But Logan isn’t going down without a fight. She makes him a deal. She will die, but first he must spend a month getting to know her, a month to change his mind. What she doesn’t expect is a month filled with displays of incredible wealth, spontaneous trips across the country, and unbelievable acts of immortal power. And as Logan spends her last days with Cyrus, she stops seeing the monster and begins to see a lonely, broken man she can’t walk away from. If she isn’t careful, it won’t just be her life she loses at the end of the month, but her heart as well...

3.5 stars. Good YA, mainly because the heroine is a mortician with a serious, serious case of Stockholm Syndrome, less so because the hero is a millennia-old vampire who behaves like a teenager.

All I can really say about this book is.. " Damn this was a really good read"...

I'm so wowed right now.. I mean I was thirsty for a really good PNR book and damnit I found it!!!

This book had the trifecta of a strong, possessive but serious alpha male with a strong and determined heroine, and kick ass story line without any sex... Damn, this author still made me feel the love between these two characters without any whatsoever kind of sex... I mean not even a damn kiss was given, but I still felt the love, and the chemistry between the hero and the heroine... Applause to this author for a job well done.

For my special sauce.. If I had to describe this book with a song:

🎶 All In The Name Of Love 🎶.. By Atlantic Starr

Shout out to my buddy Starr that reminded me to read this book with her... My hat is off to you my friend because this was a damn good read... Thank you sweetie.. 😘😘

Overall rating:

Perhaps I've grown out of the "I<3Vampires" phase, or perhaps this book is actually disappointing.

Most of the dialogues seem so dramatic. The heroine crosses the line between naivety and imbecility way too many times in her desperation to portray herself as special. The story also stereotypes and uses drama to sensationalise what I deemed to be a rather predictable plot line.

Taylor's book What I Didn't Say has been on my 'Favorite' shelf since the time I joined Goodreads, so imagine my keen disappointment in coming across this one.

For a writer of such potential, this book is a poor effort in reusing clichés better left in the past decade.

Keary has revived my love for this saga with Crown of Death.

Let me give you a quick rundown - House of Royals is a series of 8 books; the first 5 books are Alivia's and the last 3books are Elle's. I personally feel that Elle's books should have been spin-offs within the series, as Keary has done with Crown of Death. You do not need to read the previous 8 books to read this one, however, I highly recommend doing so as we are first introduced to King Cryus in those books and you have a better understanding of who he is. And it just makes this book all the more better too.

Crown of Death is the start of King Cyrus' series. He is the ruler of all Vampires; he's their creator. However, he's lived a very long and lonely life looking for his beloved wife to resurrect again and join him. Alivia made him believe it was her in order to save herself and her house. So now King Cyrus is even more distrusting of people and won't make the same mistakes again.

"I realize now that sometimes you can't even trust those closet to you. You can't trust someone you don't even know."

Logan is living a normal life until she comes to meet Cyrus unexpectedly. Logan knows nothing of her birth parents and is thrown into a world she never knew existed or expected. I have to give it to Logan that she handles all of this new information quite well. She doesn't question the insanity of it, doesn't doubt anything being told her; she just accepts everything as is. For me, that is the only hard selling point that is not fully won over. I get that Logan is very open-minded and believes in reincarnation and has a rather unhealthy obsession with death (she's an apprentice to a mortician) but being told that she needs to die in a short time frame only to be reborn in 4 days later as vampire, yea, I think most sane people would question that big time. She just sort of accepts it and goes along with everything. Keary does do a good job of having Logan question herself and things along the way but it still felt like Logan was just too accepting immediately.

Even while I had that one tiny problem, Keary does a great job with her story telling and getting Logan to finally accept what is to come, what her world will be. Cyrus doesn't explain to Logan who he is or what he wants from her - he learned that lesson the hard way already. And that's what makes this book extremely entertaining to read.

Logan doesn't buckle under Cyrus or his domineering presence. She refuses to show fear or cowardness. She's very acidic in her characteristics and doesn't hold back on anything. Yea, Cyrus may have that worldliness about him, but Logan won't let that affect her. And knowing who her parents now are (won't give that exciting revelation away) makes this all the more exciting. For those who've read the previous books will really understand the excitement behind that.

We get to know a bit more about Cyrus and how he came to be and his family's history, which I loved. We get a better understanding to him and I found myself empathizing for him, which was quite shocking based on his previous interactions in other books. We see a different side to Cyrus - a side that Logan brings out in him.

"I wanted you to love me for me. And for you to stop looking for someone else whenever you look in my eyes."

I won't say much more except that Keary once again has me all-in on this series. I had been looking forward to Cyrus' books and knowing who Logan, I am even more excited to see where Keary takes this series.

I need book two pronto!!!

