Sometimes carrying out justice requires...cross-dressing?! When a troubled couple tells the story of how their daughter was taken to pay off a gambling debt, Lyu's conscience and the legacy of Astrea Familia compel her to take action! The many skills Lyu learned as an adventurer are formidable, but she'll need more than brute force to challenge the influential Grand Casino. Unable to sneak or fight her way inside, Lyu puts all her trust in Syr's rescue plan: Go through the front door posing as Count Maximilian and his beautiful wife!
Although this was nominally about Lyu (and her tragic past, which Fujino Omori keeps milking, but it's still astoundingly sad, so he hasn't overused it yet), the more interesting character studies were about Runoa, Chloe, and Syr. Especially Syr. There's really something more going on there.
3½ stars. I can't see to round it up, even if it is Danmachi.
This books is really more of two shorter works that sort of focus on Lyu Leon and her back story. Though there is an awful lot of Sry and Chloe and Runoa... so much so that it isn't really all about Lyu. That being said, both of them give some back story (to all of the aforementioned folks).
The first is about a kidnapped (or swindled into person-trafficking slavery) girl that Lyu must infiltrate a Casino and the VIP room to rescue.
The second is about how some folks were upset that Lyu finished off the last of those associated with the Evils or somesuch and sent assassins after her.
Neither is spectacular considering the other works in this world, but neither is truly awful.
A Danmachi book that sucked. Yes indeed it did suck, quite a lot. It had nothing of what makes Danmachi good. Even though it is "Episode Lyu", the character that gets the most development is Syr. The 2 short stories are uninteresting. And the last one in particular just doesn't make any sense at all. Lyu gets beaten by everyone after she "took out the Evils by herself"... how can she be so weak and have defeated whole Familias... This one was an absolute dud, really disappointed!
I love the world of danmachi, so I was excited to see how it expands lyu’s story and I ended up being underwhelmed with her progression.. you find more out about her in vol 14 main series.. maybe I was looking forward to more of her life with astrea not her current life but it wasn’t a terrible read just not up to par with the rest of the series which is why I give it 3 stars
I love back story! While Syr and Anhya are still a mystery, it's great to discover where some of the other girls at The Benevolent Mistress came from. The additional story of The Grand Casino was fun, as well fleshing out the two main characters in that one even more.
CRUSH THE GRAND CASINO! Lyu Leon had retired from the adventuring game. But when a father and mother seek her out to help save their daughter, Lyu (with a little urging from a certain light blue-gray haired co-worker) takes up the attempt to save her life. Unfortunately, the place she has to recover her from my be the most heavily guard and least controlled of any in the city of Orario. A desperate card game and a battle against hired body guards and protective Familia face The Gale Wind.
THAT IS A BENEVOLENT TAVERN - Girl Meets Girl - A slightly shorter story than the first but is basically the "origin" story of how Lyu Leon met Syr Flover and was brought to work at the "Benevolent Tavern". Retiring assassins... over-sized dwarven bar owners... and mysterious attackers all blend together to create a fun and exciting adventure.
Pulled from the pages of IS IT WRONG TO TRY TO PICK UP GIRLS IN A DUNGEON, author Fujino Omori pens two fun and action filled adventures that check off many of the Manga/Anime tropes and will be fun for RPG players as well.
This side volume contains two stories that help flesh out some of the workers of the ever present The Benevolent Mistress. I worried going in that the storylines wouldn't be that enthralling, but by the end I really appreciated getting history on some side characters who might not ever get the spotlight in the main two series.
