I am an unapologetic romance lover. I read it. I write it. Enough said. Well..I also have a warrior way "Never give up on my dreams." I spend a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from Walking Dead, watching Japanese anime and playing video games with my love, Dusean.

DNF @20%. I’m annoyed enough to rate this.
This is only a 160 page book but the writing is so contradictory and repetitive; nothing is happening except going round and round in this heroine’s head. She says she had an amiable marriage and then she goes on to outline all the shitty stuff her old-man husband did to her. And then she goes back to reminisce about how she misses marital intimacy and then laments that she isn’t the passionate sort and didn’t feel anything in bed… make up your mind! Also this is so slow getting started for such a short book. I’m sick of hearing about her dead husband, get to the story.
Plus the language is annoying and fancy, the author is trying too hard and I am not drawn into the narrative. I keep rolling my eyes at the fancy pants phrasing AND I’M A HUGE FANCY PANTS!

When you want to smack the characters and tell them to shut the hell up, it’s time to bail.

I love Stacy Reid’s writing so much, and her audios are fantastic. This was another steamy historical romance I loved! It has a single mother, Duchess heroine and a wealthy but untitled hero who’s into some shady stuff for work. Their affair is HOT and I love how Rhys is completely head over heels for Georgiana. He’s the type to literally kill for his woman, which is pretty on point from Stacy Reid. Onto the next book, which is a marriage in trouble!!!

This book was so good in the beginning. Georgiana is a widow and only 26, so she is looking for a man to have an affair with. When she needs to figure out what happened to a maid that disappeared, Rhy's name is brought up as a man who knows society's secrets and can solve any mystery. Rhys and Georgiana are instantly attracted and start a passionate affair.

The romance was definitely steamy and also complicated because Georgiana is a respected duchess who must keep up appearances. Rhys isn't from high society, so they cannot let anyone know about their relationship. Like I said, the beginning was great, but halfway through the book did hit a lull and one of my least favorite tropes was used as the final conflict at the end to test the relationship. I wasn't all that invested in the story anymore and didn't really care to see how they would get their HEA. So while it had a strong and engaging start, the ending didn't hold my attention.

4 1/2 steamy stars

I am a big fan of ALL of Stacy Reid's HRs - she delivers my must haves in a good book every time: likeable mcs, a storyline that keeps me glued to the end, and steamy goodness galore! This book was no exception!

The Duchess of Hardcastle, widow Georgiana Rutherford, is lonely. She was widowed 3+ years ago as she married an older man in an arrangement made by her family to align their already blue blood with the even richer blue blood of a duke. Informed of this union at age 13, Georgiana gave up any girlish romantic dreams as she was dedicated 24/7/365 to learning how to be a duchess from that time until she wed at age 16. Though she cared for her husband and he was kind to her, he turned to mistresses for his sexual needs as his wife was there simply to provide an heir and a spare; as such, he visited her once a month during the 3rd week of the month for the first 3 years of their marriage until she conceived the heir: Nicholas. For Georgiana, her son is her world and the best thing about her union with the duke, because even though she offered to play the role of his mistress, she was shut down and told she was not passionate enough. Now that she has shed her widow weeds (and then some), she is being encouraged by her friends (and even her brother!) to pursue a gentleman lover and live a little. And though she is interested in the prospect, perhaps her late husband was correct - she must be cold if she does not feel any sparks with any of the handsome prospects available.

Rhys Tremayne, known as "The Broker," is a "mutt" according to society. Though his mother was the daughter of a viscount once betrothed to an earl, her father sold her to an Irish merchant when he was in need of funds, and she suffered significant abuse by that husband to the extent that she fled him when Rhys was 12, his older sister 4, and when she was pregnant (with what turned out to be twin daughters). Though his mother begged her recently minted viscount brother to take her in, he refused, and the family had to made do in The Stews. Rhys went to work on the docks and learned the value of secrets; thus, he was able to make money to get his family out of the slums and into Mayfair where they are all happily ensconced, each of his sisters heiresses as a result of his fortune. But the one thing Rhys cannot give them is respectability; thus, he is seeking a higher societal connection. He has many politicians and lords in his debt, but having links to a duke would be ideal. And then he gets a request for assistance from the Duchess of Hardcastle, which he sees as his sisters' in if she were to sponsor their debuts. But when he meets the dowager duchess that he expected to be an older lady, he is stunned to realize not only is she young, but she is extremely attractive, and their spark is immediate.

