Full disclosure: I don’t like reality shows or soap operas so let’s just say I didn’t really like this book.
The most gratifying element of reading exists between the connection built with the characters. A deep, emotional bond developed as we become immersed in their world, including their issues, insecurities, love, and overall adventure; it's like experiencing an anecdote instead merely hearing it. Which is why characters are so integral to a novel's success and also explains my dislike for Burned.
Sadie and Rhys were two character's I didn't like, besides being recycled (Sadie) and cardboard (Rhys), they also lacked complexity. Their love story was too sophomoric and unbelievable, but it's also not explained. Why are they in love? I still don't know, and the chemistry wasn't there, it was like they were forced together by the author.
Sadie was insecure throughout the novel, allowing ex-boyfriends, evil mothers, and devil spawns dictate her future and self-worth. Which is why Burned should've been a novel centered around self-discovery/realization and her "coming-of-age." Not a love half-done love story, because Sadie didn't need external love, she needed internal love before she could accept a guy like Rhys. Them breaking up didn't accomplish this either.
Rhys was a great guy that loves hard
and falls instantly for Sadie. He's a single dad and Welsh... That's the scope of his character, and we don't receive anything beyond these few points. Rhys should have been the one pushing Sadie away because she was so insecure and needed to build herself. His daughter has much complexity than either Sadie and Rhys.
Carys is the loco daughter of Rhys, playing the part of sweet, charming girl. Her character is difficult and multi-textured because there are many issues evident. She tries to break up the h/h at every turn because she's threatened by her father's relationships with other women. Therefore she sabotages them by being a pathological liar throughout the novel, making life hell for the women and telling her father they're mean to her. She learns her lesson after she breaks up the h/h, but only told the truth because her father was unhappy. She didn't find fault with her measures to exterminate Sadie and wanted to be forgiven immediately. Her thinking is corrupted and causes her to become violent in her effort to rid them of Sadie she does many things (including manipulation of Rhys), but one is harm. Carys loves horses, especially her horses, but decides to stab her horse in the butt with a needle (which is premeditated) to have Sadie thrown from her horse. After everything, she accomplishes her goal of separating the h/h, but because her father is angry, she decides to . She needs way more than a couple of months of therapy before she'd be mentally healthy, which she doesn't get.
The first half of the story was very operatic and had too many sub-plots and directional changes, along with overly dramatic situations. I counted the amount of time something extreme happens in the storyline including unbelievable parts, and it was quite significant.
Just way too much going on for me.

Sadie, a selfless heroine singed by love makes a promise to herself to leave love alone. When the heroine meets Rhys she's had enough of men and their lies and empty promises. The hero tries hard to convince her he's different. Though reluctant to get involved she lets down her defenses and things are good until she meets his teen she-devil daughter, Carys.
Carys says and does things that would have most people wanting to call in Black Ops to take care of her. Meanwhile, Sadie takes the cruel digs and insinuations as long as she can. The final straw is when she nearly loses her life and she uncharacteristically unleashes her pent-up anger at the teen.
The road to recovery and clarity is a long one for everyone involved and sometimes the story gets a bit cliche, but I liked it anyway. I appreciate that the author gives her readers a complete and satisfying story that put a smile on my face. I also want to give props to this author for writing a kinder and gentler Alpha hero.

Rhys and Sadie
I love this story on more than one level. It is a beautiful love story about two individuals who have had more than their share of trial and tribulations.
Sadie had a horrible childhood based on the sadistic behavior of her mother. She also had a string of bad boyfriends which soured her somewhat towards relationships. But for the love of her sisters she probably would have been a different person.
Rhys grew up in a loving family but he too had a tough time with relationships especially his ex-wife.
The part in the book that got me in the gut was when she went into premature labor at 24 weeks gestation. This was my story 22 years ago. I even remember my ob/gyn telling me that if I was religious, I should start praying. It touched me on so many levels. I absolutely loved this story.

