If only she can remain unmarried until she turns twenty-one, Caroline will inherit her grandmother's bequest and gain her freedom. 3 1/2 sloooooow burn stars

Lawrence Sinclair is the heir apparent to the Earl of Ware; however, the earl despises his nephew and blames him for his son's untimely death; thus, he has done all he can to be rid of his kin. At a young age, he sent him to a hellish boarding school; once he was old enough, Lawrence's uncle benevolently purchased a commission for him in the Queen's military --- specifically, the one with the greatest number of casualties. And now the earl is seeking a young bride to provide him with an heir to cut Lawrence completely. But this is nothing new or shocking to Lawrence; he has never lived up to his uncle's expectations. He earned the highest honors in the military, and then stayed on the continent for a time after he sold his commission where he encountered Lord Edward Lovell with whom he returned to England.

Carolina Lovell is the only sister of the Lovell brood --- she has 5 brothers. Her favorite and the eldest is Edward, and when he returns from his adventures on the continent to assume his duties as the earl and head of their family, he brings an unusual man with him: Mr. Sinclair. Though Caroline finds him odd at first, she soon realizes he has more depth and character that meets the eye. No matter, though, as Caroline is in her 3rd season after (purposefully) failing to make a match in her first two -- she would much prefer to remain unmarried and explore places beyond England like her brothers are permitted to do, and she feels it is entirely unfair that she cannot just because she is a woman.

When Lawrence meets Caroline, he is immediately infatuated and falls deeply in love with her, though he knows he is and will never be good enough for her. Will he act upon his feelings? Will Caroline consider giving up her freedom to marry him?

What I liked:
--- Lawrence and Caroline were very likeable in different ways - I like that they stayed who they were at the core despite pressures otherwise
--- The author was very authentic./stayed true to the time period

What I didn't like as much:
--- I don't mind a good slow burn, but it seemed FOREVER before these two really got together - I am not referring to intimate scenes, but they didn't even kiss until 3/4's of the way through the whole book -- that's a little too slow on my slow burn tolerance scale
--- Not enough steamy goodness - when they DID finally get down to it, it was pretty high level
--- Too much descriptions for my taste - I have read enough HRs to get the idea, so the level of detail was tedious and felt overdone in many parts
--- The ending was a little odd in that one of the "villains" gave up way too easily after being a serious a-hole the whole time before
--- Unnecessary angst (on the part of the H) - a serious pet peeve of mine

If you enjoy a detailed description of England in the regency era, a SLOW burn romance, minor steamy goodness, a good plot, and a few odd resolutions to story lines, this is the book for you.

Plot --- 3.5/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3/5
Steam Level* --- 2/5
Violence --- nothing graphic
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

(*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! ; 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all)

"Still waters run deep"

I really enjoyed this first in Mia Marlowe's series, The House of Lovell.
I loved Caroline's search for a meaningful life. I was drawn to the austere soldier nature of Lawrence Sinclair back from the American Wars.
Caroline has quite deliberately avoided the marriage-go-round. This her third season and if she can avoid marriage she will be able to take up an inheritance from her grandmother and see the wider world.
My heart quite ached for the little boy Lawrence was, ignored and left to be alone. When Lawrence comes to stay with his friend Edward Lovell, Lord Bredon, whom he met on the coninent, he is uncomfortable about being an Earl's heir, with none of the social graces expected. His uncle Lord Ware hates him, blaming him for a terrible misfortune when Lawrence was a child. He will go to any length to stop Lawrence from inheriting the title.
We see that Lawrence is comfortable with his own sense of worth and integrity. Yet ghosts pursue our Lawrence.
The romance of Caroline and Lawrence is a slow roll but gathers speed satisfactorily. However Caroline might not want marriage Lawrence intrigues her. As she reflects to herself after one encounter,
"learning Lawrence Sinclair from the inside out would be an adventure without equal. [she] was just the woman to conquer this man’s inaccessible soul. Then she’d see about whether she wanted to plant her flag."
Well flag planting or not there were enough twists to keep me guessing.
I'm also flashing on a touch of The Nonesuch with our Mr Sinclair!