Georgiana needs help, and the only person that can help her is The Broker. When she meets this mysterious man and realizes he is only in his early thirties, despite being in "business" for 20 years, she is stunned. And then when she speaks with him and touches him, he awakens something she thought she would never find. But he is not a member of the ton, and since she has spent her life preparing to be and now serving in the role of the ideal duchess, she cannot possibly carry on an affair with someone so reviled in polite society. But can she resist his charms? And if they do become lovers, can the relationship be purely based on mutual sexual desire? Otherwise, things could get messy indeed.

What I liked:
--- The main characters were opposites yet similar when it came down to it (loyalty, morality, etc.) which made them perfect for each other
--- Plot was fast-moving
--- Found the eldest of the sisters' story interesting - hope she gets her own story
--- Oh the steamy goodness!

What I didn't like as much:
--- Quick "mystery" without much build-up (definitely not central to the plot other than to connect the mcs)

Overall, a wonderful read from a favorite author that I am certain to revisit in the future.

Plot --- 4.5/5
Main Characters --- 4.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 4.5/5
Steam Level* --- 4/5
Violence --- nothing graphic
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! ; 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

I'm so pleased to introduce you guys to Rhys Tremayne and the Duchess of Hardcastle. I dreamt their story and was so excited about the possibilities. I babbled for days about my dream until my hubby said, "Babes, go write their story." So I did. I hope you enjoy reading about Rhys and Georgiana as much as I loved writing their journey to happy ever after.

Thank God for dreams :)

5 Stars on a re-read! I am on a bit of a Stacy Reid roll

Quick Review
- I love anything that Stacy Reid writes. She has such a way with words, and her stories are compelling, very emotional, and always romantic.
- This social divide, scandalous affair story was wonderful. It touched on the subtle nuances of the class difference without getting annoying.
- I enjoyed Rhys and Georgiana. They were very cute together. There was a weird dignity to their affair and the love that came of it.
- Great chemistry, amazing steam, some drama, some humour, a little plot twist, a little misunderstanding, some grovelling, some wooing, and voíla - a beautiful story.

My Recommendation
Brilliant piece of writing. Ms Reid never disappoints 💕

Georgiana is a dowager duchess with a 6 year old son. She has been a widow for a few years and she's very lonely.

Rhys has been trying to claw his way into the aristocracy so that his sisters can have the life that he thinks they deserve. He gathers secrets in order to get favors from powerful people.

I didn't care for this book. It's not that the book is BAD, the story just didn't hold my interest and the romance didn't click for me.

I tried to read it three separate times over the past few months. I finally finished it as an audiobook, even though I didn't like the narrator very much.

4.5 stars. I loved it. The audiobook version was very well done & worth listening to.

The heroine, Georgiana, is a young widowed duchess. She has always lived her life according to what was expected of her, with utmost propriety. Her life revolves mostly around managing her 6y/o son’s (who’s now the Duke) estate...but she had grown increasingly lonely after being widowed for 5 years. She went back into society, clearly unhappy, and was urged by all to either find a discreet lover or remarry. Ofc, no one expected her to choose Rhys, the hero. Rhys isn’t welcome in the ton’s elite circles, but many use his services for the knowledge he possesses. He is a procurer of secrets and uses what he learns to gain favors from those who use his services. Georgiana and Rhys are drawn to one another and eventually begin an affair. But when their feelings become entangled, the reality of their situation becomes difficult to deal with. The reaction of the ton is Georgiana’s primary concern... since the life of her son and family would all be affected.

Georgiana felt a little cold and robotic at times, but I found her reactions believable considering how she was raised. Rhys, to me, is the perfect hero... always so loyal, strong, and selfless when it came to his family and Georgiana. He stayed true to Georgiana even when she was awful to him. He fought for what he wanted and always accomplished his goals. I love this couple together! 💕

Safety is good... the heroine is courted by OM and he does kiss her a few times, but nothing more. H stays totally true to heroine for the entire book.

***I received this arc courtesy of Netgallery in exchange for an honest review.***

This author is a hit or miss for me and I'm pleasantly surprised I enjoyed this one. Although this was more smut than actual story, it was still interesting to read.

Georgina is in need of an investigator, she tries to find her nursemaid that has vanished into nowhere, she has tried other investigators and no one can find anything until her brother suggests Rhys, The Broker of information. They meet and their chemistry is instantaneous. He ferrets out the her maid's whereabouts and goes on his way.

At this point I did wonder what direction the book was going to take, seeing as he there was no other need for his services but she needed him again when her son gets kidnapped. Again he is able to find her son even after the bow street runners could find nothing and he did it in such a way that there should have been some consequences.

