Very loosely based on this prompt from the Star Trek XI Kink meme: Chess AU. Kirk and Spock meet as kids at an intergalactic chess tournament for the Federation Planets. Spock, a discipline of the strictest rules of chess and the undefeated champion in his age group, is completely pwned by Kirk, a wild-card who gleans his talent by playing all manners of chess styles. They become heated rivals, battling each other throughout their chess "careers," which pretty much develops into UST once you toss teenage hormones into the mix. Inevitably chess is pretty much just their foreplay before they finally sit up and realize that they've fallen for each other.

I've read this fanfic many times now, not sure why I haven't marked it as read before now but I love everything by this author!

Also, using this as a placeholder for the 2019 spring tax season as a note to myself.
I've reread all the following series during this spring season but didn't want to mark each as a reread:
Read all the J.L. Merrow plumbers mate series again (favorite series)
Read all the fanfics by littlebirdtold-love her stuff!!
Read the whole series of Matter of Time by Mary Calmes, I usually quit by the 3rd book but I powered through this time
Rereading Turn and Reparations by Sarahs_girl.

This was pretty enjoyable, although the use of t'hy'la wasn't all I was hoping it would be and I think this is a case of the epilogue detracting from rather than adding to the story. I'd likely have rated this higher if not for the inclusion of the epilogue, which just seemed awkward and unnecessary to include imo.

DNF. Erm, I had loads of fun reading this writer's other fics, but in this one the OOC vitriol and sneers were laid on thick, and made me cringe. Odd to come across this stinker by a writer of otherwise happy-go-lucky cuties.