4.25 stars - Reviewed for Wit and Sin

The Singular Mr. Sinclair is a true delight to read! Reformed rakes and silver-tongued rogues make for fine heroes, but there’s something about a slightly awkward hero that just grabs my heart. Lawrence charmed me from the start and made me smile. He isn’t a dashing duke, but rather a self-made man whose position as heir to an earldom is tenuous at best. He’s not someone most ladies would fawn over because he’s not suave or witty, but they’d be missing out because he’s a smart, honorable, kind, loyal, and strong man. He’s also unabashedly head-over-heels for Caroline from the very start and that just made me melt.

Caroline may have grown up in the heart of the ton, but she longs for a life much different than the one laid out for her. She’s determined to see the world and she’ll even flirt with an unsuitable gentleman if it undermines her parents’ plans to marry her off before she comes into her inheritance and can take off on her own. The one thing Caroline never planned for was Lawrence. He needs her help if he’s to fit into society, but there’s something about her brother’s friend that knocks her just slightly off-kilter and she senses that there’s more to him than meets the eye.

The Singular Mr. Sinclair has a slightly slow pace, but I was charmed enough by the characters that I didn’t mind. Caroline and Lawrence’s romance develops organically and there are just enough obstacles that I was curious to see how they would ultimately end up together. Caroline and Lawrence would be enough to make this a satisfying read, but the addition of Caroline’s brothers filled out this story nicely and made me look forward to more House of Lovell books. The Singular Mr. Sinclair was a joy to read and by the time I finished the book I was excited to read more of Mia Marlowe’s work.

Lady Caroline Lovell is beautiful, wealthy and the only daughter of an Earl. She’s also in her third Season and with no betrothal on the horizon, her parents are beginning to despair of marrying her off.

The thing is that Caroline doesn’t want to be married off. She dreams of adventure, of travel, of being in control of her own destiny, and if she can just stay unmarried until she is twenty-one, she’ll be able to do whatever she wishes.

The return of her eldest brother from the continent with an interesting companion promises to at least relieve her tedium. Lawrence Sinclair, a former army officer, is unlike any other man she’s ever met. The nephew (and titular heir) of an earl, he was given an education only grudgingly and sent off to war in the hope he would actually die.

Knowing he’s doomed to a life on the fringes of society, especially as his uncle is hurrying to marry again and try to get another heir, Lawrence is well aware that Caroline is out of his league. She’s even more unique than she thinks he is, and he can’t stay away, no matter what it costs him.

This is a beautifully written period romance, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between Caroline and Lawrence, especially when they both made their final decisions to take a leap of faith and trust that together, they could make a good future even without certain prospects. Of course, everything turns out all right because this is a romance, but it was done in a very intriguing and unexpected way I didn’t see coming at all. This was such a good read from start to finish, I’m really looking forward to reading more from this new-to-me author. Five stars.

3.5 rounded up

Lawrence Sinclair has been smitten with Lady Caroline Lovell since the moment he laid eyes on her. But a former Major in his majesty's Calvary and the estranged heir of an earl with no prospects, has no business wanting the daughter of an Earl - even if he did save her brother.

Lady Caroline has no desire to marry, after 3 seasons and many thwarted suitors, she holds out hope that she will make it to her 21st birthday, unwed and free to set her own course, thanks to a small fortune left to her by her grandmother. But Lawrence is a puzzle that needs solving and the first and possibly the only man that has ever made Caro rethink her future.

Lawrence would love nothing more than to marry Caro, but he feels honor bound to walk away from her But he has seriously underestimated his love! Caro isn't willing to let him walk away without answers and is willing to stoop to forgery to get them!

When a HEA seems to be in their grasp, a shocking family secret paired with a stunning betrayal and an even more surprising twist - may change the all the plans they have envisioned for their future.

I thought this was a very good story, I loved that Lawrence never waivered in his devotion to Caro, nor did he ever feel sorry for himself and his lot in life. The book wasn't perfect, there are situations that come up, seem important and then are promptly ignored without explanation or repercussion, the love scenes are barely tepid and the ending feels a bit too good, to be true. But it is a sweet story and I am looking forward to the next book.

