This is a collection of short stories and novel excerpts from writers associated with the PulpRev movement in the latter half of 2017. PulpRev is a literary movement aimed at restoring the spirit of the old pulp adventures, not just the aesthetic, and has roots in the Appendix N and OSR movements.
Note: This anthology is intended as a sampler, and stories within are very short (2,500 words or less). John C. Wright's contribution is available for free at his website. This anthology itself is available for free for those who sign up for the PulpRev mailing list by sending an email to scoop@pulprev.com with the subject line "Subscribe."
This book is a good illustration of how it's very difficult to write a satisfying short story in only three to four thousand words. There are two or three very good stories in here, but most of the others are really excerpts of what is obviously a larger story and don't really come to a gratifying conclusion.
I know this because I'm guilty of doing it myself. I once wrote a short story that didn't really properly conclude. The publisher pointed this out and rejected the story. I ended up turning that story into three novels: Skull Crusher, Rise of the Skull Crusher, and Fall of the Skull Crusher.
The best way to describe this is as a Southern Sunday pot-luck, where everyone brought something unique and while not everything is to taste, the whole plate is good enough I still want seconds.
