Susan Segovia-Munoz was born in Los Angeles, California. The Sweet Melissa Memoir Series is her first project. It is a series about overcoming adversity. It is the author's personal story of self-destruction. Learning from the bottom up and always the hard way, things are finally starting to develop a shine of their own. The author tells all, including many humiliating experiences. She leaves nothing out. From a homeless junkie to a law abiding drug-free citizen, this author is working hard to show that anything is possible and that it is her "Time to Shine!" She enjoys writing, photography (both in front and behind the camera), painting, and learning something new each day. She hopes to give inspiration and hope to the addict and the family members of the addict. Her story contains may triggers and may not be suitable for the newly recovered.

Wow

Have read all of Susan's memoirs detailing her unbelievable life. I hope she continues to let us know how she is doing post incarceration. I wish her all the best. Hope that she has the Lord as her pilot. Thanks Sweet Melissa.

Captivating memoir of the author's seven year journey through the prison system. A gritty, unsanitized version of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, Susan describes the various challenges facing a female prisoner, from having no control over your own life to not being believed when you're grievously ill. Authentic and realistic, down to the author's penchant for sticking commas in odd places (my only criticism which in no way detracted from the story).

Great conclusion

Writing style seems different. Great conclusion. I want to know what happened after. Please. From an over 40 year recovered heroin addict I know there is a new life.

Poignant, exciting and exhilarating

This memoir bares all. It is truly a series worth reading. The author consistently makes the reader feel every emotion. Although we may despise drugs and everything that goes along with addiction, Ms. Segovia makes the reader realize just how human we all are. Had this journey been condensed into one book, the impact would have been lost, and the reader may have filed it away as " oh well" here's another druggies tale. This author really makes the reader feel all of her struggles, which were not necessarily all about drugs. Redemption came at a very high cost, and I am so happy for the positive outcome. For anyone who has a loved one in the grips of addiction and feel all is lost, this is a must read.

An Amazing journey . raw and real

After reading this amazing 6 book series, I feel that Susan snd I are long time
BFFs. She opened her soul and invited all of us over in. I have such respect for her ability to stare into her psyche and boldly lay out the facts.

She accepts full responsibility of her actions. Often these kind of reflection tales people try to explain their situations as a tragic thing that happened TO them..that they are victims. So many times an author, after they explain how innocent they are, they often want to spew gospel and preach from on high.

Susan does none of these cheap tactics. Her honesty and straight forward approach hooked me in one hit..I mean one book.

Finally! Now Shine on You Crazy Diamond!

I recommend this whole series to anyone in recovery or is even entertaining the idea of getting sober. This lady is brutally honest about her journey from being an addict to being an addict in recovery. The series would be great for loved ones, also, to give them a perspective from the addict point of view. I'm sad this was the last of the series! Please write another, telling us about your new life on the outside amongst so called normal folks!

Great read

Will you go into more of your story?? Like your days and time in rehab. I wish you would have included pictures of your life... it makes it so much more real to the reader...not just pretty and glam pics but during your using days, mug shots, young life, ect... but the series is really captivating

I will have to say that I read the entire series. Great reads. It really puts into perspective what challenges some must go through in their life to finally be able to see the road at the end of the tunnel. This author went through pain because she felt that no one loved or cared about her. I give this series 5 stars.

Great read!

This series was amazing. I am a caseworker for family treatment court. I wanted to know what it was like living the life of an addict. Susan did the best job of telling the story of a life of an addict. The raw and vulnerable events.

Loved all her books

I loved reading about her life as a young girl into adulthood!...So much trauma. I get the sense that she is a highly sensitive empath. She has a heart of gold and her deep emotions are sometimes overwhelming for her.

I am guessing this is best read in order of the series - but if you're looking for a gritty, no-holds-barred look at what life is like in prison, this is for you.
