Favorite Quote:

“Maybe he’s been hit by a bus,” she said, still watching her silent phone. “Maybe he ran out of the gala after me, got hit by a bus, and has been in traction all week, unable to call?” She exhaled with a rueful smile. “Wow, you know things are really bad when the best-case scenario involves a gruesome accident.”

My Review:

Cal and Eliza started off with bad blood between them, as in her mind; he was the cause of her recent unemployment. Yet they seemed to have a spark, although it was often one of annoyance, but a spark nonetheless. They had one of the most awkward first dates imaginable, which was only improved by hours of vomiting due to a mutual bout of food poisoning that occurred during the date. I always enjoy returning to this series and becoming reacquainted with the previously featured couples and new friends. I enjoy Ms. Grace’s humor, quirky yet endearingly flawed characters, and engaging storylines. This entertaining series has been easy to follow with each installment being an interconnected yet stand-alone volume.

Melody Grace is an author that has caught my attention a few times in the past, especially with her Beachwood Bay series. In fact, I’ve had the first Beachwood Bay book sitting on my Kindle for quite some time. For reasons mostly unknown (the known being I often find myself buried under books I need to review), I always found myself opting to read something other than the Beachwood Bay book that interested me. Thus, when I saw the chance to read No Ordinary Love, I was more than happy to finally get my introduction to Melody Grace.

No Ordinary Love is the sixth book in the Sweetbriar Cove series, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. There are details of side characters that clearly play off events in the prior books, references to couples whose stories have already played out earlier in the series, yet this does nothing to diminish the fun to be had with No Ordinary Love. Sure, I’m interested in reading the other books – however, this is not due to a lack of knowledge when reading No Ordinary Love, instead it is a reflection of how I now have a larger interest in reading Melody Grace books. There is no doubt I’ll be diving into the Beachwood Bay book sitting on my Kindle, and I’ll certainly need to download the other Sweetbriar Cove books so I can enjoy the way the characters build throughout this series.

From the start of this book, I was sucked into the story. It’s a simple one, a trope we see quite often, but there’s plenty throughout to keep you interested. It’s a short and sweet read, with plenty of emotions thrown in throughout. There is angst and drama, there are moments that leave a huge smile on your face, and lots of other goodies to be found. Everything that plays out is important, every detail sucks you in deeper. I loved the characters, I loved the way they played off each other, and I loved the way their story developed. It was a wonderful mix of dramatic and sweet, leaving me addicted throughout.

Not to mention, I found myself invested in the stories of the other characters. I loved the story that played out between our main characters, but the glimpses we were given of the side characters left me intrigued to find out more. The epilogue in particular has me super excited about the next book – a book I’ll certainly be grabbing. Not only do I wish to see more of the main characters I came to love so much in this book, but I’m also excited to see how the story between two of the side characters I really came to enjoy played out.

As my introduction to Melody Grace, this one has left me more than willing to pick up more.

4.5 stars!

This was, by far, my favorite book in this series! I loved Eliza and Cal.
She is a journalist who just lost her job. He is the guy who eliminated her job running the company as CEO. She is sassy and down to earth. He is hot and rich. She is blue collar and he is silver spoon. Somehow, their relationship is rocky, but sweet.

I feel in love with Eliza and Cal. Their relationship started off rocky and was hysterical and fun! I laughed for their first date and swooned over the relationship. The high and the lows were real and sweet!

Eliza and Cal met when she "helps" him, and his broken down vehicle, on the side of the road after discovering he is responsible for her losing her job. The attraction is there, but so is the reason to have nothing to do with one another.

But, it's a small town, and she works for his friend, and his family and hers are impossible to avoid. No matter how hard she tries to do so.

So, after meeting again and again, they see that there is a reason to stop denying that they are attracted to one another. Is this a challenge as he is, literally, the person who fired her? Yes, this does add a challenge. So, they have a first date, and some food poisoning. And, well, nothing creates a bond like being ill together. It lets you see the person for who they are, and it strips away the artifice.