Sadie has been burned by love. Not just the type of love between a man and a woman but also by family. Sadie has a sweet nature, forgives easily and has a giving spirit. While these attributes are wonderful for a person to have people have manipulated and used Sadie's gifts against her.
Sadie has been burned to the point where she has low self esteem and is wary of any attractive man remotely finding her attractive.
In comes Rhys the handsome single father and professor from Wales. He seems way to good to be true making Sadie fight her feelings for him. When Sadie gives up on fighting her feelings they both fall madly in love. The problem: Rhys teenager crazy daughter.
Ms. Vaughn did an excellent job of illustrating what it's like for a single woman to date a man with a child. On one side she illustrate Sadie's reluctance to date another man with a child and forming an attachment. The author was realistic in showing how the relationship progresses to the point that Rhys knows he wants to spend his life with Sadie so he deems it necessary for both people to meet.
There are so many issues explored, from dealing with familial abuse, having a child with mental health issues to learning how to love yourself.
I also loved the interactions between Sadie and her sisters to Rhys and his brother. While this was a romance the author gives you a realistic view on love and relationships. I'm looking forward to reading Lily and Collins story. Hopefully the other sisters will find their own happiness as well in their own stories.
I'm giving this story five stars.

Really good read
This book had it all. Think of a way to get burned by life and Sadie has probably survived it. This book touched on some manys issues. Grab a copy of this book and watch Sadie be strong woman and come through even stronger and discover why Rhys is the only man for her.

I was frustrated and annoyed throughout the first half of the book. There is a fine line between being sweet and just being a pushover and not being wise. Sadie was like this throughout the story and in some instances, it made the events not believable and not relatable. However, I am glad I persevered through and finished the story. It ended well and the story touched on various subjects such as suicide, abuse, forgiveness, and redemption.

Not what I thought
It was okay it could've been better. And I'm sorry to say but Sadie got on my nerves but not only her Rhys, Sadie's mother Jackie and Rhys crazy ass daughter Carys. The character I did actually like was Lily and I can't wait to read her story. This book just has way too much drama sometimes it was good and others times I wanted to give up on this book. Eve Vaughn is still one of my favorite author but I'm sad to say this one was a miss for me.

This is one of my favourite authors. I really enjoyed Rhys and Sadie's story. I loved it when Sadie stopped being the nice woman and started standing up for herself. Rhys should not have doubted Sadie and should have opened his eyes to what his daughter was doing. This was an engaging read.

Sadie had her issues, Rhys and Carys got on my nerve. I tend to like HEA. But I don't think there should have been one after what Rhys put her through. Sometimes an apology just isn't good enough. I did like that Sadie didn't forgive him after a day (which is usually want happens in romance novels).

Sadie had a lot of issues that she obviously had not worked on before meeting Rhys and poor man had to work really hard to even get her to go out with him. She was a bit hard to like and at the same time you cold understand where she was coming from.

I really, really enjoyed this story. I understood both the hero and the heroine and how their pasts colored their actions. I really Sadie Flowers is a woman that has been hurt, betrayed and mistreated fro much of her life. She had three loving and protective sisters and a vitrolic, conniving, evil witch of a mother. Her self esteem had been battered and she was caste away like an unwanted pair of shoes. But in spite of all that she had been through, she found the strength to begin to value herself and create her own place in the world.
Rhys Edwards is a professor at the University and a single father of a precious 14 year old brat ... er daughter.. He found himself captivated by a student in his class. He knew he could not date her while she took his class but he was willing to watch her and wait until the semester was over before pursuing her. As luck would have it, Sadie was in his class by mistake! Then he found out she was a Staff Member of the University. He was free to begin his pursuit of the elusive Sadie.
They begin to get close and gently fall in love but all is not roses and sunshine. Her past and his daughter pose challenges that may be insurmountable. Sadie has been burned by love with her last two exes, Jordan and Terrell. She's given up on love and handsome men. Throw in a horrendous mother, some extra pounds on her body, super model sisters and a bit of low self esteem and you have a pretty damaged heroine that doesn't see her value at all. Enter Rhys, a super hot professor that Sadie encounters at her new job, who takes one look at Sadie and is immediately intrigued and drawn to her. Sadie's reluctant to pursue anything with Rhys but his persistence wears her down. This couple had a truly rocky road with a lot of ups and downs and a few surprises thrown in.
Eve always manages to give me a character or a few to hate in her books and I was waiting for the shoe to drop in this one. Boy was I not disappointed, when you gave me several to hate. There were moments when I wanted to reach into the book and slap several folks.
The unexpected tension between Rhys' brother and one of Sadie's sisters was a nice surprise. I am hoping there is a book in the future for this couple because I am already intrigued.

