Interesting story with good illustrations that helped my young lad quickly catch onto what the words were as I read them for the first time. For 15 pages, it's kept him busy for 15 minutes and counting.

There is no plot. There is no reason. Ears, Mrs. Boot's donkey bites into Mrs. Rose's hat thinking it was food and as compensation Mrs. Boot offers to let Mrs. Rose ride Ears into the 'Best Donkey Competition' at the fete - which he wins with Mrs. Rose. How does riding a hungry donkey who almost bit your head off a good reason to ride it? And to a competition which he wins - 'Best Donkey'? Oxymoron. But I guess that's the point then!

I've mentioned this for the other books in the series, the top and bottom reading portions on the pages don't work. It's easy to ignore the top portion as you turn pages and the language is the same across both the pages
