What if reality had a reset button, accessed through consciousness? What if dreams were a training ground for the mind to alter reality? What if of all species in the universe only humans possessed this ability? And what if some forces in the universe were so terrified of this ability, that they sought our extermination?
Humans have a powerful a genetic ability to alter reality, but we know nothing about it. As humans grow capable to oscillate, the Unkari plot on harvesting this ability. Meanwhile, humans are gearing up for war with an enemy they know nothing about. Otis Solarin, a Liberian professor of Space History, is among the few who discovered his ability to oscillate. What will he do when he realizes the awesome power and the lethal danger of his DNA?
Three hundred years later, the destiny of humanity is in the hands of the two soldiers, captured by the Unkari during a failed military operation. Will Lieutenant Desiree Mazula and Ensign Ebony River save the Earth Nations from extermination?
I love how it is entertaining and educational at the same time. The creativity mixed with intelligence is wizardry. The saying that humans are capable of great things like time manipulation in the thread about us being from an elite alien species is inspiring as it taps into deeper truth. The grand scale of the story and the story universe that you created is wonderful. It’s cool how although it is very creative, the theme and ideas are things that could possibly be true. The links between past and present, the actions that caused events that connect to future. The weaving of sprinkles of reality among the fiction. How all the different stories connect into the grand overall story. It is all done so well. I can’t remember if I have ever read that being done on such layered levels and certainly not over the vast differences in times and places that you have done it in. Massive kudos on that. I love how your mind works and the stories that come to life from it. The sprinklings of short sections about people who haven’t become part of the main cast just yet gives the story a kind of documentary feel which is cool as makes it all feel more real and draws the reader into story more. Speaking of the subconscious psychology of the human race is thought provoking as is much of what you write about. I like the situation of the Arkhipov character, the pressure and responsibility of his evolution. How he continues to try and do the right thing for the good of many despite it putting him in trouble and pain. It’s a beautiful and tragic tale is Arkhipov’s. That’s a beautiful moment between Him and Riddiff Ron. Lol at Kennedy’s chicken noodle soup order. Is a great moment of comedic relief after the ultra tense previous situation. Nice little biographical meta part with the sci fi writer part for Fah. Nice comment on society that despite it being the time of big cold and 80% of earth being covered in ice, the ipad is still being manufactured. Bravo for the use of gay and trans characters in your book. It’s a nice thing to see and read. It’s cool how there are little parts which speak of fiction and reality being confused which spikes the imagination to thoughts of ‘Is Ellie an extra terrestrial among us or part of some deeper conspiracy and putting truth in a ‘fiction’ book to get truth out there?’ This book is a masterpiece. Can tell how much thought, planning, brains, creativity went into it. You put in top effort and it shows.
329 Years Awake is a complex tale of plausible historical explanation tied to a believable speculative future. As someone who relishes well-thought out plot lines with limited (or no) holes in them, the book's complexity was appealing. Additionally, I love fiction books where I learn something, and I certainly learned a few things on these pages. The story spans centuries, continents, worlds, species, and once you get going, leads you to continue turning the page. And the global warming/failed fix angle is appreciated. Sorry to all non-believers in climate change. If you lack the intellectual capacity to understand what's happening to our planet, then this book is probably not for you.
I read precious few books these days, and feel cheated when I don't get fully engrossed. I'm happy to report that 329 did not leave me feeling cheated in any way. Why then four stars instead of five? I tend to reserve the highest rating for books that really blow me away - if I could give 4.5, I would. This one came close, but for the very item that separates it from the pack - the complexity - it would have garnered five stars. The shear number of locations and characters forced my brain to work a little too much, and I found myself rereading sections to remember or clarify things. Additionally, it is difficult to convey complexity without "telling" it, and there is a fair amount of "tell." This brought me out of the moment in a number of locations, and I had to push to get back in.
Otherwise, let's talk the positives: - Well written prose that is polished and well edited. - Intriguing, intriguing, intriguing. - Aliens. - Conspiracy. - History. - Aliens. - Did I say aliens and conspiracy?
Conspiracies, what are they & what drives them? In the book 329 Years Awake Ellie Maloney explores the questions of "Are we alone in the universe?" & what we are and aren't being told. It's a perfect bend of fact & fantasy....with sci-fi mixed in.
Ellie Maloney has succeeded in producing a monumental work of science fiction. The story spans centuries, many worlds, several galaxies, and a cast of incredible characters from human to alien. The world building is unsurpassed, with details of several future and past Japanese and African cultures, the intricacies of a very different alien life, and the often engaging and bewildering misunderstandings of a first contact immersing the reader in a believable and possible reality.
Ellie manages to use a variety of real events and artifacts to draw the reader in. She deftly uses a real mystery (details left out here to avoid giving away some surprises) and some edgy concepts taken from subatomic physics to weave an exciting adventure which points to mankind's origin, future and future potential.
Some minor inconsistencies in the science and a penchant for backstory narration are easily ignored for the pleasure of this sweeping saga. Very enjoyable read.
329 Years Awake tells a epic tale spanning many centuries. The story takes the reader on a journey through history, time and space. It's an epic journey That I would recommend to anyone. A great read.
I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book from the author, it’s not my usual kind of book but I couldn’t turn down the opportunity of a free copy in exchange for a review! - this book has a very interesting concept which flips the whole Humans & Alien concept in its head, the Aliens are the main race in this & humanity is little more than an experiment. The timeline and the language can be a little confusing at first but you soon get to grips with it, loved the diversity within the story too! I would definitely recommend this book to any Sci-fi fans out there, great job Ellie
I did not know what to expect when I picked up this book to read. What I got was a story full of aliens, humans with amazing abilities, and conspiracy theories galore. Ellie Maloney twisted a story around real life events, famous humans from history, and technological advances around the interference of aliens in order to promote their own agenda. All of this leads to a story that makes you wonder, could something like this really happen? The characters help to promote the over-arching battle between a race of aliens and the human race; each character taking their spot in a timeline that leads to one final and heart stopping event.
DNF. Bad writing, bad grammar, typos, and a slog of a plot, so i gave up at 1/3. I wanted to finish, see where it goes, but couldn't care less what happened to irrelevant characters, esp the aliens. I have too many books in my TBR list to put up with this.
This is a mind blowing read!! The author has carefully crafted a world where there are endless possibilities spanning lifetimes, species, generations and galaxies! This is not a book you will want to rush through, but enjoy slowly, allowing the intricate storyline to absorb into your brain as all the dots connect. Truly a fantastic read.
