Mine to Keep

Rate this book
Veronica has always been a good girl.

She's always listened and done what men wanted. It was easier that way. Less pain, easier to get what she needed to survive. Then a boy rescued her. Now her protector, the boy who saved her, is giving her away. Handing her over to another man. To him. Robert of Senator Security.

She wants to run away from the man who keeps touching her, the man who brings back the pain and the memories. He follows her, protects and hunts her with possession in his eyes. He demands she belong to him and him alone. But Veronica doesn't want to be an obedient girl anymore.

She wants to be the bad girl she was born to be... and set the woman free.

Please note: This novella can be read as standalone or after Because You’re Mine, as this love story takes place about 7 years before Allie and Jay’s romance. Guaranteed HEA, NO cheating, NO cliffhanger. Sizzling romance novella!

Another superb, tension-filled story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked reading about this middle aged couple who were perfect together, and it was nice to get some insightful background information about Jay and Allison, too. My only criticism is the ending seemed too abrupt; things were moving along nicely and then it just skips forward two years to a wedding. I would’ve liked more details on the way to their HEA or a little more conflict to occur with the mafia takeover bid to justify the personal protection. But overall I strongly recommend this novella, especially if you’re already a fan of Ms. Slater’s alpha males. Rob Senator doesn’t disappoint.

Clearly Nikata Slater has a thing for buff guys with anger issues. Which is what makes her books so hot. Loved the story of Veronica and Robert! And I like that it is kind of a prequel to Allie's and Jay's story in Because Your Mine. Not too long - one of those rainy afternoon reads with a glass of red wine and a roaring fire in the fireplace.

Very steamy, OTT H, and childlike h. She has had a hard live, now living a clean but boring, self indulgent life which another man pays for. Other than physical, could not see what H saw in her.

Both of these books are novella-length stories of about 120 pages. Mine To Keep is a prequel set seven years before the second book and was my favourite of the two.

Slater's work features angry, overly protective anti-heroes with dark pasts ... shady presents to be honest. They are an insta-love type of romance, which you really have to expect in a novella, and the stories are super easy to read. One sitting for sure.

I wish that the author would take the next step and write "real" books that are full length. She has a decent writing style and interesting stories to tell. She definitely hit the right "he-man anti-hero alpha" mix I devour.

Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of character development, mostly due to the short word count, and her heroines tend to do an about face in personality overnight with little internal agonizing or signs of working through their issues/reticence. Any plot points that should be obstacles for the hero are wrapped up too easily as well.

At the end of the day these books are entertaining enough that I will keep an ear out for information on this author in the future, but not enough that I am going to hunt down and read her other novellas. However, Because You're Mine hints at a possible third book with an interesting male anti-hero introduced, I will probably read it, especially if my wish comes true and it is full length!

I love this book very much, if you have read Because you are mine, then this is a must read. Read it to find out why...lol. If you haven't read either, then you are missing out.

I read this when it was first released and didn't realize I hadn't left a feedback. If you are a fan of Ms. Slater you already know how awesome her books are. If you haven't read her books, give them a try, just pick one, you wouldn't be disappointed. I have read thousands of romance novels from all Genres and Ms. Slater is one of my top 5 Authors. Her novels are a little bit more than your typical romance, but after reading the same kind of novels over and over you want something different and she certainly doesn't fail to disappoint. They are all unique in their own way with Alpha Heroes and Bad Ass Women who keep them on their toes....Enjoy! I know I did...lol.

I enjoyed learning about Veronica and discovering her backstory. I enjoyed seeing how the connection with Jay had started. It seemed odd to me that this story was dated before Jay and Allie's story but yet was written after. Short Novella but very good. This author knows how to write an OTT possessive man.

Short love story

Short love story with a merc and a former drug addict and prostitute. I enjoyed reading the two characters, Veronica and Rob meeting and developing. This is a fast paced story so not too much on character development. But i think it still worked out and was a decent story.

I loved reading more about Jay's bond with Veronica but found the romance between veronica and Robert to be just okay, nothing special. Allie and Jay are my favorite couple that Nikita Slater has written about and we get some Jay in the book but not much Allie.

Veronica deserves Rob

Veronica has had a rough life she so deserved a happy ending. Rob was my kind of hero. Tough but loving . He didn't care about Veronica's past just wanted to be her future. I love happy ending's!

Plot doesn't make any sense. There was no reason for Robert to want Victoria like that, besides lust. Other than him claiming her at first sight, nothing happened, there is really no plot at all.

weird that a grown-ass man can't recognize VERY obvious signs of psychological trauma in a woman but maybe that's just how men are ?? like he's a gigantic, intimidating man stomping around in a woman's personal space while basically being like "why is she showing signs of fear, as far as i know women have no reason to fear men who are bigger and stronger than them *shrugs*", like,,,, alright,,, hard to believe a man who works security isn't aware of violence towards women.
then again, men can be pretty oblivious to issues that don't directly affect them, so it could be said the characterization of the hero is spot-on.

otherwise a good novella with likable characters. might reread someday, we'll see.