What I enjoyed about this story is the characters. I liked Eliza, her family, and the secondary characters that were the friends on the town. I liked the fact that this is, essentially, a small town romance with big city elements.

This is my first title by this author. I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next one I read.

I recommend this title.

4.5, All The Feels, Stars!!

“Cal was already in withdrawal. He’d never felt like this before, craving a woman with such a raw, animal need. Her touch. Her kiss. A smile. He was a red-blooded man, sure, but Eliza set something in him burning out of control, and he was just about ready to give up fighting it.”

“The sparks caught, and just like that, he was on fire.”

“That’s how you know it’s real. Anyone can stick around when it’s smooth sailing. It’s how someone acts when you hit rough waters that makes all the difference.”

No Ordinary Love is a swoon-worthy romance with a pride and prejudice flair that will take you emotions on a wild ride and keep you begging for more…

No Ordinary Love follows the story of Eliza and Cal. Eliza returns home to Sweetbriar Cove after she loses her job. Her dreams were crushed, but hopefully Sweetbriar Cove would have all the answers. The last thing she planned on was the handsome stranger that blew into town. She knows guys like him, but he might just be the perfect distraction. That is until she discovers his true identity….Cal stumbles upon Sweetbriar Cove to escape it all. He’s hardworking and chained to his job. The pressure is always on and sometimes he feels like he can’t breathe, so an impromptu vacation might just be what the doctor ordered. Cal has always prided himself with his cool, smart logic, but meeting Eliza turned his entire world upside down. She makes him question every and anything. She makes him see the world in a whole other light. Falling in love could be so easy, if only they could see past what makes them so entirely different….

No Ordinary Love sucked me in from page one. I fell completely head over heels for Cal and Eliza. I loved Eliza’s smart and honest mouth. She told you how things were and stood up for what she believed in. If you were lucky enough to break through her walls, she was the best friend you could ask for. She loved deeply and with her whole heart and was loyal to those she held dear. She wasn’t born to a world filled with money and enjoyed the little things in life. And Cal couldn’t be more her opposite. He is rich and successful; the head of his family’s company. He had to make so many important decisions and had so many people depending on him. He always had to put on the charm and never got to really be his true self, that is until Eliza came along. While these two couldn’t be more opposite, somehow they just worked. Their pull and chemistry was undeniable. And they each brought out parts in each other that they never knew existed. Neither one of them was perfect and both had some growing up to do, especially when it came to love. But, that didn’t stop me from rooting for these two to find their happily ever after.

No Ordinary Love is the sixth book in the Sweetbriar Cove Series, but can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. The characters are a lot of fun and easy to connect with. Their stories are filled with lots of heart that will leave you swooning and believing in happily ever afters. I think this book is an excellent addition to the Sweetbriar Cove Series. I am a sucker for sweet, swoon-worthy romance that sets your heart on fire and gives you all the feels and let me tell you, Melody Grace totally knocks it out of the park with this read. I can’t wait to see what story she has in line for my heart next.

Eliza loves the small town of Sweetbriar Cove on Cape Cod, so when she is fired from her job at a Boston newspaper, she retreats there with wounded pride in the hopes that she can find a sense of calm and a new path forward again. It is the first time she has been back since her father died last year though so she has to face some bittersweet memories along the way too. She stops to help a stranger stranded on the side of the road in an area with no cell reception despite her foul mood, but when she realizes that stranger is none other than Cal Prescott, the man who is responsible for her being fired, she wishes she had kept on driving.  She doesn't leave without getting a bit of revenge though much to Cal's dismay.

Taking over the family business has meant nothing but stress, long days and nights, and butting heads with his uncle over how Cal wants to run things, so when Cal's godmother suggested he escape to her cottage in Sweetbriar Cove for a few weeks to clear his head he jumped at the opportunity. He has no idea who the dark haired siren was that stopped to help only to leave him stranded again but he is determined to find out. Fortunately it turns out they seem to have mutual friends there but he is mystified about what he could possibly have done to earn her bad attitude towards him until she reveals her name.

