Former international flight attendant Annie Taylor is embracing her country roots and racing toward a future with her sustainable farmer fiance, but wedding plans are complicated by her new job, a mysterious ex-boyfriend, and a narcissistic father.
Meanwhile, Annie's old-fashioned grandma, Beulah, is facing a shake-up in the last place she ever thought she would--home. A crisis on May Hollow Road follows a friend's betrayal, challenging Beulah's forgiving nature. An unwelcome diet, a new houseguest, and a possible overseas trip will all stretch her spirit--if she lets it.
Granted takes readers from the comforts of the Kentucky countryside to old-world Tuscany with a cast of memorable characters. Granted follows Grounded and Guarded in the May Hollow Trilogy.
Angela Correll is the author of Restored in Tuscany, released March, 2024, along with Grounded, Guarded and Granted, a trilogy of novels that became Amazon bestsellers and have been adapted to the stage for sold-out audiences. She is also co-founder of Wilderness Road Hospitality, a suite of hospitality businesses in Stanford, Kentucky.
I've gotten to know Annie, Beulah, Jake, and the rest of the May Hollow Road crew through reading Grounded, Guarded, and now Granted as well as watching the plays based on the first two books at Pioneer Playhouse. I was tickled to get my hands on an advance copy of this book to catch up with these characters, and devoured it in one day, but then was sad to see the trilogy end.
If you have not read the first two books, I would recommend doing so before picking up Granted. The storyline arches over the entire trilogy and the characters grow and develop with each book. Spoiler alert! Grounded starts with Annie, a flight attendant in NYC, being grounded from flying and returning to stay with her grandmother in Kentucky. While home, she falls in love with her childhood friend and neighbor, Jake. In Guarded, Annie discovers letters dating from WWII and flees to Italy to both investigate these mysterious letters and to consider the future of her relationship with Jake. Now, in Granted, Annie and Jake plan their wedding, bringing together their Italian and Kentucky friends and family.
These are sweet books with a little humor and romance--and a whole lot of Kentucky heart! As a Kentucky girl, born and bred, I appreciate the nods to local traditions, phrases, the practice of sustainable farming, and to some of my favorite eateries (such as Dudley's Restaurant in Lexington and the Bluebird Café in Stanford).
I first became familiar with Angela Correll's writing back in 2013 with her first book in this May Hollow series, GROUNDED. In that story, we met Annie, a flight attendant who went back to Kentucky after losing her job due to an airline buyout and a bad breakup. Annie returns to Kentucky to take care of her grandmother who needs help after surgery. The story continues in the second addition to the series, GUARDED. At this point, Annie has begun a new life in Kentucky and finds a stack of letters in the old farmhouse that leads her on a new adventure she never would have expected.
In GRANTED, readers pick up right where GUARDED left off with Annie preparing for her wedding to her childhood friend, Jake. Her grandma, Beulah, is doing well and Annie and Jake are preparing to move into the old farmhouse after renovations are complete. Things get a bit stressful when Annie's new job isn't what she imagined and Beulah's friend has a heart attack. Wedding plans seem to be a low priority with everything going on until Jake has a great idea and Annie's Italian family has the perfect setting for a wedding.
Even though this book stands alone and gives you enough background information from the previous books, I think readers would benefit from reading the whole series. Correll takes great care in developing her characters in this small community in Kentucky so that the readers feel a part of the community as well. Correll feels strongly about her faith and makes that a part of all her novels. Correll also has a passion for sustainable farming and especially in Granted, it becomes a new focus for Annie and Jake.
This addition to the May Hollow series is just as delightful as the previous ones. You are more invested in the characters in GRANTED and care when they are hurting and struggling. When Annie and Jake finally get married, you feel as proud and happy as Beulah and the other family members attending. Correll's addition of Annie's father adds a story of forgiveness that can be inspiring to those who have been hurt or disappointed by someone they love.
If you need a feel-good story that is realistic, yet inspiring, check out the May Hollow series of books. I'm a fan of Correll's writing but, she isn't just a fantastic author. Correll is the owner of several businesses. Someday, I'm hoping to stop by Stanford, Kentucky to visit her shop, cafe, and bed and breakfast.
Love Angela Correll and this series set in Kentucky. Must read! I only wish my sweet Aunt Bennie were still here, so we could have book club & discuss. Aunt Bennie got me hooked on book 1, Grounded. Don’t miss the books into plays each summer at Pioneer Playhouse. They are excellent too!
