Sometimes the best of intentions, lead to the worst of decisions. There’s heartache and chaos in the sleepy, beachside town of Calgon, Florida. Cupcake baker Melissa Beckett has some exciting possibilities on the horizon, but can’t focus on them because everything that can go wrong, is going wrong…and all at once. One of her dearest friends goes missing, another friend is suspected of murder, and in the midst of it all, Missy decides to take a terrible risk, all on her own, and against her husband’s sage advice and wishes. Calgon's most vindictive detective is out for blood, and if he goes too far, the life of someone near and dear to Missy's heart may be changed forever. While the rest of the world is preparing for the upcoming holiday season, Missy and the gang are feeling anything but jolly, and one of them may not make it to ring in the New Year. Don't miss this spellbinding tale of murder and intrigue! This exciting Cozy Mystery can be read as a standalone, but if you’d like to know more about Missy, Chas and the rest of the Calgon gang, their history can be found in the two series previous to this one. The first Missy and Chas series is Frosted Love Cozy Mysteries, and the second is The INNcredibly Sweet Series. Enjoy them all!
Our favorite Calgon citizens are in chaos. Kel goes missing and Spencer is searching for him. Missy and Chas shocked to learn that the little girl they hope to adopt has been kidnapped. To add insult to injury, Beulah finds herself on the wrong side of bumbling Detective Solinsky. In the midst of this Missy takes of without telling anyone where she is going. This is a great addition to the Cupcakes in Paradise Series. While a few problems are rectified, there is a cliffhanger leaving you wanting more. I was impressed with the more realistic response from Chas when he was angry with Missy. I look forward to reading the next book to learn more. This is a book that I recommend. It could stand alone, but it would make more sense to read from the beginning of the series.
Summer Prescott certainly knows how to write a really good, sad story. I cried throughout the majority of the book and just wanted to rush through, hoping I would get some laughing time in. Everyone seems to be going through some sort of crisis, and though the main parts have some sort of ending, I found that I am still waiting for the next book, hoping for more of a closure. I am thankful the author forewarned that this was going to happen. This is an excellent book and I have to admit I never would have guessed the things that happened were going to happen.
There was A LOT going on in this book. It was almost 3 separate stories -- the murder mystery (wrapped up in seconds!!), the Chas - Missy - Kaylee storyline and the Kel plane crash/Spencer rescue mission. All at once. And honestly -- how did Spencer get back so fast from the snow capped mountains and woods of Switzerland???? It just seemed rushed. But having said that, I did enjoy the writing and 2 of the 3 story lines. I really like the characters. I almost feel like the author should do away with the murder mystery stories and just write about these people. Thats what keeps me coming back. I did enjoy it.
The small seaside town of Calgon, Florida is normally a quiet place to live and enjoy life, until a murder happens. Chas Beckett has started his own private investigation business and continues to consult for the police department where he was their lead detective. Coming from a family background of old money, means he doesn't have to work but his sense of fair play and justice won't let him just sit around. His wife, Missy, is the creative genius behind Cupcakes In Paradise, the cupcake shop she owns and operates. Their best friends are Echo and Kel Kellerman. Echo owns a combined candle making shop where she mixes unforgettable scents and the adjoining bookstore where she serves up the best selection of cozy mysteries in town. Kel is a world renowned artist who is now opening his own gallery in Calgon. Spencer Bengal is an ex-Marine, a trained bodyguard for Chas and Missy and now, a partner in the PI business. Timothy Eckels is the Calgon County Coroner and the owner of the local funeral home. Along with his feisty assistant, Fiona McCamish, they work to help Chas find usable evidence in murder cases. Ringo is the fast food junkie who works for Chas as a top information gather or should we say computer hacker! Joyce is Echo's manager at the candle and bookstore shops and her Aunt Beulah has just hired on to work in the cupcake shop for Missy.
Nothing is going right for our crew of friends in Calgon, Florida. Kel has disappeared in the Swiss Alps when a private jet he was on crashed. Aunt Beulah has the despicable Detective Solinsky looking at her as a prime murder suspect in the death of a Chili Contest Judge. A new friend has been kidnapped and Missy goes AWOL to find her. Even with all his covert and military training can Spenser find Kels in time to save him from freezing to death? Can Chas, Timothy and Fiona find the chili judges real murderer before Aunt Beulah is arrested? What happens if Missy can't find their new friend?
WARNING, THIS BOOK ENDS ON AN INTENSE EMOTIONAL CLIFF HANGER! You will need the next book IMMEDIATELY!
There is quite a bit of drama happening in this book. I use present tense because it will continue in the next book "Frostycake Murder" Book 8 of 16.
Not only was someone murdered (The usual in every one of the books involving Missy and Chas), but the main suspect is Beulah. Beulah! Excuse me, honey?! As if she'd be sneaky about her actions!
Other happenings are that Kel's plane crashed and is off the radar, Kaylee gets kidnapped, and what may be the worst of all is Missy lies to Chas about something very important. She doesn't evade his question or omit a part of her answer when Chas asks her where she's going when she says she has to get away for awhile, rather she straight up lies.
