Story took place London & elsewhere in 1812.

Anthony was a viscount & Kate a baron's niece. Kate
thought Anthony pompous & formidable & he consid
ered Kate "lower gentry."

Kate worked @ an elite school for girls, & 1 afternoon
a week at a residential 'charity school' for poor kids
& Moms. She started fund-raising on behalf of 'the
charity school.'

Class played a big role in this novella. Anthony made
assumptions RE Kate & her brother, based on their
lower social status & the behavior of their late father
(for which they had no part). Kate's war hero brother,
was attracted to Anthony's sister.

Kate was no 'shrinking violet' and went toe to toe
with Anthony. Anthony gradually became more
reasonable and a man more deserving of Kate. A
sweet kisses only love story.

**************************************
A re-read. Anthony seemed forbidding, lofty & bored.
He was the brother of bluestocking Kate's former
pupil Violet. He considered Kate and her bro Freddie
beneath them until he saw Kate's uncle Harold's
impressive home. Fred served as uncle's heir.

Kate's late sire was a gambler & his family some-
times went w/o food. Anthony paid off Fred to leave
Vi alone. Then something happened... resulting in
the MCs road-trip.

Starchy Anthony found Kate feisty, sharp-tongued &
unconventionally attractive. He told her she was too
kind-hearted, but all these qualities intrigued him.

My fav. scene? When Kate broke off the physical
altercation between Anthony and her brother.

The December 2024 #TBRChallenge is "It's a Party!" I am not much in a partying (or festive, for that matter) mood, and work has been absolutely insane, so I grabbed a novella that promised a party scene. I've enjoyed this author's work before, so it was a no brainer. Mercifully, I managed to finish it in time for the deadline!

This is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. There is a LOT going on here - two pairings, instalove, instahate, elopement, forced proximity, social pressure, charity work, and even a couple of fights. That's a lot to pack into 118 pages. This novella suffers the same issues as most novellas - too much plot in too small a page count. The instalove pairing between Freddie and Violet was the one that worked; even though supposedly 4 months had passed from beginning to end, Anthony and Kate's enemies-to-lovers romance suffered from major whiplash. I didn't believe those two had fallen in love at all. This is not my trope, which didn't help, but I just can't see them going from telling each other off in September to marriage in time for New Years. E-to-L requires more development to make it believable, especially if these two have basically just met.

Anthony's stepmother (full of social prejudice) was a formidable foe for Kate, but even she seemed to wither off at the end. I didn't understand why she and Anthony hated Freddie so much if they'd done as much digging into his background as they claimed. They knew he was an heir to a barony, why was it such a shocking surprise that it was one that came with wealth? That hardly makes Freddie a gold digger.

All in all, this was fine. Not spectacular; not awful, either. The pages were turning at a suitable pace, and there were some variations on the theme.

DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW novella, by Amy Rose Bennett, is a quick reading ENEMIES TO MORE trope Historical Romance with a spirited blue-stocking heroine and a supercilious viscount hero.
My rating guide: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= Yes, it was okay; 4= I LIKED IT a lot; 5= A favorite, it was great!

Miss Kate Woodville/FMC at 25yrs is a blue-stocking spinster, a teacher both by choice and necessity. Although Kate is aware of a few love matches, she has no desire to wed herself. Her observations during the terrible marriage of her parents has put her firmly off marrying. When viscount, Lord Anthony Stanton/MMC, approaches Kate demanding she keep her brother away from his own younger sister, Kate is embarrassed, frustrated, and angered. And so begins DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW novella, a spirited Enemies to More trope story that brought a smile, completing it in less than 3 hrs. Apparently, DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW was originally part of an anthology which has since been released as a standalone title. I enjoyed it as the latter and look forward to checking out additional titles by Amy Rose Bennett.

I recommend DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW novella to readers of Historical fiction with HEAs and to those who enjoy quick reads before bed, during lunch, or simply in between books of longer duration - to break things up. DTTS has a spunky, independent FMC and a wealthy, prestigious and supercilious MMC. Although it rather seemed as if the viscount curtailed his anger and relented only after witnessing the fashionable estates and wealth of Kate’s uncle, the Baron, it might also have been a factor of time, and better understanding Kate and her brother’s backgrounds. Overall, I enjoyed DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW novella very much. I read DTTS in April and wasn’t bothered at all by the brief holiday references, feeling this title could absolutely be read year round.

READER CAUTIONS -
VIOLENCE - Fisticuffs due mainly to misunderstandings (nothing worse than 1960’s Gunsmoke or Bonanza tv program).
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used infrequently.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Talk of the dangers of “being ruined” but no on-scene graphic intimacies; a kissing scene that is interrupted before getting much beyond the kiss.

Kate is a musician as well as a teacher of music at a school for young ladies. Her brother, Freddie, has returned from the Napoleonic war with an injury. And he seems to be rather aimless.

