On the edge of civilisation there is an enclave of creatures from myth and legend, of monsters that haunt the darkest dreams of mankind. River is on a road trip with his frat brothers when they stumble across MonsterVille.
They are taken by the monsters and raffled off into slavery. River is won by Mellie, a woman more human than monster who struggles with the burden of having a human life on her hands. She doesn't want to kill him, she doesn't want him at all.
Now River must find a way to survive in a town where humans are food, slaves and playthings, where his flesh is coveted, his owner isn't strong enough to protect him, and some of the monsters are beginning to tempt him...
I would give this book a 4 and a half stars, nearly 5, but goodreads dont do half ratings.
The book was easy to read. Fast paced. I enjoyed all the monsters that are from myths and legends. Especially the Mermaids. The story flowed, and there was always something happening, so you are never bored while reading. I loved the twist at the end!!!
I had been meaning to read one of Andrew's books for ages, having seen him exhibiting on the con circuit forever.... and I'm so glad I did. His writing style flows effortlessly, the world building had real depth and there was a cast of interesting characters to get to know. Awesome story and a great imagination at work behind it all. Loved it.