I can see that if I were in her shoes I'd be hesitant about sitting still and not doing anything while my child was missing, but why lie? It's absurd and very uncharacteristic of her which makes me feel that she must have been out of her mind with worry and simply overwhelmed by everything going on around her which drove her into a state of temporary insanity.
Will Chas forgive his wife? Well, I'm sure he will. Eventually. He may go back to New York to take care of his family's business for a bit in order to give him time away to think and talk to the wise Chalmers, but he'll forgive her. However, I'm sure their relationship will be a bit troubled in the next couple of books until Chas finally let's go of the feeling of betrayal because he'll realize why Missy was so tunnel-visioned and that's because she loves Kaylee so deeply and would lay her life on the line for her which is exactly what Chas loves about Missy and exactly what he would want in a woman that is to be the mother of his child.
The stress will continue in Book 8. Kel better be okay, darnit!
Beulah enters the chili contest at the Fall Festival, Kel leaves for Switzerland to install one of his sculptors for a client and Chas and Missy plan to bring Kaylee to the Fall Festival what could possibly go wrong, well Beulah's chili poisons a judge, Kel's plane crashes and something happens to Kaylee after the Festival. Solinsky finally goes a step too far with the Police Chief present and it seems like everything is going wrong for everybody. It's one shocking turn after another with twists and surprises that just take your breath away with one final horrifying shock it seems like nothing will ever be the same again. Great read.
I received this book in return for an honest review. I am a huge fan of this series already but this book will just take yoyr breath away with it's fast pace. It's already based on a great story that each new book just adds to but this one seems different. Things jyst seem to happen one right after another with this one. The same regular characters are in it and really make the story what it is but any new characters are good too. And of course Spenser can't be left out, as he once again saves the day. I just loved this book.
This is a well written story that has three events that are chilling. Missy and Echo both have to contend with a crisis that can be matters of life and death. Chad has his hands full with a murder at the fall festival, so the story is one that the reader gets involved and will want to read this in one sitting. Summer Prescott has given us an exceptionally good book.
Talk about a cliff hanger! Thank you Summer Prescott for keeping me happy with my reading! Summer is an amazing author and this series is sooo good! It touches the heart and makes me smile. The characters in this series are like family. I find myself holding my breath on occasions. This book, like all the others in the series is wonderful! Give it a try, you won't be sorry!
The things that you don't think could happen!!!!!!!!
I give 15 stars!!!!!!! WOW!!!! I have never held my breath so much. I didn't sleep much, what the gang went through, murder, poisoning, kidnapping, plane crash, and hurt feelings. I don't want to spoil anything, you have to read this for yourself. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!!!!!!!!!! This is strictly for the ladies.
Every fan of this series by Summer Prescott has to agree that we can’t get enough of these books. The characters really seem like family and what they feel, we feel! Now I know that these stories aren’t real, but I still can’t get enough of these books 📚, to find out what’s happening next!
I love this series and this addition was a bit of a departure from the rest of the storyline. As well written and plotted as the rest of the books that this author writes, this book plucks at your heartstrings as character after character deals with emotionally gut wrenching crises. To say more would give things away, but this is a don’t miss book.
But I sure did. This cozy was so good that I cried about the things happening. Boy it was a good one. But I warn you that you cannot get through it without some tears. Summer has done it again. I don’t know how she does it but this is her best I believe. Cannot wait for the next one.
In this installment Echo is worried about Kel. The daughter Missy and Chas are wanting to adopt is abducted. Beulah is questioned in reference to a murder. Missy proves the only person she really cares about is herself as she abandons Echo Kell and Beulah not to mention lies to Chas and does her own thing.
A really great effort from Ms. Prescott. A well- constructed, fast-paced 50 yard dash of a story that gets you to the finish line in need of oxygen. I can't wait for the next installment.
Yes I mean cliffhangers! So many emotions ran through me as I read this book. Summer once again had me on the edge of my seat and in tears all the way through. Can't wait to make sure everyone is healthy and happy in Calgon
I definitely didn't see any of this coming. Cliffhanger indeed. Cannot wait to see what Summer has in store for Missy, Chas, Kaylee, and the rest of the gang.
No spoilers but a real cliff hanger. Yes I want more from SUMMER , BUT SHE HAS SO MANY SERKEX I NEED MORE OF I DONT KNOW HOW SHE KEEPS UP. SO PLEASE DON'T OVERWORK YOUR FINGERS. JUST GIVE US MORE ...
I love Missy and Chad and the whole gang if you haven't read this series by Summer Prescott yet and you love a great cozy then you need to you won't be able to put it down
Well this time there is so many twists and turns and so many things going on it'll keep you reading to the very end. So many wonderful characters that will keep you intrigued and interesting At the end you definitely want a box of Kleenex.
Summer Prescott is a great writer and always leaves you wanting more! This is another great read in the Cupcakes series and I can't wait for the next one.
This series of cozy mysteries has more meat than some I have read. This book in particular had several things going on at once and then a cliffhanger at the end.
