"There is something about Angelo that brings us here..."
Ramón. John. Huey. Aiden. Within the span of 300 years, four larger-than-life men unexpectedly find themselves in the small town of Angelo. While adjusting to their new surroundings and impacting the lives of those around them, the bizarre truth of their predicament is gradually revealed.
'Angelo, Texas' is the first of a three-volume Paranormal Romance saga, followed by 'A Good and Fair Trade' and 'Angelo II'.
I spend my free time reading, drawing, and daydreaming. My daydreams, which are spun from actual history and mythology from around the world, ignite the fires of my imagination for my stories and artwork. I plan on creating a few illustrations of my book characters for an Angelo, Texas compendium in the future. I have a B. A. in a discipline that I've never really used, and an affinity for cats. Okay… I also like dogs, but I'm more of a cat lady. Drinking too much coffee, but not enough Japanese plum wine, I feel the need to correct the imbalance. With that, feel free to call me Mo.
The scope of this book reminded me of one of my favorite angel books, Fallen Angel. Its four books take place over the course of nearly three hundred years, each one focusing on a different fallen angel. I really liked the historical aspects, including phrases in various languages, some of which couldn't have been easy to translate. Each time period felt authentic, although I think the first one was the most detailed.
I wish there had been more biblical lore throughout the book, just to give us a better idea of the angels' background and what they were dealing with. I also wanted the angels to have more varied personalities—they were all too similar and too nice for my deranged self.
I will be reading the sequel, as I'm interested to see how it might have changed since I beta read for it. And now that I have the background story of the angels, I'll be able to view it from a better perspective.
The author is a friend of mine, but this has no bearing on my rating.
An entertaining, engaging novel, with a broad historical sweep and an uncanny mixture of genres, including romance, gothic (vampires), historical. The writing is strong and vivid. The book is in many respects one immersed in the complicated intertwining of cultures and ethnicities in the American Southwest. I really enjoyed it.
This is one seriously weird book, and I like it. Funny that the blurb states it spans 300 years but by my math it was more like 500 since the story begins in 1531 and extends to 2016. But no matter, there are many, many strange things going on in here. Angels kicked out of the heavenly realm by Archangel Michael fall to earth in Angelo, Texas (get it?) for impregnating human females. The fallen angels are the good guys while Michael is evil. To make matters more interesting, the fallen angels need to suck blood to survive and their spawn are the original vampires! Pretty wild stuff and very entertaining.
ANGELO, TEXAS is a dark paranormal angel romance set in the American Southwest that spans five centuries from the 1500’s to present day. Four fallen angels are sent to earth as punishment for interfering and have their wings cut off by the Archangel Michael and we read their stories in four separate books where they encounter humans in Angelo, Texas at different points in history. The author did an outstanding job of incorporating historical details of each time period into the four books. The first book (Carlota and Ramon and Padre Benitez) was incredibly detailed and had the Spanish mission and also people of various backgrounds (Dutch, Native, Canary Islands) and this made for a rich and well detailed read. I also really enjoyed the interesting twist with the angels drinking blood and how this connected later to vampirism. The telepathic connection to the humans they encountered was written well. Joann’s story in the 1880’s was another one I especially enjoyed. Who doesn’t have an annoying little brother that follows you around everywhere? 😊 The romance elements of the book were well written and this book has a high spice level for those who enjoy that sort of read. I especially loved JoAnn’s romance with her angel and their love scenes. Angelo, Texas is an excellent steamy historical paranormal romance with angels/vampires that I would highly recommend. 5/5 stars
Angelo, Texas, is the story of four fallen angels - Ramon, Joey, Huey, and Aiden - who land on earth in the town of Angelo, Texas. In order to survive, they must drink blood. Each of the four angels appear at different times over the course of five hundred or so years. By structuring the story this way, Hopkins gives the reader historical background of the area during those times. Living in the American Southwest myself, I enjoyed the first part which took place during the time of the Spanish missionaries. I think we Americans sometimes forget how rich the history is in this country. Angelo, Texas, is a multi-faceted story that covers multiple genres - historical fiction, romance, vampires, and angels. It’s a book that anyone interested in any of these areas should find interesting.
