Enchanted: A Christmas Collection

Rate this book
A Collection of Heartwarming, Small-Town Holiday Romances One Enchanted Christmas Last December, author Maren Grant went on a magical date with her book’s cover model—Colin Renwycke. Fast forward one year. With a looming deadline, Maren is desperate to recapture her creative spark. Then she remembers Colin’s invitation to visit his family’s Iowa farm… Drew Renwycke never planned to move home and take over the farm. But he’s spent too many years watching his siblings unravel—including Colin. When Maren lands on his doorstep, he realizes she may be the key to coaxing his brother home. (originally published as a standalone in 2015) One Enchanted Eve As a Denver Culinary Institute student, Colin Renwyke is out to embark on a new career as a pastry chef. But despite his skills in the kitchen, he’s a mess in the classroom and his ongoing disasters are proving too much for his prickly instructor. If he loses his spot at the school, he's out of backup plans. Culinary school instructor Rylan Jefferson has the chance to reclaim her dream of running her own bakery. But she only has until Christmas Eve to come up with the perfect recipe to impress an eccentric investor. She has no time for holiday parties or family plans . . . and especially not for her unruliest student baker. But Colin has the one ingredient Rylan needs most—talent. Lots of it. And when he makes a proposal that just might solve both their problems, Rylan can't say no. (originally published as a standalone in 2016) One Enchanted Noel When Seb Pierce agreed to work for his wealthy grandfather for one year—in return for an early draw on his inheritance—he never expected the agreement to land him in a quirky small town in Iowa at Christmas-time, renovating a dilapidated theater…and running into a woman he never thought he’d see again. Although she’s finally settled in her hometown, Leigh Renwycke can’t shake the familiar restlessness that used to get her into trouble. When Seb Pierce waltzes into her world and begs for her help planning the theater’s holiday reopening, it might be enough to jumpstart a new career…and to prove once and for all that the new-and-improved Leigh is here to stay. Until old secrets and new sparks get in the way... (brand new in 2017!)

One Enchanted Christmas

Melissa just makes me smile with her clever prose, the normalness (is that even a word? We’re going with it here.) of her characters, and the laugh-out-loud situations her characters find themselves in. I literally laughed while reading this one!

Case in point: check out this line concerning the fashionable-yet-not-warm-for-snow attire of our main character, Maren. “But a girl didn’t meet a man who might be the love of her life dressed like an Eskimo”- chapter 1. That ought to make you smile!

Besides the heartwarming characters and storyline, one other unique element to this novella was the use of a “narrator”. The narrator set up the story and added a few little side commentary moments which were so clever! And, something new-to-me in fiction. This device allows the story to move faster and still flow, filling in necessary details without cheating on story, and revealing the true feelings of Drew and Maren like an all-knowing outside perspective.

If you’re looking for a quick, sweet, and touching read that’s perfect for the Christmas season, look no further than this novella! And did I mention it’s an independently-published endeavor by Melissa herself? Go support her spunk today.

One Enchanted Eve

This novella proves there is always more to the story behind the seemingly antihero of the previous story, illustrating everyone has a journey and has trials. I love revisiting Maple Valley, especially the Renwyckes for Christmas. This is a must-read Christmas novella! The combo of drama, humor, and family is just perfect. And I can’t forget to mention the bonding that happens between Collin and Rylan over pastry and the flirting with recipe cards = swoon! In true “Tagg” style, this story is at once nostalgic and insightful, drawing out an emotional depth and realness from its characters, taking us home for Christmas and to blessings in unexpected little things.

One Enchanted Noel

Just when I think I couldn't love Melissa Tagg's storytelling more, she goes and does something surprising like this and writes two new, compelling lead characters - one of which is a COWBOY! A gentleman complete with a Texas drawl and plaid shirts, even if he does originally hale from California. I can't see his name in print without pronouncing it in my head just like Leigh always calls him: Sebastian Parker Pierce III. He's a catch! :)

And then there's Leigh. The last of the Renwycke siblings to befriend. My heart just wants to hug her and tell her she is loved for who she IS and who she is daily choosing to BE. Thankfully, a host of family and a few friends, most notably Seb and his knowing care, encourage her along the way. She learns an important lesson of dreaming and reaching and trusting God to have insanely awesome plans for her life.

