secretive, non-governmental private organisation, Pulsus, to go back in time to change specific events in order to influence the future (the present time depicted in the books) by neutralising or moving the person(s) responsible. Each "jump" is usually led by 2 teams: first team comprising of Operatives (responsible for scouting the targets locales and establishing positions before the 2nd team arrives, which takes a bit of time with every mission, days/weeks/months or even years) and the 2nd team led by an Extractor, charged with the mission of neutralising/moving the human target(s).
The Extractor Trilogy is one EPIC story spanning all 3 books. I see it as a 3-act story structure, so to speak - Act I = "Escape"; Act II = "Change," and finally Act III = "Death."
Escape -- Change -- Death
Beautiful and poetic, innit? (well, you'll see what I mean when you read the entire series)
After reading Escape In Time, I wasn’t sure what I could expect from the rest of the series but this was more than I could have imagined. I am absolutely fascinated with the imagination this series must take to create. Change In Time was exciting, an absolute thrill of a read, but has left me a little conflicted. I know humans can be some of the most heinous beings on this planet, but the way Robyn Nyx captures that evil and delivers it to us is spine chilling.
It takes talent to get into a mind-set of these strong, female characters that Robyn Nyx creates, and to really delve into their emotions, and thoughts – no matter how dark or wayward. That goes for villainous characters too. People like this really exist in our world, and accurate representations of the cruelty, and twisted ways of those who are truly evil can’t be easy to write about and portray realistically. Yet Robyn delivers us with very realistic imagery, really getting into your emotions to drive you to feel strong emotion towards all of her characters, and their actions.
The consequences of Pulsus mission in this story are going to be high, especially when the unexpected starts to emerge and throw Landry’s focus. What I adored most was the vulnerability of Landry that has become more apparent, and the emotion conflict not only she suffers, but also of her fellow colleagues and friends. Much is changing in her life and so much is yet to be discovered.
Reading this second instalment has set me up with the excitement to read the third book in the series, and I am desperate to know what the future now holds in store for Landry, and Delaney. Despite their work, we have been reminded just how human they are, and that no one – no matter how tough they are, can allude emotions, or love.
I was gripped reading this, and although at moments I was questioning the sanity of some of the characters, I genuinely couldn’t put the book down. Addicted is the only way to describe it (what that says about my own dark, twisted thoughts, I don’t know!) but something just pulls me into the pages and won’t let me back out until I have finished devouring every word.
I can highly recommend this series, also one of my favourites, and I now just can’t wait for book three, because I need answers!!!
The second book in the Extractor Series had a change in tempo for me. Whilst the book still had the same level of sexiness and tension, i didn't find it quite as exciting and fast paced as the first book BUT and it's a big BUT i still really enjoyed it. So much so i may read read the first and second books again before moving onto book three!
That all sounds rather contradictory but all credit to Robyn for being able to write and plot so well. Book 2 is like most books/films that aren't standalone....it's the 'middle' book and usually a majority of people loose interest in the middle of a series, because it doesn't hold the same thrill level as the beginning and the end. However Robyn transitions beautifully from the excitement of meeting new characters and a new world in Book 1 to a more in-depth discovery of these characters and they way they think, feel and connect.
Landry and Delaney's friendship gets pushed to the limit in Book 2 and this theme of friendship and boundaries is well explored. Similarly there's the question of how far will Landry go for love and will she actually allow herself to fall in love?
The inner workings and development of the key characters is so much greater in this book, that whilst the action may have slowed slightly, the book still moves forward and the reader still feels like the story is building to it's end. There is so much explored in book 2 character wise that i'm sure re reading book 1 would reveal things missed the first time around in the haste to finish it.
Robyn certainly shows her writing talents off in this book and the ability to keep the attention of her readers. Without a doubt this book whilst different from the 1st is far from the 'middle fluff filler' book one can sometimes expect. Buy it, read it, reread it, you won't regret it.
*Another author that sneaks onto the back/future read list!
This is the second in the series and most likely a nice bridge between the first and third books, but as a stand-alone story it isn’t very strong.
It continues the time traveling missions of Delaney and Donovan, but spends far too much time on the cliffhanger ending from the first book and the consequences of Landry’s actions.
The new relationship between Landry and Jade is very strained, but I don’t feel the dialogue nor the actions of the two characters is done very well here and doesn’t do much to convey that strain.
Landry does a 180 with the way she has been treating her mom for years in the span of a few sentences. That is something one would need more time to work out.
Honestly, this book took me two tries to get through. The first time was when it first came out and I couldn’t even get through half of it. I put it down and didn’t bother to give it another go until now that book three is available. I still struggled with it, but made it through this time. I didn’t want to jump on book three without having read book two.
If you are going to read this book, I highly recommend that you read book one first to get a handle on the characters better.
I was given a review copy from the publisher for my honest review of the book as seen above. I didn’t hate the book, but overall it is lacking.
No matter what book RJ Nyx writes you can guarantee it will be a page turner!
The second book in this trilogy kept me turning pages long into the night. Another mission for Landry, Foster, and Simson as the MC’s again throughout this book.
This time, the plans have changed and what Landry and the rest of them go through is emotional and sometimes heart wrenching. Simson is the only one who is unaffected by what happens and almost appears sadistic with the human race.
Landry has a lot on her mind having left her girlfriend behind and feels like she’s getting soft when her mind starts thinking about her. A lot has transpired in that relationship and Landry must keep her mind on this mission and not get distracted.
Foster has plans of her own and when Landry finds out about them, she is concerned about the mission failing. Throw in a serial killer and you have a page turner!
You have a book that keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next and as with the first book in the trilogy, you are left with another cliff hanger.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I wanted to give this book 3 ½ stars and rounded up. I liked the story and the time traveling was interesting. The characters were well developed and their relationships were genuine. Landry and Jade had some chemistry - I wouldn’t say there were sparks coming off the pages but their relationship was believable. My main complaint is that the book felt too long and drawn out which made it a bit boring at times. I don’t think that it is too violent and graphic as some other reviewers said but it has some violence in it.
So excited to get my hands on a copy of the next book in the Extractor series and it didn't disappoint!
'Change in Time' is another example of the imaginative and well-thought-out writings of this up and coming author. Robyn Nyx always manages to achieve an excellent balance of intricate and exciting plot line and character development within her story.
Can't wait to see where the story will lead us in the next book.
After reading 'Escape in Time' the first book in the Extractor series I was thrilled to get my hands on the next episode to see how the story unfolds.
Time travel is such a fascinating and intricate subject matter, combine that with the human condition and the chemistry of love and desire and you have a recipe for the perfect roller-coaster ride. Robyn Nyx has hit the nail on the head keeping me reading until the end and desperate to know what will happen next in this awesome trilogy.
After reading the first book in the series (in one sitting) and absolutely falling in love with Nyx's story world, I bought the second instalment, Change in Time, which I managed to pace out over two days.
I continued to enjoy the time travel element of the series, and the subtle nods at historical events were very well done.
This is a series you definitely can't put down, especially now that the stakes keep rising! Robyn, I'll be getting Book 3 ASAP :)
I love time travel and the second book in Robyn Nyx's Extractor trilogy certainly didn't disappoint me. It's pacy, engaging and unputdownable. I loved the new characters, particularly Sledge. I'd like to think she could be a goodie...but I get it wrong so many times! Hope she's in the final book. I've been saving this for my hols. and the suspense is killing me!
