Wingmen #6

The Last Wingman

Rate this book
The Last Wingman is a standalone enemies to lovers romance.

Jonah Kingston is the last wingman standing.
June Moxee doesn't care if he's the last man on earth.

I haven't exactly avoided relationships, but love has never been a priority. Solitude doesn't bother me and being alone doesn't mean being lonely. Until she moved to the island and I had to reconsider everything.

June seems content running her yarn shop, knitting with the local church ladies, and avoiding me. She's a temptress in a hand-knit sweater. And for some reason, she's not a fan of mine. It might be the tattoos. Or the beard. Or the fact that we're polar opposites.

A woman has finally caught my attention. Too bad she thinks she hates me. Good thing I'm stubborn enough to try to change her mind.

The Last Wingman is a standalone, small town rom com in the Wingmen series. You do not have to read the previous books first to enjoy this book.

This book ends at 91%. There are two bonus chapters included from previous Wingmen books.

I am left adrift. So sad this is the last Wingmen novel, but what a great ending to the series!! A loner bear and a prickly pear. Loved how they took their time and opened up to each other, also LOVED (as I always do) the mostly male POV that Daisy Prescott does so well. Funny, witty, bittersweet, a fantastic end to this addictive series.

My Review:

I was largely unfamiliar with the Wingman set yet I smirked my way through this last and end of an era volume to what appears to be a cleverly amusing rom/com series. Reading the finale had me coveting the previous installments as their small-town appears to be populated by a large sector of the quirkiest citizens living in the free world. Written from a first person POV of Jonah, a heavily tattooed, pierced, and bearded man in black who was adorable, unexpectedly sweet, and thoughtfully insightful. His crush on the prickly yet vividly colorful June was delightfully narrated in his inner musings. I enjoyed the witty levity, endearingly awkward main characters, frequent Harry Potter references, and engaging storylines. I’m a smitten kitten for the Wingmen.

This is the last book in the Wingmen Series by Daisy Prescott but it can definitely be read as a standalone.

I have to say that I am surprised that I have not read this series before. The first and only book I have read by this author was from the Cocktales collection of novellas. I had really enjoyed reading that novella so I am hitting myself for not having ventured into her books more.

The Last Wingman was such an enjoyable read. Packed full of joy and an amazing cast of secondary characters from the previous books, this book was so good! It has honestly made me so curious to read the other five books.

Since this is my first book from the series, I was really surprised by Jonah. He gave off this really bad boy image with his piercings and tattoos but he such an awkward super nerd...and I freaking flipped out over him.
Surprisingly, I did not like June at the beginning. Then I thought perhaps I was judging her too soon but then she kept 'disappointing me' with her attitude. But as the story progressed I started realising that June truly has a tender romantic heart. I mean, I should have known because she knits, you guys! like duh! lol!

To be honest, these two characters are a walking talking conundrums.
Jonah, a perfect example of 'don't judge a book by it's cover'. As a Potterhead myself, when he referenced Harry Potter, I squealed with happiness!
June, a beautiful, funny, kind enigma of contrasts.

The Last Wingman is told entirely in the POV of Jonah and I really enjoyed it so much. It's always refreshing to read a romance novel from a guy's perspective because normally it's either from the POV of the woman or a dual POV.

The Last Wingman has been a wonderfully strange yet romantic book.
Just like the characters, this book is;
A Good Strange.
A Quirky Strange.
A Nerdy Strange.
A Perfect Strange for a booknerd like me.

Happy Reading!

Gah I love Daisy’s books. Every one I read just gets better and better and this one sure was amazing. This is the very last wingman novel and I’m so sad that such a great series is finished.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

I have a huge amount of love over this book being in Jonah’s POV, I absolutely enjoy a male’s POV throughout a story instead of it being the woman. It’s different, it’s fun and I absolutely love that man.

Jonas is an amazing man. He’s covered in tattoos and piercing’s and loves a good business adventure. He’s constantly judged by the way he looks but doesn’t really mind until a certain someone comes around all judgey. He’ll do anything to show her just how wrong she really is about him. June annoyed me at the start with her nose stuck in the air and judging him without knowing Jim properly.