Eliza loved her job so she is hurt and angry that Cal does not even know who she is despite being responsible for the loss of her livelihood. Of course she knew exactly what she was doing when she wrote the article that exposed the mayor's wife being verbally abusive to the children's nanny, but Eliza has always been one to thumb her nose at the elitist set. The fact that the mayor's wife is also Cal's aunt just paved the way for her exit from the newspaper.

Sparks fly every time they are in the same room and they turn out to be pretty combustible between the sheets too, but they may just be too different for anything more than a fling to ever work out. He lives in a world where the paparazzi track his movements as one of the area's most eligible bachelors from an old money family, and she is the child of a history professor.  He lives in expensive suits, and she prefers casual and comfortable attire. She can't let go of the fact he is just like the rich kids who bullied her in school or that he fired her which makes for some very awkward moments. She has a bit of a difficult personality too; she loves to argue every point and can be a bit judgmental. She thought she just liked to debate but when her friends can't deny that she can take it too far, she is floored by the realization that she is not the person she hoped to be. When she takes a chance and attends a fundraising gala benefiting his foundation in memory of his parents only to have him treat her like arm candy that is meant to be seen and not heard, it may just be the last straw.

Eliza was always the mischievous friend who popped up in the prior stories so I was happy to see that she was going to get the chance to find her own HEA in the series. Cal was a genuinely good and likable guy once she got to know him and actually gave him a chance without holding his family and upbringing against him, and he definitely had some swoonworthy traits! Having read the prior books in the series I loved seeing the familiar faces of the other couples and the connections to them that the author wove into the story for Cal. Eliza's mom was a matchmaking nightmare with good intentions, and I am looking forward to finding out more about her sister Paige in the next book in the series. Playboy chef Declan has been lamenting the loss of his wingmen as they have each found their forevers one by one over the past few years, but Paige may be just the woman to change his no-strings-attached ways.

If you love a contemporary romance that brings both the sweet and the heat, then you need to check out the Sweetbriar Cove series!

Reviewed at Romance Is Ageless

To say that Eliza and Cal got off to a rocky start would be the understatement of the century. They first met alongside of the road when she’d stopped to help out a stranded traveler. Yet, in reality she knew him quite well – or she knew him as the new CEO who handed her a pink slip right after she might have made an impulsive non-complimentary comment about a relative in her news article. Unfortunately for Cal he had no idea of who had just “helped” him and Eliza is nothing if not determined to have the final say in most things… even when they get her in hot water time and time again.

We’ve known Eliza as a secondary character through most of the Sweetbriar Cove series, now in No Ordinary Love she gets to shine in her own spotlight, or slip helplessly deeper into trouble depending on your viewpoint. I like Eliza, she’s brash but straightforward, has strong opinions and is not afraid to voice them no matter who she offends, judgmental but can usually cut through the crap to the heart of the matter – except, it seems, when it comes to her own love life. Cal isn’t a typical wealthy, high society member – yes, he heads a major company and all of it’s holdings but he has always seen his decisions as they affect the workers, the man or woman who has to pay rent or put food on the table. He’ll stall, he’ll fight and he’ll find other ways to avoid shutting a business down. He heads a foundation that helps those in the greatest medical needs with research, funding, and help that is so desperately needed. It is the foundation that holds his heart while the company paves the way for the good he can do through the foundation. These are all parts of the man that Eliza knows nothing about for she only sees the wealth, the status, the toys, and the fact that he fired her. If you’re looking for an enemy to lover romance – then this couple is perfect for you.

I had fun with No Ordinary Love. Cal and Eliza are an intriguing couple, not really opposites attract for they both share many of the same attributes like stubbornness and not backing down from anything. In spite of their bickering, witty bantering these two fit together and maybe bring out the best in each other. I liked them together, they were realistic and believable in so many ways despite their obvious differences of opinions. It’s always fun to do some catching up on the lives of the other members of Sweetbriar Cove and this time was no exception. A few twists, some definite ongoing interest to come and a really good story make this a story that I’d definitely recommend to any Contemporary Romance reader.