The Singular Mr. Sinclair by Mia Marlowe is book One in The House of Lovell series. This is the story of Caroline Lovell and Lawrence Sinclair.
Caroline is 20 years old and in just one year she can inherit from her grandmother, which will allow her to become her own person. But until then she has to play along with the 'marriage mart' even thought that isn't what she wants. Lawrence took up the life of a military man and now has retired from that life and has come to stay with his friend. There he meets Caroline who intrigues him along with a great attraction for her. Caroline too starts to have feelings for him and she starts to find out how fascinating he is.
Enjoyed their love story.

"The Joy of now is worth any sorrow that may come." This story was a character study of two people and the journey it took for them to come together. Lady Caroline is in her last season and will be able take control of her life with the inheritance she is to obtain and live her dream of traveling and seeing the world without being hampered by a husband. That is until fate steps in in the form of one Lawrence Sinclair, recently arrived with her brother who had been traveling abroad. Lawrence is so full of emotions he harnesses from his upbringing and military service that he has to learn to be in polite society. Caroline is determined to find out his secrets and what makes him tick. This is such a well written book with intense emotions and some hidden secrets that come to life. As the two spend time together you can feel their feelings coming through the pages. But there are many obstacles that must be overcome. Prepare to be enchanted as you take in this sweet romance that will have your heart smiling as you turn the last page. I cannot wait to read more in this series..

Overview: This was a really sweet read, but the pacing made it drag quite a bit. It follows a simple plot that mainly hinges on the difference in class between the couple, but it was low in angst and overall just super wholesome and nice.

Writing: I remember reading this author's books a whileee back before my library card expired, but I honestly didn't remember that much and came in with a fresh mind. This book was honestly refreshing in the way of how little drama/angst there was between the main couple, and the awesome familial and friendly relationships that the author explored. Of course, that means less dialogue with Caroline and Lawrence (which was honestly quite frustrating in the beginning), but I don't mind a drawn-out romance sometimes. Although I think their progression to romance was a bit quick compared to their time of interactions and such, it was still really sweet and lovely!

Romance: 4/5

Trigger/Content Warnings: attempted rape

AKA Alert

It’s been a while since I’ve read a full book by Mia Marlowe and I’m glad to see this is a beginning of a series. I enjoyed reading the books she was writing jointly with Connie Mason. Then I remembered…she also wrote under the name of Emily Bryant. I remember being fond of those also. My fellow Petunia’s always check out that copyright information for the aka, you just never know who’s going to show up again.

Now on to the book and this will teach me to write my review as soon as I close the book. I do not remember too much about this story, which isn’t a good thing. I do remember that the hero, Mr. Sinclair is left-handed and as a child this caused a problem with his uncle. Somehow he joins the army and makes a great career out of it. Travels the world, mixes with people of the world, see sights and sounds which a lot of people in London society are isolated from. Of course, the army also means he sees things which are horrendous and do not make for a peaceful rest. He is back in London, has won accolades for his service to his country. He feels guilty for surviving. His best friend has brought him back to his house to stay. It is here that he meets our heroine, Caroline.

Caroline is a snob and so are her friends. They view Sinclair’s efforts to blend in with society as close to buffoonery. Her friends are vicious women and I hope that they are not going to be heroines in future books, because I could not like them.

I’m not sure why Romanceland has a tendency to think of anyone who hasn’t grown up in the isolated atmosphere of London society as idiots, buffoons, uncouth people. There were other societies in the world which were just as sophisticated and culturally advanced as London. The three women in this book, looked down on Sinclair, they were snide, catty and spoiled. But their duty was to bring Sinclair into London’s glitter.

This was a slow book, the romance lacked chemistry, but because I am familiar with Mia Marlowe aka Emily Bryant’s writing, I will probably give her next book a try. I'm giving this a luke-warm recommendation - don't blame me if you don't like it.

