Grizzly Killer #4

Grizzly Killer: Hell Hath No Fury

Rate this book
The fourth book in the action-packed, best-selling Grizzly Killer series. Early spring 1829 was a cold, starving time for most people in the Rocky Mountains. For Zach Connors and his family, it was the same. Known throughout the mountains as Grizzly Killer, Zach fights the worst mother-nature has to offer to find food, but then he must fight Cheyenne Warriors to bring the treasured buffalo meat back home only to find others have kidnapped his wife and her sister. Benny Lambert has only been in the Rockies a little over a year when others shoot his partner and steal all their furs. Benny is driven to find the renegades and make them pay for what they have done but marauding Blackfeet get in his way. Hell Hath No Fury brings to life the story of both men and their women fighting the elements, their enemies, and coming together to bring justice to the killers, thieves, and hostile Indians that would do them harm.

The Grizzly Killer series continues to be one of the most compelling story's I have had the opportunity to follow! This amazing, and definitely heartwarming, rendition is the masterpiece this far! It was difficult for to put the story aside to eat, or do anything, until the final sentence had been read! Outstanding job by one of the most compelling Author's of old American western folklore adventures!

Definitely another five star composition of unending pleasurable experiences of realistic western adventures from cover to cover! No slow downs, and the entire series of ongoing western excursions will definitely keep you turning pages as quickly as possible, but maintains your undivided attention throughout the entire story!
The Author's compelling storylines are unsurpassed in their vivid descriptiveness of each new encounter that Grizzly Killer, and his associates, faces throughout their ongoing endeavors! Too, as always, Mr. Warenski's successful selection of characters were perfectly selected for their many different encounters! I found myself riding along with these dedicated frontier forerunners, fighting both the white and Red Man, enjoying each and every new encounter!
Most definitely recommend this superbly entertaining revelations of unending adventures, some good , some very disturbing, but every one was worthy of following! Regardless of your reading pleasure, you will find yourselves completely engrossed within the first few pages of this compassionately entertaining revelation of realistically renditions of how I perceived our old American West was finally tamed! I will guarantee you to be completely engrossed from beginning to end!!!😃

This fourth installment of Grizzly Killer was pretty good but the story suffered from pacing issues. A lot of traveling, tracking down the offending Indian war parties, and wondering how everyone's doing back at the camp - broken up sporadically with some brief but exciting action. Plus a few loose ends that never got resolved. It's basically the same plotline that occurs in one form or another in the previous three novels.

In "Hell Hath No Fury" there are two storylines that eventually converge, but in the e-book I read there are no scene breaks and so the point of view gets confusing at times. The structure of the novel could stand some editing. Still, a solid late 1820s mountain man adventure set in the Northern Utah Rockies amidst the fur trade and the early Rendezvous days.

Author Lane Warenski knows his stuff and the details, characters, and scenes are all believable and immersive. If you enjoy nitty gritty western Americas survival tales, this series from Wolfpack Publishing is a good one to jump into. This particular novel, though, I'd rate at 3.5 out of 5 stars.

These are such great stories and gives you a look into life in the untamed wilderness in the 1820’s. Life was harsh but what they valued most was family and the vast country which they lived.

Lane Warenski – Grizzly Killer Bk 4 – Hell Hath No Fury – Reviewed 7-7-21 – Read 7/3-4/21

His family could starve to death if he failed, fight and survive is the only way - Grizzly Killer.

The Indians gave Zach Conners the name Grizzly Killer. His name and his bear claw necklace are widely known across the mountains and even further east. If they don’t know him personally, they surely know him when they spot the necklace, he always wears it.

As we have previously learned, an extremely large silver-tipped grizzly bear killed Zach Conner’s father. He spent his first winter alone with just he and his two best friends, Jimbo, the giant dog that had been abandoned, and his mule, Ol’ Red. Later he found Running Wolf with a broken leg, and the Snake Indians trying extremely hard to kill him. Since then, the pair have been like brothers in every way except by blood. His family has expanded to include Running Wolf, his wife Raven Wing, their son Grey Wolf, Zach’s wives Sunflower, and Shining Star, and his daughter, Morning Star, mostly called Star from his second wife Shining Star.

The winter had been severe and at the last Rendezvous, they had not been able to get all the supplies that they needed to carry them over the winter months. In the region their home is located in, it is so cold that the deer, elk, buffalo, and most of the larger animals migrate to the south, making it more difficult to hunt for sufficient meat to sustain the people there. That is the reason for the great buffalo hunts and food preparations to dry and store as much as possible for the winters. The weather had been so bad that they had not been able to hunt even smaller animals. Now they needed the meat as they are almost out. Zach, Jimbo, and Ol’ Red had to travel far south to find the meat that his family desperately needs. Finally, he found a small herd of buffalo, Zach takes down one. After gutting and skinning, he packs up the meat on his packhorse. As he is washing off at the small pond, he hears Jimbo growl, and the hair on his back raises. He turns and spots a party of riders heading straight for him. Loaded down with the life-saving meat, he knows that he cannot outrun them. So, he takes a chance and shoots another buffalo hoping that they would appreciate the meat. It is not to be so, and the adventure begins.