I own a Kindle edition of this story.

A Melody Grace novel is something akin to sitting in front of a blazing fireplace snuggled in a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa. It makes you feel warm and cozy inside and out. And once again she has accomplished this feeling for me with her latest Sweetbriar Cove novel, No Ordinary Love.

Eliza and Cal come from completely different backgrounds: hers one of ordinary life and living paycheck to paycheck and his one of wealth and galas and having everything he could want. But when their lives unexpectedly cross paths, the electrical current which passes between them begins to ignite their souls. Though they’ve both had relationships in the past, no one has ever pushed and challenged them or made them feel as deeply and connected as they do to each other. But incidents from Eliza’s past are always hovering at the surface making her question whether she would ever been able to fit into Cal’s world. And Cal’s family responsibilities always seem to overshadow what truly means the most to him. Will Eliza and Cal find their way to the path that finally leads them to the future they both deserve filled with the love and passion the find when they’re in each other’s arms?

I must admit I have only read a couple of the novels in this series, but Melody Grace always has a way of pulling me right back in from the moment I open one of her books. And No Ordinary Love has done just that. Her characters are always intelligent and confident and full of inner-strengths while simultaneously being uncertain, soft and sweet. Eliza knows her own mind and never hesitates to say what she feels. Cal was raised to be proper and well-mannered and has always held his feelings close. But when their lives collide, they both feel a connection of souls which they’ve never before experienced which finally allows them to open their hearts to each other. Eliza is always pushing Cal which seems to ignite a passion inside, and the bantering they exchange is so much fun to read.

All of Melody Grace’s characters are fantastic and real. Each time I read one of her books, I’m ready to pack up my things and move to the cove as well. They’re just simply magical and overtly entertaining. I always feel a little lost when they end as I know I’m going to miss Sweetbriar Cove... I always do.

4 - 4.5 stars

Cal and Eliza got of in the wrong foot. Bad first impressions and all that plus Eliza is still hurt over her job. While they maybe opposites in upbringing and all it feels like not so much anymore they butt heads over misunderstanding. When they see a glimpses of someone beneath the rich boy exterior and stubborn sharp front they share it changes things. Their story had it's own pride and prejudice spin on it.

Well for the mean time the détente is ok civil but they still irritate the other. Obviously though the sparks are there but Eliza can be hard and stubborn, has a chip on her shoulder about wealthy people that makes it hard for things. Can get they get past that remains to be seen. I can see Cal's a good guy despite that polite even, he can't help the situation they find themselves in. I liked the liad back Cal better.

Eliza despite the fact she resents the rich lifestyle and feels out of place that's what intrigued Cal about her a breath of fresh air. It was fun to see how they interact, they get on well and I think what really repels them is that they are really like the other. Somehow through the flirting and sexy times the passion they built helped Eliza open up and let go, for them both let their walls down.

A lot of compromise and not giving up on each other makes the dream work. It's a lesson in self acceptance and knowing yourself for both of them. I liked this story it was more than a love story it had personal growth too. I enjoy this Sweetbriar cove series of Melody's it feels cozy and heart warming the sense of community is great. Catching up on the other couples is always fun. I can't wait for Declan's book.

Eliza returns home to SweetBriar Cover after losing her job on her way back into town she stops to help a motorist that has a flat tire. Turns out the motorist is none other than her old boss, Cal who recently has taken over the management of the Boston Newspaper where she worked.

Cal is overwhelmed with his job duties and living up to his uncle's standards. He takes his godmother up on the use of her home in SweetBriar to rest and regroup.

It takes Cal a little while to figure out why Eliza is so perturbed at him. That just adds another level of aggravation to Eliza. Cal fired her and doesn't even know who she is.

The sparks really fly between these two right from the beginning I love the bantering these two have. There was some laugh out loud moments. The only downside to Eliza personality is that she very opionated and doesn't look at the bigger picture.