Watching their relationship or whatever you want to call it grow was so much fun. I loved that Jonah proved she was wrong, I love that he’s deep and caring and not easily pushed away. He’s one of my favourite men and I’m so sad this book is over.

Also, love love LOVE the Harry Potter loving in this beauty, we all love some Harry Potter.

I’m a huge fan of Daisy Prescott and her books. She always delivers a story that captivates toy from the begging to the end. The Last Wingman was fun, adorable and interesting to read. I do enjoy a book that goes from dislike to love. My favourite kind.

It's the turn of the last wingman.

I'll just get two things out of my hair:
A) I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
B) this cover is awesome. However, I own the old printed versions of this series. Thus, my OCD suffers greatly.

Okey dokey, let's begin!
I've heard of Daisy Prescott years ago. I've purchased her books to read a year and a half ago. I've read a book of hers some months ago and I enjoyed it greatly.
I've been intending to read the wingman series this year. When I received an ARC of The Last Wingman I knew it was high time to breeze through the series and breeze I did.

You can read the books in this series as standalones. You really can. But you don't want to. Because, dwelling into the wingman world with its wonderful set of characters, delicious males, small town vibe, sweet romance and quirky wits is just so much better.

This book has everything that makes a Daisy Prescott book so good!
1) Male POV (when done right I prefer those, and Daisy does it right)
2) sexy delicious male who makes your toes curl and is not an asshole, but still so manly
3) an interesting female. She's herself, she's quirky, she's difficult at times, she's awesome
4) a slow burn great love story full of steamy moments and funny moments and quirky moments and warming moments.
5) but while this book is mainly drama free you know Jonas and June love will endure and face everything. You know because you see the foundation of their love, and you see it put up a little important test.

Read this book, go get yourself a wingman.

*Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

The Last Wingman is the story of Jonah and June. Jonah is the beared and pierced and tattooed looking bad boy (who is really not a bad boy in the least) and June is the adorably quirky owner of the local yarn shop who I’m 100% sure buys her entire wardrobe off of ModCloth.

I do like Jonah and his story with June however, I do wish that we got a little bit of June’s point of view. Not to say that Jonah’s wasn’t good. It was. I enjoyed it. But I feel like the story would have been a bit more complete if we were able to get even the smallest glimpse into what June was thinking or how she was feeling about everything, especially when they first started interacting with each other and when they got into their fight.

I loved the setting. I have such a weakness for little island towns and their locals. Anytime there is a book with a summer beach town, sign me up. I adore those settings and they just make my little heart so happy. It makes me wish I was living there and in my opinion, it makes the story that much more enjoyable.

Overall, it was a decent read. I managed to get through it in a day and it was pretty interesting. Jonah and June were cute and will probably have the most adorable hipster wedding one day in the future.

Lessons learnt: Always double check the background settings and characters' features before diving in a standalone from part of a series.

The Last Wingman is a standalone contemporary romance novel in the Wingmen series, each instalment featuring a different main character's love life. Honestly, I didn't pay as much attention to this book as I planned because I made a mistake for not doing enough background research before picking this up. In other words, the overall story setting and character development weren't what I had in mind when reading the synopsis; hence, I ended up not really enjoying the story. In order not to mislead any of you, I'd like to state that the following opinions are my own and they're based on my personal preference of a contemporary story. There's nothing wrong or poorly-written about the book at all.

The reason I wasn't fully fond of the story was mainly because of the male protagonist, Jonah. He was a 35-year-old single, heavily-tattooed/pierced, and beardy guy living on an island most of his life. This image of a potential love interest was clearly not whom I'd pictured. Don't get me wrong, Jonah was still a lovely, considerate, sweet guy in the book, and his romantic development with June was beyond adorable on so many levels. It was just that I found it hard to immerse myself in their love story with such an unattractive picture in mind. Thus, I pretty much stopped actually-reading the book when I was about a few chapters in.

Despite my personal dislike for the male character, I'd still recommend this book to those who love a light romantic read! Hopefully you'll have a better time with Jonah and June on a beautiful island!

