" We Met in Paris " challenges previous depictions of Grace Frick and the couple she formed with the first French Académicienne. It is a scrupulously documented, intimate portrait of both women in which Frick emerges as a woman of substance in her own right. In addition to ten years of research, dozens of interviews with people who were close to Frick and Yourcenar, and an immense volume of published and unpublished correspondence, Howard's book is enriched by personal conversations with the author about her and Frick's life. It was long-listed for the 2019 PEN/Jacqueline Bograd Weld Award for Biography.
Wonderful literary biography! I was not all that aware of Frick & Yourcenar but got drawn in. A very well written portrait of a shared creative life. The notes were fascinating.
