WARNING: STUFFED ANIMALS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VOLUME! *all fingers pointing to Guren*

I love that a fantasy manga with so many serious plot points never takes itself seriously. Thank you Takaya Kagami! The comedic relief of all of this is gold!

Thoughts along the way *most definitely spoilers thrown in here if you know what you are looking for*

vAmPiReS dOnT hAvE fEeLiNgS- sureeeeee

Ferid! Some time burning in sun did you good! Looking fab with the new cut ✨

“-But we did rescue the perv.” “Guren you should never help the pervs. It isn’t right.” (for anyone who has not read this manga… yes that is an actual line of text ☠️)

🤣 SOMEONE GET FERID SOME PANTS!

“So how did it feel to get burned by the sun? Was it hot?"

Come on kids get in the car. We are off to take on god!

Not Ky Luc making a convertible for the queen to still be burning in the back seat. Although he shouldn’t have taken out the windshield cause of bugs and such while driving, but I’m sure he worried about other things tehe.

“We’re amnesia twins!” HALP THIS BOY IS TOO DUMMY DUMB AND PRECIOUS FOR HIS OWN GOOD. How anyone could hurt/use/try to kill this boy is beyond me!

HIS PARTNER! IT WAS SAID HERE FIRST FOLKS! NO ANDS, IFS OR BUTS!

Guren what weird and creepy things do you have going on in that house and why wasn’t I invited?? I mean I’m human and unstable already soooo… Lol

Awww Mika stayed by his side the entire time. And then after a moonlight stroll, they held hands. Don’t mind them just the usual normal and platonic things ya know.

What is Yu?? DUN, DUN, DUNNNNNN…

[Asuramaru] “You have a brain…use it. If you don’t, you won’t be able to save anyone in the end. At least, I think that’s what your partner would say.” [Yu] “My partner?” [Asuramaru] “He’s calling your name right now. If you don’t wake up soon, he’ll get mad at you again.” [Mika] “Yu-chan? Yu! Yu, are you OK?”
This volume manages to be surprisingly funny considering that it involves the team going up against a 5th progenitor using Yu’s maybe-sorta-tamed seraph powers, and Yu gettting a hole punched in his chest! Meanwhile, Krul (still on fire) realizes that Yu’s demon is her long-lost sibling. Possibly not-so coincidentally, Asuramaru seems to be getting some of their pre-demon memories back…and realizes Yu has some weird memory gaps as well, calling his origins into question.

Full review of anime and manga up to chapter 100 or so: https://ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2...

Favorite moments (spoilers, obviously!):
- Guren mapping out their strategy using stuffed animals, some of which get set on fire (to emulate Krul and Ferid, of course!)
- Crowley wisely pointing out that they shouldn’t underestimate Ky Luc because, though Crowley doesn’t know him personally, he always looks amused. As he notes, that is both a rare display of emotion for a vampire and a very Ferid-like quality, suggesting he is probably quite cunning!
However, at this point I do feel like I have to call BS on “vampires don’t have emotions”. The all seem to get bored – that is why Crowley hangs out with Ferid, after all! Ferid makes Krul VERY angry. Ferid and Ky Luc visibly have fun toying with people… It might be more accurate to say that their emotional range is muted, or that they have trouble making close connections to people they didn’t know when they were human
- The drama of Ky making a giant hole in Yu’s chest…which then heals itself! But poor Mika, witnessing that!
As they huddle on the edge of the group afterward: [Mika, visibly concerned] “He crushed your heart. Are you feeling OK?” [Y] “Umm…Yeah, I’m fine! I think.” [M, irritated] “ ‘I think’ isn’t good enough!”
- God, just the whole “Ferid reconstituting himself” thing! Shinya comes down from his sniper post to ask if they won. Guren says Ky got away with the queen. “But we did rescue the perv.” (Indicates Ferid’s singed upper half, which is balanced on a sword and waving at them). [Shinya] “Guren, you should never help pervs. It isn’t right.” [G] “Oh? I guess we lost, then.” [S] “Whoo! We lost!”
Meanwhile, Ferid - whose clothes have burnt off - knits his top and bottom half together and proceeds to flash Shinoa and Mitsuba. They freak out, cut off his head, and run to hid behind Yu and Mika!
[Yu] “Shinoa, what’s wrong?” [Shinoa] “H-help! An evil and twisted vampire is over there!” [Mika, wearily] “See? I told you we shouldn’t bother rescuing him.”
Crowley tosses Ferid’s head to him and gets him some clothes, casually inquiring how the sunlight torture felt: “Was it hot?”
- Ferid and Crowley remarking on how they envy the living, as the squad banters (Mika looking visibly disgruntled about Shinoa getting up in Yu’s personal space!) Crowley asks what the plan is – who are they going to fight next? To which Ferid replies: “God.” Jeez, never one for small plans, are you, Ferid? (Of course, we know he means Shikama Doji, who as the First and creator of all subsequent vampires is effectively a god to them)
- Ky Luc making himself a convertible by just swiping the top off a car with his hand, sticking Krul – still burning on her cross – in it, and merrily driving off!
- Asuramaru questioning what Yu is trying to become (Part demon? Part angel?), or “Heck, what are you in the first place?” He isn’t listening, though, and once recovered asks them what they’d want to do if they ever got control of his body, seeing as Asuramaru clearly has free will. They think for a moment and say “I think there’s someone I must find…but I can’t remember who. Why is that, I wonder?”
- The flash-back of Mahiru talking to child Yu (who is about to undergo some kind of experiment), telling him “Let’s say you are a monster. Aren’t monsters allowed to live too?” But that’s a memory from BEFORE the orphanage where he met Mika, that Yu can’t access! To which Yu’s cheery response (to Asuramaru) is “We’re amnesia twins!” Oh, Yu. You’re a moron, but we love you!
- Asuramaru’s response: “I don’t know who is pulling your strings, but I’d rather it was YOUR desire that was making everyone around you dance.” [Yu] “My desire?” Followed by the exchange at the top!
Can I just say that I love that it is the gender-ambiguous demon who first puts a clearer name than “family” to Yu and Mika’s relationship?
- Aaand…Yu waking up floating in a tank for human experiments in Guren’s basement. True, Mika’s calm demeanor suggests nothing bad is going on right now. Apparently while the team was bantering after the battle Yu collapsed and his heart stopped, so Mika was willing to put murdering Guren on hold if he could fix him - but WHY DO YOU HAVE SKETCHY TANKS IN YOUR BASEMENT, GUREN? Some of which are filled with weird monstrosities that probably begged to be put out of their misery?! Also, I’m pretty sure Mika didn’t just wait up until 3 am (“Well, it isn’t as if I need to sleep”) – I suspect he sat by that tank for the full four days. Because there is no way he’d leave Yu alone in those circumstances!

