Boy Toy: A Romantically Challenged Novel

Rate this book
For fans of Sophie Kinsella and Jane Green comes a novel of modern love.

Sabrina Mayerson is turning 40, and all she wants for her birthday is one night of hot, sweaty, twenty-something sex. Twenty-eight-year old Andrew Whelan is happy to oblige. But when one night becomes a weekend, and a weekend turns into a relationship, Sabrina knows she's in trouble. Because Sabrina's desire for Andrew is rivaled only by her desire for a child. And the responsibility of fatherhood is something Andrew definitely does not want.

Sure, Andrew's young, and maybe he'll change his mind . . . in time. But time is the one thing Sabrina cannot give him. Her clock is ticking and forcing her to choose--the love of her life or motherhood.

With colorful characters, pitch-perfect dialogue, razor-sharp observations, and her signature wit, Beth Orsoff crafts a modern love story for every grown-up who's ever fallen for a Peter Pan.

Three and a half stars.

What do you do if you are about to turn 40, you're divorced, no boyfriend and your biological clock is chiming? Go on a weekend break to Napa with your BFF and snag the cute 20 something bartender that's what, if your name is Sabrina Mayerson.

This was a great lighthearted beach read for me (late Autumn holiday), watching Sabrina juggle her inhouse legal job for a San Francisco tech firm with her budding relationship with Andrew, said 28 year old boy toy and her desire for a baby was funny and poignant.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Girl meets boy, girl sleeps with boy (even though she’s not that kind of girl), girl falls for boy even though she doesn’t want to… because girl wants a baby… but boy does not. That’s when things REALLY get interesting and the plot moves in ways I didn’t expect. Boy Toy kept me guessing until the very end. And it was a very satisfying end! Buy this book and read it. You will be glad you did.

I am not sure what it is but I am always connected to people with similar names to me whether it be in the cooking/baking world, book world, out in the real world, whatever it maybe I am always connected in some way to them, Beth Orsoff is a real genius this book is just too great, there are so many amazing, fun, and great moments, but then are just so many moments were you just feel for Sabrina, she has been dealt so many tough crappy times, her ex-husband is a real jerk, don't get me started there! What a jerk! You'll see, I can not imagine??? Let's talk Andrew, even though he is so young, he is a "boy toy", that word doesn't do it for me? It sounds harsh, what I mean is, it doesn't sound good, Andrew is so much better than that, he is just a great guy, from the moment we meet him, he pulls me in, how he treat Sabrina, or maybe I see through it all? I am drawn to his character, he is just seem too great, I love Andrew, he is respectful, you don't find people like him very often, he just treats Sabrina so kind, maybe I just get where Sabrina is in her life, her life style, age, Team Andrew all the way, I'll always root for him. I was contacted by the author to give an honest review. I am new to Beth's writing & I will be going to check out the 1st book in the series. Such a great read, I was so sad when it was over, it was a quick read for me, and I couldn't put it down, you are pulled into Sabrina's world, chaotic at times, demanding too & yes this book had a HEA ending. Love the cover, I know how addictive those candy hearts can be, see how in my thought Beth is playing off the cover verses what happens in the book? Just how I see it??! Can't wait to see what else Beth will write in the future? ( ;

I know I am going to be the minority here, but this was jus a meh read for me. I thought I was going to love it since, I am turning 40 soon.
I thought it was going to funny and cute, but I was a little bored with it to be honest. I think Sabrina and I started off on the wrong foot. I didn't really like her character at first. They way she came across was a little snobbish to Andrew. That set my tone for her throughout the rest of the book.

The book kicks off with us meeting the protagonist, Sabrina. She’s turning forty and the Silicon Valley corporate lawyer is celebrating by spending a weekend with her best friend Gillian in Napa Valley. Needless to say, wine is consumed. Sabrina’s reasonably happy with her career, but her personal life, not so much. That becomes apparent as you get to know a bit about her ex-husband (aka “the lying bastard”) and she ruminates on her desire to become a mother, but the lack of viable father candidates is a concern.

Enter Andrew, the man serving up drinks at the winery where Sabrina and Gillian are currently hanging out. He’s too young and in a completely different place in life than Sabrina, but when the sparks fly a short fling doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, right?

As you should be able to guess, things get complicated. Then they get even more complicated. Then they get … well, you get the picture. How all of this happens and subsequently gets resolved is humorous (since it is happening to someone else), entertaining, and a fun read.

This is one of those rare five stars for me. There was nothing cheesy or boring about Boy Toy whatsoever. Which, admittedly, is what I thought it was going to be. It's the kind of book that you can read in the span of a few hours and not feel that time go by. It was very light hearted and fun. I really enjoyed it.

Sabrina's sister is such a b****!! I mean who does that?! I'm not going to go into specifics since this is a spoiler free review, but what. the. hell. She is the exact opposite of Sabrina, who is kind, smart and thoughtful. Who can do something as bad as that and then pretend like they're the ones who are hurt? Don't even get me started on Sabrina's mother, if we can even call her that!

Anyway, everything ...... https://bookishowlette.wordpress.com/

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