Opening The Last Wingman felt like walking into a coffee shop on an island you love, where you had to leave town because of worldly stuff but have returned, only to be embraced in full by the friends you left behind. Oh. Wait. That’s exactly what happened. <3

Jonah and June are adorable. Daisy Prescott finally shows us Jonah, in full, a contemplative soul with a simmering need for quirky, sweet June. Yet another Wingman book that touches all the feel-good places inside a reader, but zeroes in on the best one: the heart.

Looks can be deceiving. Something Jonah Kinston knows all too well. What happens when the bad boy with the heart of gold falls for the quirky girl who seems to dislike him? Can he make her see he is more than his image?
A slow burn about love, and how to see beyond the outside and accept the person within.
Knit one, purl two, and repeat.
A charming tale of dropped stitches, sweet moments, and a perfect end to the Wingman series.

Last year I had the opportunity to read my first Daisy Prescott novel, Tinfoil Heart (you can read that review here). I am such a huge fan of quirk that I made a note to try to read more of her novels. I lost the note, but not the name.

The Last Wingman is the last in her Wingmen series, and, no, I haven’t read the others, but that didn’t spoil this experience for me.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

"We're not exactly friends, but I don't think we're enemies either, This thought makes me happy."

The Last Wingman by Daisy Prescott is the final edition to her Wingman series. It can be read as a standalone, since each book focuses on a different couple.

Jonah with his tattoos, piercings and multiple business adventures tends to stay clear of relationships even though all his friends around him have found significant others. People tend to judge him by his looks and that happens to be the case with yarn store owner June. He is determined to get her to like him by showing her that he is way different from what meets the eye. For every opposite preference he finds something they have in common, but can June let her walls down long enough to see the good under his hipster exterior.

This dislike to love romance is filled with crass knitting puns, nerdy greatness and Harry Potter lovin'. My inner fan girl was geeking out left and right between Jonah and June. Jonah was swoon worthy with his good looks and big heart. June was adorable but I took a little while to warm up to her. Her constant judging of everything Jonah did or said got old after a while. Together they were really great together when June loosened up a bit, even their love making was sweet and caring. Another thing I love about this series is the fact thats its told completely from the point of view of the male lead. I love seeing it from a male's prospective and having them be as flustered over crushes and nervous over first kisses as females can be.

It's bittersweet feeling having finished the very last Wingman novel. This group of characters with their beards, quirky uniqueness and cheeky humor has become family. The Wingman series is one I will be rereading again in the future to say hello to old friends.

"There's no other side. Just me." [...] "Same Jonah. I'm multi-layered. Like a cake. Or a seven layer dip." "June?" I tip her chin up with my index finger.

I love Daisy Prescott’s quirky, unique sense of humor and have thoroughly enjoyed every installment in the Wingmen series. This is the sixth and final book in the series, and although I am sad to say goodbye to this eclectic cast of memorable characters and fun setting, the series is ending on a high note with The Last Wingman.

Based on their physical appearances, Noah and June are complete opposites. He wears almost only black and has piercings and tattoos, while she dresses in vibrantly colored clothes with an eccentric flare. They’re both small business owners on the island of Whidbey, Washington, and they both don’t get close to people easily. They don’t get along when they first meet, but Jonah quickly develops a crush on June and hopes to soften her feelings toward him. He’s both adorable and sexy as he quietly pursues her and shows her the man behind his rough exterior, and he might be my favorite of all Prescott’s Wingman but don’t make me choose. He and June’s courtship is leisurely-paced and absolutely heartwarming, and you cannot walk away from this book without feeling entertained and satisfied. Also, how adorable is this cover?

Jonah is like an onion with all his differentieel layers. Throughout the book you get to know all the different sides of him. June was a mystery in the beginning but turned out to be the Ginny to his Harry. I'm still not used to reading from solely his POV. It's an adjustment. I love all the references to Harry Potter which was one of the first series I read. It made me fall in love a little more with books and magic. This is a sweet read which is a nice change for me.