This book is a historical romance a bit different to the general genre. Caroline our heroine is not after marrying a titled gentleman for status or money. She will inherit money from her grandmother on turning 21. She is about to start her third season and her parents have high hopes that she will receive and accept a marriage proposal this season. Caroline has other ideas however. Growing up as the only girl in a family with 4 brothers, she acutely feels the difference in expectation toward young ladies compared to young gentlemen. Her beloved eldest brother has just returned from his year abroad and Caroline longs to do the same thing. However, society does not allow young ladies to travel abroad, their efforts must be fully focused on making a good match in the marriage market. When her brother brings home Lawrence Sinclair, a friend he has made during his travels, all her best laid plans go astray. One look at Caroline and Lawrence is lost. Lawrence is singular in the fact that he pursues Caroline single mindedly. He is a forthright, no nonsense man, with a kind heart and soon Caroline falls in love with him. Caroline is reluctant to give up her dreams of travelling the world for a marriage with Lawrence. Lawrence has his own doubts about proposing to Caroline, although he is the current heir to an Earldom, his uncle is set to be married again and may produce an heir of his own. The relationship between his uncle and Lawrence is strained as his uncle blames Lawrence for the dead of his son many years ago. The uncle will do anything to prevent Lawrence from inheriting the title. There is also some interference from an old friend of Caroline and her brother, who has gambling debts and is pursuing one of Caroline's best friend. Lawrence Sinclair warns Caroline about this and the friend retaliates. I liked the fact that Lawrence Sinclair was not hiding his attraction to Caroline and actively pursued her. The hero and heroine did not start of hating each other, but rather liked each other from the beginning. This book also touched upon how hard it must have been for some women, to see the freedom their male counter parts had and how restricted their world was. Caroline was prepared to stand up to expectations and gain the freedom to travel. In the end love conquered all, with the right man by her side, Caroline was able to experience love and keep her dreams of travel alive.

The first book in a new series & as there are five Lovell brothers hopefully they’ll each have their story. Lawrence's & Caroline's story is a lovely romance no spies, murders or intrigue, they don't hate each other, they aren't compromised, they didn’t get carried away with passion, they are simply attracted to each other from the start, especially Lawrence, & the more they know each other the more they like each other & fall in love. There are a couple of surprises at the end but overall just a pure & simple romance which was a change & a breath of sunshine.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The Singular Mr. Sinclair by Mia Marlowe
The House of Lovell #1

Caroline Lovell has a dream and it does not include a man…definitely not a husband. No, she wants adventure and to travel to faraway places like…Zanzibar. Lawrence Sinclair wants peace after a decade in the military. He has returned to England to regroup. When the two meet in Caroline’s parlor he is stunned and left utterly speechless – not making the best first impression. Caroline, unwillingly, begins to see more in Lawrence that at first sight. The two move steadily toward a HEA that may see them in England or perhaps traveling. There was a twist or two in the story and there were a couple of characters that I would enjoy reading more about so do look forward to reading more in this series.

This is a delightful, somewhat predictable, lighthearted romance typical of the genre with a HEA ending for almost all while setting up for the next book in the series.

Did I enjoy the book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Was this a good introduction to this author’s work? I believe so.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books – Lyrical Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Yup, another 5 stars. I'm telling you, I'm lucky these days !
But I have to say I already loved another series by this author, The Order of the MUSE (highly recommended), but it included vampires, so I wanted to see what she was like when writing strictly historical "normal" romance. She’s awesome !
I mainly loved that Lawrence was not a duke, an earl, a viscount, whatever - even if a potential heir, but also that he wasn't used to polite society and quite at loss when it came to make small talk. He’s a military man who made it to major only due to his merit. No wit, all pragmatism and solidity.
Caroline is the contrary, a lady, rich, witty, on her third season and (as it occurs a lot in historical romances nowadays) bent on remaining unmarried and living her life the way she wants it : by travelling, chiefly to Zanzibar, after she inherits from one of her parents.
They have no future together. They are polar opposites on many accounts. The attraction grows, anyhow, and I loved Lawrence’s dedication, even if something in the end irritated me. Well, it irritated me, yet it was believable. Their story was refreshing and completely delicious.
I'm waiting for the next !

Overall: 2.5 stars? Gonna admit that I skimmed this one hard. I really enjoyed the author’s writing and use of historical details buuuut I just couldn’t connect to the characters and the story didn’t really grab my attention. I would consider reading another book by the author because the writing itself was good, even if the story was kinda boring.

Ugh. I got this as a book from Free Nook Friday, and I will not be keeping it. Everything was fine for the first third of the book, and then the main characters inexplicably turned into idiots. I suffered through the second third of the book, growing more irritated by the page. Then I took a few days diversion to read another book, and almost forgot I hadn't finished this one. By the last third, I was ready to throw all these characters into the Thames. In the last few chapters, the book vacillated from a clean romance to a bodice ripper to a Christian romance (there was seriously a paragraph about how their union was good to God, or something - but nothing else religious was mentioned throughout the rest of the book. And then there was a semi-graphic sex scene... but they were married, so it must have been okay. Eye-roll).