My movie-nerd self LOVED the fact that Sebastian is renovating a MOVIE THEATER!!! Speaking from personal experience in that setting, Melissa got her facts very straight except for one teeny, tiny detail that is totally forgivable for the sake of artistic license and the resulting cute scene ;) . I could virtually hear the projectors whirring and smell the popcorn as I read.

One Enchanted Noel has the signature humor and pop culture I've come to expect from Melissa, set in the "enchanting" world of Maple Valley with its quirkiness. Among many other things, I LOVED getting to see the humor of Mayor Milt again and a "peek behind the curtain" of his attitude in one little scene. But at the heart of it all is a message of hope and dreams within grasp, of supporting family and embracing new beginnings.

This is a bind-up of three novellas, each following one of the three siblings in this particular family as each one gets his/her happy ending.

One Enchanted Christmas (Drew’s Story):

I thought this one was cute, but I also felt majorly baited and switched since it sounded like Maren’s relationship was fling to be with Colin (which was giving me vibes of The Lost City movie since Sandra Bullock, who plays an author in the movie, falls in love with her cover model). Then it seemed like it was going in a different direction and I thought she would fall in love with her book agent. And then Colin was introduced and I had no idea who he was, haha. I did think the story was cute and once I realized who the love interest actually was, I liked them together.

One Enchanted Eve (Colin’s Story):

Finally! A romance where the girl is older than the guy and neither of them cared! I also thought the way the teacher/student relationship (sort of) was handled. Colin showed a lot of maturity but was also flirty and charming and fun.

One Enchanted Noel (Leigh’s Story):

I liked this one least I think. Leigh’s story just seemed heavier since she’s a recovering addict. I usually prefer more light hearted Christmas books, even though this did end happily and on a hopeful note.

What a delight! Three Christmas novellas set in Melissa Tagg's fictional small town of Maple Valley, Iowa - a place that is sure to steal your heart. The novellas focus on the Renwycke siblings:

Drew, the handyman big brother who wants to fix everything;
Colin, the one who has spent most of his life bouncing aimlessly from one pursuit to another; and
Leigh, the sassy single mom who feels like she can't measure up

Each novella features clean yet toe-curling romance and characters who will stay with you long after you turn the last page. Let yourself be swept away in a wintry Christmas wonderland this holiday season!

3.5⭐️ As a whole, this was an enjoyable book of novellas—a bit “hallmarky”, but still enjoyable.

What I liked: First, let me say how nice it is too read novellas that are connected! It makes the story feel longer and more complete 😊 Tagg is a talented author and her characters are always so well developed and likeable.

For shorter books, these stories packed a punch when it came to plot as well as detail! I found many things hilarious and also felt the burden of the characters that were struggling with past failures/guilt. I think the second story (Colin’s) was probably my favorite, which was a surprise! In the first book, I was sure I was not going to like the guy. He won me over quickly!

What I didn’t like: As I said above, these stories had a lot of grit to the plot (the family struggles were real and tough), but there was very little spiritual depth. That was unfortunate, because there was definitely a lot of opportunity. God is mentioned, but it just felt more like an afterthought or as I said before, “hallmark” style.

Some might not be bugged by this, but I didn’t like how the characters often were alone in kind of sketchy situations. For example, in the second book, the two leads stay at the same house alone the entire trip. They clearly sleep separate, but why do we play around with temptation even in fiction? There are also a few kisses (the first story was the least descriptive) that were a bit more descriptive, but I will say, the love stories were very clean.

In the end, I liked this well written, entertaining book. If it hadn’t been for the things I mentioned above, it could have easily been a 4⭐️ It was very nice visiting Maple Valley again, especially at Christmas time.

Enchanting...romantic...idyllic...whimsical...serendipitous...there are so many words I could use to describe this wonderful collection of Christmas novellas. If you're a fan of Melissa Tagg's Walker Series than you'll LOVE revisiting the quaint town of Maple Valley to meet the Renwycke siblings! If you've never heard of the Walkers or Maple Valley or Mayor Milt then these trio of sweet stories will sweep you away in the twinkling wonderment of holiday romance, quick-witted humor, and introduce you to a family that'll stay with you long after the last ornament has been tucked away.