Eliza really struggled to see past Cal's social standing to see the real Cal. Cal doesn't help matters when she attends a social gala with him and she is treated no better than arm candy. I don't think he meant to treat her like this. I think he knew she was out of her element and he was trying to help but then on the other hand she can be pretty opinionated and talks first and thinks later.

He really is a very nice, upstanding guy, who is struggling himself with family duties. He's under a great deal of pressure trying to make every happy and make his parents proud.

These two have to make some tough decisions on future employment and relationships. What I really like about this book as you can visualize their individual struggles and I was very glad that they both took paths that made them happy.

No Ordinary Love by Melody Grace
“Enemies to lovers, 5 stars”

Eliza is kind of reeling after losing a job she loves because she told the truth. So, she goes home for the summer where things are about to become a little more complicated. She thought maybe helping out a handsome guy would turn her luck around until she saw his name and decided he was enemy number one, or is he?
Cal is living a life that was decided for him. He loves his work but he’s a little too soft to be making some of the choices he has to. He decides to go on vacation to help clear his head but instead he meets a woman who is a complete spitfire, will he catch her?
Honestly, these two never should have worked, but once they dropped their guards they did. Once they stopped doing what they were taught to do and were just themselves they came alive. She loved him despite his money and he loved her despite her wicked tongue. But sometimes when you don’t vocalize your feelings someone else’s can get hurt. Will these two from opposite sides of the tax bracket make it work or will it fall to destruction around them?
I really enjoyed Eliza and Cal. I liked how they got to become themselves with each other. I loved how the town really embraced them and let them be. You get to catch up a little with the rest of the Sweetbriar Cove couples if you read their books, if not that’s okay. The lead in to the next story is also awesome and over all I devoured this story in no time. It’s definitely worth a one-click.

Oh my did sparks fly between Cal and Eliza!! There were several laugh out loud moments in this book and the first was when Eliza realized who Cal was and what she did to his tire was priceless! Really enjoyed their story and to get to know who they really were when not being under the pressure of their families! Another Great Read.

I always enjoy a Melody Grace series - I admit I read this out of order as I am trying to catch up on the series and didn't go back far enough on my kindle - but it didn't hinder my understanding or ruin anything for me. I feel as if these series flow so nicely together and as standalones because you know what to expect from Melody as a writer and as you read you get a feel for how the series plays out.

Eliza has had it rough and now after losing her job she heads home to help her mom and sister finalize things after losing her father. Ironically one of her first encounters ends up being an arrogant rich yet super hot guy that also ends up being someone connected to her recent job. As Eliza attempts to make choices about staying in Sweetbriar Cove or going back to the city she is plagued with the feelings she develops for this infuriating man Cal. Despite the desires of his family Cal starts to realize he too may be ready for a change of pace. Together Eliza and Cal will make life changing choices that may either bring them together or tear them apart.

In true Melody Grace form you get the steam , the angst , the emotion and potential for absolute heartbreak or happiness !! I look forward to finishing up the series and as always following Melody's writing to see what she does next.

There is an old adage ... "opposites attract"... but it does not guarantee those opposites will be able to successfully merge their lives into an HEA. Eliza and Cal are those two opposites. They come from different backgrounds, have different lives, but share one crucial point where they are the same: they are still trying to find themselves and where they truly belong!

The hot attraction, the unbelievable intimate times, the easiness of their conversation it all adds up to a feeling of being home and accepted for who they are. BUT, there is a lot more to their lives than living in their comfortable bubble of relationship. Once the outside world makes claim on them, they become a nuclear explosion of ideas and beliefs and incontrovertible opposition.

I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book! It is a great story on compromise and facing reality. Anyone who has struggled to feel they are where they belong will adore this story.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thank you to the author for sharing a copy with me.