Fear can be crippling!
Especially if one's had an abusive childhood with a mother who was more of a witch than a loving mother. Almost every character was burned by a past relationship. Besides being mentally abused by her mother, Sadie had her heart broken several times. She had a kind heart and a sweet personality but her self esteem was through the toilet bad. Rhys had a tragically failed marriage and threw all of his time and energy into the care of his daughter Carys. Carys was burned because of her incredibly selfish mother and she was afraid to lose the only man she knew to be her father and tried her best, very successfully to run off all of her father's love interest.
Eve wrote a heart wrenching story about two people who have been hurt in the past trying to have a love relationship despite other people getting in the way. I just love how all of the sisters rallied around each other in time of need. I can see some spin off stories about the sisters, especially Lily and Rhys' brother Colin.

Rollercoaster ride!
This book was full of emotional ups and downs; from everyone.
Sadie had some issues that at first, exasperated me but later broke my heart once I read more of her story.
Rhys was smitten from the jump but he too had issues; over compensating with his daughter due to his ex.
Carys was a mess; typical spoiled brat but with some shred of decency still lurking underneath her teenage pettiness.
Sadie's mother was evil incarnate; that wench got what she deserved though.
This book made it clear that mental health needs to be addressed more openly cause every last person needed some damn help!
Usual Eve Vaughn book that will stick to your emotions long after the epilogue.

The hero and heroine get In a huge fight and our broken up 2/3 of the book. They barely get back together and then book jumps ahead a year and ends. There was not 1 thing i liked about the book it was very disappointing.

This book had all of the feels in it. The journey to HEA for Sadie was difficult but I'm happy that she eventually got it. There were so many obstacles that she had to overcome but her resilience was inspiring. Rhys needed to wake up sooner but I'm glad that his journey back to her was difficult. It made him appreciate what he had in Sadie more. But the many people that caused Sadie heartache and grief I wanted to strangle. Great read.

Started off slow got good ended kinda ehh
So it took me awhile to read this story bc it was too slow but once i got through the part where she gave him a chance it was really good. But this story started to get unbelievable and killing off of characters i felt was done bc we didn’t have any other reasons to keep them in the story. And them finally towards the end the story’s dialogue didn’t even seem like eve Vaughn’s writing. It was just unrealistic.

A Very Good and Sensual Interracial Romantic Novel
Burned is a very good and sensual interracial romantic novel that earned a rating of four stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as Rhys fell in love with Sadie the first time he laid eyes on her. They had to overcome a lot of obstacles from family and outside forces to find their happy ever after. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading very good romantic novels.

Ups and downs
This was a solid story. I liked the ups and downs that the characters faced and that they were all 3 dimensional characters. I did feel as if the chemistry between the H/h were a bit lacking they said the words but I didn’t feel it. Again this was a solid story with solid characters

Burned: Sadie and Rhys ...💞 Great job Eve!!
This book had me all up in my feelings. The H/ h were my favorite characters. Their chemistry and Love was so obvious. Sadie had a horrible childhood. Verbal and physical abuse from a mother figure who actually a monster. The other characters good guys and villains contributed to making this a totally fantastic story💕👏👏👏

Excellent read
I enjoyed reading this book. There were a few things that really irked me. Sadie angered me by giving Jackie to much control. Rhys with his eyes closed when it came to his sabotaging daughter and the truth. Happy they got a happy ending.
I enjoyed reading this book. There were a few things that really irked me. Sadie angered me by giving Jackie to much control. Rhys with his eyes closed when it came to his sabotaging daughter and the truth. Happy they got a happy ending.

It was a good book but than it just started to drag and I️ just wanted it to end Sadie started getting on my nerves after the baby got out of the hospital. So happy this book is over this is going into my read one time books...ugh

As always Eve Vaughn writes lovely book. I really enjoyed this book and I'm hoping and praying there is a book on Lily and Colin's story because i can already see that it will be an interesting read. Anywho all in all i truely did enjoy this book

Made it to chapter ten and couldn’t get behind the characters and the depth of their relationship. Not enough of the relationship building was given so I had a hard time connecting with their love for each other.

More like 3.5 stars. I liked it but it isn't one of my favorites by the author. Still, it's a good read.

Eve has done it again, this is definitely a rainy day reading. It had a bit of humour, heart break, perseverance and lots of love.

I don't understand Eve Vaughn has been one of my favorite authors, but the last 2 books left a lot to be desired. Weak female characters, lots of unnecessary drama, boring dialogues