Three and a half
I very much liked how this book introduces Logan a budding mortician who initially feels very real. She’s grown up living a normal family life , knowing she was adopted and yet never doubting that she is loved. For years she’s struggled to make her own way in the world and it might not suit everyone but Logan has done what she can . A chance encounter with someone deadly near her home turns her life on its head as suddenly Logan and her friend are abducted meaning Logan quickly discovers that vampires are not just the stuff of nightmares. What’s even more incredible is that the sinister Cyrus agrees to let Logan live for one month before her time breathing is up ! Just what is going on ?
Sometimes I read something and get totally surprised and that’s exactly what happened with this book . I’d probably expected something perhaps a little more like an urban fantasy with a kick ass heroine but Logan is in a class all of her own. She’s young admittedly but brave, outspoken, perhaps a little too full of herself at times but nevertheless she’s a character that keeps moving forward.
Ok Cyrus is creepy, deadly and clearly lonely. I did think his character felt incomplete and even with the author adding some backstory he just felt wrong to me. I’m sure some will feel there’s an almost Stockholm vibe as the story progresses but unfortunately Cyrus just didn’t wow me. Was it predictable? Perhaps a little and the token villain thrown into Logan’s life felt rushed with a cringeworthy name. Upon reflection I feel the ending was inevitable but it leads towards Logan discovering much more about where she came from and who she wants to be.

Juvenile, cliched, and full of overblown dramatics. Started off interesting but quickly devolved. The heroine was constantly talking about what a bitch she was, how full of "acid," but aside from one scene where she jumped to conclusions and blew up on her best friend she was ridiculously nice to everyone. Same with the oh-so-dangerous, "evil" bad boy who was really just a pile of fluff with a super-tragic past. The romance was cheesy and eye-roll inducing. The debt collector named Shylock was the last straw (too bad she didn't incorporate more lessons from Shakespeare). I couldn't even finish it.

AUDIBLE EDITION!! NARRATION WAS JUST OKAY STORY WAS REALLY GOOD!!

Twenty year old Logan Pierce has been down on her luck for awhile. She works at a funeral home and is studying Mortuary Science. She tells her best friend Eli about the brutal murder of women she has just helped prepare for burial. Eli warns Logan to move out of her apartment and go live with her parents. During an argument with Eli they hear screams and they both run off to see what has happen. The scene before there eyes is another bloody murder and there are people their with glowing red eyes. This is wear Logan meets Cyrus who is many millennium old. She later finds out that Cyrus is the King of Vampires and the Creator of all vampires.

There are lots of surprises in this story. It moves fast. With lots of Surprises along the way! This is a 4 part series with the same couple. I am ready to start book 2.

Logan Pierce is an ordinary girl who owes too much money to the wrong people while trying to get through her mortuary science internship. But her life takes a turn for the bizarre when she witnesses two immortal creatures decapitate a man in the middle of the street close to her dingy apartment building.

Being in the midst of the battle carries life-changing consequences for Logan as she is immediately whisked away against her will by one of the men - Cyrus. Turns out vampires are thing, and Cyrus believes she is of royal vampire blood. Cyrus tells her she’s been hidden all these years, but now that he’s found her, she will fulfill her true destiny … but only after she’s dead. See, Logan must die before she can rise again to take her place among their society. More talk of vampire Houses and royalty make Logan’s head spin, and now she finds her life-long friend Eli, also a vampire, has actually been protecting her all these years.

Knowing she has no choice, she agrees to submit to Cyrus, but under one condition: Cyrus takes one month to get to know Logan as a person before he kills her.

But Logan is surprised when the mysterious yet hot as hell Cyrus takes her on adventure after adventure. Just what is happening here, and who is Cyrus, anyway?

Oh. My. Gods! This book is amazing!

I love vampire books, but they have to be special; unique. Black Dagger Brotherhood was one such series. This is another.

For four weeks, while Logan works on wrapping up her human bucket list, she is treated like the royal she is. While continuing to work her regular mortuary job during the day, she is introduced to vampire high society by night and weekend, and what a world it is!

The growing relationship between Cyrus and Logan is emotional, tragic, heartfelt, and dizzying. Cyrus is searching for something, yet he won’t tell Logan just what he wants of her. He only says her destiny will be revealed after she dies and reawakens. Cyrus is not only hot, he’s intense, and extremely loyal. Logan feels herself falling for Cyrus even though her future after death remains a blank.

I cannot wait to devour book two! This could be the vampire series I’ve been craving in my life.

King Cyrus is back. I can’t shake this guy. He’s one of the bad guys I feel guilty about liking. He does horrible things. Horrible. And just when I think he’s gone too far, he flashes a glimpse of his humanity and I’m mesmerized again. Crown of Death is written as a stand-alone, which is great for suggesting it to my reader friends who haven’t read any of Keary Taylor’s earlier books, but if you’ve read the House of Royals series or the Garden of Thorns series, then the characters are already ingrained in your memory like they are mine, and reading Cyrus’ story is a delightsome gift filled with answers to questions we’ve all had from the very beginning. Taylor is good at what she does, so the answers only lead to more questions about what comes next, and that’s okay because it means I can’t wait to read the next book in her Crown series! Like I said, I can't shake the guy.