There’s a bonus story too, a flashback featuring Shinoa and Yu taking down a vampire that infiltrated a school. I was wrong about one thing: Yu DOES call Mika his “best friend” once – in a 4th-wall-breaking intro. But on the other hand: [Shinoa] “You were calling quite plaintively for ‘Mika’. Were you enjoying a dream about an old girlfriend?” [Yu] “What? Heck no! Mika isn’t a girl.”… [Shinoa] “We haven’t even been here for a day, and already you stick out like a sore thumb, drooling in your sleep and calling out for your dear Mikaaa” [Yu] “I do not drool!” Not addressing the second half of that statement at all, Yu? ‘K. Also, Shinoa…how do you notice that but not how irritated and confused Yu gets every time you bring up girls? He even immediately lost confidence in his ability to discern “pretty” when you questioned it! (Though he DOES seem to think all vampires are gorgeous even if, at this point, he assumes they’re all evil too. Hmm. Noted.)

This volume went by really fast. The story's been keeping me guessing and I have no idea where it's gonna go next. Yu still bugged me a lot in this volume and I don't think it will get better as he continues to become less and less human.

The rescue attempt of Krul Tepes and Ferid Bathory is on, plotted by Guren Ichinose, a host of former Japanese Imperial Demon army, and a couple of vampires, pulling off a crazy plan in one of the most interesting action scenes of misdirection I’ve after see, after a surprisingly light-hearted training session. Ky Luc has to make a sacrifice and a choice between Ferid Bathory and Krul Tepes, not that Krul is paying much attention. One of her own long-term goals is in reach and not even torture from being exposed to the sun can distract her from it. Lines of rivalry are drawn between bored vampires, raising the question of who is the maddest of them all? For Ferid Bathory has found himself some amusing new toys, err, allies and Crowley is having more fun that he has in centuries, allying himself with his former enemies. Mikaela Hyakuya is not having fun, nor does he trust Guren Ichinose any further than he can throw him, but the young vampire tolerates the man for Yuichirou’s sake. Besides Guren appears to have answers, not only about Yu’s past, but Mika’s as well, along with some of the most curious secrets hidden on his family estate.

Lots of action mingled with a certain amount of humour in this volume as both Ferid Bathory and Krul Tepes revealed how much torture they can take and how little they care about it if they have a goal in mind, along with a beautifully coordinated fight where Guren Ichinose shows just what he’s capable of in mustering his forces against a more powerful opponent. I can see why Ferid Bathory chose to team up with him. This was followed by some beautiful, introspective moments between Yuichirou and Mikaela, trying to make sense of their surroundings and Guren’s motives, even as Guren himself opens up a little more to both of them. The story was followed by a cute short story about Yu and Shinoa going undercover at yet another high school before Yu was reunited with Mika, trying to find a vampire hidden there. Once more I was left wondering what would happen next, yet appreciating the sweet little break which Mika and Yu got to spend together. Yu appears to be thinking with a little more coherence. Fun, dramatic, touching, and exciting, this segment added layers to a series I’ve found myself growing increasingly obsessed with, returning back to certain panels just to drink in the artwork, the action, and the various intense moments when the characters’ emotions seem to leap off of the pages. For all of these qualities, I give this four stars.

It is finally out! And one hour later I already have finished read it.

Yuu & the team are still trying to set Krul and Ferid free in order to defeat the fifth progenitor, Ky Luc. There were some funny moments with Ferid and the team, I am not sure how this alliance between the Demon Army and vampires can work.