As much as I enjoyed this book I think more should have been done, especially with Rhy's character, I didn't really buy that he could do whatever it is he wanted and that he had that many connections and yet still had to wait for Georgina to set all his plans in motion but yet was able to get a in the span of a week.

I enjoyed the secondary characters and I do hope they get their story.

Giorgiana Rutherford, Duchess of Hardcastle, is desperately seeking help in locating her son’s missing nursemaid. She will do anything to find answers to her questions. When she meets Rhys Tremayne and enters into an agreement for his services, she is all too aware that the cost may be a high one. But there is a small, lonely part of her that longs to pay whatever that price may be.

Rhys, better known as The Broker in the underground world he moves in, is immediately taken with the beautiful woman he spies at a ball. When he discovers she is the person seeking his services he is all too willing to assist her. However, once he uncovers the information she desires he surprises her when he tells her the cost.

This couple, two individuals who long for more but are unaware how or even if they will ever find it, have instant chemistry. Their story flowed organically, each scenario being the only thing that could possibly happen.

I was impressed with Rhys’ honor and strength when it came to those he loved. While I did get a bit aggravated at Giorgiana’s continued pushing away due to her social status, she was an independent woman who had found her place at a time when women were nothing more than a bargaining chip. A lifetime of being groomed for her role seemed to be a part of her very DNA.

I really enjoyed this book and especially Rhys and his dark ways. It is a fast paced read with awesome secondary characters that I hope will receive their own stories. Ms. Reid has a way of spinning her tales that pull you in and keep you engaged.

“I will lay the world at your feet” This book surprised me due to the amount of steam. The chemistry between the mains and the scorching hotness made the hairs on my arm raise. I absolutely loved it and the illicitness of it. This was my first Stacy Reid book and it definitely will not be my last. The final chapter of this book made me want to stand up and shout!

My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin

Duchess by Day, Mistress by Night is sensual, interesting, and completely captivating. Stacy Reid has a way of wrapping you up in her writing, which made it really, really, really difficult to put Rhys and Georgiana’s story down.

Rhys is known to one and all as “The Broker.” He’s a man who deals in secrets, all so that he can make a life for his family and give his mother and sisters the life they deserve. Though he’s accumulated wealth and power, the one place Rhys hasn’t been able to infiltrate is the social whirl of the ton. Georgiana is the key to getting his sisters into society, but he finds that he cannot use her as a pawn, not when he’s drawn to her like no other. I absolutely loved Rhys. He’s worked and fought his way up the ladder for the sake of his family. He’s tough, but with a loving heart, and he’s got a quick and canny mind that I found incredibly appealing. Even though he deals in secrets and favors, Rhys has a strong sense of honor. Add in a few hidden pockets of vulnerability and the fact that he’s unbelievably sexy and you’ve got one heck of a swoon-worthy hero.

A hero as confident as Rhys deserves a heroine who can knock him a bit off his stride, and Georgiana fits the bill perfectly. She’s been raised all her life to be a proper duchess and now that she’s a widow with a young son, she continues to fulfill the role her parents and late husband set out for her. But Georgiana is unbelievably lonely, even though she’s the darling of society. Rhys is the first man to see behind the mask, to make Georgiana feel completely alive. The pull between them is so strong that she risks everything to engage in a clandestine affair with Rhys. But it’s clear to readers from the start that these two were meant for so much more than a few heated encounters. Rhys and Georgiana have searingly hot passion going for them, but they fit extremely well outside the bedchamber as well. Ms. Reid made the pages of Duchess by Day, Mistress by Night come alive with their chemistry and I loved getting lost in their romance. The divide in Rhys and Georgiana’s social classes is a huge obstacle in their love story and I liked that I really didn’t know how they would get their happily ever after. I won’t say how things work out, but Ms. Reid definitely did leave me smiling by the end of this book.

Duchess by Day, Mistress by Night is the first book in Ms. Reid’s Rebellious Desires series and I absolutely cannot wait for more. From Rhys’s sisters to his best friend, there are a number of characters whose stories I am hoping will be told. If you like engaging, emotional historical romances with a healthy dose of heat, then you won’t want to miss Duchess by Day, Mistress by Night !

Re read got past the snobbery just a tiny bit. Bumped it up.
Loved the H. Plot 7(1-10) steaminess top shelf.

This book would have been amazing if not for the snobbery!!! It was horrible and not by just one character but many.
The streaminess of this book was a Ten, best I have read but the snobbery was such a turn off.

