3.5 stars rounded down to 3 (because I cannot give this a 4)
This was a quick, enjoyable read. I liked it, but I think that it could have been better with 2 things...
First, there was an evident lack of proofreading. It was annoying, especially in a book this short, to see the number of grammatical errors and missing words. This just feels lazy to me. (Example: Josef looked quite humanly, though possessed extraordinary strength. And there are so many more just like that. Grrr.)
Second, he did not spend enough time on the cemetery and the hauntings associated with them. The examples were too brief and didn't go into enough detail.
Okay, so with all of that, I still enjoyed it. While I was aware of some of these haunted areas, like the graveyards in New Orleans, Boot Hill, and the Valley of the Kings, others were new to me. I just feel like I was left wanting more.
There's a great deal of research done on this booklet. St. Augustine has a really old cemetery, I walked around it for awhile, however, I'm told it's haunted. I didn't see anything myself. I've also been to Greyfriar's kirkyard. I wasn't spooked, my husband was taking pics, but nothing showed up. My husband came up to me among ancient graves and asked if I spoke his name. No. I didn't. So I have been a voracious reader of anything unexplained all my life. These were interesting, but short.
This short book is another entry in the true hauntings series from the author. While the books are well researched, the stories told within are very short. It seems like the chapter gets started and it's over before it really began. There were a number of places I hadn't heard of, but there are only 2 or three entries per chapter. It would be better if there was more information per chapter.
Loved this one, thank you Zachery. This book surprised me with wonderful history of the people and places, both within and around the cemeteries, but also great stories of how the people died. I learnt a lot, whilst at the same time reading more about ghosts than I really thought of, when it comes to cemeteries. Very interesting to say the least. Really enjoyable. :-)
I have always been fascinated by graveyards. I like to wander through and read the headstones but I am also mindful to respect those who are buried there. This book covers several graveyards and cemeteries. With each location, some accounts which people have experienced are related. It is nice to read about the different places in this book.
I am a true believer in the paranormal as we live in a haunted house with 3 spirit's. All of them know that as long as they behave. Anyways, this book was awesome and I have been to some of these cemeteries. Will definitely look forward to the rest of your books.
I enjoyed the book and hated to come to the end wishing there were just a few more stories. I enjoyed the stories which were written as a reporter might just giving you the facts without any embellishment. Very good read. If you like ghost stories you will like this book.
Read the book in two sittings. Absolutely fascinating, didn't want to put it down. It was scary, heartbreaking and tender. I am going to read his other books. Zachary Knowles has clearly done a lot of research for this book. It is definitely "a must read"
This book is very particular. It tells you how life really is. Love goes on. Even when your body passes. Do you believe? Maybe life and spirit does continue, just different than we know it.
I used to always watch Ghost Adventures on TV when I was younger and I was always hooked by their activities and findings. These books are perfect for fans of the show and paranormal.