That cover, though? It's the tits. See what I did there, haha? Because he's basically groping her. Ok, never mind.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4, would have been 5 if the ending didn't go completely loopy.

The Singular Mr. Sinclair is the kind of heart-tug story that I love. Laurence Sinclair has been cast aside by his uncle, who has always hated him and treats him just about as bad as he possibly could. He doesn't stand out in studies, is left-handed, and his deceased father was a jerk. After a childhood accident killed his cousin/uncle's heir he was sent away to school and upon graduation his uncle set him up with an army commission in the most dangerous unit he could find clearly hoping he'd die. Mr Sinclair did not die, but succeeded quite well in the army. After the war ended he sold out and travelled the continent as he really had no place to go "home". He met Edward Lovell, Lord Bredon in Italy and bailed him out of a tricky situation. As things open, they've returned to England and Edward has set him up to stay at his family's London townhouse.

Edward's sister Caroline, the only girl out of six children in the Lovell family, is in London for her third Season. She doesn't want to get married, but dreams of traveling after she turns 21 and comes into an inheritance. She is trying to fix up plans to look as though she's giving it her all, but coming out unwed.

Laurence does not really have much social experience and finds himself tongue-tied and awestruck (love at first sight, naturally) upon meeting Caroline. Caroline sees Laurence as an opportunity to put herself up for a match with an eligible bachelor (he's "heir presumptive" to an earldom, but his uncle is working to fix that) that won't actually come through. She does find Laurence very handsome and interesting and so we see where this is going.

The book is mostly a very lovely story about Laurence overcoming hurt and uncertainty to find a place for himself in the world, and him and Caroline growing closer and coming together. Laurence is a very lonely guy, has never really been loved directly and he doesn't really know any other way of being. I did a lot of sniffling for him.

The problem is that in the last few chapters everything goes completely off the rails to give a huge deus ex machina no hint at all this was going to happy ultra happy ending out of nowhere. It's absurd, it's unearned and it should have been workshopped a bit more and hinted at during the course of the book that it was a possibility.

Lawrence Ware was never a good student like his younger cousin, Ralph, but he possesses exceptional equestrian skills. After his father died years ago, Lawrence and his mother lived with his widowed uncle, Harcourt Sinclair, Earl Ware, at Ware Hall in Cumberland. His uncle ruled the home with an iron fist and Lawrence’s mother is a sad woman. Lawrence knows he will have to make his own way in life with no help from his uncle. After he finished his schooling, he joined the military where he excelled. Now, he has retired and is looking to do something else in life.

Lady Caroline Lovell is the daughter of the Earl of Chatham and today she is having tea with some of her friends and listening to them gossip. As this is Caroline’s third season, she bores easily with the silly gossip. Oh, how she wishes she could escape it all and travel to exotic places. She has no interest in getting married and just wants to be her own mistress. She is now age 20 and has one more year before she can access the fortune left her by her grandmother, and then she can have her freedom.

Caroline’s brother, Edward, returns from his Grand Tour and brings with him a friend he introduces as Lawrence Ware. He tells his family that Lawrence will be staying at their home for the season and asks Caroline and her friends to ensure that he is introduced to people. He feels awkward because he does not possess a fortune - just his retirement pay.

Caroline finds that Lawrence has not been schooled in some of the ways of the ton and does not even dance. So, she takes him under her wing and teaches him. Their togetherness sparks an attraction, but Lawrence knows he does not have the means to give Caroline the life she is used to. Caroline surprisingly finds herself falling in love. Is there any hope for a future for them?

This book started off a bit slow and was confusing as times. As I got further into the book, I see that the author was holding back some information to surprise readers later. Thankfully, the story did pick up and the ending was quite surprising. This is the first book I have read by this author and I certainly look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

I really liked Caroline and Lawrence!!

Caroline has no plans to marry. She just has to get to her twenty-first birthday to inherit money from her grandmother. Only then can she pursue her dreams of travelling the world. Now she has to make it through her third season with no proposals and she is home free. Her parents, of course, would love for her to make a good match this season. Things have a way of changing when Caroline meets her brother's friend, Lawrence.

