Having grown up in Assjacket, WV hasn’t been easy, especially when everybody, but Poppy, was a Shifter. Even coming from a Shifter family hadn’t made her any more popular. If anything, it had made her more of an outcast.
Finding her own place in the community had come in the form of a job offer. Now the regional grim reaper, she helps the souls of paranormal beings who have died crossover. Sure, her life might be a tad boring and she can’t tell anybody about being a reaper, but having a purpose and being gainfully employed makes up for that.
But boredom takes a hike when Jax Jackson, Poppy’s high school crush, arrives back in town. He’s taken a law enforcement position for the area, which could mean trouble for Poppy. Breaking the law to get her reap is common practice for her and when her latest job lands her on his family land, it’s going to take more than sweet talk to prove she’s not guilty.
Her mission: reap three honey badger poltergeists and win the man of her dreams, all without getting killed. Easy.
This book is definitely different. In a good way. I’ve, happily, been able to say that about pretty much every story I’ve read by this author. Her personality and sense of humor shine through her words and her characters. My only complaint is I wish it had been longer.
Poppy comes from a family of armadillo shifters who have a long-standing family feud with a neighboring family of mountain lion shifters. She’s also the local reaper, who is assigned to reaping all manner of paranormal creatures.
Reapercussions is a super short read. I think I read it in about an hour or two. This means if you don’t have a lot of time to read but would love a good laugh with a little smidgen of paranormal romance, this book may be for you. It has plenty of funny or awkward moments for Poppy to keep you entertained. From honey badger poltergeists who are trying to light dynamite to dealing with her family, I had a smile on my face for most of the time I was reading.
Ok. So this was a cute read. That's really the best way to sum up this book. The main character, Poppy, was fun and snarky and had an interesting role in that she was a reaper. Though this is billed as a romance, there really is no romance in the book. There is a case of insta-lust for sure, but not even a hint of romance. Overall this book felt like a short romp/adventure, which would be great, except it felt very incomplete. It left me with far more questions than answers, and as it turns out, is a part of a series. Those questions might get answered going forward, I am not sure. I will likely only finish the set if it gets discounted or put into KU. The writing wasn't awful, but it was done in first person and from only Poppy's perspective, so it felt very stilted as well as incomplete as a story. I would say this would be perfect as a side adventure to an actual book where you already knew the characters, honestly. The author shows promise when it comes to interesting story-lines, I just hope she learns to better flesh out her characters (I knew 0 about the male love interest by the end of the book except that he was hot) and make more of a complete read.
Poppy is the Grim Reaper in Assjacket, West Virginia. She comes from a family of Armadillo Shifters but isn't one of them - her abilities are most likely linked to her unknown father. And then Jax Jackson, her teenage crush, returns to town. He's a Lion Shifter and the newly appointed Federal Law Agent. Enter three honey badger poltergeists - can Poppy and Jax put them to rest? "Reapercussions" is a short, light and fluffy read. It has about as much depth as a sheet of tissue paper but that is fine by me.
I love Assjacket, such an interesting place full of interesting people. In Assjacket, everyone thinks Poppy is human. Born to a shifter family she is the only one who cannot shift. I feel for Poppy. She seems a little lonely even if she is surrounded by family. But she has a positive attitude and makes the most of her life. What people know of it anyways. Poppy has a secret life, an interesting, superhero type life. This book is about Poppy and her secrets, her hopes, and her old crush, the high school jock. Sounds cliche but Poppy's story comes with a twist. I enjoyed this story very much.
Poppy's always been in love with Jax, and now that he's back in town, she's more than prepared to go after the one that got away, but there's a fairly serious potential "mixed relationship" problem. More specifically, he's a mountain lion shifter and she's a reaper. Will they be able to overcome their differences and find true love? I loved finding out in this funny, light hearted romance. If you love shifters, you'll love this one.
Poppy has made peace with her uniqueness until her high school crush comes back to town. As things heat up between them, Poppy has to deal with a disturbance, as only she can.
This was a fast fun read. It was the first time I have read a book that was written by this author it will not be the last. This was a nice fit into this Kindle World. I enjoyed both the storyline and the characters.
