Excellent

A fabulous read.
Rarely does a book cite Titanic, Nemo DVDs along with Academic texts in the bibliography. This alone is a sparkle - it connects to examples you can relate to quickly.
However, the author has gone beyond - using screenplay writing to tell you how to craft a good story. Fabulous book. Please read it 🙏

Very basic into to storytelling.

This is more an outline than an introduction to how to tell a story. It does a fairly good job of giving ideas on generating ideas on what stories to tell but not much meat on how to develop and perfect the story.

What I Gained

Storytelling: A Guide to How to Tell a Story was helpful to me. From reading some of the other reviews, I was not sure it would be. But, actually, I learned some things from the book about storytelling. For example, I gained a better understanding of how important emotion is to telling a great story. The author stresses the necessity of emotional engagement and offers some simple ways deepen the “feeling” component of a story. Also, I found the discussion on structure to be useful. The author did a good job of summarizing insights from Michael Hauge and Christopher Vogler. Admittedly, as one reviewer states, this part of the book was derivative. But I’m not sure that mattered all that much to me. I was pleased to have the insights of these two great minds presented in an accessible manner. Another benefit I gained from the book was the set of exercises the author details to help generate stories. Bottom line: I learned to make sure my stories incorporate proven structure, express my feelings, and connect with my listeners. I think you will gain from the book as well.

To the one who got astonished that my family gives me a lot of freedom to my whims and then, he even dared to think that it’s something like people give to their cats living in their houses! What do you think now? Who am I? You will never know who I am. To know who I am, you have study story-telling and then you have to study characters. You folks don’t study character-development at all. That’s why your stories can’t hold attention unless there are some fight in it. And then you can’t even imagine fight, so they hire you to spy on the real strong people so that finally you can make up some fight scene. And then you love your fight scenes so well that you plot things here and there to make the real world fights extreme so that you will have a better story to tell. Still, I can put a wager on the fact that you still won’t be able to tell that story properly. Your strong characters will still be that mundane dude with strong sword and a cute girl who can’t walk properly. Because in real life, your male-parts get ashamed if they see strong women whose hearts don’t flutter for you. You have never met a woman whose heart doesn’t have raised beats even when her country is bleeding.

Best, most concise storytelling book for speakers I've seen yet

I have been frustrated by my inability to tell a "good story" for a long time. I read book, after book, but all they seemed to do was convey how important it was to tell a good story, but not really how to do it. Then Amazon suggested this book by James Moore, and within minutes I was hooked. I dropped what I was doing and started writing down his examples, taking notes, and following his exercises. At last! I had a method to unlock the trove of stories, anecdotes and personal parables in my library of experience. I now feel elated at the idea that I can move from explainer to storyteller, 1% at a time.

Useful, compact techniques

For me, this is a five star book on storytelling. It really helped me understand the concepts of a great story in a way that many other books on the craft I've read. Something just "clicked" for me and I finally got it.
I would definitely recommend this book for new and seasoned writers who are looking for a no fluff, to the point, get down to business, example of how to structure a story, and capture a readers attention using emotion, and your own feelings to achieve a great bond with your readers.
Well Done!

So Good

I have read many books on storytelling and always get more confused but this book is the exception!
The author was clear and simplified the structure and key elements of storytelling. I am excited to apply all I learned.

This book isn't organized / structured in a great way, but what it lacks in structure, it makes up for in content. It's packed with insightful information in a very concise way. This book could have been 300 pages long, but it isn't.

Suviše kratko. Jasno. Nije ništa spektakularno. Odlična knjiga za one koji počinju. Odavde kretati u nadogradnju.

Very good information for practical use.

I did like the book but I have read several others on the same topic so I already understood a lot of the basics.

This is the way non-fiction should be!
Concise, engaging and packed with actionable information.
It was so packed I found myself rereading the entire book to mine all the nuggets.

Badly narrated audiobook, full of obvious, truisms and clichés. It’s like a sales pitch not worth the time.

Basic bitch stuff. A perfectly fine outline on how to get going, for beginners. But yeah, nothing to see here. Honestly.
