For small-town tattoo artist Levi Wells his few forays into love have only brought him trouble. When trouble with a capital T came sashaying into town two years ago in the form of flamboyant young dancer Jay Owens, Levi becomes more determined than ever to stay away from anything remotely resembling a relationship. Especially one with someone so young and different than him. Two years. That’s how long Jay has been trying to wear Levi down. But, Levi only sees Jay as a thorn in his side and balks at their differences every chance he gets. Luckily for them both, Jay isn’t going to let a little thing like Levi’s reluctance stand in the way of getting what he wants. Levi is as stubborn as Jay is tenacious and they find themselves at an impasse. When Jay inadvertently gets himself into an unnerving situation, Levi’s protective nature surges forth even as he berates his heart for getting involved. Will Levi stay focused on their differences and keep fighting his true feelings? Or will Jay finally burrow through Levi’s self-imposed walls? One thing is for sure, you can’t fight love. *Can’t Fight It is a male/male romance meant for ages 18+ due to language, themes, and adult scenes.*

I was so ready for this one! I absolutely adored Jay... So, if you read last book, you'll know that Levi is Micah's cousin, and Jay is a friend who was more irritating at first, but quickly became good friends with Cole and Micah, and fell deeply in love with Levi, though Levi says he didn't reciprocate. Of course, he did, it just took him a while to admit it.
Jay is a dancer, and somebody got a little handsy at the club he worked at, so he was taking the week off, but then started getting hang-up calls... I liked that he and Levi decided to see where a relationship could go before all of this started happening because while it did bring them closer together, I feel like had it been based on that, it wouldn't have meant as much..... at least to me.
It was pretty low angst, though I did want to crap slap Levi a time or two, once he gave in to Jay, there was no doubting it after that, for either of them. It also threw me for a loop that Levi bottomed, I didn't see that coming, but boy was it hot.
I'm curious about Cody and Kennedy, but I'm not into sharing and/or BDSM, so I'm not real sure about it. I might have to give it a pass. We shall see. I love this series though, and I really really loved Levi and Jay. So cute. 4 stars from me.
Despite the first book in the series being a DNF for me, I wanted to give this one a try. And then I read the first line and there's a word missing. If your opening line has editing issues, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the book.
This one was much better than the first. The writing and story line were more developed.
I was really looking to Jay and Levi's story because they had so much tension going on in book 1 I knew it would be a good one. I was not let down. It may have taken Jay 2 years to ware Levi down but when he did, oh boy, did he ever!
It's a love story between the town "twink" and the tattoo artist who are complete opposites but somehow work perfectly together.
I did enjoy the story and was near giving it a solid 4 stars but there were little things here and there that bothered me. For example, the stalker bit. I guess it was added for some drama but it got resolved rather quickly and was so anti-climatic. There was also the whole daddy bit. Yeah, still not my kink lol. Other than that it was a solid read.
This is book 2 in the Blueridge Junction series. In the previous book we met Jay and the man he loves to call Daddy, Levi. In that book we also learned Jay has a crush on Levi. In the first scene of Can't Fight it, we learn it's not unrequited as previously thought.
They get together pretty early in the book and the book is mostly them figuring out how to make a relationship work. There is some relationship drama, considering the age difference (10 years), but the main conflict has to do with Jay's job.
I love that once Levi stops fighting his attraction to Jay, he's all in. I like that the book is primarily relationship focused. I like that we learn more about Jays past and why he ended up in BJ.
I'm not to keen on the conflict, I thought it was resolved too easily, and wish it had been left out.
I liked this one much more than the second. It was slow burn, and low angst. They were friends first, and that was amazing. I loved Jay!! He was so snarky and persistent. He was young with an old soul. He knew what he wanted and wouldn't give up. I'm not so sure about other utah the next book about leather daddies. I'm pretty over bdsm storylines unless its an author I know and love.
Jay and Levi are a great pairing. I loved Levi’s gruffness and of course I adored Jay’s flamboyance. I’m hoping Cody and Kennedy will get their own story too because they were great side characters. So this was sweet & romantic with the right amount of heat and small dose of angst. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy
what a sweet romance. I just loved the writing and the witness of Jay.
Levi lost his heart to Jay 2 years before, but his head took that time to catch up. So he could not fight it any more when Jay turned 21, and the lust for him just got harder and harder to deny. loved it, smiled all the way through this book.
After listening to the first book in the series, I thought I kind of knew what to expect from the second installment since so much of their dynamic is already on display. I was right in a lot of ways. But their story ended up being deeper than I expected.