4 stelline pienissime.

Well, Stacy Reid is quickly becoming a favorite.

I loved Georgiana and Rhys. They’re both good, loyal people, who both want happiness. It’s definitely amusing to see their relationship evolve from business to lovers to friends to more. I loved seeing Rhys fiercely protect those he loves and dote on his sisters. And Georgiana was delightful with her son and when standing up for herself.

Plot wise, it was good. I always love seeing the change in the gruff, cold Hero when his love interest is in danger and he snaps. Rhys was perfection. Of course there’s a bit of angst when it comes to society, but the break up goes by quickly, the ending is fantastic, and the epilogue was everything I could have wanted.

Overall, it was a quick and super enjoyable read. I can’t wait to start the next book.

After finishing the book and mulling it over, I upped my rating to a 4.5, rounded up.

I really enjoyed this book, Georgiana and Rhys are both extremely likable characters.

Georgiana is the widowed Duchess of Hardcastle, she is admired by the ton, a patron of the arts, a loving and devoted mother to her young son and she is restless. She is being pressured by her family to remarry, but what she longs for is passion. When a nursemaid in her employ disappears without a trace and all her efforts to find the woman fail, Georgiana is introduced to Rhys Tremayne, "The Broker". Georgiana is immediately attracted to Rhys, but an affair with him would mean social ruin for not only her, but her family and her young son.

Rhys is a self made man, he has clawed his way up from the gutters and collects secrets which he uses to barter for favors - he is sort of the regency era "Godfather". He has used his talent to build a fortune and owns several profitable businesses. He has the wealth and the power to topple governments, but he doesn't have what he wants the most - the ability to introduce his sisters to the ton. When he meets Georgiana for the first time, he is stunned by his reaction to her, he wants her more than anything he has ever wanted in his life, but she is so far out of his social realm that he knows that there could never be anything between them. He helps her find her missing nursemaid and asks for nothing in return.

Weeks later Georgiana is in need of Rhys' help again, but this time he does ask for a favor. He asks Georgiana to sponsor his sister and she readily agrees. They finally give into the barely contained attraction between them and begin a scorching HOT love affair. They are extremely discreet, but when there is a caricature in the papers implying Georgiana and Rhys are involved, she backs away from him - but she can't seem to let him go.

When Rhys confronts her and learns a secret about her, he asks her to marry him, shocking both of them. Georgiana turns him down, afraid of what society will do to both of them and their families and they end their affair.

Weeks pass and Georgiana decides that she is willing to face the censure of the ton, if it means she can be with Rhys - but it appears that Rhys has moved on. Can these two have a HEA? You will have to read the book to find out.

I thought this was one of the best books I have read by this author, it is well written, flows perfectly, has super HOT love scenes, wonderful secondary characters, believable obstacles keeping our lovers apart and finally a sigh worthy ending. Ms. Reid has come a long way in her accuracy of titles and formal address, but there were still a few mistakes in the book and I didn't 100% buy that the ton would so willingly accept his sister - so that is why I knocked off 1/2 a star. But I would happily recommend this book to anyone who likes a HOT historical romance.

Rhys and Georgiana

I have a new book boyfriend! Move over Mr. Darcy, Mr. Tremayne has arrived and he is to die for!

Rhys Tremayne is the dark hero you want when the chips are down. He is unapologetically awesome. Generally, alpha heroes are not big on tenderness and communication. This man has a strong family orientation and when he loves, he loves expansively.

Georgiana, Duchess of Hardcastle is powerful in the ton. She is an arbiter of style and grace. She is adored by all around her. But something is missing. She lacks passion in her life. Her one love is her precious little boy, Nicholas.

This book was primarily a relationship study of class boundaries and the relationships that bridge those boundaries. It was a page turner and I refused to put it down.

As usual, Stacy Reid's prose sizzles with sensual promise. Her love scenes are always HOT and this work delivers in spades. I recommend this book to those who love smoking hot chemistry in their protagonists and alpha heroes who also have a tender compassionate side.

***ETA at the bottom*

Well, this was far and away my favorite book by Stacy Reid. I completely fell in love with Rhys as he was the perfect, swoon worthy, protective, forceful, strong, kind-hearted, wicked, hero.

These two never meant to fall in love, never mean to have such a deep affair but they couldn't stay away from each other (well, I should say Georgiana couldn't stay away from Rhys - he wanted her from the get go, although couldn't understand why he felt so much.) These two have an incredibly passionate affair and such, such, such, sexy times. Like I had to fan myself several times while reading this book. Rhys was just so forceful and passionate and damn, if Georgiana isn't one lucky woman.