My first read by Keary Taylor... how have I not read her other vampire series?

I immediately went looking for the next book after finishing Crown of Death - this is a spin off??? (sort of). I'll definitely be checking out Taylor's other works and biting my nails to find out what happens in book 2.

Even though there is a whole series before this book, it didn't feel like I was missing anything.

This book was alright for the most part. Logan annoyed the shit out of me, I made notes while reading this that mostly consisted of the words “dumb bitch”. Despite this, I still had fun, though, that ending really did my head in. I probably won’t be reading the next books but I’d love to know happens.

Now for some spoilers. I was hoping so, so, so, so much that she wasn’t the reincarnated wife and though I’m still not completely sure, I think she is and I find that so annoying. One of the tropes I hate the most in romance is the FL being either a reincarnation or doppelgänger or anything of that type to the ML. It’s so cheap and makes the love not seem real. Logan made a great point by saying that she wants Cyrus to see her as herself, not his dead wife. Load of bloody shit.

If there’s by chance anyone reading this who has read the rest of the series (or at least the second book) lemme know what goes down please? Much appreciated.

This book was free and looked interesting, so I downloaded it. It was a fast and mostly good read. It is a different take on vampire romance stories in that reincarnation is involved. However, I’m not a big fan of that trope. The book did not provide an HEA, or even a “happy for now” ending, but was a total cliffhanger for the next book instead. The problem with reincarnation stories is that the same crap is constantly rehashed using different names and locales. I was very unhappy with the ending because there was no satisfying resolution…because it wasn’t an ending! In addition, the editing was off. Logan watched a dance and described it as “memorizing”. She later experienced a moment of excitement and stated she was “trilled”. So, that meant I was pulled out of the never ending story twice. In light of my disappointments with this book, I won’t be reading the rest of the series.

"I must kill you, so you can die." Mwhahaha - said the dark eyed, dark haired Cyrus. So Logan Pierce (annoying name for a heroine) bargains for a month to say her farewells - because this dude - claiming to be a vamp - is going to kill her. Yet, she doesn't believe he's a vamp. Bu maybe he is. Questions. Stupid answers. "And I will kill you - and it will be your first, human death." Mwhahhahhahh.
OMG. Seriously? This overblown dramatic muck makes little sense. Logan might not believe at first but she allows herself to be kidnapped, doesn't even ask about Eli (who was her friend and has been taken) She seems kind of a stupid, wide eyed idiot to me. Tell her to turn left, she digs her heels in and turns right.
And the romance? She is 20 or so, and Cyrus is old enough to be her gramps and appears to have / or had a real hard on for her mother - who Logan looks like - so no ick factor there at all. I'm calling this a DNF at the 30%.

Did I dislike it? No
Did I love it? No
Am I in any hurry to pay for the next book and continue on? Also no

This was an easy, quick read to past the time and procrastinate on the longer books I've been telling myself to read/finish. I would not mind continuing the series but I'm in no rush. Maybe the next time I'm in the mood for a filler read I'll check out the rest.

An intriguing start

Whilst some of the book's flow seemed too 'easy' without enough challenge from the main character, who seemed too accepting, of grew on me and I'm intrigued enough to consider the next book.

I enjoyed reading it

I think the book was good. It got better as it went on. I did find myself skipping through some parts in the beginning. I liked the main characters. I would consider reading the second book depending on price.

I could not put this book down. The reason for 4 stars is just because parts of the story were a bit annoying, but the story just flows and I just really connected with Logan and eventually "the king". I am interested to see how they play out this millennia long love story.

Bit of a cliffy ending. Does that mean she is who he wanted her to be? Does that mean I have to go buy book 2 right away to find out?

Ugh!

I was really enjoying this until that last 5-10% when Cyrus finally admitted what he wanted from her. I'm not a fan of reincarnation to be honest but if it means that Cyrus and Logan will get together then fine, I'll get over it.

** WARNING REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**
Crown of Death is the latest book by author Keary Taylor. This book can be read as part of the House of Royals series or as a stand-alone book.

This book introduces Alivia’s daughter Logan, when she is spotted by another royal who immediately calls on King Cyrus.
We have met King Cyrus before in previous books but this book shows a completely new side to him when it comes to Logan. He is soft, sweet, caring and charming but that doesn’t mean he still doesn’t enjoy his games.

I love the character of Logan, she’s a strong independent woman. However, I wished it was her mother; Alivia, they called before the king. The relationship between the King and Logan was absolutely adorable even knowing the Kings real motive from the previous books and that he wanted something else from her. I was still shipping them together from the beginning.