But, in reality his aim is very accurate. He has met a young woman, Violet, and the two of them have fallen in deeply love.

Unfortunately, that young woman is the sister to a man, Anthony, who believes that Freddie and Kate are beneath he and his family. There is no comparison with the upper class and people who must be employed in order to live.

This is a fast read. Things move along at a good pace and everything is quite easy to follow.

This is a sweet read. There is attraction but no descriptions of sexual activities.

Kate is an intelligent woman who is unafraid to say exactly what she thinks. People are never unaware of how she feels or what she thinks. She is also devoted to helping others who are in need. There is a charity which is near and dear to her heart. She works hard to raise money in order to help that charity.

Anthony is a man who is very impressed with his own importance and the importance of his family. He is also quite able to let others know that they are far beneath him. He is not easy to like. But, Kate is attracted to the fact that he is quite handsome. She believes she will never marry, but that does not prevent her from admiring a good looking man.

The story has humor. The characters are well done. It is easy to see exactly who everyone is. .

They say opposites attract. Here is a good example of that.

Spinster by choice, Kate Woodville, is a piano teacher at Mrs. Brooke’s Academy for Young Ladies, she also volunteers teaching music at the White Church House for The Benevolent Society for the Women of Whitechapel. She is headstrong and a bluestocking through and through. She gives as good as she gets.

Freddie Woodville, military officer just back from the war, released his commission, is fun loving, easy going, and her dear brother. Heir to his uncle.

Harold Woodville, Baron Rookhope, uncle to Kate and Freddie.

Miss Violet Lockhart, sister to Lord Anthony Lockhart Viscount Stanton, are total opposites. Violet is sweet, innocent, and charming where Anthony is brooding, grumpy, and stern.

Freddie and Violet set off Anthony who drags Kate along. So join the mad dash to catch Freddie and Violet and see what Anthony does to Kate. Kate tries to keep a level head throughout the journey so that Lord Stanton does not try to maim her brother.

What did Freddie and Violet do? Does Kate succeed in keeping Lord Stanton calm and at an emotional distance? Does Lord Stanton keep his cool, is he in time to stop them, and what does he do to Freddie?

Join the mad rush through the countryside and north England as Kate and Lord Stanton try to catch Freddie and Violet. With snappy set downs to the Dowager Viscountess, who deserves them, and to Lord Stanton. You will have a laugh out loud time reading this story.

A lovely Regency novella about school teacher and a Baron's niece, Katherine (aka Kate) and Anthony, the Viscount of Stanton. They meet at Vauxhall Gardens for the first time when Anthony's sister, Violet greets her old music teacher, Kate and her brother, Freddie - a newly resigned, decorated war officer. Violet and Freddie fall madly in love and hatch a plan to elope and Anthony finds his sister gone from the inn and coerces Kate to go with him to chase them down. This involves several nights in each other's company in a freezing cold carriage during wintertime as they chase the errant pair.
Kate is a delightful, feisty and independent young lady who never intends to marry. Anthony, is only interested in catching up to his sister but finds himself greatly admiring and attracted to Kate. Can these enemies put their differences aside and come to like each other? They certainly do but only at the very end. I wish the HEA was a bit longer and in more detail.
This was a charming, clean read with a good storyline and likeable characters. An enjoyable book.

Dashing Through the Snow

Here is an another wonderful story by Amy Rose Bennett. It is about a couple meeting for the first time and falling in love. They tried to fight it but couldn't. The brother, the hero, of the couple was very angry because they would not stop seeing each other. So hero paid him to stop seeing his sister so he took the money the money from the hero and promised to stop seeing her. No to give away anything, the hero and heroine dashed away to find them. It was a wonderful story. It kept me turning the pages. There were a few errors which I let the author know about but it didn't take away from the story. I hope you will enjoy reading this story as much as I did. I have read all of her books except two of them which is on my must read list.

I found this to be quite the enjoyable holiday romance (holiday because it mainly takes place from Christmas to New Year's). This is a clean romance which I don't typically read, but I still felt it was a good romance story in spite of that. I loved how much detail was actually put into this story about the characters' backgrounds and other historical details. If there was one thing I would criticize, it would be that the ending was quite abrupt with the two main characters having a somewhat sudden change of heart towards each other. Otherwise, I know I can always count on Amy Rose Bennett for a good story!

This is the first book that i have read by this author but it definitely won't be the last. Lord Stanton doesn't want his sister Violet to have anything to do with Freddie. Kate is Freddie's sister and she gets pulled into the middle. Lord Stanton is cold and aloof until he demands that Kate go with him on a dash across the countryside to stop Freddie and Violet from getting married. Somewhere along the way he realizes that stopping them is not his top priority. Getting Kate to become his is. This is a heartwarming tale and I would definitely recommend it.