P.39 "Cold weather is good for books." p.69 "January, the blessed month of second chances." p.129 "He had so many opportunities to choose love, but instead he runs away." P. 166 "Do you know where that saying comes from? (bride) The old is something significant and sacred to the family and represents what you are leaving behind. Keeping the old item in your new life is a reminder of your heritage. The new item represents the new challenges you are taking on as a married woman. The borrowed item represents the steadfast affection of someone who will be with you during the transition. The color blue represents purity." p.187 "Your non-negotiables. Then, measure everybody to that standard." p.209 "Scott performed the ceremony quoting First Corinthians 13. It was the same passage Beulah and Fred had chosen to have read at their wedding so many years ago. P.239 President Lyndon B. Johnson once said it's nice to live in a place "where people know when you are sick, love you while you are alive, and miss you when you die."
I met Jake and Annie in "Grounded", got better acquainted in "Guarded" and couldn't wait to read the next part of their story in "Granted"! One of my favorite things about the May Hollow Trilogy is the fact that it's so "real-life Kentucky". I'm an artist and my art teacher says that a "timeless" painting happens when "the universal becomes specific". That's the way I feel about these books. My friend's name may not be "Beulah" but otherwise Angela describes her to a T! The soupbeans, cornbread and sweat tea is a meal that I eat. The landscapes that are talked about describe my neighborhood.
I stayed up late reading this one and when I finished I wanted to go visit them. 🙂
I can't even describe all the emotions I'm feeling after finishing the book Granted, and they are all good! This is such a heartwarming ending to the May Hollow Trilogy and it's my favorite of the three books. Filled with all the familiar lovable and sometimes quirky characters, it's like a visit back home. Angela is a great storyteller and her love of Kentucky, traditions and faith shine through with great Southern charm. I loved the whole series and can't wait to travel to wherever her next book takes us!
Once again she has provided us with a story that transports you to Kentucky. Her descriptions of everything make you feel like you are there experiencing everything with all of your senses. This book will also take a look back to the past, to a time of war, to young love, to a foreign country where you may not know the language or ever been but you will feel like you know this place & have a desire to go back once you have made the journey through her story. It will leave you wanting another.
Such a heartwarming wand beautiful end to the May Hollow Trilogy. Angela Correll's writing style is engaging and warm. She brings the reader squarely into the setting with vivid descriptions of characters and places.
Start at the beginning, if you can, though each book can be read on its own. Having the big picture and full background makes the stories so much more enjoyable.
This is a Christian series, and for me, the Bible references were perfect in both quality and quantity.
The 3rd in the May Hollow trilogy, I enjoyed this read maybe even more than the first 2. Angela Correll has developed the characters and the setting so well, it feels like I’ve befriended Annie and Jake, Lindy, and even Beulah and Betty. I found this series particularly good because I could relate so well to the setting since I’m a KY girl myself and am familiar with the region that inspired the town in these books.
I was fortunate to be chosen for the launch team for this book so I was able to get a copy early. I'm a big fan of Angela's and this trilogy warms the heart. The description of the community and the characters is so clear, I can picture the places and the people in my mind as I read. I loved that we got closure to Annie and Beulah's stories and that loose ends were tied up. I definitely recommend this series as fun, lighthearted, clean reading.
The third book in the May Hollow Trilogy was full of Kentucky sweetness as were the first two books. The author does a wonderful job of capturing small town Kentucky lifestyle.
It's definitely at the top of my list for books I enjoyed reading in 2018. You are sure to be moved (as I was) by the sense of family, love and friendship that the people of May Hollow have for each other.
Angela Correll is living the dream! Now that Mama D's Pizzeria in Stanford has opened to a raging success, Beulah can have a quality Italian meal without........ spoiler alert!!! Read this trilogy!!!! Visit Stanford, Kentucky!!!
Another great story...I won't lie, I teared up at the end and was sorry to finish this trilogy. Because the stories are based on my hometown, it WAS like going home.
I enjoyed Angela Correll's storytelling ability. I sincerely hope she writes more books!
Bittersweet to finish this trilogy. I wanted to make it last as long as possible yet couldn’t wait to start each book. Wonderful Kentucky setting, with a little bit of Italy, the best characters, and an inspirational message made these some of my favorite and most highly recommended books.
The author left a recorded message for us to listen to in our book club. Her book was simple and fun to read. Her home town sounds like a great place to visit.
I think I have a new favorite contemporary author! These books are PERFECT vacation reads. They are entertaining without being stressful, emotional without being tear-jerkers, quick reads without lacking in, well, anything! I am thoroughly impressed. All of the characters are realistic and so likeable in their normalcy. Nothing feels forced or rushed. Everything feels authentic in a setting that could very easily feel cheesy and stereotypical. Please tell me there are going to be companion books for Lindy and Stella and maybe Luca! I need more from the May Hollow bunch!
