Melissa Wright has been in love with handsome Patrick Fitzpatrick since the day they first met, but Patrick had always carried a torch for his widowed sister-in-law Ava. Three years ago, when Ava married a wealthy businessman, Melissa thought the spell had finally been broken. Now she has Patrick, a brand-new career, and after years of struggling to overcome her past, what looks like a bright future. Bright, that is, until one night a tragic accident sets in motion a chain of events that threatens to change everything. At first, it seems as if a truck driver under the influence took the life of a random stranger, but Melissa has a suspicion that Patrick knows more than he’s telling, and that Ava is somehow involved. Luckily, Melissa is friends with the three nosy Fitzpatrick cousins, and with their help, she’s determined to solve this mystery no matter what the cost. It’s October in Rose Hill, where the scariest Halloween monster may reside in the mind of a beautiful woman.
Pamela Grandstaff lives in West Virginia. She writes the Rose Hill Mystery Series and books for children. All books are available in paperback and as E-books.
I LOVE Pamela Grandstaff's Rose Hill Mysteries and have been eagerly awaiting the publication of the latest in the series. I was not disappointed! I think Pumpkin Ridge is different from the other books in the series, in that it is darker, has less humor, and focuses on fewer of the familiar residents of the little town. Ava is the primary character in this novel; she drives the plot as the depths of her ruthlessness and evil nature are revealed. Melissa (who has earned her degree and is working as a paralegal for Sean), is her primary target because Ava views her as an obstacle in her path to having everything she wants: her husband, his wealth, and her lover Patrick. Unfortunately, Ava escapes punishment for her latest misdeeds, which include murder, but is forced to pay a personal price for remaining free. I missed Maggie and Scott in this novel, and I can't wait to see how things work out for Claire and Ed and their new family, Melissa as she forges a new life without Patrick, and Hannah and Sam as they struggle through tough times.
So great to reconnect with this series. It had been awhile since reading #9 but I quickly got back into the lives of the Fitzpatrick family. This book centered on Melissa, an honorary family member, living with and totally in love with Patrick. Unfortunately, he is a lying cheat with the main object of his interest (obsession) with Ava. She is described at one point as a malignant narcissist (like our current president, having no interest in or empathy with anyone except as they meet her needs. In the opening pages Ava kills a private investigator who has been surveilling her for some time. It sounds melodramatic, but all the books in this series could fit that description. But I enjoy them anyway! I am starting the next one in the series now.
This novel was a free book for my Kindle. I liked the title so decided to try reading it. I'm glad I did because it had quite a convoluted plot and one of the meanest female characters I've encountered in a long time. I became impatient with the main character because she just wouldn't let her love interest Patrick go in spite of the fact that he was involved with his married sister-in-law and had a child with her. The plot was very convoluted until the author pulled all of the plot strands together at the end. I will read more books by this author.
This is the 10th in the Rose Hill Mystery series. Somehow I missed number 9, but there was no problem following the storyline in this one, although I think it's better to have read some of the earlier books in this series to really understand the motivations of some of the characters. And the characters are the best part of this series. This one ends up with a bit of a cliff-hanger, so I'm sure we'll be seeing more of this community soon.
I have now read the entire collection after a half-hearted start in my part. The author developed the plots well and the characters grew as the books progressed. There was some angst that I always hate in books, but the story kept my interest.
I was actually cheering that Melissa kicked The low-life to the curb (finally) and that she seems to have a good future in the horizon. I am actually hoping there is another book and that Pumpkin Ridge was not the end of the series.

I found reading this book to be easy and relaxing.
Reading this book is like being a spy in Melissa's life. There are many moving parts, yet it is easy to follow. Rose Hill has a few generations of families living in close proximity. Their relationships, problems and personalities are very diverse and very believable; their emotions and thoughts are genuine. It is amazing to me how one woman could cause so much trouble and grief while appearing to be a model wife and mother.
I’ve read all 10 books in this series and enjoyed them all. There are a lot of characters and it took awhile to get to know them all and their relationships but I’m glad I did. I also learned a lot of good info about dementia and other subjects and I appreciated that info.
If you start with book one you find a great long book, so far ending in-book ten. Hope eleven is in the near future. Fun, laugh out loud in places, sad in other places. Families you will love but true to life and even some times recognize. Time well spent living with these people.
Pamela Grandstaff is an amazing author. I've read all 10 of the Rose Hill Mysteries almost without stopping. She is amazing in that her books delve into struggles that everyone has in one form or another and yet they include compelling mysteries. I can hardly wait for book 11.
We see so much of these people’s complex lives that we feel part of their family and town.
I don’t like how a few of the characters changed so much from book to book, and my full memory doesn’t retain details any more on complicated family trees. That being said, I look forward to reading the next book, which I’m going to get as soon as I submit this review!
I was so delighted to find this book, #10 of 11. I thought the Rose Hill saga ended at book 9 and I felt like I had lost a friend. This book continued with the humor, the quirky characters and the engaging story line. I’m on to book 11 now and by the time I finish it I’m hoping there will be a book 12.
This book was very addicting, I didn't want to put it down. I can't wait for the next one to come out. This is the first book by Ms Grandstaff that I have read. I may have to find the first in this series and start from there.
I have read the whole story all the books really enjoyed them
I would recommend the series . It will make you laugh and cry. Also have some surprise too. Thank you Pamela Grandstaff enjoyed the story of Rose Hill.
Great stories! I just finished # 10 on October 9. I started the Rose Hill series on October 1 and have been immersed in small town, surprising life for 9 days. I do not want it to end.
Oh what tangled Webb’s we weave when we practice to deceive. Well be assured these stories are all that and more. I keep reading, getting wrapped up and entangled and enjoy the well written tales of these people and their neighbourhood. On to the next.
The characters are unique individuals, wonderfully drawn. The plot kept twisting. Having a map of the characters and their relationships to one another would have been helpful.
Although I really enjoyed reading this well-written book, I was very disappointed with the ending. It really left me up in the air, and I felt I needed to read another to completely solve the mystery. Reviews state that the book is a stand-alone. I don't intend to read the 14 book series.
I have read the Rose Hill series and will be anxiously waiting for the next book. The characters are so well developed and the sense of family is so well written.
The whole Rose Hill mystery series is a fun read. The characters are realistic dealing with life's complicated issues. I recommend this series and look forward to next installment.