Heartwarming

This delightful and fun Regency Christmas Novella will definitely give you a heartwarming feeling. The characters are strong and very well defined throughout the story. It was a pleasure reading. I found myself not wanting it to end. This book should be at the top of your reading list.

Loved the story about a soldier who falls instantly in love with the sister of a viscount. His sister is agreeing with the viscount to stay away from Violet. On the way to a house party the soldier runs away to get married so the viscount had the teacher sister go with him to stop them. Does the teacher and the viscount get together and does the soldier get married?

This is a fun, entertaining, holiday novella. Anthony and Kate are interesting, intriguing, entertaining, relatable characters. I loved the banter between these two and the fact that Kate never backed down – she is feisty. I enjoyed the romance and the overall story. Bennett tells a really good story in the limited number of pages.

I was loving this for what it was. But the ending was incredibly rushed. The confession came out of nowhere. We don't even get the H's POV and all that he does for her is completely off-page. Same goes for h. Repeatedly she keeps telling herself that she cannot marry H and then admits to being in love. A couple more chapters at the house party and I would have given it a 5.

A somewhat entertaining holiday road trip novella romance. It would have been more enjoyable and engaging had it been a full-length novel. At least it did not suffer from the dreaded insta-love, and the writing was that of a professional author for sure. If you enjoy short 100-page quick novellas with a few under the mistletoe kisses, you might enjoy this.

For an older brother and a war survivor, Freddie, Kate's elder sibling, acted like an impulsive, lovesick teenager who have experienced love or infatuation for the first time. *eyes rolling and shaking my head*

Very enjoyable book. Kate is a very strong lead character, who stood her ground and gave as good as she got against the vicious tongue of Lady Stanton!

A most enjoyable read as the line between gentility is at once stark but also blurred. I enjoyed watching these two romances progress.

A nice, sweet read.

A lovely Christmas story with a few challenges before the couple’s HEA. I admired the heroine’s ability to keep her values straight and not be bullied by others.

Dashing Through the Snow was about Miss Katherine "Kate" Woodville, niece to Lord Harold Woodville, Baron Rookhope, and Lord Anthony Lockhart, Viscount Stanton.
When Kate's friend, Tessa, encouraged her to attend a masquerade ball at Vauxhall Gardens, Kate and her brother, Freddy, ran into Miss Violet Stanton, one of Kate's former students, during which time the girl, in turn, introduced them to her brother, Viscount Stanton. Having taken an immediate dislike to Freddy, the Viscount had hardly a civil word to say to either of them.
A week later, both the Viscount and his stepmother approached Kate at the school where she taught and threatened her with ruination if she did not stop her brother from courting Violet. Kate stood up for herself and gave as good as she got, but it still troubled her that they had made threats against her and her family.
Months later as she and Freddy made their way to a house party for the holidays, they stopped at an inn due to bad weather. Before daybreak the next morning, Kate was woken by pounding on the door, only to find the angry Viscount standing there yelling at her that her brother and his sister had eloped and accused her of being a party to it. He then demanded she accompany him to Gretna Green to stop the elopement, with little regard for her reputation. In fact, he continued to threaten her with ruination if she did NOT go with him.
All I can say about this book is...No. No. No! This was wrong on so many levels it wasn't funny. This book should have been tossed in the trash bin before the words, "THE END" were even thought of. The Viscount really was not a good Hero for this novella. He was a hateful, manipulative, and unfeeling brute of a man. How the author could believe that a reader would accept him as the Hero is beyond me. He was irredeemable due to his hateful attitude towards both Kate and her brother, Freddy. How she could ever have fallen in love with him, let alone forgiven him is beyond comprehension. From the moment he met her to the day he walked, this man ill-treated her, thought her family beneath his, and worse. He compromised her reputation over and over without any thought or regret whatsoever.
The only thing even remotely romantic about the relationship between Kate and the Viscount was the one kiss they shared under the mistletoe at her uncle's home on Christmas Eve. Other than that, there had only ever been animosity and dislike. How in the world could the author even begin to think that a romantic relationship could develop between these two? It was totally unacceptable. Even when he eventually realized all his preconceived ideas and misconceptions regarding the status of her family's wealth, or lack thereof, were wrong, he still never thought better of them. And then, when he did a complete 180 and was in love with her, he expected to call a truce with her brother...after chasing him halfway across England expecting to call him out for eloping with his sister. Yeah, no. This was not an acceptable storyline.
The only thing GOOD about this book was the fact that Kate had a backbone and NEVER let anyone walk over her. She was definitely NOT a shrinking violet. She stood up for herself...with everyone who stood against her.
This book received only a one-star rating for its unbelievability. No one in their right mind would fall in love with, let alone agree to marry, such a man. What a waste of time. I don't usually regret reading books, but this was definitely one to regret.