Join Grizzly Killer as he fights to survive and bring the meat home to his family…

What did I like? Previously I had read the first book, “The Making of a Mountain Man,” and certainly enjoyed it. Later I received book eight, “White Snake,” book nine, “The Trading Post,” book ten, “Spirit Talkers,” book eleven, “Spirits In the Wind,” and for some reason I missed book twelve, but not long ago I finished book thirteen, “Sacred Ground.” Well, I have been telling myself that I wanted to catch up on the series and decided that this weekend I would do it. As everyone knows I am part Native American, I have a special love for them, no matter which tribe. I grew up with the Jemez Indians in New Mexico and have a unique bond with them. This series touches my heart in many ways, not only from the fact that a white man has been accepted within the network of the tribes but because of the values that he passes on to them. They saved him in the past, but he continues to save as many as he can, in the unique way that only Grizzly Killer can do, with friendship and love.

What will you like? This one is really exciting, Zach and Jimbo face the hostile Indians all alone and wonder if they will make it home? But remember this is Grizzly Killer! You will love the descriptions of the new area that he travels to, the new friends that he makes, plus hold your breath for the hostile ones, which make life so interesting. Lane has done it again with the new characters that will take your adventure to new heights. Don’t miss adding this one to your Western Library and I am off to book five, “Where the Buffalo Dance.”

I would have given this book 5 stars if it were not for all the typos and errors in it. I stopped reading it after 7% and then when continuing some months later I stopped again after 10%. I was on the point of trashing it when I decided to just ignore the typos, missing words, double words etc. For an old proofreader, that is not easy, but after that I enjoyed the book very much.
Unfortunately for this book, this is my main review. If I had gotten the book for free as an ARC, I would just have written the author to correct the typos, but I actually paid money for this book. One typo per page is too many, and this book had more than that sometimes. And I am not talking about the places where it was supposed to be grammatically incorrect.

Anyway, Zach Connors, Sunflower, Shining Star, Raven Wing, Running Wolf, Jimbo and Luna makes this book interesting and especially their travels. The author knows what he writes about. You can almost see the environment, feel it, smell it as the story moves along, and it is actually this that makes the books about Grizzly Killer so good.

In this part of the story you will learn how Grizzly Killer added two more to his family. They were learning about the white man and his cities. Plans are made to go visit the town were Grizzly Killer grew up. His life continues to be enriched by babies and young people. The spotted horse continues to haunt him. Life is good. Preparation.

are going forward for their long trip . The Spotted horse continues to haunt his dreams. The Blackfoot Indians are still on the war path to put him under. I have a hard time putting this book down to do my chores.

Emerson into the early mountain west

I have really enjoy the Grizzly Killer series of books. Lane Warenski does an excellent job of keeping the reader interested and excited about what will happen next. To me, his style of writing and descriptions of characters and scenery really puts the reader right in the middle of things. After reading one book, you are looking forward to the next in series.. The only thing I would really like to see be added to the books is a map if where these adventures are taking place.

Jenny's Revenge

This is the first time I've written a review for any of the Grizzly Killer novels - only because I enjoyed them so much that I couldn't wait to get started on the next one. They are absolutely terrific! I didn't read them in order but it didn't make any difference because they were each stand alone great! Would highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys the old west with lots of action and adventure!

Each book in this series has fascinating events, challenging lives and tales of the old west in the early 1800’s. There are raw feelings of white mountain men, mixing with many Indian tribes, seeking furs for trading and meeting people they plan to live their lives with. Men becoming husbands to Indian wives, babies born and harsh life travels throughout the mountains. I love this series and thank the author for excellent writing. Both of us in this household love reading about the old west.

A great Mountain Man story!

Another great story that is historically accurate in regards to weapons, clothing, Native American tribes, beliefs and the plots and characters are very interesting. The story is well written and true to the times. If you are interested in the American Mountain Men and their lives then I highly recommend the Grizzly Killer series by Lane R. Warenski.

Shining Star

I cannot help but feel Shining Star does not have the love of Zack like Sun Flower. There are frequent mentions of her as the first love etc, but poor Shining Star gets no mention of being important and deeply loved by Zack. She is running Wolf's sister after all. Just does not seem right. She had his first child. The special one.

Better and better and better...

Reading this book reminded me of many nights by the fire listening to stories told by my grandfather. I was completely immersed in the story and dad when I reached the end, which was all too soon.

Excellent story!

It sounded true to life. The native Americans were not like us, they measured few things like the European based folks did. Not saying it was better or worse, just different. Don't know if I could be that stoic.

okay

This series of books started better, but the further I get into them, the more I am seeing lots of spelling and grammatical errors, which I feel disrupts the flow of the stories. The first book in the series was the best, so far.

Gramatical Errors

I expect authors to be able write at least at a 7th grade level. The punctuation errors, misused words and phrases made this book an effort to read. Stop using computer programs for editing. Study the English instead. Disappointed