Lawrence and Caroline's brother have just returned from abroad-with stories to tell! Caroline is taken with Lawrence Sinclair right away and he, with her. She wants to hear all about his travels! Lawrence feels a magnetic pull and goes after Caroline. It's a delightful cat and mouse game for sure!

Caroline still wants to travel, but Lawrence fascinates her! Lawrence, on the other hand, doesn't feel he is up to snuff for Caroline. He struggles with that. But he is helpless to stay away from her!

The fun part is how these two finally come to terms with their feelings and figure out how to be together. There is family stuff that always plays a part! Plus the overall theme of women not being afforded the same freedoms to do what they want,as men frequently do. The story was paced good and I was entertained throughout!

The situation with Lawrence's uncle was almost a 180 from how it was in the entire book. It didn't seem believable-at least on the uncle's part!

I loved how this book shows that love is undeniable!!

I’m addicted to period romance novels, so I was very excited to get this book as a free giveaway. I’ll admit it took me several chapters to really get into it. However, I don’t know if that was because the book was slow to start or because life got in the way and didn’t let me read as often as I normally would have. About the 40% mark it really picked up the pace and I found it hard to put it down. There was a good mixture of comedy, dashed hopes, societal scandal, and romance.

I’ve got a thing for shy, awkward types, so the so-dubbed “singular Mr. Sinclair” was a hero right up my alley and I found him endearing. It was refreshing to read a romance novel where the hero wasn’t some suave rake reformed by the heroine, but instead was socially awkward yet confident in his own sense of right and wrong—even if his moral code did briefly threaten the happily ever after!

The heroine, Caroline, was meant to be an aspiring traveler who wanted to avoid doing her duty of making an advantageous marriage and explore the world. I didn’t really feel this independence and ambition from her and thought she capitulated rather quickly into an affection for Mr. Sinclair and desire to marry.

Still, I was charmed by the pair as a couple and also enjoyed the small cast of secondary character that we met, who will appear to feature in future stories from this author. I would definitely recommend it and am putting this author on my watch list!

This was one of those stories that unfortunately doesn't really stand out in any meaningful way. The writing was solid, but there really wasn't anything that made this book stand out over any of the other historical novels currently on the market.

Caroline and her friends come across as very spoiled and judgmental (although Caroline less so), immediately judging Lawrence because he isn't as comfortable in polite society as they are. Lawrence of course is besotted with Caroline the moment he sees her. The pair butt heads as one would expect, however Caroline had an annoying habit of flouncing off irate with Lawrence without any explanation. It was tiring.

Eventually, they admit their feelings for one another, but in typical novel fashion, Lawrence doesn't feel like he is good enough for her and he leaves. Caroline isn't one to take no for an answer however, and as is the case in these types of stories, they reconcile. There were a couple of things that seemed very out of character, and a couple other things that were a little too convenient for my tastes, but overall, this was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

I do think this story will appeal to fans of historical romances, and I would read more from this author.

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read with likable though conventional characters. I was disappointed in the way that the author brought about the ending of the book. Laurence was his uncle's heir, but had been sort of disinherited because his uncle blamed him for his cousin's accidental death when Laurence and his cousin were children. His uncle planned on marrying a young woman expecting his child and make sure that Laurence would never be in line to be the next Duke. Then suddenly when it was necessary, a letter is found that Laurence's grandmother had written explaining that she had changed the birth dates of her two sons so that the younger, weaker one would inherit instead of the older stronger child who would be able to make his way in the world without being a lord. So just when Laurence needed to be rich because he was newly married to a woman of the aristocracy this letter appears. I thought the author took the easy way out in making the problems of the main characters disappear without any real angst. The book would have been more interesting and would have probably been much longer if the main characters had married and gone to India as they had originally thought they would do.

Lady Caroline Lovell is in her third season and her parents expect her to marry. She on the other hand does not, she waiting to inherit her grandmother’s trust for her if only she can remain unmarried until she turns twenty-one. Lawrence Sinclair is heir apparent to an Earldom, but not if his Uncle has any say about it his uncle is looking for a young wife to give him an heir instead of Lawrence inheriting. Lawrence knows his prospects are slim he knows he has no business wanting the daughter of an Earl, but poor Lawrence is smitten the moment he meets Caroline. Caroline becomes intrigued by Lawrence and the two strike up a friendship, Caroline wants to help Lawrence adjust to society, solve the mystery that surround him and his past and Lawrence simply wants to be by Caroline’s side. An enchanting story of with family secrets revealed, intrigue as the pair navigate their way through some surprising twist and turns in the story. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Recieved a complimentary copy from NetGalley, all opinions are my own.