The "daddy" nickname Jay gave Levi was cute in small doses, as a joke in book one, but serious Daddy kink is not my thing, so I was worried as to just how far they would go. To the author's credit, she was able to make that into an interesting conflict between the two men. Natural misunderstandings stemmed from their age difference and the obvious nickname, which meant they had to sort through the stereotypes and determine their own dynamic, what to keep and what to discard, if they had any hope of moving forward. Their own expectations got in the way several times, but they stuck with it, and I feel it worked out well for them, even though I personally feel like the endearment was overused. They were playful, they were tender, and they were much more than they seemed.
While there was a danger element in the first book, we pretty much knew the score from the beginning. I would have been more surprised had the culprit not been who it turned out to be. However, the danger element in this one was completely unknown. It may not have ended up being as dangerous, but the fact that we had no idea who, what, when, or why until the eventual wrap-up made it felt more intense. I liked the answers to those questions. I found them to be unique and interesting enough that, on one hand, being a suspense/mystery reader, I wish they had played a bigger role. On the other hand, since this is a romance first and foremost, I know that sometimes bad things happen and the wrap-up of someone else's unrelated drama was not the most important thing they had going on in their life, so I'm actually kind of impressed that the author took that risk.
The family element was sad. Levi lost his early, and Jay's can only be called heartbreakingly complicated. But as sad as it is, there are some incredibly warm moments that swing the overall tone in a more positive direction.
I received this audiobook from the narrator, to be considered for an honest review. The range of the main 6 characters' voices have held up from one book to the other. Jay's voice, specifically, is so stylized that it would have been noticeable had the narrator changed it. The supporting cast were okay too. However, there seemed to be a little hiccup with the background characters. For example, Levi and Jay take a trip out of town and end up meeting a couple from another series by this author. The voices of Braeton and Drew kind of sound muppets. While all the background characters collectively don't make up enough page time to really be that concerned about, the voices used for them was a bit jarring.
Overall, my original concern about daddy kink was unfounded, and the romance was more fun than I expected.
I did a beta read of this book for Ms. Ellis and I loved it right from the first page. It starts out with one of the hottest scenes I've read in a while. Can't Fight It is the second book in The Blueridge Junction Boys series. While you could probably read this as a standalone I strongly recommend reading Fight For It first. Fight For It is about a different couple but it sets up a lot of things for the rest of the books in the series. So much of the history of Levi and Jay's relationship is in that book; reading it will definitely enhance your enjoyment of Can't Fight It.
Jay Owens is young, much too young for Levi Wells – or so Levi thinks. Jay is just not the type of guy that Levi usually goes for – he's too slim and lithe. Jay could also be a poster boy for the stereotypical young, gay, twink. He's a dancer at a local gay club and favors flashy outfits and wears makeup.
Jay moved to Blueridge Junction two years ago to escape his less-than-desirable home situation. He can barely make ends meet and his friends in Blueridge Junction often help him out by giving him leftovers and inviting him to dinner.
Levi is a tatted, macho guy and he isn't happy that Jay's been making a play for him over the last two years. Jay loves to tease Levi by calling him "Daddy."
Can't Fight It isn't exactly a friends to lovers story, I guess it's more of a frenemies to lovers story. While Levi and Jay might not exactly be enemies they aren't really friends either.
I'm not giving anything away to let you know that Levi and Jay do eventually get together – this is a romance story after all – but the journey they take to get to their HEA was a pleasure to read. At times I laughed out loud and at others I shed tears. When Jay finally wears Levi down he is elated but also scared. He's wanted Levi for so long that now that it's happening he's not quite sure how fast he wants things to go.
