About the author

I grew up in the heart of Dublin with my parents and older brother. Being a professional eavesdropper from an early age, I always loved to write about the things I heard and would exaggerate them into proper stories! I spent my childhood devouring books and vowing some day I'd write one myself. But life had other things in mind and after spending 15 years working in a bank, I subsequently left to be at home with my four children. Having lost a lot of confidence in my own ability, it seemed my dream of writing a book was moving further and further away from me. When my youngest started school four years ago and I finally had some 'me' time, I decided to pursue that dream. After having a few short stories published, I eventually got myself an agent and very quickly had a two book deal. My first book, Any Dream Will Do, was published in November 2011 and my latest one, The Terrace, is out now, August 2012. I adore writing and feel like the luckiest person in the world to wake up every morning and live my dream.

Three and a half stars.
Twins Ronnie and Elizabeth had been not only sisters but best friends as children. But then it all fell apart and they became estranged. Ronnie has never been exactly sure what happened to change Elizabeth. When their mother Belinda dies, Elizabeth and Ronnie find out about their father who they have never known. Their mother’s plan is for them to travel to New York together. To both Ronnie and Elizabeth that sounds like a recipe for disaster, since they can’t even be in the same room with each other for long without an argument erupting. Will they find their father? And will it bring the twins back into a closer relationship? Or just drive another wedge between them?
This book takes the reader on a roller coaster journey, as the twins seems at times to reach some sort of harmonious relationship only to have it fracture again. I found Elizabeth very hard to like and her husband Nathan, even more so. Ronnie’s partner Al, seems almost too good to be true? Or does he? Ronnie’s longing to have a baby while failing too often to fall pregnant is also a key element of this story.
I found this an interesting read as it explores the sister/twin relationship. While I enjoyed it, I never became as emotionally involved as I would have expected to. I had trouble at times with the on again off again construction of the relationship between the sisters. Maybe those with sisters might be able to gauge if this is an accurate portray of a sister relationship. A pleasant, easy book that kept me reading, even though I found certain aspects rather predictable.

A lovely read, reading Maria's books are like being part of a family. Elizabeth and Ronnie are twins who don't really get on. They are very different and Elizabeth is holding a grudge from years ago. When their mum dies she tells them the father they didn't know is living in New York and says she wants them to go together to find him. Will they find him? Will they reconnect? I liked the characters and the easy read of the story.

In Search of Us was such a delightful, lovely read I enjoyed every minute of of this book, Maria Duffy has a style of writing that just flows perfectly, I highly recommend this book. It certainly had me totally gripped throughout.

Such a good book. Lots of twists and turns. Love that they go to New York. Definitely would recommend this book.