I love the depth of character Ms. Tagg brings to the page with each character. Not cookie-cutter in any way, the plots of all three stories weave seamlessly to bring together a fractured family in need of forgiveness, grace, and purpose. Ms. Tagg's unique voice comes alive and it's impossible to not be enchanted once again.

What a perfect Christmas Novella Collection. I love the small town of Maple Valley. I want to move there, with all of their Christmas events, they do through the whole month of December. I fell in love with the Renwycke family. They are not all perfect, each has their own problems. I found the family very believable. I was looking for an easy Christmas read. Something light and not too heavy, but I got so much more. I have always loved Melissa Tagg's style of writing. She takes you on an adventure, you are not going to soon forget. Melissa is not afraid to tackle some very hard subjects in these novellas, substance addiction and recovery, sibling rivalry, rebellious teenager, and fathers Alzheimer diagnosis. There are many fun and laugh out loud funny parts, but be prepared, you might shed some tears.

Enchanting! Enchanting! Enchanting!

Such a wonderful Christmas collection! Three stories, each featuring one of the Renwycke siblings, Drew, Colin, and Leigh. Set in the quaint, quirky town of Maple Valley, Iowa.
I loved seeing the Renwyckes grow and overcome their personal difficulties. Each one finding their passion for life and each finding love. There was a lot of healing that had to take place. Melissa Tagg weaves the struggles and healing together with a sweet message of hope. There are plenty of laughs and swoon-inducing kisses too.
I borrowed this collection from Kindle Unlimited. I do own all three individual stories separately. I just wanted to read them from beginning to end without stopping. I'm so very glad I did.

Beautiful stories!

I loved this series. Maple Valley is the perfect small town. I fell in love with this little town in the Walker Family Series. Now you can continue to step back into that little town with this series, as it takes place in the same quirky little town. Though they are novellas the stories are packed with depth. Each story will touch your heart. As true to all of her books Ms Tagg writes with humor, compassion & faith with love mixed in.

I have read countless Christmas works, but this series is far and above my favorite. I sometimes regret that novellas are so short because I leave wanting more from the characters or plot. All three of these left me perfectly satisfied. Her writing is witty, the dialogue captivating, and her characters incredibly real. Maple Valley captured by heart with her full length novel series, but adding Christmas to this quirky, quaint town made me love it even more.

This collection of novellas was amazing! Getting to know the Renwycke family in the charming and quirky town of Maple Valley was a wonderful experience. Each story held complex characters, real relationships, and plots that flowed smoothly. Although I'm not a fan of novellas, these tales never felt rushed or unbelievable. Melissa Tagg continues to have unique backstories and flaws for her characters that intrigue and make her writing unputdownable.

Renwycke Family Trilogy

I can't even future out where to start...I want to stay in their attic, I want to insecurities from Drew, talk books with Maren, make dessert with Colin and Rylan, and watch a movie at Seb's theater while talking piano with Leigh. These characters come to life in such unique ways you'll want to find them and get to know them better. The foundation of family, forgiveness, and redemption run through this book and renew your faith in humanity.

Enchanting indeed!

What a trio of enchanting stories! The Renwycke family is fractured. Each member has his/her own flaws. Real true-to-life flaws. The author develops each character skillfully and helps the reader to truly like each one. The quirky town is a delightful character of its own. I’m glad I discovered this author.

Great Christmas stories!

So happy Melissa chose to give all three siblings a book. This book was a little different, since it was about a broken family and the oldest brothers attempt to "fix" them. The characters were complex and their spiritual struggles were realistic. This is a book I will re-read each Christmas season.

Heartwarming Christmas Stories

This is an enchanting collection of Christmas novellas, each a full story of its own. None felt like a novella - there was so much emotion, so much depth to each story. I loved reading the stories of the Renwycke family as each found their HEA, and I loved spending some time in Maple Valley! This is a joyous, magical read!

Redemption and romance.

At first, I thought these were merely cute, romantic Christmas stories. I was very wrong! In Leigh’s story mainly, but in all of them, there is a continuing theme. God really can change the heart of the most unlikely person. All of the characters were changed in some way by the Christ, the reason we celebrate Christmas. Well done!

Drie prachtige novelles.

Lovely stories starting Drew, Colin and Leigh, all of whom have issues to work through while developing new romantic relationships at the same time. Sweet, but not too sweet, just right.