I think this might be my favorite book by Ms. Ellis now. Once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down and was quite frustrated when real life intervened and I had to stop reading for a few hours. There is quite a bit of set-up for the next book but there isn't a cliffhanger as Levi and Jay's story has an HEA. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I was very much looking forward to reading this story. And I was not disappointed. It was delightful. I already loved Jay in Fight for It, and I adored him in this book. He is such a flamboyant, sparkling, full-of-life man. Every time I read about him I got a burst of joy bubbling inside me. But that is not all there is to him. He has hidden layers. He has grown up so much in the two years he chased Levi. Yes, he wants Levi with all his heart but only when Levi wants him, too. And Levi wants him. He finally finds the courage to face the truth, that although Jay is not his type he is exactly the one he needs in his life. He is the grumbling, bad-ass tattoo artist with a heart of gold. They are perfect for each other, despite their differences, or maybe because of them. Their age gap is not in an issue in the sense that they ignore or just go with it. They acknowledge it and accept it. Levi has someone special he can keep safe and care for. Jay is happy with the guidance the more experienced Levi can provide him. When they were together they just made my heart sing. I loved how they communicated with each other. Not only the fact that they kept talking to each other about their feelings and concerns, but not in the least the way they were together. Full of banter, witty and snarky humor, and serious conversations. There is some angst as a stalker enters their life, but it is easily dealt with. Some might say too easily, but I felt that it was not the kind of story that needed much drama. It was wonderful as it was. I also loved that the three BJ men and their significant others were growing into a family more and more. I always like reading about couples after they found their happily-ever-after as I feel me growing more connected with them. And there is definitely a story between Cody and Kennedy. I can’t wait for their own book. This book is the second installment in The Blueridge Junction series and can be read as a stand-alone. However, as there are recurring characters I recommend to read them in order.
This is the second book in The Blueridge Junction Boys Series. What an sweet, sexy, romantic book the writing was amazing. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters fantastic. The characters were well developed and thought out. Levi and Jay are the MC’s of this book. I loved Jay and was excited for his story and it didn’t disappoint. Jay is a mixture of innocence, perkiness, drama and is a loveable character. I loved this character and he was balanced out by a loveable, grumpy, protecting Levi. The book had a couple of grammar issues, but the strength of the story outweighed that as a problem. It was a beautiful love story that I read in one sitting and it seemed to end too fast. There was humor, romance, a birthday party, friends, loss, new friends, intrigue and two years in the making and so much more in this book. The intrigue was a bit anticlimactic but if you look at it as a subplot instead of part of the main plot it works. Jay’s birthday party was great and a favorite part of the book.
I had a hard time choosing a quote because most of what I wanted to choose would be a spoiler. But here is a quote from the book, “His breathe came in pants and his words were a plea I couldn’t ignore. Stripping the shirt from his body, I marveled at the slim yet muscular dancer’s physique under my hands. Graceful, smaller, and almost fragile looking, yet the muscles flexing and stretching under my touch told another story.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can highly recommend. I think that this is the best book by this author so far. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
I've been itching to see how Jay would finally catch his Levi since their hilarious banter in book 1 of the BJ Boys series, and their story everything I had hoped it would be! I fell for Jay immediately upon his introduction in Fight For It, and only loved him more as I got to know him better in this book. The gorgeous, fabulous, sassy dancer may be young with a touch of insecurity and a sad past, but he definitely knows what he wants - and Levi Wells is it. I loved seeing "Daddy" Levi brought to his knees by his baby boy. Being around Levi's age, I can understand some of his reservations and concerns about giving in to his feelings for Jay, but the story and their relationship both progress naturally and realistically. Levi and Jay are smoking hot together, but also incredibly sweet and tender - but WOW, their connection was palpable and the sparks between them almost burned up my kindle! I can honestly say there was not anything about this book I did not like. As always, A.D. Ellis has given us a well-written, perfectly paced small-town story with characters that are impossible not to love. And the unexpected appearance of Braeton and Drew from the author's Something About Him series was a fantastic surprise! I also really enjoyed getting more of Mitch and Cole from book 1 (and that epilogue, yay!!) and I cannot WAIT for Cody and Kennedy's story next! Those two are going to take us on a wild ride with them, of that I have no doubt.
While this book could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend starting with the first book in the series to fully experience Blueridge Junction, its golden boys, and the men capturing their hearts. You won't regret it.
The playful, flirty banter between "BJ Boy" tattoo artist Levi and decade-younger dancer Jay that began in Book 1 is in full force here as the two embark on their love story. "Can't Fight It" is a sweet, low angst May/December romance - one that's been building for two years! - with two likeable characters, and learning about Jay's pre-BJ history added more depth to the story. (And good on Jay for finally calling out Levi on his hangups about their age difference because someone needed to!)
Narrator Christopher Solon provided distinct voices for all of the characters, and I was especially impressed with his age appropriate/younger sounding voice for Jay (which was also consistent with Book 1).
This story could be listened to as a standalone, but you'll get more of a lead-in to Jay and Levi's initial dynamic, as well as the bond between the BJ Boys, if you start with Book 1 ("Fight for It"). I'm looking forward to rounding out the BJ Boys series with Cody and Kennedy's story next.