Sweetbriar Cove is one of my favourite series, I love that every book is about a different couple finding their HEA and I love that each book can be read as stand-alones. Book 6 is Eliza Bennett and Cal Prescott’s story and what a story it is, two very different people coming from two very different backgrounds, could it be opposites attract even when one of you find out the other fired you from the job you loved......
The attraction was instant between Eliza and Cal and the chemistry is off the charts but is that enough when you feel that you are worlds apart. The journey these two need to take has many hurdles along the way, there are a few twists and turns but it’s love that wins out in the end. I loved that the characters have depth and strength, the banter between them was perfect and this book had the perfect mix of love, humour and some seriously hot scenes. Once again Melody Grace has given us another brilliant addition to a great series and another couple to fall in love with.

book 6 in this series, every book different and could be read as a stand alone but if you read from the start you will be familiar with the wonderful characters that are throughout the books.

Eliza had just been fired from her job at the paper and blames the Prescott family for it so imagine her surprise when on her way to Sweetbriar cove to spend time with her family she stopped to help someone that had broken down to find out he was Cal Prescott, there was an instant attraction but also anger at him. Follow their ups and downs through this story

can't wait too read paige and Declan's story next

Eliza just lost her job in journalism and she blames Cal Prescott, who is the CEO of that newspaper. Eliza visits Sweetbriar Cove to see her mom, sister, and friends, in order to relax for a bit. It seems that Cal had the same thought in mind though. Cal and Eliza start dating even though they seem like polar opposites. There are some committment issues but of course, Eliza and Cal are going to figure it out eventually...

I really enjoyed reading this book. This book was the beautiful, sappy, and sweet romance story that I was looking for!

So I have absolutely demolished the first 5-6 books in this series. They're so cute and Sweet Briar where I wanna beeeeee. HOWEVER, this last one, as enjoyable as it was, felt rushed at the end. So, even though my boy Declan is clearly up the bat next, I will be taking a series break. I think most of it is...I overindulged and now I have a small town romance tummy ache. 🥰 Melody Grace is going to be one of my top romance authors from now on though. Between her and Elsie Silver.. girl, goodbye to any social life I ever thought about creating.

Welcome back to Sweetbriar Cove! I love this series! And I would love to live in a place like this! This one is Eliza and Cal's story. Two people who couldn't be more opposite. But opposites attract, right? Love the characters. Eliza is feisty and not afraid to speak her mind and Cal is so sweet and swoony! This has a very good storyline and you get to catch up with previous characters from earlier books. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

I really enjoyed reading about Cal and Eliza. Their story was a great one, it was very well written with some sassy come backs and a lot of friction until they were able to move past and get to the steamy parts.
i loved that he was masculine enough to stay in the Pink house and they were able to finally pave the way to date and try to be happy. This was defiantly a great HEA with a perfect ending for both of them career wise.
I recieved a free copy and I’m volunteerily leaving my review.

I absolutely adore Ms. Grace and her Sweetbriar cove series.

I have been reading this series from Book one and it continues to draw me in. No Ordinary Love did that as well. Eliza and Cal meet under a unique circumstance.....she doesn’t know who he is until she does a little “snooping”, when she discovers exactly who he is, the mischief begins!!!

No Ordinary Love was a great love story. You won’t be disappointed!!!

Eliza looses her job and just recently lost her dad. Will her mother have to sell the house they spent all their summers at? Her mother is constantly trying to fix her up and her sister so they are not Spinsters for life. A chance encounter with her ex-boss has her finding love in the most unexpected way. A cute romance and good addition to this series. Will definitely read the next in the series.

Cal is the best. He’s a strong, powerful CEO but can be so sweet and get so vulnerable with Eliza.
Eliza is a strong minded newspaper reporter with a chip on her shoulder for the snooty uptight crowd. (btw love the name, cute)
These two butt heads but falls into each other so sweetly. Love their story.

Sweet and funny. It was a quick read for me. I have loved this series and these couples. Cal is not your typical stuffy suit. He and Liza are both trying to find their way in the world, alone and with one another. I love their first meeting on the road. It set the stage for this fun and interesting ride.

Sweet easy read. Eliza is a strong character that is easy to root for. While both characters have their flaws, it is nice to see that they are able to acknowledge them and the reader can see both progtonists grow throughout the text. The plot easily draws in the reader and the pace ensures that they don’t get bored. A nice, enjoyable read.
