After pirates kidnap seventeen-year-old Ana in a case of mistaken identity, the orphaned housemaid prepares for the worst. Instead, playing the wholesome daughter of a Spanish admiral among rag-tag buccaneers becomes the least of her concerns. Battles, a shipwreck, mutiny, and most unexpectedly, love are what really turn her world upside down.

When the truth threatens to end Ana's adventures, it's the secrets of the dashing Alestair Kincade, Pirate King of the Caribbean, that prove to be the most dangerous. Ana will need to use her wits and charm to not only stay off the gallows, but also to avoid a fate she now considers to be worse than death: being sent home to Panama to a hopeless future.

R.S. Kovach is slightly obsessed with Pachelbel’s Canon, but not so much with splitting infinitives. An art historian by training and a senior financial administrator by trade, she has worked at universities across three continents. Her native language of Hungarian has been only slightly more useful than her other obscure skill of quoting THE PRINCESS BRIDE, but being a Wattpad Star and Featured author with over 6 million combined reads across various genres has given her the opportunity to write commissioned shorts for THE GALLOWS and CRIMSON PEAK movie promotional campaigns and Hulu's THE HANDMAID'S TALE.

As the winner of the inaugural XOXOAfterDark.com flash-fiction contest, Pocket Star Books published her debut contemporary romance THE LAST RESORT in March 2017. She is also a featured author in the Gallery Books fairy-tale retelling anthology ONCE UPON NOW.

I really really really liked this book! My sister recommended this to me and I was certain that I wouldn't like it because it really is just a romance novel about a princess and a pirate, but I found myself enjoying the way Ana and Alestair interact. Even when Ana is kidnapped, she shows great strength and gets under Alestairs' skin. There is so much humor and excitement through the book despite the main setting being on a pirate ship. I loved most of the characters, give or take a few, and had a blast reading their dialogue. As a warning, there is some adult content mentioned in the later chapters that I personally just skipped over. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that likes historical fiction or wants to have a overall great time meeting new, fun, engaging characters.

I honestly didn't think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. I'm so glad I gave it a chance! Everything was so easy to imagine and I loved everything about this book.

Actual rating: slightly lower than 5 stars -- but only because of the slightly underwhelming ending.

I love pirate stories, they just fascinate me. The adventure, the action, the unique world of piracy. And although I don't often read romance, I'm all for a romantic plot if it's written well. So, when I saw this book, I knew I had to give it a go.

It was a great read. This is historical fiction done right -- where the historical setting acts as a rich and interesting backdrop to the story, not overriding the actual plot. The reader doesn't have to be an expert on the time period to understand the story, yet enough historical knowledge is skilfully interlaced throughout the book to make it satisfactory for those who are quite knowledgable about the time period. The pirate element allows for some awesome events and aspects that just make the story feel more complete; it's not just a tale of a girl stealing a guy's heart out at sea, but it's about belonging, responsibility and honour.

Kincade is the Pirate King and there is a lot that comes with that title. He has to fullfill his role for reasons you learn later in the story, but he is conflicted between playing King and looking after the young woman, miss Ana, who his crew kidnapped from Portobelo because of her important title, who also continues to surprise him with her personality. They both have many secrets and hidden intentions, but will their complex developing relationship cause them to open up to each other, or forever guard their true selves from one another?

Not once throughout the entire book did I feel that the writing waned, and the author managed to add excitement and tension to every chapter. The pacing was perfect -- just fast enough to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, but not so rapidly-paced that you lose track of what is going on. The characters were great, they all felt real to me. The only fault for me was the ending which fell a little short of my expectations because certain characters were seemingly left out of the light, and in my opinion, a great opportunity for a particularly emotionally intense scene was missed. However, this is but one fault out of an otherwise perfect book, and so my rating is still very high.

Yes, I would definitely recommend this to pretty much anyone. Don't be put off by the idea that this is just a bad-boy pirate romance, because it is much more than that. I would not have read it if it wasn't.

It wasn't bad. It wasn't life-changing or anything, but for a romance about being kidnapped by a pirate... it wasn't terrible. I do have one bone to pick about kidnapping her best friend and then leaving her to the dogs?? So you have no conscience?? We never find out if the friend is even okay or anything so yeah.

Plunder was an enjoyable read already, but the audible version is epic. The narrator's accent makes it a really fun listen.

Book might be great but the narrator made it unlistenable