I received this audiobook for free by request and provided this honest review voluntarily.
After reading Fight For It, I had to read about the ever so persistent Jay and the brooding Levi because let’s face it, deep down inside we want those who have nothing but their love to give and give, to find each other and get that love in return. Can’t Fight It follows the story of 2 men who are complete opposites but find that they fit perfectly together. If you love yourself a heartfelt m/m romance, this one is one of those stories. Age and different personalities aside, Levi and Jay find themselves needing each other in different ways, Jay realizes this as soon as he enters the small town of Blueridge Junction 2 years ago, and Levi, well, resisting Jay because of the age gag. But after 2 years, Levi’s walls start to wear and he just can’t Fight his feelings anymore. Beautifully written, and very funny! I kept laughing and smiling at these two with their banters and of course their circle of friends were a plus! I cannot wait to read about Cody and Kennedy next!
Levi and Jay are definitely opposites but they fit together quite well. Jay needs someone to make him feel safe and loved after his traumatic childhood and Levi fills that need. I love the way Jay set his sights on Levi and refused to be discouraged by Levi's supposed lack of interest. Lack of interest... yeah, right!
Jay may be quite a bit younger than the others but he is wise beyond his years. He has such insight into people and situations and wants nothing more than for everybody to be happy. He is my favorite character in the series, which is saying a lot because I really like all 6 men.
All 6 men are an important part of the story even though the main focus is Levi and Jay.
Can't Fight It is a standalone but the story is much more enjoyable if you read Fight For It first. So much background information is relayed in Book 1 and the foundation for Jay and Levi's relationship is explained and explored so their story is more fulfilling having read the first book in the series. I urge you to read the series BJ Boys. The series has heart and soul.
Damm I think a young dog can teach the ol dog new tricks to give love a chance. A gorgeous story with love shinning through. I absolutely loved Jay's character having the fragile strength as Levi thinks. Jay maybe young but he is wise about what he believes true definitely worth the 2 years of persuing. Twinky Twinklerbell may get his man love that. Lol Ooh can't wait to read about Cody and Kennedy hate freindship in future books. Levi's wild dreams about Jay are getting out of control but he never puts into action. Being older at 30+ he didnt want Jays advances. Levi was a tattoo artist an worried about his rep and there age difference to concider anything real. Jay was 21 and a dancer working at the Strip Tease club. He'd been in BJ township for 2 years was tottally attached to levi or trying to. Jay's past was a mystery but I've a feeling its not a good one with him being hungry constantly.
I was so tickled to get to read Jay and Levi's story. I could tell from the first book in the series that it would be good and I was not wrong. Levi is such a strong, responsible character. He is interesting and an all around good guy. His problem with the age difference between himself and Jay is somewhat understandable, but I was glad the author did not belabor the point too much. She gave us a lot of book to enjoy once he let go of that notion. Jay. What can I say about Jay? He is probably the most interesting and lovable character that I've read by this author. His personality is vibrant and real. Engaging and puckish. There is just so much to him that I struggle to find the right words to do him justice. He and Levi play well against and for each other. Their passion is thick with emotion, and their intimacy is swelteringly hot. I look forward to Cody's story.
This is a fun story. It is totally opposites attracting and that makes it so much fun. Levi is over ten years older than Jay and Jay is the flashy stereotype gay man. Their personalities mostly clash until they don’t. Levi is a tattoo artist and Jay a dancer. There is just so much to love about this story including the secondary characters who are so much a part of the story. I don’t know who wouldn’t love a story that describes a room as “like a flamingo barfed all over my house”. The heartbreaking part is learning about Jay’s childhood. I have this author on my watch lists and start reading her books as soon as I can get them. Her other stories whether MM or the Torey Hope series brings hot sex and so much emotion that she is one of my few favorite authors and I read a lot.
This is the second book in the BJ Boy’s series. Again narrated by Christopher Solon. His voice fits the characters nicely. I really like his interpretation of Jay.
Jay has been pursuing the tattoo artist Levi for two years, since he’d first arrived in Blueridge Junction. Jay wants Levi to be his daddy, desperately. Using everything in his extended arsenal to get Levi’s attention. Levi tried his best to ignore the young dancer who visits his dreams every night. Hosting Jay’s birthday party was such a mistake and designing his tattoo just added to the confusion.
This was a slow sassy burn. Bit of drama. Not really sure the stalker drama was needed though. Nice characters, written nicely.