I think Jonah just brings out the best in his woman, “I can’t believe I blurted that out. For the record , I’ve had ***.” She moans and tilts her head back, focusing on the ceiling. “Way to make this more awkward.” Jonah is just an honest man, “please don’t make me beg. I would. I’m not above begging, but I’m trying to play it cool.” Hey if his girl wants to try new experiences, Jonah is all for it, "I suck in a breath through my teeth as I harden in her grip. “No, but I’m willing to try new things.” I pull her forward and swallow her mouth in a kiss." I liked this book, and I loved how unique June was.

The Last Wingman is a nice ending to a series that I really loved. This is the story of Jonah and June and it is told from Jonah's point of view. Many of the other characters are back and the story feels like a family reunion to me. The writing is good and the character development is okay. It would have been better to get a little more insight into June. At one point her and Jonah get into a fight and she leaves the island only to come back later (a week +) and apologize. We don't know where she went or what made her change her stance. It would have helped endear her to me more to know her reasons or her understanding. Other than that, I really liked the story and I'm going to miss reading new stories about the characters that I've grown to love. Well recommended.

Loved. Loved. Loved. Loved The Last Wingman! It is a gloriously final course to Daisy Prescott’s Wingmen Series. If you haven't made the journey through these wonderful books, you are missing an amazing collection of stories. Through her words, Daisy is an extraordinary tour guide, letting her readers experience the beauty of her beloved Pacific Northwest, through they of her characters. If I close my eyes, I can just smell the salt air with with hints of garlic knots...

Jonah Kingston has been elusive throughout the series, but here we get to know him. Really, really know him. He’s more than the hipstery coffee guy with his body a canvas of ink. He is a man who loves his community, poetry and pinball. Even beyond that he has a heart that is bigger and kinder than anyone could imagine. I absolutely adored him.

At first blush, June Moxee, the proprietress of a yarn shop is the island sweetheart in the making. But like Jonah, but beneath her lovely dresses, fabulous glasses and delightful puns is a complex woman who has so much to give.

Together they are as magical as the place that they call home. With more stops than starts, Jonah and June's road to HEA has some bumps, as they are on the island. With each turn, I fell harder and harder for not only this couple but everyone around them.

I am not sad that this is the final book, I am happy to have experienced all these characters. I can say without a doubt each one of the books in the Wingmen series has a very special place in my heart. I know that whenever I need to take a trip to the PNW, I have the power to do so at my fingertips. That's the beauty of reading, friends.

Happy reading.

And the last wingman falls -- how very satisfying! Jonah has been a background character in this series, and I was really looking forward to getting to know him. Up to this point, I only knew superficial things about him. And that is the point of this whole book. We know superficial things about the people we see and meet, but we think that we can size them up based on looks or clothes or a one-minute interaction.
Jonah has been dealing with this for his whole life. He admits that he has always been an outsider and observer. Events beyond Jonah's control reinforced his personality. Now he is friendly but a loner. His friends have paired off and are having babies, but he knows that will never happen for him.
He is surprised by his attraction to June. He says that they are "opposite ends of the spectrum." That's obvious just from the few things he knows about her. June agrees with this assessment. But as they begin to spend time together, they surprise each other several times. Some surprises are more pleasant than others, but they finally realize that they complement each other perfectly.

The Last Wingman is the last book in Daisy Prescott’s series and it’s absolutely bittersweet. Getting to know all these incredible characters that live on Whidbey Island will truly be missed.
We have waited to see our last Wingman get his story and Jonah & June is the cherry on top of the sundae.
Jonah Kingston is a man that definitely has the looks can be deceiving vibe but what’s underneath is more than you can ever have expected. A successful businessman, a closet nerd & Potterhead, and a man who has a heart bigger then you would ever expect.
June Moxee is quirky in her own way. She owns the local yarn shop, participates in a knitting circle with the church ladies, plays trivia every week and keeps to herself but she also has a total misunderstanding of who Jonah is.
When they both decide to stop circling one another and become more you can’t help see how they have more in common then not and give in to the chemistry. You can’t help but cheer them on and hope they can find that HEA and become another happy couple on Whidbey Island.