💙 He prowled closer. “I desire to see you sprawled in that high wingback chair over there, your legs split wide and each draped upon the arms.” This was pretty much their second meeting and yeah he said to shock her but good lord!!!

💙 A rough sound of appreciation escaped him and his cock throbbed. “I wonder how the first deep thrust inside you will be. Wet?” He snaked a hand between them and cupped her quite possessively. “Tight? Better than anything I’ve ever felt in my life?”

💙“What I should have said was that your sweet, tight sheath rocked onto my cock deep, hard, and rough, and you loved every second of it, duchess, even when it seemed too much.” His growl was low and rich, and arousal stabbed to the heart of her.

Me:

💙“These lips.” His thumb slipped into the recess of her mouth. “I’ll be wanting them wrapped around my cock, sucking and pleasuring me.” Rhys’s gaze was direct, sensually calculating, and confident. “I’ll want you above me, riding my tongue. I’m going to make love to you, then fuck you, then make love to you again.”

***See gif above because DAYUM

Yeah, so you really need to read this book. Not just for the sexy times but also because basically Rhys will do anything for Georgiana. Anything. Plus, they have these amazingly sweet moments where they just hold each other or gently kiss. It is all very swoon-worthy.

I highly recommend this Stacy Reid. I'm a bit disappointed we don't have books for his sisters, especially Lydia and Joanna. Though maybe they are listed under a different series.

ETA:I asked Stacy on goodreads if Rhy's sisters will get books and she says yes! They are already contracted with a publisher. She'll release more details as they come. So yay!!! ***end of Edit***

Definitely read this book if you want a wonderful hero, sweet moments, with a wonderful ending!!!

I have read several stories by Ms. Reid and I feel drawn into her stories. They flow nicely and the characters show a real progression throughout the story. I love the idea of Rhys being a broker. It is not something you read in books and made him all the more intriguing. Rhys and Georgiana’s relationship smolders off the pages. His relationship with her and her son is precious – he genuinely wants to court her but she is afraid since their status in society is so very different. Loved the ending…you just want to say “ahhhh” and “to hell with society”. Also, his relationship with his family is something I love to read about in stories. He will do anything for them.

3.5 stars rounded up.

Georgiana Rutherford, Duchess of Hardcastle, is at the center of the ton’s admiration. She’s wealthy, well-bred, and a sought-after trendsetter, but she secretly is very lonely and wants to feel true passion. When she meets the enigma that is Rhys Tremayne, a man society has dubbed the Broker, her attraction to him is immediate but she knows it is also wholly inappropriate.

Though he’s actually the grandson of a viscount, Rhys Tremayne has built up his vast wealth on his own by trading secrets. Now he controls an empire of business interests and has some of London’s most powerful men in his debt. He wants to give his three sisters the life they want and deserve among the ton and the duchess would be the perfect aide to introduce them to society. Unfortunately, Rhys quickly realizes he wants far more from Georgiana than a brief and mutually beneficial affair, though the disparity in their social standings means their relationship can never be public.

I really enjoyed the steam and chemistry between Rhys and Georgiana and found it to be very well done, but a couple of things did throw me off. Firstly, I listened to this on audio and though I liked the narrator’s voice, there were really no pauses between scenes, so I often found myself confused when scenes changed without me realizing it. This aside, my real issue was with Georgiana. I liked that she wanted to stand up for herself and do something she wanted for a change rather than what others told her to do, but she didn’t really stand by that very well. For quite a while there she was entirely too cowed by her brother and her mother and her refusal to acknowledge Rhys just highlighted her snobbishness and made me feel like she didn’t deserve him. He did everything to make himself worthy of her and I would’ve liked to see her choose him more readily before he worked at making a place for him in society. I loved Rhys and found him to be such a charming hero, especially in his tendency to take care of Georgiana and her son and in his willingness to readily and openly admit his feelings for her. I think he deserved more of the same from Georgiana and it took her entirely too long to realize how she might be hurting him with her snobbery. I enjoyed this story overall, but she was definitely a downside for me.

Love this authors work! Romantic, tender and steamy! Georgiana and Rhys’s story is captivating and beautiful! I’ve started this series backwards, reading book 2 first and now book 1. Omg, love, love the characters in this series, and I totally hope there’s many more to come. Please, Stacy Reid, give us more from both Rhys and Georgiana’s families, with of course, revisits from book 1 & 2!