I loved gruff and protective Levi, and determined and sassy Jay; and their romance was a terrific read. Despite the inclusion of a stalker, and discussions about Jay's difficult childhood, the author still managed to provide a predominantly fun story. I haven't read the first book yet, but that did not keep me from enjoying this one. I liked the rest of the cast of characters and want to learn more about them, so I will be making sure I read the other books. This was a great story with a sweet and loving (and sexy!) couple. I highly recommend this one! I was provided with a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Jay and Levi are my favorites so far... oh man. don't get me wrong.. i cannot wait for the next book also and the first book was also perfection but these two tug at my heart soo much.. Jay has known who he is and who he loves for so long.. he has waiting.. he has flirted and he has loved... and levi i think he knew as well but he fought so hard.. this story was written so beautifully.. the emotions and feelings.. the characters.. and of course the plot of this story as always in the BJ boys world is wonderful. I loved it so much.. i am so glad i got to review this one and i cannot wait for the next!!
Levi has steered clear of love after his few forays have brought him trouble and heartache. Jay came into town two years ago, determined to make Levi fall in love with him. Over the two years they become friends with Jay doing everything possible to push Levi's buttons. Jay is stubborn in what he wants and he wants Levi, no matter what it takes to get him.
When Jay gets himself into a tight bind, Levi steps up his protective nature and while the two clash over their differences, the burn up the sheets in bed. But can that be enough to get over their difference and have a happy ever after.
This is a great book, there is a couple spots of angst and drama but nothing crazy.
Can't fight the inevitable! Age gap (not major but Jay is just about to turn 21 and Levi is in his early thirties) and opposites attract in this second instalment of the BJ Boys series. Jay is relentless in his pursuit for Levi and Levi is all out of excuses to fight the attraction that has always been there for the younger man. Except the physical attraction has deepened over the past two years in at least a friendship, so when Levi finally relents and begrudgingly acknowledges there may be a possibility for them after all, things kind of go from zero to sixty in two seconds flat! I loved Jay’s sassiness and Lev’s grumpy protectiveness.
I love how the more macho the character is the more heart they have and the harder they fall. I love how when you open a book and are instantly transported into another world that is so vivid that you feel you are actually there and the characters are so real that you can reach out and touch them. This series is so awesome can't wait for more.
I absolutely loved this book so much. It was such a well written story. It is packed with content that I just devoured. I love Levi and Jay so much. They are a great match, even with their differences.
-Spoilers- Jay is the young boy who has been driving Levi crazy with his teasing for 2 years. As they spend more time together, Jay slowly wears away at Levi until fireworks ignite! This book has steam, spice, and sweet spots.
This is Levi and Jay's story. Levi is older then Jay and quite a bit of the story revolves around Levi's issues with Jay's age. Jay, young, flirty, flamboyant, wants Levi and has a stalker. Jay is sassy, friendly, wants everyone to have hea and is a virgin. All of this stumps Levi into trying to understand why Jay wants him. Jay's mom is not a good person and when she dies Jay inherits some money and open a lgbtq center for kids in the surrounding towns. Of course, they get their hea.
I’m really enjoying the characters in this series. I was hoping for a little more of the banter between Levi & Jay like we saw in book 1, but it was still a great story. Emotional & heartfelt, sexy & romantic, drama & humor, this book has it all. The narration was fabulous. This is book 2 with an HEA and can be read as a standalone. I recommend this book/series!
Really love the second book in this series. The buildup from the first book got me excited to see how Levi eventually crumbles and gives in to Jay. It was long time coming but both guys deserve happiness and it was great. As always, the narrator did a wonderful job and love his voice. Great story with a great group of guys.
I received a free code for this audible and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Levi Wells and Jay Owens are an unlikely pair. Jay’s a flamboyantly gay dancer who’s just about to celebrate being able to have an alcoholic beverage and Levi is a gruff tattoo artist more than a decade his senior.
Jay’s determined to put his rough childhood behind him and even more determined to wear away Levi’s resistance to his teasing allure.
AD Ellis’s story is centered in Blueridge Junction, and friendships are at the core of this series and story. Those supporting characters are vital to Jay and Levi’s story, even as their growing connection shines.
Yep it’s official. This is my favorite series by A.D. Ellis. I fell in love with Jay in Fight For It. Getting to know Levi here had him getting a space there, too. In fact I love all the BJ Boys. It was great to se how Micah and Cole have been doing. And the ending was beautiful. Now we have to see what happens with Kennedy and Cody. So many thoughts there on how that can go.