Yu is slowly losing control to the monster inside of himself.

I liked the fact that Asuramaru pass a comment on the fact that the boy is far too willing to sacrifice himself for his friend and family. There is also an entire chapter where Mika try to reason with Yu. The plan of resurrecting the world is craziness and the boy doesn’t seem to realize it. Mika is still a sweetheart and care greatly for his best friend, he is the voice of reason here.

Usually I am patient, but there was a moment where I wanted to shake Yu but the shoulder and tell him to open his eyes. I am tired of him constantly finding excuses and protecting Guren. The “he must have a good reason” is getting old. I understand that Yu see him as a mentor, but he blindly follows him and do not ask questions, he was so careless and react as is things were not a big deals when they were. This series haven’t giving me a reason to like or trust the Lieutenant so far.

There are still so many mysteries surrounding Yu and his past, things seem to involve Mahiru, once again.

3.5/5 while it's still a bunch of talking this volume had some cool fight scenes and some nice development into what feels like the next "stage" of Seraph of the End. I really just wished Kagami would just spit out some of the mysteries though. It feels like he wants to go onto the next arc but is stuck going at his current pace.
Like so many Seraph of the End volumes the volume splits pretty neatly in half. The first half covers the fight Ky Luc which was a neat fight. It had some good humor what with Guren going kiddie mode with the stuffed toys and naked and dismembered Ferid. The plan doesn't go exactly to play but its enough for Ferid who establishes the next goal post for the series: defeating God. It's a neat direction but it's for sure a large step up from the goal in volume one of stopping and enacting revenge on vampires. It also brings the both human parties together making the plot hopefully less disjointed and crazy going forward.
This volume also made me enjoy Ky. In the previous volumes I didn't really get his vibe and found him a bit boring. But it feels like he has a bit of personality. He's like a mini Ferid whose childishness is hiding oodles of subterfuge but just genuine childishness. And who doesn't enjoy Ferid?
The second half covers the aftermath mostly from Yu’s side but also Krul’s sides. I enjoyed seeing the perspective and focus on the Tepes siblings. It’s been awhile since they’ve been in the spotlight so seeing them get a focus again makes me feel like that plotpoint will get reinvigorated soon especially with Yu’s backstory also now including Saito. There are a few revelations in the second half about Yu’s past. Mostly just how it seems there’s some more vampire and the new God antagonist stuff in the human’s side of the past. The ending is neat as it really makes it feel like we’re on the cusp of learning about the deal with the Seraphs, Mahiru’s giant plan, and finally who the person pulling the strings the last two volumes have harped on about.
The extra story was neat. It wasn't too ground-breaking but it was a nice departure from how bogged down the convoluted story has become by going back to the simpler set-up of the beginning.

I love how the last volume ended with their attack on the vampire Ky Luc, and then this one starts with them goofing around and planning out the strategy via stuffed animals lol.

The fight with Ky Luc was fierce, amazing none of them died.💀 Yu is mostly controlling his seraph but even with everything at their disposal, they still cannot defeat this vampire and he manages to escape with Krul (who is still burning at the stake, rip.)

The vampire power levels never fail to amaze me because we have so many strong, demon weapon powered warriors + a couple of vampires and they still get fucked. Skill issue lmao.

They do manage to save Ferid who is still a menace but I appreciate everyone agreeing that he is a freak pervert but unfortunately still a necessary ally. There was some silly ass moments where he was yelling at the other half of his body to come to him which I lol'd but then he was being creepy and telling the girls to look at his naked lower half and then I serious'd.🤮 If there is a chance to be creepy, by god Ferid will be taking it !!!

I should have figured we'd get further into religious lore with all the angels and trumpets but man I hope we actually do kill god, that'd be so metal tbh.

Quick look into Yu's past and apparently his memories were altered like okay mystery. Personally my biggest takeaway was Yu's demon calling Mika his partner.👌👌 Instant five stars just for that my dude. And Mika and Yu's cute little moonlit walk?? Love to see it.

Also I thought I was losing my fucking mind at the last chapter- it takes place with Yu and Shinoa back in high school working to find out an undercover vampire which leads into Mika and Yu across the battlefield again with Mika promising to save Yu.

Like I know I was reading this at 4am but the chapter before this was somewhere else so then I thought oh are we getting a flashback? Which confused me further because this isn't what happened then, it's similar but not the same. Is this a dream?? Anyway it's literally just a random bonus story that remixes what we've already done and I am a sleep deprived dumbass.♥️

So we get a fight against the 5th Progenitor Ky and it is a pretty intense fight as they are trying to rescue Ferid and Krul we also get to see Yu use his angel powers in the fight. I do like that Yu is getting a upgrade but it is an upgrade he clearly cannot control yet. After the fight we get a couple of bombshells like where the Horsemen are coming from and about the Orphanage that Yu and Mikela grew up in.

Cap 65.

Really good needs more work to make perfect

It was really good a nice change of pace from the other ones but it is missing a lot of lore between the other chapters and this because the bonus chapter had a bunch of plot holes