This is my first wingman book and I’m defiantly going to go back to read from book 1, not because I feel lost or because it’s missing anything but because this group of friends are EVERYTHING!

Jonah and June started off rocky and I honestly couldn’t understand June’s hesitancy with Jonah, but as he started to break down her walls I grew to love June and she was the perfect match for the needy bad boy!

The world or island that Daisy created is so amazing and I love how you can’t help but feel apart of them! The town, the people all of it just feels so real!

Amazing book and I can’t wait to go back and discover all the wingmen!

Just like the title suggests, it’s the last book in the Wingmen series. I did not read the previous books so I did feel I lost some of the small town history. It took a bit for me to like the heroine. And despite not knowing a bunch of couples and their history, I really liked this set of characters to want to fast track bk 1 Ready to Fall up the mighty tbr mountain.

The last wingman standing, Jonah has finally found his match, the quiet and very intriguing June who seemed not to share his feelings.

Jonah was such a mysterious man, who people used to judge from his looks and also about the multiple business he was running. I have a sweet spot for nerds and add the sexiness and tattoos, well I was sold. And it was only the beginning. He was quiet, caring for his family, friends and also for his community. I really appreciated this character, with his quietness, peaceful strength and getting his reservations about falling in love, how it destroyed his family.

June was also a complex character. Totally hostile to Jonah and avoiding him like the plague. Introvert, a mystery to her friends and family. Very secretive about her life, contrasting with her colorful looks and fancy clothes. It felt like she’d rather spend times with knitting friends and quietness than going wild and spontaneous.

They seemed like the unmatched couple ever but still they had more and in common and complimentary than they would have thought. It was the kind of story when it wasn’t love at first sight. The characters took time to make their relationship blossom and opened up to each other with such straightforwardness leading to some awkward moments. It totally love their dynamic, with tons of nerdy puns. Sweet and hot.

Knowing that the series has finally come to an end it made me a little sad and bittersweet, because I got attached to Whidbey and all the lumberjacks, the colorful characters who loved to gossip and to protect their community. A story told in a male POV who made me smile so much, witty and rambles about a man who have found love and went for it. Be prepared to laugh a lot, to have fun watching Jonah falling in love.

If you like your romances nice and slow, this is the perfect book for you. This isn't the kind of love story that jumps right in with the heat. this one establishes a solid foundation of love/hate trivia nights and Airstreams before diving in to the "good stuff". Jonah and June are such a sweet couple. Both are content in their lives and aren't looking for romance, which makes their story even more sweet. By Jonah's description you would think he is the ultimate bad boy. Tattooed and pierced, he fits the description to a T. But nothing could be further from the truth. Jonah is the quintessential Don't Judge a Book By the Cover, cover model. At times I had to laugh that a guy so in tune with himself and those around him could be so clueless about how to act around June. It made him even more endearing. It just goes to show, that guys aren't mind readers and it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and take a chance on someone who couldn't care less if you even existed when you first met.
June was one I wish we had gotten more inside her head. I would have loved to have known exactly what she was thinking when Jonah found her in the woods, or been with her while she made fairy doors. She is complicatingly whimsical...that is the only phrase I can think of that fits her. She feels deeply, isn't afraid to venture on her own and forge her own path, yet has a vulnerability about her that only adds to her moxy.
Overall, I really liked Jonah and June's story and I cannot believe I came in so late to the Wingman world. Daisy's storytelling is refreshing and I cannot wait to read more of her

I am both happy and sad after reading this last in the Wingmen series by Daisy Prescott. I’ve enjoyed every word from these sexy bearded gents and Jonah’s story is the perfect way to say farewell, even if I don’t really want to!

Once again, we get Prescott’s unmistakable wit as Jonah tries his hardest to both impress and get to know the mysterious June. They seemingly come from different worlds but I’d have to say their charming quirkyness is what makes them all kinds of perfect together. The barista and the yarn store owner find a sweet kind of rhythm as they start to spend some time getting to know one another and it’s full of mirth and surprise.

