Haldeman is the author of 20 novels and five collections. The Forever War won the Nebula, Hugo and Ditmar Awards for best science fiction novel in 1975. Other notable titles include Camouflage, The Accidental Time Machine and Marsbound as well as the short works "Graves," "Tricentennial" and "The Hemingway Hoax." Starbound is scheduled for a January release. SFWA president Russell Davis called Haldeman "an extraordinarily talented writer, a respected teacher and mentor in our community, and a good friend."

Il primo romanzo presente 'Guerra eterna', quello originale della serie, è veramente ottimo.
Un libro sulla guerra che si concentra sugli effetti della relatività in un universo dove viaggiare in lungo e in largo per la galassia non è gratis ma si deve fare i conti con i paradossi temporali.
La storia si basa su questi soldati che partono per battaglie ad anni luce di distanza e che tornano su una terra a decine se non centinaia di anni nel futuro rispetto alla loro partenza.
Oltre a questi interessanti ragionamenti temporali il vero messaggio del libro è l'inutilità assoluta della guerra che emerge devestante nel finale del libro.
(Preso singolarmente questo romanzo sarebbe da 5 stelle)
Il secondo romanzo presente 'Missione eterna', è sostanzialmente buono, riprende i personaggi principali del primo libro e li sposta in nuove circostanze alle prese con la vita da reduci.
Purtroppo il finale l'ho trovato pessimo compromettendo il giudizio complessivo.
La raccolta di racconti in coda al volume è secondo me abbastanza avulsa dal contesto.
Solo un racconto è veramente in linea con la saga, un altro paio diciamo che sono in tema gli altri del tutto avulsi. Intendiamoci, sono tutti piuttosto buoni ma data anche il numero di pagine molto importante sul totale del volume il fatto di non essere in tema pesa parecchio.
