Magic and Mayhem Universe

Nice Witches Don't Swear

Rate this book

A Washington Witches story by USA Today bestselling author Mindy Klasky.

Librarian-witch Jane Madison is ready for a road trip!

In the last four months, Jane has learned how to work spells, read runes, and bind crystals. She's ready for a little R&R, a getaway weekend with her best friend.

Heading to a nice, sedate Shakespeare festival, Jane never expected to drive straight into the mother of all thunderstorms. And she never imagined she'd discover a treasured book on witchcraft in a tiny local library. And honey badgers? She never dreamed she'd run into ravening, rampaging honey badgers.

Spells work differently in Assjacket, West Virginia. How quickly can Jane forge a path through the magic and mayhem? Because honey badgers aren't the worst thing lurking in the shadows!

Mindy Klasky learned to read when her parents shoved a book in her hands and told her that she could travel anywhere in the world through stories. She never forgot that advice.

Mindy's travels took her through multiple careers, including copyright lawyer and law librarian. Mindy now writes full time. Her books fall in a number of genres -- including romantic comedies, paranormal romance, and traditional fantasy.

In her spare time, Mindy knits, quilts, and tries to tame the endless to-be-read shelf in her home library. Her husband and two cats do their best to fill the left-over minutes in her days.

What was the plot exactly as i seemed to have missed it

Sorry but this really isn't what I expected from this author. What exactly was the storyline? The characters however were great but I really didn't know what the story meant to convey. Stopping for a break on their girl's long weekend and then coming under attack by beasts. Beating the beasts and then continuing on your merry way. Sorry the point was......?

I'm going to lead this review with a little about myself - but bear with me. :-) My life is busy - beyond busy. My wife and I have triplet boys who are toddlers and I am a full-time assistant professor at a local university. Why do I tell you this? Because I want you to understand that there isn't a lot of minutes in my weeks for leisure activities. That matters to this review because when I do get to choose my leisure activities, I do so with intent. I intend to enjoy, to relax, to take pleasure in an activity for myself.

When Mindy Klasky has a new story published, reading her prose is always a choice for my self-care moments. She has a way of developing characters and building environments that not only make for good story telling, but are immersive. I've wanted to be Jane Madison's witchy best friend for years now! Nice Witches Don't Swear is whimsical and full of laughable moments. Yet it also contains those wholesome bits of storytelling that I've come to expect in Mindy's stories. Take, for example, this sentence: "I swam to consciousness in a sea of old fashioned quilts." You can feel it right? Place yourself in that soft bed underneath those covers?

In this story Mindy takes you on a fast-paced, fun-loving adventure. Without giving away plot details, I'll just say that it's an experience 'you' won't soon forget! :-)

Kudos once again to Mindy!

I was provided an ARC to provide an honest review of this novella.

Jane and Melissa go on a weekend adventure to see some plays and end up in Assjacket West Virginia where they meet some witches and shifters. Jane helps the witches and shifters from an attack of crazy animals in Assjacket and Melissa is contained within the diner so she doesn’t get hurt. By the end of battle both women’s memories are wiped and they don’t remember the crazy adventure they had. This is a short story involving the characters that live in Assjacket. There are some funny things that happen there.

I was excited to read this latest Jane Madison and it was a great fun read. When Jane and her best friend go on a girls only weekend trip, they find themselves in a dangerous situation that will require Jane to dig deep inside herself to release her newfound magic. Wonderful new characters and an exciting magic battle. Just note that this adventure takes place early in the Jane Madison series. Hope there are more Jane stories to come! Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC of this story.

Oh, how I have missed you Jane! It was so nice to be back in your world. I really enjoy the Jane Madison books and was excited when I was offered an advanced copy of this book. It's a fun, lighthearted read that will keep you entertained that is also a good introduction to the witching world of Jane Madison.

Good book

This one was a bit different from the others but in a good way. Two friends are headed to a play for girls weekend and get stranded in A$$jacket. Crazy honey badger are on the lose and it's up to Jane to stop them. Melissa is fine eating in the local diner. Gran is so funny. I enjoyed the book. Hoping to read more about Jane and her warder David.

A cute little adventure for Jane and Melissa. I know the town of Assjacket, WV, has its own series by a different author, but I have not read those. That being said, I didn’t feel left out because the story is told through Jane’s eyes, and she is just meeting these characters for the first time as well.

There is nothing that happens here that is essential to the Magical Washington universe, so you won’t be missing anything if you skip it. But it’s short, so it’s worth a read.

I only wish it wasn't a short!

This short story was a great setup for a full blown novel. I enjoyed seeing old characters and loved the new ones too. If ever this novella develops into an adult, I'd order it up immediately.

Cute short story about a road trip and adventures that ensue. The whole gang is involved, plus some new characters.
Typos: sac is park of male anatomy; sack is what holds lumps of coal. One it's that should be its, no apostrophe (Its power over me...).

I absolutely loved Jane’s road trip. The adventures this witch gets in to should come with a warning label... And really, honey badgers just made it better!

Good story

But I wanted more to happen in Assjacket. It was almost like a fly over. They needed to stay and learn more.

The point of "write drunk, edit sober" is to get rid of all the crap you wrote while trashed, not publish it to Amazon.