Of course, the entire Whidbey crew is on hand for both support and a bit of teasing. But in the end, the love they all have for one another is what sets this series apart. All of them continue to want the very best for their Island home and that means accepting newcomers like June, making her feel like a part of the crew and loaning a hand or twelve when it comes to opening a new business, like Jonah’s center for the youth of the Island.

Theirs is a slow burn kind of romance that is light on the angst meter but is extremely enjoyable and easy to read. I was happy to see June open up a bit and change her standoffish ways that had me questioning her worthiness at first for a great guy like Jonah. But Prescott managed to sway me as Jonah sets her straight wrt his appearance and his dedication to the life he lives and she finally understands and cheers him on.

A wonderful way to say so long to good friends and family, I give The Last Wingman a solid 4 stars!

This is a bittersweet review to write, because I love this series and I'm so sad it's coming to a close!

Jonah and June are quite the pair. June tries to keep her distance from Jonah, citing their being polar opposites as the reason, but she quickly finds out that it's not right to judge a book by its cover. These two did this terrific dance around one another that was both comical and, truthfully, annoying at times. I wanted to reach inside the book and shake them both sometimes because they're so freaking perfect for each other.

I love Jonah. He's his own person, he marches to a drum nobody else does, and he's got such an amazing personality. He's funny, determined, and he cares and gives back to his community. Honestly, I don't think Prescott could have given us a more perfect book boyfriend with this one. I love how he persisted in getting to know June, even when there's no indication that she feels the same way.

I liked June a lot too, but she did get on my nerves a little. The whole judgy thing doesn't sit well with me, but she redeemed herself and the more I got to know her as a character, the more I enjoyed her. Plus she makes Jonah happy and hey, that makes us readers happy too!

This book has everything that I've come to know I can count on in a Prescott novel: friendship, comical moments, times when I thought my heart was going to flutter right out of my chest, and a plot that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside long after reading.

My favorite thing about the wingmen books (aside from the men themselves) has always been the world that Prescott created on Whidbey Island. This is easily one of the best worlds I've ever read. There's this relatively small, tight-knit community that just feels like home to read about. Prescott writes so good that I literally felt like I was walking the streets of Whidbey. The cast of characters is amazing. Each one has his/her quirks and plays a role in the big scheme of things. Secondary characters are just as important as the primary ones. And having read the whole series, I knew the history behind the different characters and how they fit into the puzzle. This book can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest going back to the beginning and starting there. This series is so good, you don't want to miss out.

It pains me to bid farewell to these guys, but I am looking forward to seeing what Daisy cooks up for us next!

The Last Wingman gets the Wordaholic Must Read seal of approval.

Jonah and June are just the best. They're #relationshipgoals. They are gentle and kind and perfect for each other and their journey to come together is everything I want to read in a romance novel! The Last Wingman is a leisurely walk down lover's lane to arrive at one of the sweetest, brightest, truest, happily-ever-afters I've ever read! Jonah is a nerd covered in tattoos and piercings. He's the poster boy for "Don't Judge a Book by It's Cover." And, he's just what June needs most.

Because this is the final book in the Wingman Series, this book also gave me some tears. Not that this story is sad, it's not at all! But, I will miss John, Tom, Dan, Jonah and the Kelso brothers! They've been such a welcome and wonderful part of my reading and blogging journey over the last few years. While I will miss them terribly, the beauty of books is that they will always be there for me, just as they are, when I want to go back for a visit. And, isn't that part of what's wonderful about books? We can read, relate to and love these characters. It is like we build our own relationship with each of them particularly in a really wonderful series that builds such a strong sense of place and the vibe of a whole island and its' people.

The Last Wingman is receiving a rare 6-Rating on BFF Book Blog because it completely illustrates everything that I have loved about this series. It is warm, cozy, heart-felt, full of friendship, quirks and incredible characters. It will have a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf. If you haven't read The Wingmen Series, now is the time to start. Spend some time in Whidbey with the Wingmen and their lady loves. You won't regret a minute of your stay! Godspeed to my fictional friends.