All Caroline wants is to travel and to achieve this she needs to stay unmarried till her twentyfirst birthday.. Money left to her from her grandmother will grant her the freedom to persue her dreams. But sometimes fate has a way of messing up plans, and for Caroline fate came in the form of Laurence her brothers friend. Laurence Sinclair intrigues her with his tales of travel but she also has a deep connection with him and she can’t keep away from him.
Laurence has fallen for Charlotte but feels she deserves better than him, and with no way to support her he feels he must let her go. Sometimes the heart knows better than logic and keeping away from her is impossible.
A truly enjoyable story fast paced and entertaining. Lawrence and Caroline have a great connection and I found I truly liked them. This was a wonderful start to what looks like a great series. Looking forward to the next one..

I liked this book well enough, but there were certain aspects that were a little frustrating. The heroine and her group of friends came off as somewhat shallow in some scenes, and there were moments when it didn't even seem like she cared about them all that much (like historical Mean Girls, they only barely tolerated each other's company). The relationship between the hero and heroine was pretty enjoyable, though, and their chemistry was fun! But then it felt like the author remembered she had to tie up all her loose ends in the last 20% of the book and SO MUCH HAPPENED AT ONCE, making the majority of the story feel more slowly-paced by comparison. I may check out another book from the author at a later date, but this series probably won't be high-priority for me.

With money to inherit from her grandmother, Caroline has no intentions of ever marrying; however, she her plan to convince her parents is still under wraps. When her brother returns from his travels with his friend, Lawrence Sinclair, those plans may never eventuate. There is just something about Mr Sinclair that Caroline cannot work out…..
Caroline is almost mesmerised by Lawrence. He is also overwhelmed by his feelings for Caroline but believes that she is too good for him, given that he may never inherit the earldom from his uncle.
As Caroline tries to prepare Lawrence for his arrival into society, she begins to fall in love with Lawrence. It was so delightful to see these two together. However, not everything goes to plan in this romance, making for an interesting read.

I received an ARC of this book to read from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. The Singular Mr. Sinclair by Mia Marlowe is the first book in her new series House of Lovell. Lady Caroline Lovell is the only daughter in her family of 6, growing up with 5 brothers has made her aware of the limitations women face and she has decided to remain unmarried because at 21 she will come into an inheritance from her grandmother and she has plans for adventure and travel. Then she meets Lawrence Sinclair her eldest brothers friend and travel companion who even though he is very quiet seems to exude danger and mystery. Lawrence is smitten by Caroline but worries that the secrets from his past make him unsuitable for her. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Medium Steam. This was my first Mia Marlowe book, but it certainly won’t be my last. There were so many things I enjoyed, I don’t know where to begin! Upon first glance, this book seems to be another cross-class, Romeo/Juliet affair, and it is - but also, it’s not. The hero and heroine get to know each other and fall in love in a reasonable amount of time, not overnight. Their misunderstandings are resolved by talking and listening to each other. And the secondary characters are interesting enough for further books, but don’t once detract from the protagonists of this story.

My favorite choice by the author was to begin each chapter with a quote from either the heroine or the hero that never actually appears or is said by them elsewhere in the book. It was clever and charming.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

No man interests Caroline until her brother brings home a friend from his year abroad. That friend, Lawrence, feels like a fish-out-of-water as he tries to fit into the Season. He grew up being ignored by his uncle Lord Ware so he knows little of ton-ish manners and he can’t dance. Caroline takes him in hand to help him navigate but in spite of her vow to never marry, finds she is falling for Lawrence. Lawrence has been in love at first sight. There are several obstacles in the way of true love and fulfilled dreams.

This is my first book by this author and I was quite pleased. The characters were well presented and the plot held enough angst to make it interesting. The wrap-up at the end was a bit too much of a fortunate surprise. But all in all a good read.
I received this book free for review fro the publisher.