I’m a big fan of author Keary Taylor, I’ve loved everyone of her books she has written and I loved this one just the same. Five-star rating from me.

I love this world that Keary Taylor built and was so excited that she chose to tackle Cyrus's story. I would recommend reading the first series House of Royals with Alivia first, but the second series you can skip and jump right to this one.
The story is a fun, quick read. There were a few areas that I felt could have played out better, like when Logan first gets kidnapped and she bargains with Cyrus agrees to let her live for a month. That could have played out stronger since Logan really didn't have any bargaining chips, but it moved the story along.
I loved getting to know Cyrus and I was SO EXCITED at the end. We all knew it was going to happen (because that was the point of this book) but after reading House of Royals I am so curious how this transformation is going to be told. It's such a neat concept.
I hope we get so see some more familiar faces in the next book!

Okay so I am very, VERY picky and my vampire books. So many of them are so much a like that I kinda gave up on reading them for awhile. Let me tell y'all that from page one I was gone, hooked, addicted, entranced I could not put the book down I just kept reading. 100% hands down great book. This was my first read from Keary and I have already purchased almost all of her other books and can't wait to dive in. Thank you Keary for writing an awesome work, way to go my friend!.

Half a star was deducted for minor typos and because of the end of the book...I'll get to that soon.
I want to start this review saying that I have absolutely no intentions of finishing this series. I know that may seem strange with such a high rating for this title, but I will fully get into that as well. I would also like to forewarn anyone reading this review that there are some potential spoilers within this review if you decide to read past my summarization of the book.

Logan, a 20 year old mortician, witnesses a gruesome crime and within the same moment learns that the secrets of her origin may be a lot more sinister and complex than she's ever imagined. Adopted at 3 days old, she's always known she never shared blood with her "family" but no one and nothing has ever meant more to her, so when she's told that she has to die, she bargains for 4 weeks to say goodbye to them and tie up any loose ends of her life. Over the course of these 4 weeks not only does she learn a lot about her mysterious captor, but she also has a better understanding of herself, but when it comes down to it, will she truly be ready to leave her life behind and embrace the unknown that death brings?

I literally devoured this book. It was exactly what I was looking for after attempting so many previous duds and being in the lowest of book slumps. The idea of reincarnation was exciting and mixing it with vampires and a star crossed love story was so fresh and utterly captivating. Until I got further in the story. The closer I got towards the end of the book and saw the way the author was crafting her story, I was like wait a second-- this would be totally shitty if they have Cyrus (our MMC of the story) only wanting Logan because he suspects she carries the soul of his deceased wife along with all her other previous lives. The entire first book wraps you up in the building of a relationship between Cyrus and Logan. It's intense and carries so much angst and tension. The buildup is absolute perfection to be quite honest. But then the big reveal happens. Every previous royal that has proven to carry his wife's soul resurrects and obtains her memories, and even though the face and body is different, she essentially is his wife because it's her persona that takes over the consciousness of the body. I was like, I KNOW this author didn't have me get so engrossed in the relationship of these two characters only to snatch the FMC away. I tried to give the author the benefit of the doubt, though, because there is a moment in the book where Logan's best friend, Amelia, says the following:
“Love wrecks us. And even if you do go your separate ways, it doesn’t mean that love ends. Maybe it’s just easier if you still love them, and be happy for what might come for them in the future. And tell yourself that when the time is right, that you’re allowed to be happy again.”

This led me to think/hope that the author was going to use Logan and the feelings that Cyrus was having for her, despite not knowing for certain if she possess his wife's soul or not, as way of helping him to let go and finally accept his wife's death. That it's ok for him to move on and find happiness again. I hate to say it, but NOPE. Not what happens. She does possess his wife's soul. And I'm going to cheat and go into the beginning of the next book for a second. Sevan, Cyrus's wife, awakes in Logan's body and Logan is basically an echo in her mind. Logan is replaced by Sevan's consciousness. This just feels wrong. I read other reviews for the second book and found out this is how the story persists even to the very end of the series. I was here for Cyrus and Logan, not Cyrus and Sevan. It was a very odd route for the author to take in what could have been a truly amazing story, but I will not be continuing it. Even the second book starts out with Sevan needing to come to terms with everything and she needs to be away from Cyrus. From what I read in reviews, Cyrus is barely in the second book at all. Not to mention I was already growing frustrated with how Cyrus's character did a complete 180 towards the end of the first book. He went from being this strong, sexy vampire king, to a whiny, don't touch me, unhinged and broken man. It just didn't make much sense to me. Anyway, my rating is solely based on this first book, despite it falling literally apart at the end. I wouldn't recommend because it's a spectacularly written story that's basically setting you up for some serious disappointment.
